Cape Town - Former Formula 1 champion Nico Rosberg said earlier in January 2018 that he could be persuaded to come out of retirement if the sport was taken to Las Vegas or returned to South Africa.
"I'd bring back the South African Grand Prix at Kyalami, that sounds damn cool," the German said during a Twitter Q&A posted on his YouTube channel.
SA F1 Grand Prix
We asked readers whether SA is ready to host a Grand Prix and our poll garnered 22 897 votes.
13599 voters (60%) said "Yes, F1 is huge in SA and it will be amazing!"
1791 voters (8%) said "No, there is not enough interest."
7507 voters (33%) said "No, there's too much corruption."
F1 streaming
A major change in the sport for 2018 are plans to ramp up internet coverage of F1 while moving the sport away from free-to-air television.
Sean Bratches, the new F1 commercial chief, is also focused on the digital future.
He told Auto Motor und Sport: "The relaunch of our digital platform is planned. Today it only costs us money. Fans cannot download exclusive content.
"That's going to change. We will introduce a direct streaming offer to the fans for both live content and non-live content. The fans will then get access to data directly from the cars.
"One will be freely available, while the other for serious fans is behind a payment barrier."
We asked Wheels24 readers to vote where the South African F1 Grand Prix should be hosted should it return to homegrounds.
