14 Jul 15:34 Pit drama!!!
14 Jul 15:30 Leclerc still in third!
14 Jul 15:29 Oh gosh Vettel and Max battling for 4th!
14 Jul 15:28 Bottas just clocked a fastest lap.
FINISH Well, a thoroughly eventful and entertaining British Grand Prix that ended in a more predictable fashion, with Mercedes easing to a 1-2 victory. With that, Hamilton is beginning to look unattainable, as are his team. I'm off to watch the tennis now, and I'll see you in two weeks for the German Grand Prix. Thanks!
FINISH The remaining order: NOR, ALB, STR, RUS, KUB, VET, PER. Retirements: GIO, GRO, MAG.
FINISH Sainz held off Ricciardo for P6, while Raikkonen finished P8 ahead of Kvyat and Hulkenberg, who got back into the points on the last lap.
FINISH An excellent day for Pierre Gasly finishes the line in P4, while it's a case of what could have been for Max Verstappen, who ends up P5.
FINISH Bottas finishes some way behind the Brit, and Leclerc takes P3.
FINISH Hamilton wins the British Grand Prix! And sets the fastest lap of the race in the process. Not bad...
Lap 50 Bottas will get the extra point for fastest lap.
Lap 49 Ricciardo is trying to get past Sainz for P6. An excellent day for both drivers.
Lap 47 Verstappen is catching Gasly for P4. How his car isn't more damaged from the crash I don't know.
Lap 46 Bottas comes in and comes out P2.
Lap 45 Hamilton is told to pit but doesn't really fancy it until his team-mate does so first.
Lap 45 In the fight for the last point, Hulkenberg has gone wide and dropped to P11.
Lap 43 Vettel has been given a ten-second time penalty for causing a collsion. Expect a grumpy German in post-race interviews.
Lap 42 All of this means that Bottas could get P2. He has a 19 second gap to P3.
Lap 40 Vettel comes out last. He'll probably have a penalty too...
Lap 39 Verstappen has recovered to an extent, while Vettel has more serious damage and will have to pit.
Lap 38 Vettel takes out Verstappen! The Dutchman passed Vettel perfectly who then rear-ended the Red Bull.
Lap 37 Hamilton has a two second lead over Bottas, who still has to pit and looks destined to finish P6.
Lap 37 Leclerc makes an unbelievable pass on Gasly! The Ferrari man went around Gasly on the outside.
Lap 35 It's been a monumental fight between Red Bull and Ferrari today. Verstappen is all over Vettel, while Leclerc is trying to get past Gasly.
Lap 32 Gasly doing a good job of holding off Leclerc, whose race seems to have been ruined by that safety car.
Lap 30 Verstappen now a second off of Vettel, who is a further six and a half seconds behind Bottas.
Lap 28 Verstappen easily cruises past Pierre Gasly to take P4.
Lap 26 Leclerc losing pace now and asks if something is broken.
Lap 25 Verstappen briefly loses out to Leclerc before quickly taking back P5.
Lap 24 They all get away well up front, but Perez loses his wing trying to get past Hulkenberg.
Lap 23 Safety Car coming in at the end of the lap.
Lap 23 Sainz has made the most of the SC to move up to P7.
Lap 22 Giovinazzi meanwhile is our third DNF, after the Haas cars both retired earlier on.
Lap 22 Leclerc pits now, a lap too late. He's behind Gasly and Verstappen now.
Lap 21 Verstappen pits for hards and goes down to P6, while Vettel does so and comes out in P3. Why Ferrari didn't pit Leclerc I don't know.
Lap 21 The safety car is out due to a Giovinazzi crash. Hamilton pits straight away and comes out ahead of Bottas. That has worked out perfectly for him.
Lap 19 Leclerc moves seriously late to defend the inside line against Verstappen. Anymore of that and he'll be under investigation.
Lap 17 Leclerc holding on for dear life against Verstappen.
Lap 17 Bottas pits for medium tyres. He'll be doing a two-stop.
Lap 15 Ricciardo has successfully pulled off the undercut on Norris to get back past the Brit.
Lap 15 Both are on the medium tyre.
Lap 14 Leclerc and Verstappen pit together, with Red Bull getting the Dutchman out ahead! But Verstappen goes wide and loses out to Leclerc almost immediately!
Lap 13 Surprisingly, the Frenchman has now pitted for hard tyres. He'll be going for the undercut on Vettel.
Lap 12 Gasly passes Vettel and holds the German off in the following DRS zone to take P5!
Lap 11 Verstappen goes for it and is cut off, giving Vettel a chance to attack, but the Dutchman holds him off.
Lap 9 Vettel in the same boat as his team-mate and is under pressure from Gasly. Both are holding up the Red Bulls, allowing Mercedes to build a lead.
Lap 9 Our first retirement of the day is Kevin Magnussen.
Lap 8 Leclerc is managing his less durable tyres and will soon be under pressure from Verstappen.
Lap 7 A great battle is brewing between the Silver Arrows, and their fighting is allowing the other four drivers to stay in touch.
Lap 5 Hamilton takes the lead! But Bottas brilliantly retakes it again seconds later! The Finn is much slower but hanging on admirably.
Lap 4 Leclerc struggling to keep up the Mercedes cars, and is under pressure from Verstappen.
Lap 2 Grosjean and Magnussen P19 and P20, with both heading into the pits. The two touched at the start.
Lap 2 Bottas under serious pressure from Hamilton already.
Lap 1 Norris has made a stunning move on Ricicardo to move up to P7!
Lap 1 And we're off! Bottas holds the lead, while Vettel moves up to P5 and is chasing Verstappen.
14:10 The formation lap is underway.
14:04 A Wimbledon final and a British Grand Prix starting simultaneously - something to absolutely shred the nerves of any man.
14:02 Ferrari start on the soft, so they should be quick and aggressive from the start.
14:00 Red Bull are having to change the rear wing on Verstappen's car! 10 minutes before lights out. That is bizarre.
13:57 We've just had the national anthem and the Red Arrows fly-over. Just over ten minutes to go.
13:55 Pirelli themselves are saying that a two-stop race is the best strategy today.
13:52 Grey clouds lurking... I don't mean to get everybody excited, but if I was a a betting man, I'd put money on seeing some rain today...
13:38 As the Red Arrows fly in the sky above, the cars are making their way to track.
13:36 As mentioned earlier, due to us Brits clearly being really really stupid, the British Grand Prix today clashes with the finals of the Cricket World Cup and Wimbledon, so if you're here and have chosen the F1, thanks very much. If you're just using this live text to keep track of the race while you watch something else... Traitor. But I'll do my best to keep you updated anyway.
13:23 The rest of the grid is: GIO, RAI, SAI, GRO, PER, MAG, KVY, STR, RUS, KUB.
13:21 Daniel Ricciardo was the best of the rest yesterday and starts in P7, with Lando Norris and Alex Albon separating himself and his team-mate, Nico Hulkenberg.
13:17 Starting behind them today are Verstappen and Gasly, the latter who put in his best qualifying of the season to start ahead of Sebastian Vettel.
13:10 Yesterday's qualifying was the closest we've seen in a long time, with less than a second separating the top three. Bottas just about took pole position, marginally ahead of Hamilton and Leclerc.
13:02 Just over an hour until it's lights out for the British Grand Prix!
09:00 Good morning, afternoon or evening wherever you are in the world. Today may be the CWC final, it may even be the Wimbledon men's final, but more to the point it is British Grand Prix day and we're at Silverstone to bring you all the action. All times are local.
15:07 So, less than a second between the top three. Pair that with Verstappen in P4, Vettel having to fight past the Red Bulls and potential rain on the horizon, and tomorrow could be a good one. Our coverage will start at 13:00 local time. See you there.
15:05 The full grid for tomorrow is: BOT, HAM, LEC, VER, GAS, VET, RIC, NOR, ALB, HUL, GIO, RAI, SAI, GRO, PER, MAG, KVY, STR, RUS, KUB.
15:03 Vettel couldn't compete with the top three, ending up behind Verstappen and Gasly. A poor day for the German.
15:00 Hamilton goes 0.006 slower than Bottas, before Leclerc goes just 0.079 slower, meaning the Finn takes pole position!
14:58 In the midfield fight, Norris is currently splitting Ricciardo and Hulkenberg, with Albon in P10.
14:56 Leclerc admits he made a mistake on his lap. Maybe they do have good pace then...
14:54 A 1:25.483 for Verstappen, quicker than Leclerc, Gasly and Vettel. What has happened to Ferrari?
14:52 A poor first lap for Hamilton who goes wide and does a 1:25.345, nearly three tenths slower than Bottas.
14:50 We're off for Q3.
14:43 The drivers out of qualifying are: GIO, RAI, SAI, GRO, PER.
14:43 Leclerc and Vettel both went quicker and will therefore start on the soft tyre, as will the rest of the front-runners asides from Hamilton.
14:42 Sainz is out of qualifying, with Albon putting it an excellent lap to take his spot in Q3.
14:40 Every driver is on track, with only Hamilton not on the soft tyre.
14:35 Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull, McLaren and Renault are currently set to be the sole teams in Q3. Five minutes left.
14:32 The German only goes P8. He could certainly beat that time on medium tyres, so perhaps they're not.
14:31 Vettel is going out on the soft tyre, meaning that Ferrari are splitting their strategy for the race.
14:30 Leclerc goes P1 with a 1:25.646, ahead of the Mercedes boys. All are on the medium tyre.
14:26 Cars all flying out for Q2 as the grey clouds loom over the horizon, bringing the threat of rain with them.
14:21 That's the session over, with MAG, KVY, STR, RUS and KUB out.
14:20 Perez makes it out though and demotes Magnussen to P16. The Dane is out.
14:19 Stroll out in Q3 yet again.
14:16 Giovinazzi goes to P10, pushing Kvyat into the drop zone. Two minutes to go.
14:15 Grosjean moves up to P11.
14:13 Leclerc is just 0.020s off Hamilton, on a tyre that's supposedly half a second slower.
14:12 Verstappen moves above Bottas to take P3.
14:12 The drop zone consists of Williams, Racing Point and Grosjean.
14:11 The Mercedes cars do their first laps. Hamilton goes P1 with a 1:25.513, while Bottas goes P3, two tenths slower.
14:09 Times coming down now, as Leclerc goes top with a 1:25.628. That's a new lap record, already.
14:06 Ferrari heading out on the medium tyres, Red Bull on the softs.
14:05 Grosjean is the early pace-setter, doing a 1:26.753.
14:01 And we're off in Q1, with Lando Norris leading the way.
13:55 Gasly has been quicker than Verstappen all weekend so far, can he keep it up when it matters to give himself a much needed boost?
13:50 Ten minutes until qualifying gets underway.
13:40 It's supposed to stay dry for this session, but I said that about FP3 and we had rain after five minutes, so who knows...
13:35 FP3 saw Charles Leclerc finish top, just ahead of Vettel and Hamilton, with the latter's team-mate finishing in P6 behind the Red Bulls after coming close with the barriers.
13:30 Hello and welcome to qualifying for the British Grand Prix! All times are local.
12:04 There was pretty much nothing to choose between the top teams there. If qualifying is as close, we'll be in for a treat. It gets underway in two hours, see you there.
12:03 That's that for FP3 - the top ten: LEC, VET, HAM, GAS, VER, BOT, NOR, HUL, RIC, ALB.
12:02 Pierre Gasly goes P4, ahead of Verstappen and Bottas. Good stuff from the Frenchman.
11:59 Hamilton says the car doesn't have much more to give, and we know full well that Lewis NEVER underplays his car's performance. Oh, wait...
11:57 If this session is anything to by, qualifying will be Mercedes vs Ferrari, Red Bull on their own and Renault vs McLaren in the top ten.
11:55 Vettel goes P2, 0.026 slower than Leclerc, while Hulkenberg has moved up to P8 just behind Ricciardo.
11:52 I've jinxed it again. Leclerc now goes P1 with a 1:25.905.
11:51 10 minutes to go of FP3. Mercedes hold P1 and P2, Red Bull P3 and P4 and Ferrari P5 and P6. It's like Noah's Arc.
11:45 As I say that, Verstappen goes P3 with a 1:26.654. Oops.
11:44 Much like yesterday, Norris is again sat between the Red Bulls as Verstappen continues to struggle this weekend.
11:42 Times are coming down now, as the Mercedes and Ferrari cars go into the 1:26s
11:37 Leclerc quickly displaces the Finn at the top, doing a 1:27.446
11:35 Bottas goes top with a 1:27.524.
11:33 28 minutes to go, and just three times have been set, but it looks like cars will be coming out to do some quick(ish) laps now.
11:32 This has undoubtedly been the least eventful session of the season so far. Damn you, British weather.
11:25 Hamilton has immediately come back into the pits to go onto dry tyres.
11:22 Cars finally going out on track now. Well, two of them at least, and it's the Brits, Hamilton and Russell.
11:17 We have some light rain out on track, so don't expect to see cars flying around anytime soon.
11:06 The first times of the day are set by George Russell. and he does a 1:31.810. Take a picture, Williams! You're P1!
11:02 FP3 is underway, with Nico Hulkenberg the first car out on the hard tyre.
10:51 It is however pretty windy again, which could catch some drivers out, especially with the new and more punishing track layout.
10:47 There is rain scheduled at Silverstone today, but supposedly not until this evening, so theoretically both sessions will be dry. Theoretically.
10:43 The main talking point was the tyres, and specifically the high levels of degradation. Many drivers commented on their front lefts being destroyed - if that continues today, we could be in for some two-stop races tomorrow...
10:37 Yesterday ended with the Mercedes topping the timing screen. Bottas was P1, marginally ahead of Hamilton, with both comfortably clear of the Ferraris.
10:30 Half an hour until we have green lights for FP3 of the British Grand Prix.
8:00 Welcome back to the Silverstone circuit for Saturday's third and final practice for the British Grand Prix. All times are local. FP3 gets underway at 11am.
15:40 Well, that's the end of running for today, with Mercedes ending it on top. Qualifying is tomorrow, and before it is FP3, which starts at 11:00 local time. See you there.
15:37 The top ten at the end the session were: BOT, HAM, LEC, VET, GAS, NOR, VER, SAI, ALB, PER.
15:32 The chequered flag is out.
15:25 Many drivers have complained about tyre wear today. Could we see a two-stop race on Sunday?
15:15 We have a VSC courtesy of Daniel Ricciardo who has stopped at the side of the road.
15:07 A big talking point from today is the huge amounts of tyre degradation. It will presumably be less extreme by the time of the race, but tyres really aren't lasting at the moment.
15:01 If you'd like to know just how much a car develops during the season, take a look at the Haas times. Magnussen, in the up-to-date car, is almost a second quicker than Grosjean who is driving the Australia-spec.
14:52 George Russell is arguing with an FIA official outside his garage - he's clearly in trouble for something...
14:45 Five of the top six are now on the soft tyre, with Verstappen still on mediums.
14:45 It's getting nice and windy on track now as a number of cars are going off onto run-off areas.
14:42 Hamilton has gone just 0.020s slower than Bottas, and Leclerc 0.148s slower. That will be a relief for Ferrari.
14:32 19 of the 20 drivers are running the medium tyre at the moment.
14:28 Bottas has just put in a storming lap, doing a 1:26.781, the fastest time of the day by far.
14:26 Leclerc is back in the garage due to some kind of issue with his front left tyre.
14:24 If today is anything to go by, Red Bull will be the team taking the fight to Mercedes this weekend. Still a long way to go, though.
14:23 Haas are looking at a hydraulic leak on Grosjean's car. things just get better and better for the American team...
14:20 The big teams now going out, with Bottas top, just half a second clear of Verstappen and Leclerc.
14:13 Yet another driver has gone off at the end of the Wellington straight - this time it's Alex Albon.
14:10 Magnussen tops the timings screen with a 1:29.595.
14:02 FP2 is underway, with Kimi Raikkonen the first man out.
13:51 It should stay dry for the entire session. Should. You never know at Silverstone...
13:43 The Frenchman topped what was an eventful session, with Grosjean crashing in the pit-lane, Raikkonen breaking down on track and various drivers spinning.
13:40 FP1 saw a shock at the top, as Pierre Gasly finished the session with the quickest time.
13:30 Hello and welcome to FP2 of the British Grand Prix! All times are local.
11:35 FP2 will get underway at 14:00 local time, join us there.
11:35 The top ten at the end of the session are: GAS, BOT, VER, HAM, LEC, VET, HUL, RIC, ALB, SAI.
11:32 Chequered flags are waving.
11:31 He's now gone P1 with a 1:27.173, and will end the session on top. I highly doubt that's reflective of actual pace, but it's a nice confidence boost for the Frenchman.
11:28 Gasly has now gone P2, 0.086s off of Bottas. He seriously needs that kind of form tomorrow.
11:25 Out of nowhere, Verstappen has gone P2, 0.380s down on Bottas.
11:22 McLaren have now yet another good day, with both cars behind only the top three teams. Sainz is P7, fractionally ahead of Norris.
11:15 Cars now back out on dry tyres again, and judging by lap times, the track is dry as a bone.
11:11 Bottas currently the only man out on track doing some installation laps on the intermediate tyres.
11:05 Cars are now heading to the pits thanks to the rain.
11:04 Ferrari now up to P3 and P4, some way off the top two though.
11:02 Verstappen the latest to go wide as rain starts to wet the track.
10:58 These lower temperatures undoubtedly suit the Silver Arrows, although the Ferraris are now starting to put in faster times.
10:57 Sainz warned that light rain is on the radar. How very British.
10:50 Aaand he's spun. Nice to see the team's plan of reverting back to the Australia-spec car is going so well.
10:49 We're off up and running again, as is Romain Grosjean! Tell you what, that's a lovely livery on the Haas, anyone know the name of their sponsor? Can't find it in the news much...
10:44 A puff of smoke came out the back of his car just before he stopped, so you'd imagine it's an engine issue.
10:41 We have a red flag! Raikkonen stops on track at Nuffield and can't get the car going again. He's now out of the car and helping the marshalls move it off track.
10:39 Bottas quickly takes top spot off his team-mate with a 1:27.832.
10:37 Hamilton goes fastest with a 1.28.122 after complaining about a lack of DRS on the main straight. Just to be clear, there is no DRS zone there this year.
10:34 We have a few yellow flags courtesy of Norris and Russell, but both escape their respective spins without damage.
10:31 The tracks cleared and things are back to normal again - Hamilton is moaning and everything.
10:28 *insert Marcus Ericsson joke here*
10:23 it's a real rookie error from the Frenchman, who has no one but himself to blame.
10:21 And we have a crash! It is the Haas of Grosjean and the VSC is out to allow marshals to clear the debris from his front wing.
10:19 Russell makes his mark with a 1:34.7 but Williams 1-2 is short lived as Norris goes quickest.
10:18 Finally have times come through as the Williams pairing of Kubica and Russell take to the circuit. It is a 1:34 for Kubica.
10:08 Daniil Kvyat pits and silences falls over the Silverstone circuit.
10:05 Still waiting for Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, two British drivers, to head out. Lando Norris has already done his first lap in a F1 car in front of his home fans.
10:03 Verstappen heads out with Pierre Gasly ready to go. He needs a good weekend after Austria where he was lapped by Verstappen with Helmut Marko saying the excuses are over. Red Bull checked his chassis, found no issues, and from now on will put Gasly on Verstappen's set-up.
10:01 One by one the drivers head out for their installation laps with Carlos Sainz leading out the field.
10:00 The green light goes on, FP1 is underway.
09:50 Max Verstappen thrilled us all with his drive in Austria, we can't wait to see what he has this time around.
09:40 Mercedes are hoping the cooler temperatures will aid them here.
07:00 Welcome to the Silverstone circuit, home of the British Grand Prix, the reigning F1 World Champion and two rather excited rookie drivers. All times are local and Friday's action kicks off with FP1 at 10am.
