Bonafede jnr snapped up by Audi

Audi Motorsport, adding to its already talented list of drivers, has snapped up Gennaro Bonafede for the Bridgestone Production Cars Series.

He started racing at the age of five in 50cc karts and has won a variety of local karting championships between 1995 and 2007 and spent two seasons karting in the UK from 2000. This success on the karting circuit saw him represent South Africa at the 2006 World Karting championships in Italy where he finished an impressive fourth.

GREAT OPPORTUNITY

After being awarded his South African colours for motorsport in 2007 he again represented South Africa, this time at the European VW Polo Cup championships in Germany and ended off the year by being named Rookie of the Year in the championship.

Bonafede matriculated in 2008 and was second in the VW Cup championship in 2008 and 2009. He signed for VW Motorsport in 2010 and raced a Golf 5 GTI in Bridgestone Production Cars Class T and finished the season second before moving down one spot in 2011.

His talent did not go unnoticed and it came as no surprise when he was signed up by racing engineer Vic Maharaj midway through the 2012 season to race in the elite Bridgestone Production Cars Class A in the iconic Audi S4.

Bonafede said: “I am very proud and excited to represent such an amazing brand. To be noticed and signed by Audi Motorsport is a huge thing to me and an opportunity I intend to take with both hands! It won’t be easy but being the youngest in the pack is something I’m used to.”
