The wait is over! The M-Sport trio of Jules Gounon, Maxime Soulet, and South African driver Jordan Pepper brought the thunder to New South Wales, Australia for the Bathurst 12 Hour race.
McLaren was 41 seconds behind in second place while Mercedes-AMG and Porsche completed the top four positions.
It was the team from Crewe's first win the in the Intercontinental GT Challenge with the #7 Continental GT3 enjoyed a largely trouble-free run from 11th on the grid, the lowest starting position for any winner since the event’s first edition in 1991.
The team also set a new distance record of 314 laps, almost 2000km, over 12 hours.
With an hour to go in the race, the #7 car suffered a high-speed tyre blowout along the Conrod Straight. But that couldn't derail the team and they stormed to the win and were elated with the result.
"You have those days where everything comes together for you; you see the rain dropping after I passed the line. Thanks to the racing gods I can say it was a good one. When you get a puncture while leading in the last hour at Bathurst, it’s not a nice moment but we’re standing here now," Gounon said.
