911 Carrera GTS - the latest from Porsche

STUTTGART, Germany - Porsche has (Oct 8 2014) announced that the second generation of its 911 Carrera GTS will be in European showrooms within a month.

It will join the acclaimed Boxster GTS, Cayman GTS and Panamera GTS in the Porsche stable.

Each of the four new 911 Carrera GTS models – coupé or cabriolet in either rear of all-wheel drive - is said to have built on the established core values of the rear-engined 911 by adding technical features to generate even higher levels of dynamic performance and driving enjoyment.

320kW, 320km/h

The cars have a flat-six engine tuned to develop 320kW, up 22kW on the the Carrera S. They also come with the Sport Chrono package that has dynamic engine mounts and suspension management that drops the ride height by a centimetre.

Acceleration and top speed have been improved, Porsche says: 0-100km/h in four seconds (cabrio 4.2) and near-as-dammit 320km/h.

The exteriors – as with other GTS units – differs significantly from the other Carrera models. All versions will have the 911 Carrera 4 body with flared rear wheel-arches and a wider track. Also standard are 20" alloy rims with a centre-lock mechanism and finished in "exclusive matte black".

EXCLUSIVE ALCANTERA TRIM

Accentuating the nose, the automaker adds, are special trim elements and smoked bi-xenon headlights. The air intake grille at the rear has GTS black trim strips and black-chrome plated exhaust tailpipes.

The driver and front passenger sit in an exclusive Alcantara interior with leather-trimmed sport seats and the centre rear-seat panels are finished in Alcantara, as on the other Porsche GTS units.

The 911 Carrera range now consists of 12 cars at three power levels, as coupés and cabriolets, and with rear or all-wheel drive. We're waiting for Porsche SA to supply prices, but meanwhile, in the UK right-hand drive market they range from the equivalent of R1.64-million to R1.88-million.

WHAT YOU GET FOR YOUR BUCKS...

Included for those healthy sums are black tinted bi-xenon headlights with a Porsche Dynamic Lighting System, sports exhaust, Sport Chrono pack, leather/Alcantara cabin trim, sports seats, 20" centre-lock alloy rims, active suspension, torque vectoring with a rear lilmited-slip differential, 18cm colour touch-screen,  Porsche Communication Management with satnav, digital radio, universal audio interface, auto aircon, stability control, vehicle tracking and a three-year warranty that includes a roadside assistance package.

The 911 Carrera 4 GTS adds traction-managed all-wheel drive.
