Teams locked out of F1 tyre test

Formula 1’s top three teams from the 2013 season will provide cars for Pirelli’s 2014 tyre testing in Bahrain on the Arabian Peninsula over December 17-19 2013.

'Lesser' teams have objected and there are rumours that McLaren will use its 2013 car for the testing in Bahrain3.

Mercedes' Ross Brawn said: "It would be unfortunate if one team had the benefit of running a (2014) tyre to the exclusion of the others."

TEAMS LOCKED OUT

Italy's La Gazzetta dello Sport and Autosprint have reported that the 2013 Bahrain test will be attended by three teams: Red Bull, Mercedes and Ferrari, outfits which finished the 2013 Constructors' championship first, second and third respectively.

Autosprint said Lotus, fourth overall in 2013, was also invited but declined because of the cost. McLaren finished fifth.

La Gazzetta dello Sport said the collected tyre data would be made available to all of the other teams, which would be invited to send observers to Bahrain.

Autosprint correspondent Alberto Antonini said the other teams were not happy to have been effectively locked out , handing an early advantage to the 2013 front-trunners.
