A 25-year-old Ayrton Senna competed in his first Formula 1 season in 1984 driving a Toleman TG184 after testing for several teams the year before, including Williams, McLaren, and Brabham.

As we've come to know about Formula 1 there is a lot of politics in the sport; Senna couldn't drive for Lotus or Brabham because the team's title sponsors wanted a British driver and an Italian driver respectively. Money talks, remember?

So, Senna raced for a relatively new outfit: Toleman. The Brazilian scored his first point at Kyalami in the South African Grand Prix in only his race despite struggling with muscle spasms; he finished sixth.

But it was a result at the Monaco GP in the pouring rain that Senna showed his mettle, despite starting 13th on the grid, the Toleman driver scythed his way through the field.

A brilliant move saw Senna past second-placed Niki Lauda on the outside of turn 17 into La Rascasse. It's a brave move, but the Brazilian makes it stick and ultimately went on to finish second behind Alain Prost after the race was halted on lap 31 due to adverse weather conditions.

Senna was catching the Frenchman by four seconds a lap, which meant the Brazilian might have gone on to win his first GP.
