Ricciardo beat the Mercedes ace's two-year-old Top Gear fastest-lap record during the show's “star in a reasonably-priced car” episode on Sunday (Feb 8).
Ricciardo, driving a Suzuki Liana, lapped seven-tenths of a second faster than his Mercedes rival to set a time of 1min42.2.
‘NEVER THE SAME AGAIN’
Red Bull posted a tongue-in-cheek appreciation on its website: "Tonight it's all beer and skittles for the Honey Badger. He can kick back with a pizza and a deep sense of achievement.
"Life will never be the same again for our young Australian. The team now needs to get him focused and back to the day job of driving the world's fastest, most powerful, single-seaters. It's going to be a long haul but Daniel's a dedicated competitor."
Ricciardo won three F1 races in 2014, the only non-Mercedes driver to stand on the podium.
