Liqui Moly INEX Legends Championship to be decided Zwartkops Raceway with plenty still up for grabs

The 2018 Liqui Moly INEX Legends Championship finale is upon with Round 9 seeing the category visit Zwartkops Raceway for the third consecutive round on the weekend of 2-3 November.

2018 will see a new champion. At present Justin Robertson holds a 720-point lead on the points log over Richard van Heerde. In 2016 Robertson recorded his best result in the championship when he finished as runner-up.

Quality contention

2017 saw him taking a sabbatical, but he came back with a vengeance for 2018. With a 100% reliability record for the season and a host of victories, podiums and good points-paying finishes, it is no surprise at all that he finds himself in such a strong position.

Van Heerde is also concluding his best season in the championship after finishing the 2017 season in seventh position.

Like Robertson, he also boasts with a 100% reliability record while adding a good tally of points from every round. It is, however, Robertson who’ll be able to nurse his way to a maiden title, which could be achieved as early as the day’s first race.

Eager competition

Apart from the two main protagonists, this is poised to be a thrilling final battle for 2018. The likes of Gerhard Roux, defending champion Richard Upton, Jason Loosemore and Sean Moore will be eager to end their season in winning fashion.

2017’s Runner-up Willie Erasmus missed the first half of the 2018 season to focus his attention on his campaign in the Bridgestone BMW Club Racing Series.

Momentum is key

Since returning to the Liqui Moly INEX Legends category during Round 6 at Dezzi Raceway, he has been a regular front-runner with two overall race wins to his name. Although finding himself in fourteenth position in the championship, he’ll be eager to maintain this momentum in the finale.

2018 Rookie and sole competitor in the Young Lions class Jagger Robertson finds himself in fifth position in the overall championship. The season has seen him show good pace while collecting a host of strong finishes.

This youngster has, in particular, showcased his ability to hold onto a position despite severe pressure from seasoned competitors and is fast creating a reputation for being one of the brightest prospects in South African motorsport.

The category, on par with sister championships around the globe, has been delivering a host of exciting rounds throughout the 2018 season. With equally-matched cars the racing is close; the season finale should not be an exception around the 2.4km circuit outside Pretoria.

The ninth round of event will form part of the Historic Tour race weekend. Friday will see the field participating in three practice session. Saturday will see the Race 1 scheduled for 09:15, Race 2 for 13:05 and Race 3 for 17:20.

Tickets can be purchased from the venue on the day at R100/adult, R80/student and with children under the age of 12 getting in for free.

Fans are also invited to meet the drivers in the pit area throughout the weekend. Regular updates will also be provided via the category’s Facebook page.
