From Daniel Ricciardo drinking out of his shoe to Fernando Alonso having no brakes - Top moments of the 2018 F1 season so far

With the Formula 1 season taking a break for the next three weeks and nine races completed, take a look back at some of the best moments so far.

Lewis Hamilton's victory at the Hungarian grand prix means he now leads the championship standings with 213 points and a further 24 ahead of nearest rival, Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel.

The thrills and spills

From Fernando Alonso winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Toyota and calling the Monaco GP 'the most boring race ever' to Max Verstappen calling the Renault engine 'sh-t', there have been plenty of talking points.

Williams are struggling to compete and face a tough task to keep their drivers while Force India recently went into administration, leaving their future up in the air.

Here are some of the top moments of the F1 season so far:

1. Daniel Ricciardo's pool splash celebration

The Australian put in possibly the best drive of his career when he claimed first place at the Monaco grand prix, having to finish a large part of the race with a 25% power deficit.

His celebration that followed was also something to remember when he made his way to a splash pool and dove in fully clothed.

2. 'Mate, I have no brakes'

"Mate, I have no brakes, no tyres, we are out of the points. I mean, we try to do whatever, I don't care too much."

That is the radio message from Fernando Alonso to his team at the French grand prix, airing his frustrations. A true bittersweet moment since his victory at Le Mans just a week prior.

3. Red Bulls crash in spectacular fashion

Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo was trying to go past on the left and Max Verstappen then defended his position in the closing stages of the race.

The Australian ended up driving into the back of his Red Bull team mate and team boss Christian Horner said that the pair both screwed up and owe the Red Bull team an apology.

4. The most painful day for six years'

Mercedes had arguably their worst race of the season when both Lewis Hamilton and Valterri Bottas retired due to mechanical issues.

Bottas retired as early as lap 14 with a hydraulic problem while a drop in pressure in the fuel system brought Hamilton's race to an end on the 63rd lap.

The team's chief strategist took full responsibility for the 'miscalculations' in what was a day to forget for Mercedes.

5. Sebastian Vettel crashes out

In what was supposed to be a celebratory home coming for Sebastian Vettel, it turned into the exact opposite as the Ferrari driver crashed out in the German grand prix.

Lewis Hamilton went on to win the race and extend his lead in the championship at the same time.

6. Daniel Ricciardo's 'shoey' moment after his Chinese grand prix win

Daniel Ricciardo is never too far from extravagant celebrations and him drinking champagne out of his shoe following his win at the Chinese grand prix, is one of them.
