Motorsport: Japan's Sato gets replica trophy for Indy 500 win

Chicago -Reigning Indianapolis 500 champion Takuma Sato of Japan was presented his miniature replica of the Borg-Warner Trophy on Wednesday at ceremonies in conjunction with the North American International Auto Show.

The 40-year-old racer from Tokyo became the first Japanese Asian driver to capture the classic US oval event, starting fourth and holding off three-time Indy winner Helio Castroneves to win by 2011 of a second last May.

A tall "Baby Borg" 

Sato collected his "Baby Borg" trophy, a 35.5cm tall and five pound 2.2kg keepsake version of the champion's hardware, features the same sterling silver three-dimensional image of Sato's face that now occupies the main trophy.

A smiling Sato said of the ultimate destination for his trophy: "I haven't decided if it's going to Indy or Japan.

"Anywhere will do.

"And we're only four months away from the next Indy 500. It's crazy."

Former Indy car driver Michael Andretti, who earned his fifth Indianapolis 500 victory as a team owner backing Sato, also received a keepsake trophy.
