MONTE CARLO, Monaco - Rookie Marcus Ericsson will start the 2014 Monaco GP from the pits-lane after causing a collision with Felipe Massa's Williams during qualifying on Saturday (May 24).
The incident happened during the Q1 phase as Ericsson tried to pass Massa on the inside of the Mirabeau turn and, even though he seemed to have enough room, lost control and both cars hit the barriers.
TRACK INCIDENTS
Massa, who joined Williams from Ferrari in 2013, was 10th best in Q1, but he had to return to the pits and was subsequently ruled out of Q2.
In a separate incident, Toro Rosso driver Daniil Kvyat of Russia was given a reprimand when he was ruled to have impeded Lotus’ Pastor Maldonado at Turn 19 during Q1.
