PARIS, France - Michelin is still in the running to become a Formula 1 tyre supplier in 2017.
Although some had questioned the French brand’s push to ensure the sport moved to a lower-profile wheel-rim size, it was believed Michelin had satisfied the International Automobile Federation that it was technically competent to be considered for the 2017-19 contract.
'HAPPY TO STAY'
Pirelli, F1's sole existing supplier, was also still in the running but there was speculation that the federation’s president, Frenchman Jean Todt, might be keen to see Michelin secure the deal.
Italian supplier Pirelli's F1 chief Paul Hembery told a German newspaper, Bild: "I have no fear of us being pushed out. We are fighting - we'd be happy to stay.”
