For the love of racing: Cape Town to get a taste of F1 this year

South Africans will finally get to see Formula 1 in their back yard when multiple world championship-winning team Aston Martin Red Bull Racing brings speed, sound - and maybe a couple of doughnuts - to Cape Town’s streets in June.

Red Bull Cape Town Circuit will take place at Cape Town’s iconic Grand Parade on June 2 2019.

Sign for the future?

According to Red Bull: "The Aston Martin Red Bull Racing machine is truly a technological marvel, designed and built by some of the world’s top engineers and has won four back-to-back Formula 1 World Constructors’ Championships.

"Fans will see the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing car speeding along an urban track, starting in front of the iconic City Hall facade."

The car, which accelerates from 0-100km/h in 2.4 seconds, can reach speeds of 250km/h and above, at the hands of one of Aston Martin Red Bull Racing’s experienced drivers.

The international star driver for the Red Bull Cape Town Circuit display will be revealed in the next few months in the lead-up to the event.

Incredible locations

He’ll be joined by a host of South African motorsport stars, who will bring their local brand of South African speed to the show. The Aston Martin Red Bull Racing crew have taken this powerful machine to a number of incredible locations around the world.

Red Bull said: "They’ve powered through the streets of Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, lit up Marseille’s docklands, scythed through Belfast at night and done doughnuts on the roof of a skyscraper in Miami.

"Now, it’s Cape Town’s turn… the day itself will be packed with family-friendly events and entrance will be free."
