Lap 55 Yellow flags in Sector 1 for Ricciardo's parked car. Gearbox problem to blame for Ricciardo's DNF.
Lap 55 Hamilton passes Ricciardo, but it's because the Red Bull driver has a mechanical problem. He parks his car on the side of the road. Not the birthday present he was hoping for.

Lap 43 Ricciardo is given a bit of a hurry-up as they tell him other drivers are reporting blisters.
Lap 42 Back to James Vowles and this what he told Hamilton: "Lewis, it's James. I have thrown away the win but you have the potential opportunity to get back up. Just let the tyres cool, we trust in you and believe in you."
Lap 41 Hamilton now reports that his tyres are now blistering and he could come under pressure from Ricciardo.
Lap 41 Hamilton is on the radio after that he tells the team "I don't know how I am going to overtake these guys today". The reply is from the Merc chief strategist again as he urges Hamilton to keep his head down despite being let down by the team.
Lap 40 Vettel went on the outside of Hamilton at Turn 3 and just outmuscled the Mercedes driver.
Lap 39 Well, well, well. Vettel is up to third place as he overtakes Hamilton.
Lap 39 Ricciardo finally pits and that puts Hamilton up to third place with Vettel now fourth. The Red Bull man took on the supersofts.

Lap 28 Leclerc has another look, but no way through. He goes on the inside and this time he pulls away.
Lap 27 Stroll is coming under pressure from Leclerc. They are fighting over P14. The Sauber man goes on the inside and he outmuscles Stroll, but the Williams driver hits back and regains the position.
Lap 26 Will Hamilton be able to overtake the likes of Raikkonen, Ricciardo and Verstappen before the end of the race? Will the tyres of the front runners last until the end of the race?
Lap 25 Hamilton pits and he rejoins in P4, just ahead of Vettel. He came in to ensure that he rejoins ahead of Vettel, which he did.

Lap 23 Ricciardo is told that "Hamilton is gonna go long and then attack at the end".

Lap 22 Hamilton's lead is not really getting any bigger as it's still 13.1s.
Lap 21 Clean pass from Ricciardo on Raikkonen and he is up to P3. Raikkonen looks like he is struggling on the fresher rubber.
Lap 20 Grosjean complained that Vandoorne was holding him up, but he has now passed the McLaren.
Lap 19 Ricciardo is now once again within DRS range of Raikkonen.
Lap 18 Hamilton is indeed putting the foot down now as he posts another fastest lap of 1:08.228 and that puts him 13s clear of Verstappen. That's obviously not enough to keep him ahead should he stop now.
Lap 18 Ricciardo has been told that Hamilton didn't pit and "we are now in his pit stop window".
Lap 18 The incident between Raikkonen and Verstappen on the opening lap is now also under investigation.
Lap 17 Vettel reclaims P5 as he eases past Haas following his pit stop.
Lap 16 Hamilton is still out on the track. We are racing again as the track is green.
Lap 16 Plenty of action in the pit lane as Red Bull and Ferrari double stack with both their cars making pit stops.
Lap 16 The Virtual Safety Car has been deployed as they clear Bottas' car. Shake of the head from the Finn as he waits by the side of the track.
Lap 15 And now Bottas has a problem. He parks the car and that's another DNF for the Finn. The team tells him "we've lost hydraulic pressure".
Lap 15 Ricciardo is told "possible oil at Turn 10 to Turn 1".
Lap 14 Hulkenberg was told "yep, game over". He would've known that just by looking at the flames coming from the rear of his Renault.
Lap 13 The Renault of Hulkenberg has caught fire. His engine is gone and he has parked his car. Rotten luck for the German. "I have lost power," he told the team before the engine went up in smoke.
Lap 12 Alonso having another moan as tells the team to"think about the strategy" as he doesn't want to be stuck behind Hartley for 70 laps.
Lap 11 Back to the start yet again and Raikkonen complained that the Red Bull hit him at the start. Replays show that Verstappen did indeed make contact with the Ferrari, which might explain why he went wide.
Lap 10 The incidents involving Vandoorne and Gasly, and Sainz and Ocon on the opening lap are being investigated by the stewards.
Lap 9 Haas are the best of the rest with Grosjean and Magnussen seventh and eighth, respectively. Hopefully they will stay out of each other's way and the pit crew will not make any mistakes today.
Lap 9 Another fastest lap of 1:08.972 from Hamilton and that puts him 2.1s clear of Bottas.
Lap 8 Raikkonen just about managing to keep Ricciardo at bay, but this is allowing Vettel to catch up to them.
Lap 8 Raikkonen has now also complained about debris on the track.
Lap 7 Ricciardo is now within DRS range of Raikkonen.
Lap 6 Vandoorne had to pit early on for a new nose and he has already been lapped by the front runners.
Lap 5 Hamilton has told the team that there is still debris on the track and that is from Vandoorne front wing, which took a blow on the opening lap. He made contact with Gasly.
Lap 4 Back to the start and Raikkonen went in the middle of the two Merc cars, but he then locked up while trying to go on the outside. He went off track the same time as Vettel, but both managed to get it back the car.
Lap 4 So then it's Hamilton from Bottas, Verstappen, Raikkonen, Ricciardo, Vettel, Grosjean, Magnussen, Hulkenberg and Ocon.
Lap 3 Ricciardo had a go at Raikkonen at Turn 3, but no way through. Here's Vettel on Grosjean and he uses DRS to move up to P6.
Lap 3 Hamilton is now in clear air as he has a 1.3s lead over Bottas.
Lap 2 One of the Sauber goes wide at sector two. It's Leclerc.
Lap 2 Vettel made a terrible start, but he is back up to P7, sandwiched between the two Haas cars.
Lap 1 Now Bottas fights back and he regains second place ahead of Raikkonen, but here comes Verstappen on the Finn and he gets P3 back.
Lap 1 Raikkonen tries to go on teh outside of Hamilton, but he runs off the track and loses a couple of places.
Lap 1 The lights go out and Bottas is under pressure immediately. He gets squeezed out as Hamilton takes the lead ahead of Raikkonen. Verstappen is also ahead of Bottas.
16:01 Of course Alonso is sitting in the pit lane.
16:00 Bottas leads the pack around the track on the reconnaissance lap. They are all away without problems.
15:08 McLaren boss Eric Boullier was really not in a talkative mood when he was asked about Alonso's pit lane start. "Well, it's a pit lane start where we'll be starting and the driver is Fernando." Thanks for that Eric.
15:06 Before the race gets underway, we nearly forgot to mention that it's Daniel Ricciardo's birthday today. The Australian is 29 today.
15:02 The Mercedes and Red Bull cars will start on the supersoft tyres while the Ferrari pair are on the ultrasofts. Pirelli predicts a one-stop strategy from most teams.
14:58 The anthem was accompanied by a helicopter with an Austrian flag and a mosaic in the grandstands.
14:57 It is time for the Austrian national anthem.
14:52 Gerhard Berger is another who thinks Merc will control the race from the front.
14:45 A look at the weather and it's currently 22 degree Celsius while the track temp is sitting at 47.
14:41 In case you missed it, Red Bull duo Verstappen and Ricciardo both turned up in lederhosen this morning.
14:37 There are apparently 35,000 Dutch fans in Austria today.
14:33 The pit lane is now open and cars are flooding out for their first laps around the circuit today.
14:27 The grandstands are packed and it's all orange with thousands of Dutch fans here to support Verstappen.
14:24 Christian Horner says he expects Mercedes to manage to the race from the front. Not good news, especially with Hamilton also admitting he doesn't expect too much overtaking.
14:20 And yet another grid update, Hartley will now start at the back as Honda has made changes to his engine.
14:16 We have another grid update as Alonso will now start from the pit lane due to an engine penalty.
14:13 Back to Vettel's penalty, he will only start P6 and that means Raikkonen, Verstappen and Grosjean all move up one place. Charles Leclerc qualified 13th fastest, but he required a gearbox change and will start 18th.
14:10 If you are wondering about the McLarens, then Fernando Alonso was 14th fastest and Stoffel Vandoorne two places below him. Meanwhile at the back of the grid, Brendon Hartley and Marcus Ericsson occupy the final row.
14:08 Kimi Raikkonen was fourth fastest with Max Verstappen fifth and Romain Grosjean. Daniel Ricciardo, Kevin Magnussen, Carlos Sainz and Nico Hulkenberg completed the top 10.
14:07 If you missed qualifying on Saturday, Valtteri Bottas was the man of the moment as he claimed his first pole position of the season, edging team-mate Hamilton by just 0.019s with Vettel third fastest. However, the Ferrari man will start from P6 after he was slapped with a three-place grid penalty for blocking Carlos Sainz.
14:03 Today's race marks the ninth of the 21-grand prix season. And just an update on the standings, Lewis Hamilton leads Sebastian Vettel by 14 points with Daniel Ricciardo another 35 points adrift in third place. In the Constructors' standings, Mercedes have a 33-point advantage over Ferrari.
14:00 Greetings and welcome to our live coverage of the 2018 Austrian Grand Prix from Spielberg.
16:03 Join us tomorrow for the race, where Valtteri Bottas will lead the pack away form the front. See you then. Cheers.
16:02 It is an all Mercedes front row, with Bottas and Hamilton ahead of Vettel and Raikkonen. The Red Bulls and Haases are split, with Verstappen, Grosjean, Ricciardo, Magnussen, Sainz and Hulkenberg rounding out the top ten!
16:00 VALTTERI BOTTAS TAKES POLE POSITION!!
15:56 Both Red Bulls went again, but neither could get ahead of Romain Grosjean's Haas, who remains P4.
15:53 After the first runs: BOT RAI HAM GRO VER RIC VET MAG SAI HUL...
15:51 NEW TRACK RECORD: Valtteri Bottas sets Spielberg alight on the first runs, with a 63.2 second lap, more than half a second clear of the rest.
15:50 Max Verstappen is first on the board with a 1:04.0
15:49 The stewards are investigating Sebastian Vettel for "impeding Carlos Sainz" during Q2.
15:48 GREEN LIGHT IN Q3: The two Red Bulls are the two men to go out first in the final part of qualifying.
15:47 The final twelve minutes of qualifying is all about raw speed, with the tyre strategies sorted for Sunday's race. It should be the US for all ten cars.
15:45 So we are two by two for Q3, with two Mercedes, Ferraris, Red Bulls, Haases and Renaults in the top ten shootout.
15:43 The Ferraris took the US route, while both Mercedes and Red Bull have gone with SS to start the race tomorrow.
15:41 END OF Q2: Ocon, Gasly, Leclerc, Alonso and Stroll at the five men to drop out from Q2.
15:40 Alonso will not make the top ten, having run wide at the final turn and losing part of the front wing on his McLaren.
15:38 All the cars are back out on track for the final push towards Q3.
15:35 FIVE MINUTES TO GO: HAM BOT VET RAI VER GRO MAG SAI RIC GAS... DROP ZONE: HUL OCO LEC ALO STR.
15:32 Daniel Ricciardo only goes P11 with his first run, as he encountered traffic.
15:31 Red Bull look like they have gone for the SS tyre as well, while Fernando Alonso has the S tyres on his McLaren.
15:29 We are under 64 seconds to start Q2, a brand new track record for Lewis Hamilton. A 1:03.5 puts him ahead of Bottas (1:03.7) and Vettel (1:03.7).
15:28 It looks like Mercedes have gone for the SS while Ferrari have gone for the US.. Could make for an interesting start to the race tomorrow afternoon.
15:26 After a minute of almost nothing.. Charles Leclerc is the first man out on track for Qualifying 2.
15:25 GREEN LIGHT FOR Q2: The second session is underway, with fifteen drivers and fifteen minutes to decide who the top ten will be.
15:23 So Mercedes were 1-2 in Q1, while Grosjean made P4. Williams have a car through to Q2, but lost one in the bottom five. Also losing a car were McLaren, Toro Rosso, Sauber and Force India.
15:20 The five drivers out from Q1: Vandoorne, Perez, Sirotkin, Hartley, Ericsson.
15:19 THERE IS A WILLIAMS THROUGH TO Q2... IT HAS HAPPENED!
15:17 The top 11 are all in the 1:04s, with Gasly, Sainz, Ocon and Vandoorne the drivers at risk from the bottom five.
15:16 Romain Grosjean goes P4, while Sergio Perez is now bottom of the lot.
15:13 FIVE MINUTES TO GO: HAM BOT RAI VER VET GRO RIC MAG HUL SAI OCO GAS LEC SIR HAR..... DROP ZONE: VAN STR ALO PER ERI.
15:10 Austria is the shortest lap on the calendar, with a 64 second lap.. And the 20 man field is separated by just 1.7 seconds.
15:09 Charles Leclerc runs wide at Turn 9 and loses some of his front wing.. That will require a nose change for the Monegasque driver.
15:08 Bottas goes quickest with a 1:04.1...
15:07 The two Haas' go within five tenths of the fastest time, and sit P5 and P6.
15:05 Lewis Hamilton goes fastest with a 1:04.2, with Sebastian Vettel, Valtteri Bottas and Kimi Raikkonen within four tenths.
15:03 Charles Leclerc puts in the first flying lap of the session, with a 1:05.6, before Sergey Sirotkin and Lance Stroll go faster.
15:00 GREEN LIGHT: Qualifying is underway, with Brendon Hartley the first man out on track.
14:57 The three tyres available for the weekend are the softs (S), supersofts (SS) and ultrasofts (US), but which tyre will the top runners go for in Q2 to start the race on?
14:53 Max Verstappen's car will be ready for Q1, while Charles Leclerc's might not be.. Both Stoffel Vandoorne's and Kevin Magnussen's car are still having work done to them at this late point...
14:49 One note for Qualifying is that Charles Leclerc will have a five-place grid penalty, after the gearbox was changed on his Sauber.
14:45 Again, the two Williams were in P19 and P20 in FP3, and it could be another poor weekend for the team...
14:43 Both Brendon Hartley and Stoffel Vandoorne found trouble by going over the kerbs in FP3, much like Pierre Gasly did yesterday afternoon.
14:38 Sebastian Vettel topped the time sheets in FP3 this morning, with the two Mercedes behind. Max Verstappen ended his session early after his RB14 lost power.
14:36 Will it be a 76th pole position for Lewis Hamilton, or will Valtteri Bottas take his second pole in a row in Austria?
14:30 Hello and welcome to our coverage of Qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix at Spielberg. Q1 starts in 30 minutes time.
13:01 Vettel ends quickest of all ahead of Hamilton while Verstappen ends with a walk back to the pits joined by Leclerc. Join us in two hours for qualifying for the Austrian GP. Cheers.
13:00 The chequered flag is out...
12:58 And now Leclerc has stopped. He reports a problem with the engine and pulls over.
12:53 Problems for Red Bull as Verstappen's RB14 has shut down. He went off onto the gravel and the car shut down on him.
12:51 Leclerc has a bit of a lock up at Turn 4 that costs him a couple of tenths. He stays P9.
12:47 Hamilton lost time in the middle sector but made it up in the final and climbs to second place, 0.026s down on Vettel's best.
12:46 Hartley is on an old spec front wing after his earlier issue.
12:44 Vettel lays down a lap record, a 1:04.070.
12:43 Vandoorne may have been told to keep it off the kerbs but clearly that hasn't registered as he has again ridden along the kerbs and again damaged the front right of his wing.
12:41 If this were qualifying the dropzone would be Gasly, Perez, Hartley, Stroll and Sirotkin.
12:40 Leclerc, who reportedly has agreed a two-year Ferrari contract but is yet to sign it, is up to ninth place.
12:38 Raikkonen recovers from his off to go quickest with a 1:04.470.
12:36 A piece of Hartley's wing is sitting on the runoff area after he hit the kerbs.
12:35 Now Raikkonen is eating dirt at Turn 7.
12:34 Verstappen has an off track excursion but removes his way onto the track.
12:30 Hamilton briefly loses the back end of his Mercedes W09 but manages to catch it.
12:26 Ricciardo makes his mark in sixth place, slower than the Haas of Grosjean, while Verstappen is out on the track on the hot lap.
12:25 Vandoorne is back in the pits with his front left wing getting a really close up inspection. Looks like it has once again been damaged by the kerbs.
12:22 New P1 now as Bottas hits the front as Vettel goes second. Raikkonen is fourth for Ferrari but still nothing from the Red Bull duo.
12:21 But loses P1 to Hamilton. A 1:04.672 for the Mercedes driver.
12:20 Vettel goes purple in the middle sector as he ups his pace to a 1:04.699.
12:19 Looked for a moment as if the Dutch fans were going to see Verstappen but alas he is still in the pits.
12:18 Vettel and Hamilton are both out on ultrasoft tyres. Vettel hits the front with a 1:04.920 with Hamilton fourth quickest.
12:15 Here comes Bottas and he goes second, a tenth off Raikkonen's best. Both are running the ultrasoft tyres. Bottas was purple in the final sector.
12:14 Raikkonen goes quickest 1:04.937, Alonso is second ahead of Sainz and Vandoorne.
12:11 We have some more action with Gasly, Hartley and Sainz heading out to get their programmes underway.
12:10 Alonso joins Raikkonen on the track with McLaren hoping that today's times will be a vast improvement on yesterday's disappointment.
12:06 A 1:05.8 for Raikkonen is the session's first lap time.
12:05 Oh hey good news... the FIA and Charlie Whiting are allowing the teams an extra set of intermediate tyres to use this session should it rain. So instead of the usual four, they'll have five and hopefully we'll get more running if the rain comes.
12:04 Raikkonen is the latest man to leave the pits for an installation lap but it looks as if he may be starting a timed lap. Could this be the first of the session?
12:02 Grosjean reveals he found a bit of traffic as he came out of the pit lane. Thankfully no harm done.
12:00 Green light and off we go with Alonso the first man out of the pits.
11:55 This is the shortest lap time wise on the calendar, there are eight corners but many would argue that Turn 2 is not really a turn, huge elevation changes, and a fastest time through the speedtrap of 320kph clocked by Raikkonen in FP1.
11:48 Unlike on Friday where the there was a threat of rain, today there is only a small chance of rainfall and that's for this evening only. The track temperature is up to 30'C with 12 minutes to the green light.
11:45 It was not a great day for Fernando Alonso or Lance Stroll as they were the two slowest drivers in FP2. The rest of the top ten: 11 Carlos Sainz Renault 1.42s 37 laps US; 12 Charles Leclerc Sauber 1.517s 30 laps US; 13 Esteban Ocon Force India 1.554s 42 laps US; 14 Marcus Ericsson Sauber 1.62s 29 laps US; 15 Nico Hulkenberg Renault 1.694s 42 laps US; 16 Sergey Sirotkin Williams 1.747s 47 laps US; 17 Brendon Hartley Toro Rosso 1.753s 53 laps SS; 18 Sergio Perez Force India 1.775s 47 laps US; 19 Fernando Alonso McLaren 1.85s 32 laps SS; 20 Lance Stroll Williams 2.047s 43 laps US.
11:39 The kerbs caused havoc on Friday with Stoffel Vandoorne, Gasly, Brendon Hartley and Verstappen all breaking bits and bobs on their cars. Front wings were the main casualty but Verstappen also managed to damage his floor on the yellow kerbs in the final sector.
11:34 Friday's running was all Lewis Hamilton as the Mercedes driver topped both sessions in his upgraded W09 - and he did it using the soft Pirellis, not the ultrasoft tyres that the rest of the top ten except Pierre Gasly used. The top ten: 1 Lewis Hamilton Mercedes 1:04.579 36 laps S; 2 Valtteri Bottas Mercedes 0.176s 41 laps US; 3 Sebastian Vettel Ferrari 0.236s 52 laps US; 4 Daniel Ricciardo Red Bull 0.452s 47 laps SS; 5 Max Verstappen Red Bull 0.546s 47 laps US; 6 Kimi Raikkonen Ferrari 0.686s 41 laps US; 7 Romain Grosjean Haas 0.85s 36 laps US; 8 Kevin Magnussen Haas 0.98s 40 laps US; 9 Pierre Gasly Toro Rosso 1.179s 30 laps SS; 10 Stoffel Vandoorne McLaren 1.351s 46 laps US.
11:30 Good morning and welcome back to the Red Bull Ring for the third and final practice hour of the weekend. This it the last chance for the teams to nail a perfect set-up ahead of this afternoon's qualifying hour. All times are local.
16:36 Thanks for sticking with us for the last two hours or so through FP2. Join us again tomorrow morning for FP3, where Lewis Hamilton will look to make it three from three in Austria.
16:33 The final standings at the end of the second session: HAM BOT VET RIC VER RAI GRO MAG GAS VAN SAI LEC OCO ERI HUL SIR HAR PER ALO STR.
16:30 The chequered flag is out for the end of FP2!
16:26 Magnussen comes in for a tyre change, but his right front tyre was not attached to the car properly, and the words "Stop the car, Kevin! Stop the car!" are heard over the radio.
16:20 TEN MINUTES TO GO: HAM BOT VET RIC VER RAI GRO MAG GAS VAN SAI LEC OCO ERI HUL SIR HAR PER ALO STR
16:16 19 cars are currently out on track, with Fernando Alonso the only man to be sat in the pits, after having a moment at Turn 7, putting a wheel in the gravel.
16:14 The teams are now onto long runs, with Mercedes and Ferrari both in the 1:08s consistently, while the Red Bull pairing are both down in the 1:09s.
16:08 The Toro Rosso mechanics have done a good job on Pierre Gasly's car, and the Frenchman is being strapped back in to the #10 car.
16:06 Alonso runs wide at Turn 6 at loses part of his front wing, adding to his woes in FP2.
16:00 Half an hour to go in FP2 in Spielberg, with both Mercedes still topping the charts. Behind the Silver Arrows pair are Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo, Max Verstappen and Kimi Raikkonen in the big six.
15:53 Kimi Raikkonen puts in his best lap of the session, but only goes into P6.
15:49 Fernando Alonso is back on track after the mechanics fixed the floor of his McLaren.
15:48 Lance Stroll puts in his fastest lap of FP2, but remains P20, and two seconds off the pace, on just a 64 second lap (Hamilton).
15:47 Halfway through FP2: HAM BOT VET RIC VER GRO RAI MAG GAS VAN SAI LEC ERI OCO HUL SIR HAR PER ALO STR.
15:42 GREEN FLAG: The session is back underway, with 48 minutes to go here in FP2.
15:38 The Frenchman went over the sausage kerbs on the exit of Turn 9, breaking the left front suspension on his Toro Rosso, eventually coming to a halt on the exit of Turn 10.
15:37 RED FLAG: Pierre Gasly is out of the session as his front left suspension breaks on one of the many kerbs around Spielberg, bringing out the red flag.
15:36 Haas look like they could be the 'best of the rest' for the second straight weekend, with Romain Grosjean P6 and Kevin Magnussen P8, sandwiching Kimi Raikkonen.
15:33 With just over half an hour gone in this session, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas lead the way in FP2.
15:27 Fernando Alonso's car is in the garage, and is having a new floor put on it. More time out for the McLaren team this weekend.
15:24 Valtteri Bottas moves into P2 to make it a Mercedes 1-2 so far.
15:20 Hamilton now goes deeper into the 1:04s, with Vettel, Ricciardo and Bottas all within four tenths of the Brit.
15:17 Lewis Hamilton's first lap puts him into P2 on the soft tyres.
15:15 15 minutes into the session and both Mercedes have come out on track for the first time.
15:15 Vettel takes his Ferrari into the 1:04s, moving five tenths clear of his team-mate.
15:14 Daniel Ricciardo moves into P3, while the two Mercedes have not left the pits yet.
15:10 Sebastian Vettel moves top with a 1:05.2.
15:09 Raikkonen goes another two tenths faster to extend his gap at the top, while Pierre Gasly has moved into P4.
15:06 Both Ferraris move into the 1:05s, with Kimi Raikkonen (SS) going ahead of Sebastian Vettel (S), and now Charles Leclerc (S).
15:05 Fernando Alonso goes quickest with a 1:06.429.
15:04 The two Saubers are now quickest, with Charles Leclerc less than a tenth quicker than Marcus Ericsson.
15:03 Grosjean puts in a 1:07.387 with the first lap of FP2.
15:01 The two drivers who still remain pointless in 2018, Romain Grosjean and Sergey Sirotkin, are first two out on track.
15:00 GREEN LIGHT: The second session is now underway.
14:57 The softs (S), supersofts (SS) and ultrasofts (US) are the three tyres on offer this weekend in Spielberg.
14:52 Just under 10 minutes to go until the start of FP2, with the teams all getting their cars ready for the second session of the weekend.
14:48 McLaren were given a $10,000 fine by the stewards for an unsafe release of Stoffel Vandoorne's car out of the pits during FP1.
14:45 Looking forward to the second session then, with 15 minutes to go until the green light. Will Mercedes dominate again? Can either Red Bull or Ferrari get to the top of a session for the first time in this triple header?
14:44 FP1 was a bad session for the McLaren duo, though, who finished in P17 and P18.
14:42 Robert Kubica also took part in FP1 for Williams, in place of Sergey Sirotkin. The Pole was slowest of the 20 drivers, while Lance Stroll was P16.
14:40 Then came the Red Bulls and Ferraris in the top six, whilst there was a single Haas, Force India, Sauber and Toro Rosso in the top ten in FP1.
14:36 The two Mercedes led the way in FP1, the only two cars to break the 65 second barrier.
14:30 Hello and welcome to our coverage of the second practice session for the Austrian Grand Prix. The lights will go green in half an hour's time.
12:32 That is it for now. Join us in two hours for FP2. Cheers.
12:30 Chequered flag is waved and FP1 has concluded with a P1 for Hamilton and a 1-2 for Mercedes. Verstappen is third fastest as Red Bull's home track.
12:26 Ricciardo is back out on track and has a set of ultrasoft tyres on his RB14.
12:25 Stroll reports there is "something wrong" with the downshifts.
12:24 A few changes to Ricciardo's car including a cambre change as he waits to go out for a final run of the session.
12:20 Vandoorne has finally moved off the final rung of the grid as he improves to 18th place.
12:17 Williams have revealed that Kubica's slow time has nothing to do with the driver and everything to do with his programme. He's doing the nitty gritty work of testing various concepts, ride heights, set ups, etc with no aim of setting a good lap time.
12:14 Verstappen returns to the track on a used set of ultrasoft tyres.
12:10 Haas reveal that Magnussen's session is over as there is a small leak and he also has no more tyres left for FP1.
12:06 He is still on the soft tyres as it Alonso, who has been told to avoid the kerbs after Vandoorne's earlier issue.
12:05 Kubica has improved his lap time but the Williams reserve driver remains slowest of the 20 runners.
12:01 Hamilton responds to the closing of the gap with a new fastest lap time, a 1:04.839. And Bottas is back up to second.
12:00 Back to a Mercedes 1-2, nope Verstappen is now second, 0.035s off the pace.
11:57 Another hot lap from Vettel puts him second while Magnussen goes flying off the track at the final corner.
11:56 Lance Stroll has just jumped up to 11th place on the ultrasoft tyres. He is 1.5s off the pace.
11:55 Bottas ups his pace but remains second as he loses ground to Hamilton in the final sector.
11:50 Bottas is out on a set of ultrasoft tyres and he goes quickest with a 1:05.354. And then Hamilton beats him by 0.317s.
11:48 Vettel goes second, and Raikkonen goes off.
11:46 Purples for Vettel as the Ferrari driver heads out for a second run.
11:41 Tyres are being returned and only Grosjean on a brand new set of supersofts is lapping.
11:38 As he pulls into the pits it is clear to see that the nose is cracked on the right side resulting in the wing hanging down. Replaces show Vandoorne riding the rumple strip resulting in his nose cracking. Gasly lost a piece of his car on the same strip.
11:37 Vandoorne reports that he "thinks the front wing is hanging off". It is!
11:36 Ricciardo on the soft tyres jumps up to second place, 0.046s down.
11:34 Turn 4 and Verstappen eats dirt and spins.
11:33 Alonso, with his McLaren sporting a whole lot of green flo-vis paint, is out for his first timed lap of the day. But it is a slow one, rather a controlled lap as McLaren test the front right of the car.
11:31 Verstappen is up to fifth place ahead of his as-yet-unsigned team-mate Ricciardo. Gasly is best of the rest ahead of Sainz, Magnussen and Grosjean.
11:29 Yikes, fun and games in the pit lane as Vandoorne is released into the path of Vettel. The Ferrari driver is forced to brake hard and reports that he "nearly crashed into the McLaren."
11:26 Gasly just used some delightful language on Leclerc who he feels is going to slow and on the racing line.
11:25 And Hamilton pips him, a 1:05.525 for the World Champion. Vettel is up to third.
11:24 Another improvement from Bottas as he has upped his pace to a 1:05.681 before pitting and heading back out almost immediately.
11:21 Lock up for Hamilton as he makes it a Mercedes 1-2, 0.018s down on Bottas' best. He is running the supersoft Pirellis.
11:20 Vettel asks Ferrari if the "display" for his brakes his correct. Told it is, he reports that the front right is not working. That's not fun.
11:17 Bottas is into the 1:05s, just, with a 1:05.995.
11:15 Here comes Hamilton now and he is P3 as Verstappen lowers the benchmark to a 1:06.4.
11:14 A 1:06.7 for Bottas puts him P2.
11:13 Bottas heads out in his updated Mercedes, which is carrying all the bits and bobs that the team have brought this weekend.
11:10 A playmate for Verstappen as Sergio Perez joins the action. Verstappen's latest time is a 1:06.9.
11:06 Looks like Charles Leclerc will be the one to clock the morning's... nope, he pits. Now it is Verstappen in front of the Dutch fans who would do it. He does. A 1:08.474 for the Red Bull driver.
11:04 Mercedes' upgraded includes lengthened mirror stalks and there is some debate over the legality of those and their bits and bobs. Teams aren't allowed to use them for aerodynamics but with a twist in the carbon fibre, those are definitely aero related.
11:01 The drivers head out one by one for installation laps including Robert Kubica, who is back on duty for Williams.
11:00 Green light and off we go...
10:54 Air temperature is 19'C and the track is up to 26. There are clouds overhead and a 45 percent chance of rainfall today.
10:49 There's some good news this morning for the Renault runners, Red Bull, Renault and McLaren, as the French manufacturer have finally got their own qualifying 'party mode' and are ready to unleash it this Saturday. Should be interesting to see how it compares to Mercedes'.
10:47 Mercedes are the favourites this weekend having won the past four editions of the Austrian GP. However, Red Bull were on the podium last season, a race won by Bottas with Vettel second, with Ricciardo setting the second fastest race lap time. As such the Bulls are hopeful for this weekend but not exactly confident given the numerous long straights at this very simple but very fast track.
10:43 Sebastian Vettel, who crashed into Valtteri Bottas at the start of the French race, has fallen to second in the standings, 14 points behind Hamilton, while Daniel Ricciardo is up to third ahead of Bottas, Kimi Raikkonen and Max Verstappen. Nico Hulkenberg, Fernando Alonso, Carlos Sainz and Kevin Magnussen complete the top ten in the standings while Romain Grosjean and Sergey Sirotkin are the only two drivers who have not scored a single point.
10:36 This weekend's grand prix is round two of Formula 1's first-ever triple header, with round 1 in France going to Lewis Hamilton. Racing Mercedes' new engine, he dominated the grand prix and is hoping for more of the same this weekend as he races the upgraded W09 which features new sidepods, bargeboard and rear wing.
10:30 Welcome to the Red Bull Ring, home of, well, Red Bull; the Austrian Grand Prix and the ever-sexy lederhosen! All times are local.
