We understand that sometimes, in the heat of the moment, passions can run high and emotions can cloud your judgement.

But when incidents like this happen, you can't help but feel that the harshest punishment is the only sanction that should be applied.

This past weekend, the FIA Karting World Championship moved to Italy where the fraternity raced around the Lonato circuit. Nine laps into the race, 23-year-old driver Luca Corberi and Paolo Ippolito made contact, which sent Corberi into the barriers and out of the race.

In most instances that would have been it, but Corberi wasn't done and took his frustrations to the track. Literally.

What on earth?

There is no video material of the on-track incident between Corberi and Ippolito, but the camera does pan to Corberi as he exits his stricken go-kart. The camera captures Corberi again, this time standing with his kart's front bumper next to the road.

As the field of karts made their way by Corberi, the Italian seems to be readying for something. Then, suddenly, he flings the bumper towards the track and into the way of Ippolito. The bumper missed its target but hit another driver. Corberi then made his way across the track, disregarding the calls of the officials not to do so.

But it wasn't over. After the race, Corberi ran towards Ippolito and speared him away from this kart. The two drivers got involved in quite a skirmish, which also saw Corberi's father bulldoze into Ippolito. By the way, did we mention that Corberi's family owns the Lonato circuit?

The incident garnered widespread criticism and former Formula 1 driver, Jenson Button, called on Twitter for both Corberi and his father to be handed a lifetime ban from motorsport.

Regarding the on-track incident, both Corberi and Ippolito were disqualified from the race's final result, but the FIA is yet to make an announcement on Corberi and his father's actions.
