The third round of the 2020 Liqui Moly INEX Legends Championship this past weekend (11 -12 September) saw Devin Robertson and Jordan Larsson splitting the race wins at Zwartkops Raceway amidst a few unexpected results compared to the early part of the season.

It was the first wins for the year for both Robertson and Larsson on a weekend that only saw one of 2020's previous podium finishers making it into the top three. The weekend also saw Robertson, Anton Repsold, Jordan Larsson, Seef Fourie Jnr and Johan Jooste making their first competitive appearances for the season while Billie Fourie made his series-debut.

Saturday morning's draw for grid positions saw Lonika Maartens taking pole-position ahead of Devin Robertson. Championship-contender Gerhard Roux and Ian Upton lined up on the second row with Repsold and Larsson on the third row. Fourie Jnr drew seventh-place and was joined by Charl Roux on his outside. Richard van Heerde and Jooste completed the top-ten.

Johann van de Venter had championship-contender Justin Robertson joining him on Row 6 ahead of Points Table leader Jagger Robertson. Fourie started at the back as per the rules relating to debutants. Neels Jooste participated in Friday's practice sessions, but after Repsold's car encountered mechanical problems on the day, Jooste volunteered his car to his stable-mate.

How it unfolded

Race 1 saw Devin Robertson quickly move into the lead from where he rapidly built a gap over the rest of the field to take an unchallenged win. Further back there was a six-car battle developing for the runner-up positions. Larsson gradually made his way through to third place but overtook second-placed Gerhard Roux in the closing stages with the pair rounding out the podium. Justin Robertson, Upton and Maartens completed the top-six with Charl Roux also in close-contention. Jagger Robertson struggled with clutch control which hampered his pace; finishing in tenth place. Fourie Jnr formed part of the early battle for second place but was forced into retirement with brake issues.

Race 2's reverse grid saw Jagger and Justin Robertson heading up the field, with Devin quickly joining the family-affair upfront. Justin and Jagger made contact on Lap 4; ending Jagger's race and resulting in Justin dropping back. This handed the lead to Devin, but the incident also allowed the rest of the pack to catch up. This set up a threeway battle for the win during the closing stages with Robertson narrowly taking the win ahead of Larsson and Fourie Jnr. Further back, Gerhard Roux held off Justin Robertson and Upton to finish in fourth place.

Jagger Robertson was back for Race 3 to head up the grid, albeit having to contend with damage from the incident earlier. He traded the lead on several occasions with Fourie Jnr during the early stages, but the battle up front allowed Larsson to catch up to them; eventually taking the lead and victory. Devin Robertson gradually made his way through the field and overtook Fourie Jnr on the final lap to finish in second place. Jagger Robertson finished in fourth place with Maartens completing the leading group. Gerhard Roux rounded out the top-six.

This saw Devin Robertson taking the honours for the day ahead of Larsson and Gerhard Roux. Robertson and Larsson also headed up the Professional Class with Fourie Jnr in third place. Consistency throughout the day saw Gerhard Roux taking three wins in the Masters Class with Justin Robertson and Ian Upton as runners-up.

The final round of the 2020 Liqui Moly INEX Legends Championship will take place at Red Star Raceway on 13 -14 November 2020.
