Adam Grand Slam: Range-topper in January

  • Adam range-topper at Autosport
  • 1.4 turbo punts 122kW
  • Sport chassis, VXR brakes

LUTON, England – Opel’s top-of-the-range Adam Grand Slam will make its UK debut at the Autosport International 2015 show at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre on January 8 2015.

The car was previewed at the 2013 Geneva and Frankfurt auto shows. It has, its maker says, a slick design and “a spirited” 1.4 turbo 112kW/220Nm Ectotec engine designed purely for the Grand Slam, a tuned chassis and VXR brakes.

FEATURE: Opel Adam launch in SA

That's Opel Superboss / OPC territory, bearing in mind that the Superboss only made 141kW from a 1.6 turbo engine and the Adam is a great deal smaller. The front lip spoiler, sill moldings and an extended rear bumper cut-out with a visible, bold exhaust tailpipe, Opel says, make the bodywork appear more muscular then a standard Adam.

SPORT SEATS CHOICE

Ten body-colour and four roof colour combinations will be available with the Red 'n Roll roof design reserved for Adam S customers. A distinctive spoiler above the rear window and special Adam logo on the C pillars might also impress.

The driver and front passenger can choose from four seat arrangements, three exclusively for the Grand Slam – among them Recaro Performance seats in Morrocana or nappa leather.

The interior reflects the Red 'n Roll design in many ways, with the optional leather package added a black-and-red steering wheel, gear-shifter knob and handbrake in leather or the red and white lighting for the instrument panels and doors.

Orders will open in Europe for the Adam Grand Slam in January 2015.

We asked GM SA if/when the car might reach SA and this is what we were told: "We will consider all suitable products for South Africa when appropriate. However, we have no timing on any additional Adam models."

Awww, c'mon guys!
