A highlight at Volkswagen's Johannesburg International Motor Show stand is the adorable little Up! concept.

Volkswagen SA's management went to great lengths to assure those present at the Up!'s unveiling that the Citi Golf would continue at least into 2010. The manufacturer went so far as to introduce yet another Citi derivative, the CitiWolf 1.4i (pictured below), at the show.

However, a production version of the Up!, of which several body styles will be released, will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2011.

The car, which will likely carry the Lupo nameplate, will be targeted at developing countries.

Volkswagen also used the local show opportunity to announce that it will be rationalising its local production by reducing production to two platforms.

The company mentioned improving economies of scale and increasing local content, but with the flurry of investment in the component manufacturing sector in Uitenhage and surrounds, could VWSA be preparing its operations for Lupo production?

Wheels24 is at the Johannesburg International Motor Show. Check back regularly for updates and video footage straight from the show floor. The show opens to the public from Saturday November 1.
