WATCH | Video highlights after tough fourth day at #Dakar2020

Toyota Gazoo Racing did not have the easiest of times when the 2020 Dakar got underway. Over the first few days the team contended with various challenges – both with the environment and mechanically on their vehicles.

Over the opening stages the team also saw its drivers climbing and dropping off the overall charts. Things are looking up after Stage 4, however. Nasser Al-Attiyah, the defending 2019 champion, came within striking distance of the overall lead. Though he is yet to win a stage this year, he remains relevant and in contention for overall glory.

Dakar 'greeny', Fernando Alonso, continues to face difficulties in the race and had to contend with three punctures during the stage. Alonso and co-driver Marc Coma are not in contention for overall victory, but they are elated to have finished each of the four stages, including this fourth one.

After coming down with a light flu before the first stage, South Africa’s Giniel de Villiers finds himself some way down on the overall log. De Villiers at least managed to win Stage 2 on Monday, but he’ll be hoping for more if he is to stake a claim on this year’s race.
