The head injuries Michael Schumacher sustained in a 2013 skiing accident in the French Alps has left him in a 'very altered and deteriorated' state, says a leading Italian neurosurgeon.
Nicola Acciari was quoted in Italian newspaper Contro Copertina on Tuesday saying that Schumacher is different from the man who won seven Formula 1 titles.
Acciari says the 51-year-old's 'organic, muscular and skeletal structure has deteriorated as a result of the brain trauma he suffered', the Daily Mail reported.
The family has declined to release updates on the former Ferrari driver's health since the accident. Schumacher is recuperating in his Swiss mansion near Lake Geneva.
The German's son, Mick, is also a racing driver and is competing in the FIA's F2 championship for the second season with Prema Theodore Racing. The 20-year-old has also tested in F1 for Alfa Romeo and Ferrari.
