Vettel finally takes Canadian GP

MONTREAL, Canada - Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel can tick the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve off his list as he dominated the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday.
The Canada GP is the very first win for Red Bull this side of the world having never won in North America before.

After taking pole during qualifying on Saturday, Vettel held onto pole position with all his might taking his third win for 2013.

The reigning World champion screamed through his team radio after crossing the finish line: "Yes! We won Canada...the car was amazing!"

FLYING AHEAD

Vettel was 14.4 seconds ahead of his competitors.

Mercedes’s Lewis Hamilton sadly had to give second place to Fernando Alonso of Ferrari on the 63rd lap as he could no longer fight off the pressure.

Vettel's team mate Mark Webber managed fourth while Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg managed fifth after winning the previous race in Monaco.

The underdogs are moving up and proving their worth as Torro Rosso's Jean-Eric Vergne took sixth place and Paul di Resta from Force India finally scored a point for his team in seventh.

Ferrari's Felipe Massa managed to stay in the top 10 in eighth and Lotus Kimi Raikkonen fought hard for ninth. Force India's second driver Adrian Sutil rounded off the top spot. The latter had a bit of a spin out on lap six but came out of it in good form even though he missed a few positions because of it.

The unlikely star at qualifying Valtteri Bottas was squeezed out from his third position on the grid right at the very first corner and held on as long as he could to his sixth position before being pushed further down the field.

Sauber’s Esteban Gutierrez was out of the race in lap 67.

McLaren's two drivers Sergio Perez and Jenson Button just missed out on scoring any points in the top ten in eleventh and twelve spots respectively.

The pace was turned up quite a few notches after the somewhat boring race in Monaco, despite a couple of crashes causing the safety car to come out and even a red flag. The Canadian GP was a lot more exciting.

Tyres and strategies once again formed key in this race and it's clear that Red Bull has all their ducks in a row.

There will be a three-week break before the next race, the British GP on June 30.
