accreditation

The Fiesta line-up is available in two engine sizes and two body styles, giving the customer a choice of five derivatives.

Nigel Harris, Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa's Director of Marketing and Sales, told Wheels24 that the line-up will be expanded next year with the introduction of a hot Fiesta as well.

The introductory line-up is as follows:
Fiesta 5 door

  • 1.4i (Air conitioning & Radio/CD optional)
  • 1.6i Ambiente (Air conitioning optional & Radio/CD standard )
  • 1.6i Ghia (Air conitioning & Radio/CD standard)

    Fiesta 3 door

  • 1.4i Trend (Air conitioning & Radio/CD standard)
  • 1.6i Trend (Air conitioning & Radio/CD standard)

The Fiesta features Ford's new Sigma 16V engine range and the line-up consists of two new double-overhead cam petrol engines - a 60kW 1.4-litre and a 75kW 1.6-litre.

The 16V 1.4-litre engine achieves peak torque of 128 Nm at 3 500 r/min, while the 75 kW variant delivers peak torque of 146 Nm at 4 000 r/min.

The cars are fitted with the latest Ford five-speed manual transmission across the model range.

At the front, the MacPherson strut front suspension and steering system are mounted on a rigid front subframe that bolts onto the main body structure.

A completely new design of low-profile rear suspension built around a twist-beam structure with the objective of achieving class-leading stiffness.

The Fiesta is fitted with powerful larger brake discs and pads for improved braking performance right across the range 22nbsp;xnbsp;258 mm diameter ventilated front discs and 38nbsp;xnbsp;203nbsp;mm diameter brake drums.

The new Fiesta also features one of the first lightweight four-channel ABS systems in the industry. This highly efficient design incorporates standard electronic brake force distribution (EBD).

The Fiesta also features the new Intelligent Protection System incorporating dual-stage front air bag technology.

The driver and front passenger safety belts feature pyrotechnic pretensioners to remove slack from the safety belt for optimal safety and air-bag effectiveness.

The front safety belts also feature load-limiting retractors designed to prevent chest injuries by limiting the forces applied by the safety belt during impact.

It features extensive use of high-strength steels to create a robust body structure for occupant protection.

The rigid body structure has been engineered to provide multiple load paths for the management of crash energy that are designed to maintain the integrity of the passenger compartment in all anticipated real-world crash events.

Its interior has been optimised to create comfort and space for five occupants and their cargo.

The new Fiesta can accommodate two large suitcases in its boot without sacrificing any of the rear seating area. The 60/40 slit folding rear seats also offer more luggage space when needed.

The driver's seat is adjustable for height, in addition to fore-and-aft and rake. This helps drivers of varied statures to find their optimum driving position to take advantage of the outward visibility and 'command post' driving position.

    Service, Warranty and Roadside Assistance

Service intervals for both 1.4- and 1.6-litre Fiesta's are 20 000 km apart. Fiesta owners will also get a 3-year/100 000 km warranty and owners can rest assured knowing that they will be provided with 3-year/unlimited km's roadside assistance to cover all eventualities.

If owners so wish, they may even take-up Ford's optional Scheduled Service or Maintenance plans for further inconvenience-free motoring.
