The gap between the most expensive fuel and the cheapest is staggering with motorists in Hong Kong paying $2.06 more for a litre of petrol than those driving Venezuela.

The difference in prices are due to the various taxes imposed by governments and subsidies for petrol. International oil prices have declined since November. The highest fuel price in the world went down from $2.15 to the current $2.07 the difference is equivalent to R1.10. 

South African motorists were given a breather, paying R1.54 less for petrol and 92c less for diesel earlier in December. The decrease gives many thousands of motorists some relief especially those who are set to embark on road trips during the festive season.
