LONDON, England - The McLaren Formula 1 team has not found a title sponsor to replace telecoms group Vodafone in time for the 2014 launch of its latest car.
McLaren is in talks with potential partners but uncertain whether the team will be able to bring in a title sponsor for 2014 after the telecoms group dropped out at the end of the 2013 season.
McLaren, which for the first time since 1980, never made the podium in 2013. It had the funds to compete despite the loss of Vodacom's estimated R812-million.
BIGGER BUDGET
McLaren managing director Jonathan Neale said: "I'm pleased to say McLaren will have a larger operational budget in 2014 than it's had in any previous season."
Neale pointed to a roster of sponsors, among them clothing company Hugo Boss and banking group Santander.
The team is owned by three shareholders who can also help with support - Bahraini investment fund Mumtalakat, Saudi businessman Mansour Ojjeh and group chief executive Ron Dennis.
McLaren will present its MP4-29 car on Friday January 24 2014 at 2pm (SA time) in an online-only launch.
