330kW FJ Cruiser storms SA

If Toyota’s FJ Cruiser is not nearly imposing enough for you, take a peek at RG Motorsport’s supercharged tarmac muncher.

The FJ Cruiser is, after all, an off-roader, but the RGM guys’ upgrade has made it more capable on the road when overtaking but also when towing. No word, though, on whether this Cruiser’s monstrous appetite for unleaded has been addressed…

Whatever, the numbers churned out by RGM are a proper distraction. Performance car-like figures show that, with its Vortech blower in place, this FJ’s four-litre V6 now expels 330kW/550Nm of torque and sprints to 100km/h in 7.1 seconds.

MADE FOR SPEED

For overtaking, it goes from 60-100km/h in 3.8 seconds and 80-120km/h in 4.5 and only hits the limit at 233.8km/h. This is up from the “standard” FJ’s 175km/h.

This bolt-on conversion kit is a further development for the Randburg tuner that has previously had the run of this dual VVT-i V6 in Toyota's Prado and (in single VVT form) the Fortuner and Hilux. This conversion kit incorporates a dedicated cooling system that lowers the intake temperature via an air/water intercooler and a Unichip piggyback computer matched to the engine’s characteristics.

A complete supercharger conversion for your FJ Cruiser will cost R89 000 and includes a six-month or 20 000km warranty (which can be upgraded to three years or 100 000km).
