FINISH That is all from a fantastic Russian Grand Prix, with Mercedes counting their dominance on the Black Sea. We will see you bright and early next weekend for the Japanese Grand Prix, which starts on Friday morning. Bye for now.
FINISH Hamilton now leads the World Championship by 50 points. Surely he has two hands on the title now? Surely..?
FINISH Pierre Gasly and Brendon Hartley were the only two men to retire. Both exited the grand prix on Lap 6 with a similar brake issue on their Toro Rosso.
FINISH Grosjean, Hulkenberg, Ericsson, Alonso, Stroll, Vandoorne, Sainz, Sirotkin the other finishers.
FINISH Charles Leclerc finishes 'best of the rest', with Kevin Magnussen, Esteban Ocon and Sergio Perez rounding out the points.
FINISH Max Verstappen finishes in P5, with Daniel Ricciardo in P6. Don't forget, the pair started in P19 and P18 respectively.
FINISH Hamilton wins from Bottas, Vettel and Raikkonen.
Lap 52 "Positions will stay as they are, Valtteri," says the Finn's engineer. ONE LAP TO GO
Lap 50 While Vettel was getting caught behind Magnussen, Bottas put in a 1:35.8 to set another new race lap record.
Lap 50 Kevin Magnussen gets in Sebastian Vettel's way. The third person (at least) to get annoyed with the Dane this afternoon...
Lap 50 Hamilton breaks the race lap record again. He puts in a 1:36.1 around the Sochi circuit to extend his lead once more.
Lap 49 There are no real battles out on track right now. At least a gap of 1.5s between two drivers up and down the field.
Lap 48 Hamilton leads Bottas by 2s, with Vettel a further 2s behind him.
Lap 47 The gap between Raikkonen and Verstappen is extending. Max cannot get those (US) tyres working and P5 looks like it will be his today.
Lap 46 Lewis Hamilton sets a new race lap record around the Sochi Autodrom. He now leads Bottas by 2.3s.
Lap 45 Further down the field.. Magnussen, Ocon and Perez are still line astern. The Dane holds P8, with the two Force Indias rounding out the points positions.
Lap 45 As it stands, Hamilton will take a 50 point lead east to Japan next weekend.
Lap 44 Verstappen comes out 14s behind P4 man Kimi Raikkonen, and 21s off the podium places.. Could he do it on his birthday?
Lap 43 Verstappen pits! This could be the race right here.. The (US) tyres go on to allow him to fully attack!
Lap 42 Hamilton has a shocker of a middle sector having attacked Verstappen down at Turn 2. He is now 2s behind the Dutchman.
Lap 41 "The Red Bull is leader? How the heck did that happen?" asks Nico Hulkenberg, as Verstappen comes up to lap him.
Lap 40 Hamilton is now within 1.5s of Verstappen again, as they come through lapped traffic. Verstappen still yet to pit.
Lap 39 Vettel puts in a 1:37.1, a new fastest lap. However, he is still over 2s behind Bottas. Ricciardo comes into the pits from P6. He will also come out in P6, even with a front wing change.
Lap 39 Red Bull seem to be getting ready for a pit stop in the garage...
Lap 38 A mention for Charles Leclerc, who we have not really spoke about this afternoon. The Sauber man still sits in P7 as the 'best of the rest', and has a 13s gap to Kevin Magnussen.
Lap 37 The switch takes place at Force India. Sergio Perez allows Esteban Ocon back through into P9.
Lap 36 Verstappen is quicker than all three behind him. His (S) tyres are still in the optimal mode. Will he move to the (HS) tyres for the final laps?
Lap 35 Hulkenberg pits, Perez has "one more lap to try" to overtake Magnussen.
Lap 34 So, Force India will switch Perez and Ocon back round once Nico Hulkenberg pits.. Will Perez do it, though?
Lap 32 Vettel with a new fastest lap. The German is now just 1.4s behind Bottas.
Lap 31 Fernando Alonso becomes the fourth man to be lapped.. After Lance Stroll, Stoffel Vandoorne and Sergey Sirotkin.. A bad day for Williams and McLaren yet again.
Lap 30 A reminder that Max Verstappen leads.. Why this matters? - He turned 21 today - He started this race in P19..
Lap 29 Currently every driver is on the (S) tyres
Lap 28 There are still several drivers yet to pit.. Those who started on the (S) tyres.
Lap 27 Verstappen is still yet to pit. He leads from Hamilton, Bottas, Vettel, Raikkonen and Ricciardo, who is also yet to pit.
Lap 26 Perez is allowed past Ocon to have a go at Magnussen.
Lap 25 Bottas lets Hamilton through into Turn 12.. Racecraft from Mercedes?
Lap 24 Kevin Magnussen has angered someone else. Carlos Sainz is looking for the Dane to get a penalty after he pushed the Renault off the track.
Lap 23 Bottas is within 1.5s of Verstappen now, with Hamilton less than a second behind his team-mate.
Lap 22 No further action for Sebastian Vettel on that incident with Lewis Hamilton.
Lap 21 The battle still rages on, while Verstappen still leads.
Lap 20 That Magnussen, Ocon, Perez battle is back on. They sit P9, P10 and P11, with the Haas holding up the two Force Indias.
Lap 19 Perez wants to overtake Ocon... He is on the radio with his pit crew.
Lap 18 Raikkonen pits from the leads, meaning Max Verstappen leads the Russian Grand Prix on his birthday!
Lap 18 Vettel is now under investigation for moving more than once to defend position in the Turn 2 incident with Lewis Hamilton.
Lap 17 So... Raikkonen leads from Verstappen but neither have pitted. Of those that have been through the pits, Bottas leads from Hamilton and Vettel. That is the top five so far.
Lap 16 The Brit had looked down the inside into Turn 2, but Vettel came across to block the move. However, he had the momentum around the fast Turn 3 to take the position.
Lap 15 Bottas, Vettel and Hamilton are now within 1.5s. They sit P3, P4 and P5, with Kimi Raikkonen currently leading and Max Verstappen in P2.
Lap 15 Side-by-side down to Turn 2 and VETTEL HAS THE POSITION!!
Lap 14 Now Hamilton pits..
Lap 13 Sebastian Vettel pits, attempting the undercut on Lewis Hamilton. The gap was 2.3s before the pit stop.
Lap 13 The Finn drops behind Max Verstappen, and comes out in P5.
Lap 10 Charles Leclerc, the leader of the (HS) runners, comes into the pit lane. He drops down to P11.
Lap 10 Referring to Magnussen defending from Ocon... Ocon: "He moved last minute, that was dangerous" Otmar Szafnaeur, Force India team principal: "true to form" Force India don't like Kevin then?
Lap 9 Kevin Magnussen pits, the second Haas to come in. The Dane drops down to P13.
Lap 9 Esteban Ocon and Kevin Magnussen are embroiled in a great battle for P7. Meanwhile, Daniel Ricciardo moves into the points scoring positions.
Lap 8 Romain Grosjean is the first of the (HS) men to pit. He had dropped down to P13 from his P8 grid slot.
Lap 8 Stoffel Vandoorne gets past both Williams and moves up to P15, with Lance Stroll then pitting to ditch the (US) and put the (S) on, following Fernando Alonso.
Lap 8 Leclerc is dispatched, and drops down to P6. MAX VERSTAPPEN IS IN P5!
Lap 7 Bottas puts in a new fastest lap to increase his lead at the front to 1.4s. Meanwhile, Verstappen now only has Charles Leclerc in front of him, and then the Dutchman will be in P5.
Lap 6 Fernando Alonso pits to get rid of the (US) and puts on the (S) tyres. The Spaniard now sits in P18, last of the runners.
Lap 6 Double retirement for Toro Rosso. Both Hartley and Gasly have come in to the pits to end their races.
Lap 5 Make that P7 for the Dutchman.. What a start, what a birthday!
Lap 5 Verstappen now in P8, past Sergio Perez.
Lap 4 Brendon Hartley spins at Turn 2, Pierre Gasly spins at Turn 4. A dismal day for the Toro Rosso boys already...
Lap 3 Three laps gone, Bottas leads Hamilton, Vettel and Raikkonen.
Lap 3 The Dutchman is already into the points!
Lap 2 Verstappen gets past both Renaults on the second lap to reach P11.
Lap 2 CHARLES LECLERC IS INTO P5!! Round the outside of Magnussen in the fast Turn 3!
START Max Verstappen is already up to P13! What a start on his birthday!
START Bottas, Hamilton, Vettel, Raikkonen the top four!
13:13 The cars are lining up on the grid... Here we go...
13:11 So the front four are on the (US) tyres, P5-P10 on the (HS), the ten Renaults on the (S), the Williams and McLarens on the (US), Gasly and the two Red Bulls on the (S) and Brendon Hartley is on the (HS) starting from last place.
13:08 Brendon Hartley has been moved to the back of the grid after changing his power unit for a second time this weekend. So the back four on the grid is now: P17 Gasly, P18 Ricciardo, P19 Verstappen & P20 Hartley
13:05 A reminder of the grid: Bottas, Hamilton, Vettel, Raikkonen, Magnussen, Ocon, Leclerc, Perez, Grosjean, Ericsson, Sainz, Hulkenberg, Sirotkin, Stroll, Vandoorne, Alonso, Gasly, Hartley, Ricciardo, Verstappen.
12:56 So who wins in Russia this year? Will Mercedes continue their dominance, and if so, will Bottas be allowed to beat Hamilton? Or can Vettel repeat Bottas' triumph from P3 last year?
12:53 Last year, Valtteri Bottas took his maiden victory in Formula 1 around the Sochi Olympic Park. He starts from P3 and led by Turn 2!
12:50 The inaugural race in 2014 saw Lewis Hamilton take victory in Sochi. In both 2015 and 2016, Nico Rosberg was the man to win on the coast of the Black Sea.
12:47 What about the Russian Grand Prix's history then..? It has been a Mercedes dominated race over the years.
12:43 The 'B' Championship is currently being led by Nico Hulkenberg with 53 points. He has a three point lead over Fernando Alonso, with Kevin Magnussen another point back.
12:39 Max Verstappen sits in P5 in standings. He is 23 points adrift of Bottas, but is also 22 points clear of Red Bull team-mate Daniel Ricciardo.
12:36 There is a battle of the Finns for P3 in the standings. Kimi Raikkonen has a three point lead over Valtteri Bottas, but the pair are over 100 points behind Hamilton.
12:33 Lewis Hamilton leads the way in the Drivers' standings, with 281 points. The Brit has a 40 point gap to Sebastian Vettel, as the pair looks for that fifth world title.
12:30 So that is the grid for today's Russian Grand Prix, but what about the Championship standings?
12:26 On the last row are the two Red Bulls. Daniel Ricciardo starts P19 with engine penalties sending him to the back. Max Verstappen starts the Russian Grand Prix from last, on his birthday, after engine, gearbox, and yellow flag penalties.
12:23 The pair of Toro Rossos will line up on the penultimate row in Sochi, with Pierre Gasly in P17, ahead of Brendon Hartley. The Kiwi will start the race from P18.
12:20 The McLarens are the first of the teams to have received penalties this weekend. Stoffel Vandoorne will start P15 after a gearbox penalty early this morning, with Fernando Alonso starting P16 after an engine change.
12:17 After that come the two Williams. Sergey Sirotkin lines up in P13 for his home grand prix, with Lance Stroll just behind him in P14.
12:15 The bottom half of the grid goes two by two when it comes to the other five teams. It starts with Renault, who decided not to go out in Q2 yesterday to avoid the hypersoft tyres for the race. Carlos Sainz starts P11, with Nico Hulkenberg in P12.
12:12 There are two Ferrari powered cars on the fifth row. The Haas of Romain Grosjean starts in P9, with Marcus Ericsson's Sauber rounding out the top ten.
12:09 Charles Leclerc got his Sauber onto the fourth row, and the Monegasque will start in P7. Also on Row 4 will be Sergio Perez, the second Force India.
12:06 Row 3 has a different look to it, with the two Red Bulls having engine penalties. Kevin Magnussen starts from P5 as the 'best of the rest'. He has Esteban Ocon alongside him on the third row.
12:04 Behind the two Mercedes come the two Ferraris. Sebastian Vettel lines up in P3, with Kimi Raikkonen alongside his team-mate.
12:02 Neither of the big two will start on pole position, though.. Valtteri Bottas will line up at the front of the grid, with Lewis Hamilton alongside him on the front row.
12:00 Hello and welcome to our coverage of the Russian Grand Prix. This one will be crucial for the run to that elusive fifth World Championship for Hamilton and Vettel! The race starts in an hour and ten minutes and we will have it all here for you!
14:59 Bottas - 33.3 (one tenth quicker) Hamilton - 33.1 (three tenths quicker)
14:58 Once again, it is Bottas who leads them away...
14:56 Out they come again.. Will Hamilton get ahead of Bottas to take pole position?
14:53 Vettel and Raikkonen slot into P3 and P4, with Esteban Ocon leading the 'best of the rest' from Charles Leclerc by just 0.006s.
14:52 Bottas puts in a 1:31.528 Hamilton responds with a 1:31.532 Just 0.004s between the two Mercedes.
14:52 Bottas at 1:04.7 through sector 2; Hamilton also at 1:04.7 Neck and neck going into the final sector.
14:51 Bottas 33.4 for the first sector; Hamilton 33.2
14:50 Valtteri Bottas will lead them away on the first runs...
14:50 Marcus Ericsson is the only man not to go out for a first run in the final part of qualifying.
14:48 Q3 IS UNDERWAY! Who will take pole position?
14:43 Marcus Ericsson reaches Q3 for the first time since Monza... 2015!! And he just got dropped from Sauber's line-up for next year..
14:40 The five men out after Q2: Verstappen, Ricciardo, Gasly, Sainz, Hulkenberg. HAM BOT VET RAI LEC GRO OCO MAG PER ERI the ten drivers through to the shootout for pole position.
14:38 Neither of the Renault drivers will not go out in this session, which will see them start in P11 and P12. That could be the perfect idea for them to succeed in tomorrow's race as they get a free choice of tyres.
14:35 FIVE MINUTES TO GO IN Q2: HAM BOT VET RAI LEC GRO OCO MAG PER ERI The bottom five of VER RIC GAS SAI HUL have not set times yet.
14:32 Charles Leclerc is the only other man within a second of Hamilton. Ocon, Perez and Ericsson have also put laps in during Q2.
14:30 The two Ferraris are both four tenths behind Hamilton. It looks like it could be odds on for Mercedes to grab a front-row lockout.
14:29 Bottas starts the session with a 1:32.7. Hamilton responds by going 0.15s quicker.
14:25 The two Mercedes are the first men straight out on track in the second part of qualifying. Ferrari follow them out, with all four on the (US) as they look to get through to Q3 on the optimum race tyre.
14:24 So, will we see the two Red Bulls in this second part of qualifying? The same goes for Pierre Gasly.. I would expect not.
11:45 Friday started off well for Ferrari with Sebastian Vettel topping FP1, but FP2 turned into quite the struggle. Neither Vettel nor Raikkonen could get into any sort of rhythm with Mercedes quicker on both qualifying and race sims, and better at looking after their tyres, too.
11:35 The breaking news this morning is...The Torpedo is back! Daniil Kvyat has been confirmed as one half of Toro Rosso's 2019 line-up. He deserves another crack at this F1 lark. Good on him.
11:30 Hello and welcome back to Sochi ahead of the Russian Grand Prix. Next on the agenda is FP3, which begins in 30 minutes.
14:57 We are very unlikely to see any times dropping for the rest of the session now, as the teams work on some race strategy in preparation for Sunday afternoon.
14:51 The qualifying runs see the Mercedes ruling the roost around Sochi once again. Hamilton leads Bottas, ahead of the Red Bull pair of Verstappen and Ricciardo. The two Ferraris could only manage P5 and P6, with Vettel ahead of Raikkonen.
14:49 Sergio Perez is the only man to not have a time on the (HS) tyres at the moment.
14:45 Hamilton goes faster, with a 1:33.3.
14:43 We always talk about the top six, but the bottom six is currently filled by three teams. The two Force Indias, two Williams and two McLarens are the bottom six at the moment.
14:42 Kimi Raikkonen is down in P8, with Marcus Ericsson and Kevin Magnussen ahead of the Finn.
14:40 The top five are currently separated by 0.380s. Hamilton, Bottas, Verstappen, Ricciardo, Vettel the top five at the moment.
14:38 Hamilton scrapes into P1, beating his team-mates time by 0.036s.
14:36 Bottas has gone quickest as we start the qualifying runs. The Finn, who won the 2017 Russian Grand Prix, has put in a 1:33.5.
14:32 Verstappen goes quicker, with a 1:34.0.
14:29 At the other end of the grid, Sergey Sirotkin currently sits last, with Fernando Alonso just ahead of him in P19.
14:25 Pierre Gasly is currently in the 'best of the rest' slot, sitting 1.5s behind Verstappen.
14:22 Hamilton has gone into P2, less than a tenth behind Verstappen, while Ricciardo is now ahead of the two Ferraris.
14:17 Verstappen goes even quicker. A 1:34.1 puts him eight tenths ahead of Vettel. Bottas then moves into P2, four tenths behind the Dutchman.
14:16 Hamilton and Ricciardo fit into P3 and P4, but neither can get within seven tenths of Verstappen's time.
14:13 The German recovers to duck under the 1:35 barrier. But then Max Verstappen puts in a 1:34.4 to go P1.`
14:10 Vettel locks up at the first corner and has to take to the escape route...
14:07 Vettel puts in a 1:35.382 to go fastest of the eight times so far.
14:04 Vandoorne puts in a 1:37.8 to get us going in FP2.
14:01 The two McLarens are the first two cars out on track, with Fernando Alonso leading Stoffel Vandoorne out of the pits.
13:59 Just a few moments now until the start of FP2.
13:56 Three tyres as always. We have the yellow-striped softs (S), the purple-striped ultrasofts (US), and the pink-striped hypersofts (HS). These are the same tyres as Singapore.
13:48 So, Ferrari took control in FP1, but can they do the same this afternoon? Sochi has been a Mercedes circuit since its inception to the calendar in 2014.
13:45 Sergey Sirotkin finished in P18 in the first practice session at his home grand prix, with Brendon Hartley and Williams team-mate Lance Stroll behind him.
13:43 Artem Markelov made his F1 debut in FP1 for Renault, on home soil. He finished the session in P15. The other "substitutes" in this morning were Lando Norris for Fernando Alonso at McLaren (P13), and Nicholas Latifi in for Sergio Perez at Force India (P17).
13:41 Esteban Ocon was P6, ahead of Kimi Raikkonen's Ferrari. Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg were also in the top ten, as was Antonio Giovinazzi in the Sauber for FP1, ahead of his return to that seat for 2019.
13:38 In FP1, it was Sebastian Vettel who ran out fastest, with a 1:34.488. Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, Valtteri Bottas and Daniel Ricciardo were also in the top five.
13:36 The two senior drivers of Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen will be on the penultimate row come Sunday, with Pierre Gasly and Brendon Hartley rounding out the grid for Toro Rosso.
13:34 Even at this early part of the weekend, we already know of five drivers who will start from the back with engine penalties. Fernando Alonso will start in P16, with the four Red Bull cars behind.
13:30 Hello and welcome to our coverage of the second practice session in Sochi. The green light will come on in thirty minutes.
11:50 A little bit of movement on the leaderboard as Magnussen leapfrogs Grosjean up to P6 and Norris pops the McLaren inside the top 10.
11:45 It could be session over already for Ricciardo as part of his RB14 caught fire back in the garage. This guy simply cannot catch a break, can he?
11:41 Plenty of tweaking going on back in the garages as drivers come in to change their first set of tyres. Raikkonen appears to be a little out of sync as he is 1.9 seconds down on the pace.
11:37 Verstappen, on the hypersofts, goes quickest of all through the tight and technical last sector to post a new benchmark: a 1:34.960.
11:35 Verstappen sandwiches himself between the two Mercs, as does Ricciardo. Red Bull have clearly had their Weetabix this morning.
11:31 With an hour left in the session, Mercedes have emerged as new pace-setters with Hamilton posted 1:35.326, two tenths in front of Bottas.
11:27 A close shave for Norris as he comes very close to tapping the wall at Turn 4. Meanwhile, plenty of movement back at the top with Hamilton, Verstappen and Ricciardo all trading P1 between them.
11:25 Improvement from Bottas as he narrows the gap to Ricciardo to 0.071 seconds.
11:23 Now Ricciardo pops to the top with a 1:36.600, three tenths quicker than team-mate Verstappen in P2. Hamilton and Bottas slot into P4 and P5 respectively.
11:20 The first of the big guns has got a lap on the board and it's Kimi Raikkonen with a 1:37.063.
11:15 Confirmation from the FIA that there are new engines, turbos, MGU-H and MGU-K for Verstappen, Ricciardo, Gasly, Hartley and Alonso. Also new energy stores for Verstappen and Alonso, and control electronics for them as well as Hartley. In other words: back of the grid you go.
11:13 Still plenty of install laps going on out there. We have seen every car bar the two Mercs who always play it cool in the early stages.
11:07 Vandoorne is the first driver to put a time on the board: it's a 1:40.121s.
11:02 Norris is one of four driver changes in FP1, with Giovinazzi in for Ericsson at Sauber, home favourite Markelov in for Sainz at Renault and Latifi in for Perez at Force India.
11:00 Green light! FP1 is underway. Lando Norris, getting more experience ahead of his 2019 drive with McLaren, leads the cars out on track. Fernando Alonso the man to drop out for this session.
10:55 Red Bull duo Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo are set to join them as they revert to Spec-B Renault engines. McLaren are also expected to fall back, too. Confirmation from the FIA will follow shortly.
10:50 Focusing back on the here and now...there are some grid penalties on the way for some. Both Toro Rosso drivers are set to go to the back of the grid after fitting new Honda Spec-3 engines.
10:45 There was also some more 2019 movement earlier in the week, with Antonio Giovinazzi joining Kimi Raikkonen at Sauber next season. Marcus Ericsson has been demoted to third driver.
10:40 Some breaking news from the paddock in Russia this morning...Haas have retained Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean for the 2019 season. Did they not get the memo for this being the silliest silly season of them all?
10:30 Hello and welcome to Sochi, home of the Russian Grand Prix. It's round 16 of 21 in the 2018 World Championship, and Ferrari have got some catching up to do...
