Autobiography writes new chapter in 4x4

There is a new Big Daddy in the Range Rover stable and it's called the SV Autobiography to coincides with a few tweaks to the the rest of the Range Rover model range.

The car was first shown at the 2015 New York auto show to replace the then flagship Autobiography Black and added another dollop of luxury, ostentation and performance.

WHAT'S NEW TO THE RANGE?

The company says the Range Rover has received many enhancements to, the automaker says, "keep it at the top of the premium SUV pack". 'All-Terrain Progress Control' is now available on units  equipped with an SDV8 engine.

The enhanced Rangie also benefits from a few convenience features: a new "surround" camera system that uses high-resolution cameras for better clarity and 'rear junction view" for, for instance, reversing from a parking slot or garage. The rear camera has its own washer jet.

Have trouble opening the tail door of your Range Rover because your hands are full of designer shopping-bags? Not to worry, just wiggle a foot under sensors beneath the rear bumper and voila! It can also be done from the side of the rear bumper.

Another notable addition is automatic access height which automatically lowers the vehicle by as much as five centimetres - easy ingress and egress, see.

Available in the standard and long-wheelbase, the new SV Autobiography can be specified in two-tone body colours. The combination of Santorini Black upper body and nine colours for the rest.

The supercharged V8 version features drain-sized quad tailpipes.

INTERIOR? SAME, BUT BETTER

The interior remains largely the untouched, the automaker says, with many of the driver’s switches and other controlled make of solid aluminium.

New for the SV Autobiography is the option of a sliding aluminium load-space floor and a choice of veneers: the floor extends rearwards for better practicality and easier loading or unloading.

Range Rover has taken the split tail door to another level with the 'event seating' option;  the seats are in the luggage compartment but can be quickly and easily deployed to provide comfortable seating for two adults on the lower tailgate section.

MORE POWER, DIESEL OPTION

The all-aluminium, five-litre, supercharged V8 engine (same as in the manic SVR) but tweaked to deliver 405kW/680Nm - up by 30kW and 55Nm.

Maximum torque is available at 2500rpm, delivered through an eight-speed ZF automatic.

Or a 4.4 turbodiesel V8 producing 250kW/740Nm can be specified

The 2016 Range Rover is immediately available for order in South Africa.
