The roar of the Mercedes F1 engine punctured the Silverstone circuit as Valtteri Bottas took out the 2020 W09 car out for testing purposes.

The first race of 2020 Formula 1 season is set for the first week of July at the Spielberg in Austria with no spectators. Several Grand Prix canceled and postponed due to the global coronavirus outbreak.

"Obviously, (I) loved to be back in the car and now I can't wait for Austria," the Finnish driver said. Six-time world champion Lewis Hamilton will be on track Wednesday.

The team is taking precautions to limit the amount of contact between mechanics and the drivers. Mercedes said all the personnel had tested negative for Covid-19.

"Face coverings are particularly important for the team as social distancing is not possible for every role in the garage," the team said.

Team principal, Toto Wolff thanked the fans for their support during the extended shutdown period and asked for it to continue on social media as the season finally gets underway next month behind closed doors.
