Bigger 'n bolder: The new SA-bound Cruze

   Cruze larger but lighter
   • New 1.4 turbo engine
   • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
   • Advanced adaptive safety

DETROIT, Michigan – Chevrolet has unveiled its 2016 Cruze – larger but lighter and a more efficient and sophisticated evolution of the brand’s best-selling global car, says the automaker.

Chevrolet South Africa says we'll only receive the car after its launch in the US in 2016 or possibly in 2017.

Chev SA said: "The next generation Chevrolet Cruze will be introduced to the South African market at a later stage. Model range, specification, and pricing will be announced at time of launch."

LIGHTER, BIGGER, BETTER

The automaker claims the new car is packed with technology such as Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and new active safety features, as well as a more spacious interior and an athletic, aerodynamic design.

It will be offered in more than 40 markets and go on sale first in North America in early 2016. It will be powered by a new 1.4 turbocharged engine  with direct injection kicking out 10kW more than before to 113kW/240Nm. There's also a six-speed auto available with stop/start function.

Fuel consumption is rated at a claimed 5.9 litres/100km.

The new Cruze is 113kg lighter thanks to overall weight reduction which also contributes to its 100km/h sprint in eight seconds.

NEW DIESEL ON WAY

With greater spaciousness and technology, the automaker claims the 2016 Cruze’s interior is designed to be more comfortable and a better connected environment for the driver and passengers. There’s more rear legroom (917mm) and 51mm more rear knee room – that’s larger than Ford’s Focus and Hyundai’s Elantra.

Chevrolet says through Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability, Cruze’s new MyLink infotainment system provides simple and intuitive use of smartphones in the vehicle. It integrates certain phone functions onto the Cruze’s colour touchscreen, allowing them to call up music, navigation apps and more via compatibility with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and more.
