Audi S3 Cabriolet for SA

•    Global debut at 2014 Geneva auto show
•    Powerful 2.0 TFSI produces 300PS/380Nm
•    Headed for South Africa later in 2014
•    Quattro all-wheel drive

In February 2014, Wheels24 reported that Audi will boost its local A3 range with the addition of the S3 Sportback. The automaker will debut its next addition to the A3 range at the 2014 Geneva International Motor Show – the S3 Cabriolet.

The new S3 cabriolet will arrive in South Africa later in 2014.

The cabriolet is 25mm lower than the standard A3 and measures 4.43m long, 1.79m wide and 1.39m tall and has a wheelbase of 2.60m.

It's powered by a two-litre turbo petrol engine capable of 221kW (206kW for SA models) and 380Nm, mated to a six-speed S tronic dual-clutch driving power to all four wheels via Audi's Quattro all-wheel drive. Fuel consumption is rated at a claimed 5.9 litres/100km with emission of 165g/km.

Due to the extra weight the S3 Cabriolet reaches 0-100km/h in 5.4 seconds, 0.5sec slower than the S3 sedan, on to a electronically limited top speed of 250km/h.

ROOM FOR FOUR

According to Audi “there is room for two adults in the rear” and with the top up it has a luggage capacity of 285 litres and 245 with the top down.

The top, available in three colours, opens or closes in 18 seconds at speeds up to 50km/h. An active rollover system protects passengers in the event of a crash.

MORE FROM AUDI

Audi’s local “S” range has been bolstered with the launch of the new S3 sportback and sedan as well as the world’s first S-badge Q SUV model – the SQ5 TDI.

The second quarter of 2014 will see the local introduction of the 200kW Audi TTS Special Edition.

"Launching soon after that," Audi says, "will be the Audi S8, followed by the potent Audi S1 in the second half of 2014."
