It has been quite a lengthy break, but the Supadrift Western Cape Regional field is geared up for an action-packed third round of the 2016 championship.
This Saturday (July 16, 2016) will see the field gather at the Killarney International Raceway for the next installment of this fascinating series.
The big guns
The extended break has not been without good reason though as Brenton Gregory from Supadraft Western Cape explains: “We initially planned to host Round 3 at the end of June. This was however right in the middle of the Holy month of Ramadan.
"With a lot of our competitors being Islamic, we took the decision to postpone this round to allow them the opportunity to celebrate this very religious month. This also provided all the competitors with ample opportunity to prepare for the next round.”

One of the competitors raring to go will be defending regional champion Daniel Blaser. The Team CVP Drift driver ended Round 2 victorious after a spellbinding battle against defending national champion Jason Webb from Team Monster Energy.
Blaser is eager to get back behind the wheel of the Nissan 200SX. Amongst preparation, Blaser also found the time to get engaged recently: “Yes I had my plans lined up as myself and Deana went for a nice walk in Sea Point. It has been quite a happy week for me and I’m looking forward to ending it off with a victory this coming weekend.”
Eager to get his name on the winner’s trophy will be Shane Green. Round 2 saw Green come back from a very unfortunate accident in the first elimination round to finish third for the day. Green has become known as a competitor to turn on the pressure at the right time and will be hoping to turn this into a step onto the top of the podium come Saturday.

Green says: “The Western Cape competition is very tough – especially at the top. I’m keen to go out and give it my best shot this weekend. Hopefully Round 3 will see me being victorious. I’ll be going out there raising my own game and I know my fellow competitors will do the same – Saturday will certainly be exciting.”
Behind them there’s a host of competitors eager to make an impression as well. Juan Stemmet will be keen to follow up on his strong start to the season as well as Izak van Zyl. Back in a very competitive capacity will be Faheem Salie in the Mike’s Place Toyota Supra. Salie spent the first two rounds mainly securing points for entering the event and will be eager to follow up with some strong finishes.

The Supadrift Western Cape Regional championship will share the Killarney half-main circuit with the WPMC Short Circuit categories on the day - providing spectators with a full day of high-octane entertainment.
With two practice sessions scheduled in the morning, the business-end of the day will commence with qualifying at 2.40pm. The elimination battles are scheduled to get underway at 4.55pm - continuing until approximately 6pm.
