Kyalami gears up for another dose of international motorsport with the WEC in 2021

Only weeks after returning to the global motorsports calendar after hosting the 2019 Intercontinental GT Challenge finale, it has been announced that the iconic redeveloped Kyalami Grand Prix circuit situated between Johannesburg and Pretoria, will host a round of the 2020/21 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) super season.

WEC boss Gérard Neveu who attended the Intercontinental GT Challenge in November, said: "Kyalami is a historical circuit, an amazing place with a long story with sportscar racing.

"I had a chance to visit the track a few weeks ago and the place smells of motorsport, and the people there have done an incredible job to rebuild the circuit," he added.

Kyalami will host a 6-hour race on February 6, 2021. The circuit has last hosted a world championship endurance race in 1984.

The 2020/21 season will also see the introduction of the new Le Mans Hypercar class, for which manufacturers like Peugeot and Toyota have already signed up.

The FIA WEC 2020-2021 calendar remains provisional until approved by the FIA World Motor Sport Council, which next meets on 6 March 2020.
