5 BMW M models headed to South Africa in 2020

"Between 40% and 45% of M cars sold by BMW are SUVs," BMW M CEO and President Markus Flasch announced at the recent M Festival at the Kyalami race circuit in Johannesburg.

The German automaker recently added two new SUV M models, namely the X3 and X4 M Competition, to its range and the duo will be joined by the X5 and X6 M Competition in the second quarter of 2020.

The X5 and X6 are powered by 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine producing 460kW and 750Nm.

BMW haven't thrown in the towel on high-performance sedans and coupés however, and South African media got an exclusive look at the new M8 Gran Coupé Competition model ahead of its world debut at the Los Angeles motor show in late November.

The M8 Gran Coupé will join the M8 Competition Coupé and Convertible models in 2020 and also uses the firm's lauded 4.4-litre V8 twin-turbo engine with 460kW and 750Nm.

BMW claim a 0-100km/h time of 3.2 seconds for the Gran Coupé model.
