Joint championship leaders Jorge Lorenzo and Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa making up an all-Spanish front row, 111 000 spectators - and the fight was on from the start for the 2013 Spanish MotoGP. And ended with a real one...

LORENZO IN CONTROL
It was Jorge Lorenzo from the start, his Yamaha followed by the Hondas of Dani Pedrosa and Marc Marquez (Honda), with Valentino Rossi (Yamaha) in fourth but there was no chance things were going to stay that way and place-swopping started almost immediately.
Remember, only 0.4sec covered the first three in qualifying though Lorenzo seemed to be in control through testing as well.
Lorenzo and Pedrosa began to open up a substantial gap from Marquez and Rossi with Cal Crutchlow filling fifth spot with a semi-rabid Spanish crowd of 111 000 howling from the stands.
With 21 laps of 27 to go the order was Pedrosa, Lorenzo and Marquez with Rossi and Crutchlow still riding shotgun with 0.3sec covering the first three. Already three riders were down, and out, on what they complained was a greasy track - Andrea Iannone (Ducati), Randy de Puniet (ART) and Stefan Bradl's races were run.
With 17 laps to go, Pedrosa was still comfortably leading but the race now was between Alvaro Bautista (Honda) and Crutchlow with the former almost touching the other's rear tyre. It couldn't last and Bautista went through into fifth and by halfway the order was the same but with Pedrosa three seconds clear of Lorenzo. Who was holding what back...?
That was Marquez - and his move came within metres of the flag.
The real battle, as the track got even hotter, was still for fifth between Crutchlow and Bautista who were swopping places lap by lap but we guess the crowd was rooting for the Spanish rookie, Marquez, as he held position in third and llapping in almost exactly the same times as Lorenzo.
LORENZO RAN WIDE
With five to go there was no change in the order but Marquez, still third, was closing slowly on Lorenzo. And by three to go Pedrosa was looking a certainty for the race winner with Lorenzo and Marquez about to make it an all-Spanish finish again.
Then, in the very last few metres, Marquez and Lorenzo collided, a furious Lorenzo running wide to finish third instead of the second he had held for so long in the race.
