Schumie not 'reference' at Merc

Nico Rosberg has undoubtedly had the measure of seven-times World world champion Michael Schumacher since the  returned to the sport in 2010.

That's the reluctant view of Sebastian Vettel, the 2011 World champion who's so close to Schumacher that the German news media often refers to him as Baby Schumi.

'FORGOTTEN NOTHING'

Throughout most of Schumacher's 16-years first time around in F1 he dominated the sport but since returning with Mercedes in 2010 it's been team mate Nico Rosberg who has shone the brighter - Germany's Sport1 even pointed out that he has beaten Schumacher in qualifying 36:13 and that their points ratio is 308:177 with Rosberg scoring five podiums to Schumacher's once-off top-three finish.

Vettel had to admit that his friend and mentor has been outshone.

"You can say Michael has forgotten nothing and is clearly not struggling," the Red Bull driver Vettel was quoted as saying, "but Nico has done an awfully good job and has usually been the reference (at Mercedes)."

'DRIVERS WORKING WELL'

Whatever, it looks like 43-year-old Schumacher will sign on to remain alongside Rosberg for 2013. Mercedes chief Norbert Haug recently said he doubted there would be an announcement at Spa in September (2012), widely interpreted as a clear sign that an announcement of a new deal would be made eventually.

Team boss Ross Brawn is hinting similarly, having told F1's official website that Mercedes' current driver line-up is working well.

So why the delay in signing off Schumacher's 2013 contract? "I think this is a very important decision for all the people involved," Brawn said. "We won't be rushed on the decision and, when the time is appropriate, we will announce what we are going to do."
