FINISH Red Bull gambled as they pitted both drivers and Ricciardo then went on the charge to take the lead. Bottas drove a stead race while Verstappen made contact with Vettel and that compromised both their races.
FINISH What a race by Ricciardo. It looked to be bore-fest, but then the Safety Car came out and it all changed.
FINISH 'Holy moly' is Ricciardo's reply to the team after his win.
FINISH Alonso was P6 while Vettel just managed to stay ahead of Sainz, who is P9, while Magnussen was the final man in the points.

Lap 49 Can Verstappen build a 10-second lead over Hamilton over the remaining laps?
Lap 48 Hamilton is told about Verstappen's penalty and he shouts back 'just let me turn man'. He has lost a place to the Red Bull driver though as Verstappen strolls past him.

Lap 46 Wow. It's Ricciardo from Bottas, Raikkonen, Hamilton, Verstappen, Hulkenberg and Vettel.
Lap 45 Ricciardo is in the lead as he squeezes past Bottas. There wasn't much space, but the Red Bull man gets the job done at the breaking zone at Turn 6.
Lack 45 This is it for the lead as Ricciardo is now right behind Bottas.
Lap 45 Looks like Verstappen was to blame for that. Raikkonen managed to get past Hamilton as the Merc man had to go wide.
Lap 44 Verstappen was looking to overtake Vettel, but there was not enough space and they made contact. They both went 360 and Hamilton and Raikkonen both went past them.
Lap 44 Vettel and Verstappen have made contact.
Lap 44 There is movement in the Mercedes garage and it might be for Hamilton

Lap 41 Ricciardo is told 'next one is Vettel'.
Lap 41 Christian Horner is pumped up on the Red Bull pit wall, but of course it means some unhappy faces in the Mercedes garage.
Lap 41 Ricciardo goes for it on the back straight from a long way back and he makes it STICK! He is told 'let's keep pushing'.
Lap 40 It's not over for Hamilton as Ricciardo is now on his rear mirror.
Lap 40 Verstappen lost places to Ricciardo and Raikkonen, but he has now made up a place to Raikkonen. We might have interesting comments from both of those again after the race.
Lap 40 Verstappen was in a hurry there as he tried to go on the outside of Hamilton, but they touched and the Red Bull man went off track.
Lap 40 Verstappen now has a look at Hamilton. They've made contact again.
Lap 39 The Red Bulls are the cars to watch for the remainder of this race. They have the fresher rubber.
Lap 38 DRS has been re-enabled, but Vettel is too far behind Bottas.
Lap 37 Here goes Ricciardo on Raikkonen and he gets the job done at the hairpin. He is up to P5.
Lap 37 Bottas has built a 1.7s lead over Vettel.
Lap 37 Ricciardo now has a look at Raikkonen, but there is no way past. He drops off at the next corner.
Lap 36 Verstappen is all over the back of Hamilton, but the Red Bull man needs to look in his mirrors as Raikkonen is not too far behind him.
Lap 36 Gasly has received a 10-second time penalty.
Lap 36 Alonso and Grosjean are wheel-to-wheel and it's the McLaren man who comes off best as he outmuscles the Haas driver.
Lap 35 Good restart from Bottas and Vettel locks up a bit at the hairpin. Behind them you have Hamilton, Verstappen, Raikkonen, Ricciardo.
Lap 34 Safety Car in this lap. Hamilton asks about the tyre situation as he wonders why the cars around him all have new tyres.
Lap 33 We haven't had any retirements yet, which is not surprising as the Chinese GP has a good history of having all cars finishing the race.
Lap 33 Raikkonen is suddenly back in this as his tyres are seven laps fresher.
Lap 32 Gasly pitted after the accident for a new front wing.
Lap 32 The Gasly-Hartley incident is under investigation. Still debris on the track so the Safety Car could be out for another couple of laps.
Lap 32 Bottas and Vettel were ahead of the pack when the Safety Car was deployed, but it was a surprise to see Hamilton and Raikkonen staying out.
Lap 32 The Safety Car has been deployed and both Red Bull drivers have made use of it as Verstappen and Ricciardo are pitting.
Lap 31 The gap between Bottas and Ferrari remain under one second. Still a lot of debris at the hairpin after the Gasly-Hartley incident.
Lap 30 The two Toro Rossos did indeed make contact with Gasly driving into his team-mate. The door was slightly ajar, but there was not enough space for an overtake.
Lap 30 There is a Toro Rosso off the track. The second STR was very close so did they make contact?
Lap 29 This is the first time that Bottas is leading in China. He's looking good for the win here today.
Lap 28 Hamilton is now 2.1s adrift of Verstappen, who is 5.4s off Vettel in second place.
Lap 28 The Ferrari mechanics are finally out for Raikkonen and he rejoins in P6. He did his job in terms of holding up Bottas slightly, but he is now way behind the leaders.
Lap 27 Bottas is not in the clear yet as Vettel is still within DRS range.
Lap 27 How will Raikkonen react. Bottas tries to go on the outside of Raikkonen at Turn 1 and he completes the job a couple of corners later. No surprise as Vettel sweeps past his team-mate. Bottas is still under pressure from Vettel.
Lap 26 Okay Bottas has caught up with Raikkonen, but Vettel is not too far behind.
Lap 25 Magnussen pits from P7 and Alonso moves up a place. The McLaren driver is also yet to stop.
Lap 24 Looks like Ferrari might use Raikkonen as a blocker as he could slow down Bottas.
Lap 23 Raikkonen still to stop and he has a six-second lead over Bottas, who is 1.4s ahead of Vettel.
Lap 23 Hamilton is making ground on Verstappen as he is nearly a full second faster than the Red Bull driver. The gap, though, is still just over two seconds.
Lap 22 Bottas is told 'you need to stay ahead of Vettel'. Like he was just going to move aside and say 'here you go Vettel'.
Lap 22 Hamilton on the charge now as well as he posts a 1:36.878.
Lap 21 Raikkonen leads, but he is yet to stop. Bottas is second ahead of Vettel. Bottas is told 'good job' by his race engineer.
Lap 21 Ferrari finally react and it's for Vettel. It's going to be close to Bottas! The undercut has worked as Vettel has rejoined behind the Mercedes driver.
Lap 20 It's over to you Ferrari as both their drivers are still to stop.
Lap 20 New fastest lap of 1:37.755 from Verstappen.
Lap 20 Verstappen is on the charge and 'box, box, box' is the message to Bottas. Smooth stop and he rejoins ahead of Verstappen. So it's a case of 'as you were'.
Lap 19 Ricciardo has now managed to get ahead of Magnussen.
Lap 19 Mercedes have reacted and Hamilton comes in. He was told to 'do the opposite of Raikkonen'. The Finn stayed out. Hamilton put on the medium tyres as well. He rejoined just ahead of Magnussen, who was holding off Ricciardo.
Lap 18 Replays of the Red Bull double-stacking and that was brilliantly done by the pit crew. Smooth as you like.
Lap 18 Verstappen is the first to blink of the front-runners as he pits from P3 to take on the medium tyres. Ricciardo is also in and he is on the same strategy.
Lap 18 Hamilton has told the team that 'he can't get past Raikkonen'.
Lap 17 Some relief for Alonso as Grosjean has ducked into the pits. The McLaren driver is up to P8.
Lap 17 Vettel is 3.4s ahead of Bottas while he has a 14s lead over Hamilton in fourth place. He nearly has a pit stop covered.
Lap 16 Gasly on the defence as Sainz is all over him. However, the Toro Rosso man is doing a fine job keeping the Renault behind him. Sainz gets the job done in the DRS zone.
Lap 15 Hamilton has made up a bit of time on Raikkonen and the Ferrari man's lead is now just 1.4s.
Lap 15 Alonso is still stuck behind Grosjean. Hulkenberg gets another place as he strolls past Leclerc.

Lap 14 Hulkenberg pits from P7 and he rejoins in P15.
Lap 14 Vettel has built a handy 3.2s lead over Bottas while Verstappen has dropped five seconds off the Finn. Meanwhile, Ricciardo is making some ground on Hamilton.
Lap 13 The front-runners are expected to stop around Lap 16/17 for their first pit stops. Here comes Sainz and he takes on the medium rubber.
Lap 12 Great battle between Grosjean and Alonso. The McLaren man seems to just have his nose ahead, but the Frenchman fights back at Turn 7 and keeps P10.
Lap 12 The Force India pit crew is out and in comes Ocon. He has gone for the softs.
Lap 11 Hartley is the first driver to pit and he changes to the medium tyres. He will rejoin at the back of the pack.
Lap 11 Hamilton is clearly not happy and apologises after he lost a place, but is told 'just keep your head down mate'.
Lap 10 Gasly is the only driver on the mediums and his times are not too bad when compared to the supposedly faster purple ultra softs.
Lap 9 Alonso looks to duck on the inside of Grosjean, but the Haas driver holds firm. He will have DRS at the final turn, but Grosjean also has DRS as his team-mate is just ahead of him.
Lap 9 Vettel looks to be in complete control at the front as he has a 2.5s lead while Verstappen is another 3.8s adrift in third place.
Lap 8 Magnussen has already made half a second up on Sainz so it looks like a good decision from the Haas pit wall.
Lap 7 Grosjean is clearly not happy that he was asked to give the place to his team-mate. Couple of swear words coming from the Frenchman.
Lap 7 Ocon has managed to get past Stroll and is up to P12. Magnussen is also now ahead of Grosjean, but it doesn't look like the Frenchman is going to just sit back now.
Lap 6 Raikkonen has a 1.5s edge over Hamilton, who in turn has a similar advantage over Ricciardo.
Lap 5 Vettel has opened a 2.2s lead over Bottas while Verstappen is another 2.1s adrift in third place.
Lap 5 Magnussen is within DRS range of his team-mate Grosjean, who is P9. Meanwhile, Ocon has a look at Stroll in P12.
Lap 4 Force India lost out on the opening few laps as Ocon is P13 and Perez P14.
Lap 4 All 20 cars are running and no problems reported just yet.
Lap 3 Slightly better news for Merc as Hamilton is within DRS range of Raikkonen.
Lap 3 Vettel starting to put the foot down as he is nearly a full second faster than Bottas. His lead is nearly two seconds over the Merc man.
Lap 2 Stroll has had the best start as he is up to P12 after starting in P18.
Lap 2 Verstappen is told to 'calm down now mate' after his excellent start.
Lap 2 It's Vettel from Bottas, Verstapen, Raikkonen, Hamilton, Ricciardo and Hulkenberg.
Lap 1 Hamilton tried to duck past Raikkonen, but no way through. The two Renaults involved in a scrap and they nearly make contact.
Lap 1 Bottas the big winner and Raikkonen has now dropped to fourth with Hamilton fifth. Verstappen another winner as he has sweeped past those two and he is up to P3.
Lap 1 The lights go and the Chinese GP is underway. Good start from Vettel and Raikkonen. Vettel blocks his team-mate, but then Bottas sweeps past Raikkonen and he is up to P2.
14:10 Vettel leads the pack around the Shanghai International Circuit on the formation lap. They are all away without any problems.
14:09 Hamilton reports that the rears are definitely going to struggle today so a one-stop will be difficult.
14:08 Three races in and still struggling to get used to Halo.
14:06 Today marks Bottas' 100th Grand Prix start. Will he celebrate it with a win in a couple of hours?
14:01 Toto Wolff asks about Mercedes' current state and he says 'he likes the underdog status and they just need to improve'.
13:57 The grandstand is packed.
13:55 Time for the national anthem. Couple of drivers cutting it fine as they arrived just a second or so before the start of the anthem.
13:53 As for strategy, Pirelli says a two-stopper is the best strategy with two stints on the ultra softs and then a stint on the mediums or softs. However, don't rule out the one-stoppers.
13:51 There is a 60% chance of the Safety Car being deployed at Shanghai.
13:50 It's currently a mild 19 degrees Celsius while the track temperature is 38 degrees.
13:48 For the record, this is the first time in seven years that a Merc is not in pole while they have also won the last five races in China.
13:43 Red Bull believe they have the race pace to challenge Ferrari, but Ricciardo and Verstappen first need to get past the two Mercedes drivers before they can put the heat on the Scuderia.
13:40 The pit lane is open and out fly the cars.
13:34 Who will win the midfield battle today? Renault, Force India, Haas or McLaren? Last weekend it was Toro Rosso, but they are starting much, much lower down the grid today.
13:28 It's been cool in Shanghai so far this weekend, but the sun is out today and we are in for a hot one.
13:25 There was a funny segment during the drivers parade as Verstappen was asked a question and Hulkenberg started laughing next to him. He thought the German was laughing at something he said, but Hulkenberg replied 'I laughed because your team-mate was scratching in his ***'.
13:20 Vettel was asked if he think it's straightforward win for Ferrari and he was typically diplomatic as he said 'it's not over'. Raikkonen was asked if he wants to win and he said 'that's a silly question'.
13:16 The hero of Bahrain, Pierre Gasly, starts P17 for Toro Ross while Marcus Ericsson is the final man of the grid. The Sauber driver received a five-place grid penalty for ignoring yellow flags in qualy, but he qualified P20 any way.
13:14 The second Renault of Carlos Sainz and Romain Grosjean complete the top 10 with Kevin Magnussen and Esteban Ocon next on the grid. Then you have the two McLarens.
13:11 The two Red Bulls are third on the grid, but they haven't had a great season so far as both cars retired in Bahrain while Daniel Ricciardo had a suspected turbo failure in FP3. The 'fed-up' Australian will start next to Max Verstappen with Nico Hulkenberg again in P7 and Sergio Perez finally giving Force India something to shout about as he is P8.
13:09 Hamilton lost out to Vettel by half a second in qualifying.
13:06 To the grid then where Vettel and Ferrari simply turned it up on qualifying. Raikkone was disappointed with his qualy show, but he still made it a Ferrari 1-2 on Saturday. The two Merc cars are behind them with Valtteri Bottas edging out Lewis Hamilton.
13:03 Will Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel make it three wins in a row? Or will Mercedes bounce back and secure their first win of the year? What about Red Bull? Or maybe Kimi Raikkonen will stop Vettel's run. All will be revealed in a couple of hours so stay tuned.
13:00 Greetings and welcome to our live coverage of the third race of the 2018 F1 season, the Chinese Grand Prix, which takes place at the Shanghai International Circuit.
15:02 Well done to Vettel and Ferrari on their front row lock. Bottas will start third ahead of Hamilton. And that's it for qualifying for today. Join us tomorrow for the Chinese GP. Cheers.
15:01 Verstappen and Ricciardo remain fifth and sixth behind the Mercedes with Hulkenberg seventh ahead of Perez, Sainz and Grosjean.
15:00 The chequered flag is out and Hamilton has pitted without finishing his lap. Raikkonen is flying and ups his pace to a 1:31.182 but Vettel takes pole by 0.087s.
14:59 Mercedes are not showing the pace needed to challenge for the front row in the first sectors but recover a bit of time in the second. Bottas stays third.
14:57 And now we do it all again... the drivers are leaving the pits one by one on brand new ultras ready for a second shot at pole.
14:54 Top ten: Raikkonen, Vettel, Bottas, Hamilton, Verstappen, Ricciardo, Hulkenberg, Grosjean, Sainz and the time-less Perez.
14:52 Vettel goes second with Ricciardo third but here comes Bottas and he takes third from Ricciardo. Verstappen slots into fourth but what about Hamilton... it's P4 for the Brit.
14:51 Raikkonen goes purple and purple to hit the front with a 1:31.2!
14:50 Only Perez hasn't yet left the pits and it looks as if Grosjean actually did so on the soft tyres.
14:49 Hulkenberg and Grosjean are the first two drivers out, both on the ultrasoft tyres. That will be the tyre of choice for this session. Raikkonen takes to the track.
14:48 Pit lane light goes green and the 12-minute Q3 is underway.
14:45 And then there were 10. Hamilton, Bottas, Raikkonen, Vettel, Hulkenberg, Grosjean, Ricciardo, Verstappen, Perez and Sainz will now fight for pole position.
14:42 Out are: Magnussen, Ocon, Alonso, Vandoorne and Hartley.
14:41 Alonso moves up to ninth after a tow from Vandoorne, Raikkonen stays second and Vettel third, neither improving their times on the ultras so they'll start the race on the softs. Now Bottas goes second, Perez jumps to ninth and Sainz to tenth.
14:40 The chequered flag is out...
14:39 Purples for Hamilton in the first and second sectors and it looks like Mercedes have switched up to their 'party mode'. He goes fastest with a 1:31.9. But here comes Raikkonen and he's now purple...
14:37 Raikkonen and Vettel have gone out but this time on the ultrasoft tyres. Now all the drivers barring the two Red Bulls are out on track.
14:36 In the drop zone are Sainz, Vandoorne, Hartley, Grosjean and Alonso. The latter two have yet to set times. And with that Alonso leaves the pits while Hamilton does so too but on another set of soft tyres.
14:35 Hamilton is told he's adrift to the purples by two-and-a-half tenths in the first and third sectors and a tenth in the middle. That makes up his 0.6s deficit to Raikkonen.
14:33 Hamilton improved to sixth on his last lap with a 1:32.8. To put it into perspective, Sainz in 11th is on a 1:33.4.
14:31 Ricciardo and Verstappen, running the ultras, have gone third and fourth fastest ahead of the Mercedes drivers. Ocon is seventh ahead of Perez, Vandoorne and Hartley. Now Magnussen and Hulkenberg go sixth and seventh, dropping Hamilton to eighth.
14:30 Hamilton is told to keep pushing as Mercedes have fueled him for another hot lap or two.
14:29 Vettel, Raikkonen and Bottas are trading purples with Bottas crossing the line first with a 1:32.9. Hamilton does a 1:33.2. Raikkonen a 1:32.2 and Vettel goes second behind his team-mate with a 1:32.3.
14:28 The rest of the top 15 are heading out on the ultrasoft tyres so this could be interesting. Then again Ferrari and Mercedes have a clear advantage over the chasing pack.
14:26 Ferrari follow them out and the Scuderia have also put both drivers on the soft tyres.
14:25 Green light and Q2 is underway with Hamilton and Bottas taking to the track immediately. Both are running the soft tyres.
14:23 115 drivers remain for Q2, and they'll have just 15 minutes to try to book a place in the pole position shoot-out.
14:20 Out are: Sirotkin, Gasly, Stroll, Leclerc and Ericsson.
14:19 Grosjean has leapt to fifth place, Ricciardo goes 13th, Hartley 14th, Leclerc improves his time but will drop out, Stroll also fails to make it out, Sainz moves to seventh, now here comes Gasly... He is 17th only.
14:18 The chequered flag is out.
14:17 Ricciardo starts his flying lap, he has just one lap to get this right...
14:15 Ricciardo's RB14 is fired up and out he goes. Well done to Red Bull, here's hoping all the nuts and bolts are tighter than tight. Everyone from Alonso in ninth down has gone out.
14:13 He's in the drop zone along with Hartley, Ericsson, Stroll and the time-less Ricciardo.
14:12 We have a Charles Leclerc Sauber going very slowly. Looks to be an off, well it was in fact a spin. He got it wrong at the final corner, touched the Astroturf and did a half spin. Somehow his nose stayed out of the pit wall.
14:11 Raikkonen reports rain, which is not good news for Ricciardo who has yet to take to the circuit. His team-mate Verstappen, with a small correction through the penultimate corner, goes fourth. He's ahead of Hamilton.
14:10 Ocon slides into fifth place ahead of Alonso. Both drivers are 1.4s off Vettel's pace.
14:09 Sirotkin, who was 10th in final practice, goes seventh of the 12 drivers who have set times - slotting in behind Grosjean and ahead of Gasly.
14:07 Verstappen is out on track and Ricciardo is getting strapped into his car with the front wing being attached.
14:06 Vettel is on a hot lap and goes purple in the middle sector and he's quickest overall by three-tenths over Raikkonen.
14:05 First blood to Raikkonen with a 1:32.4. That puts him 0.4s ahead of Bottas and 0.8s up on Hamilton.
14:03 The drivers are straight onto the ultrasoft tyres, well all except the Williams pairing, as they try to book a place in Q2.
14:01 Ricciardo is not ready to run and, according to reports, it is because Renault did not have a completely built engine ready to go in the car. Red Bull are, as to be expected, fuming.
14:00 Green light and the 18 minutes start now... a reminder that the slowest five drivers will drop out at the end of this session.
13:53 A lot of work going on with Romain Grosjean's car which had a brake-by-wire issue in FP3. Haas are busy changing his rear brakes. And over at Red Bull, the new power unit is just going in now so, yeah, Ricciardo may not make it out before the end of the 18-minute Q1.
13:48 It is another cold session ahead with the air temperature just 12'C and the track only up to 16'C. Expect to see a lot of drivers struggling for grip.
13:42 There was bad news for Red Bull this morning as Daniel Ricciardo suffered a suspected turbo failure. His Red Bull mechanics are still working on the car, having to put in a new engine.
13:39 However, Mercedes are going for their seventh successive Shanghai pole position today so remain the favourites for qualifying. Hamilton has won this race five times, Vettel just once.
13:35 Although Lewis Hamilton set the pace in both Friday sessions, it was Ferrari who came to the fore this morning. Sebastian Vettel was quickest ahead of Kimi Raikkonen with Valtteri Bottas and Hamilton was fifth. It is a chilly day today and it looked as if Ferrari were able to turn the tyres on a lot faster, and better, than Mercedes.
13:30 Hello, and welcome to qualifying for the Chinese Grand Prix, round three of the 2018 F1 World Championship.
12:01 Vettel tops the timesheets ahead of Raikkonen, Bottas, Verstappen, Hamilton and Magnussen. Red Bull are in a race against time to change Ricciardo's engine and what tyres will be used in Q2... those will be answered in qualifying. Join us again in two hours. Cheers.
12:00 The chequered flag is out on FP3...
11:59 Vandoorne goes 13th, a tenth shy of team-mate Alonso's best time.
11:56 Sirotkin is up to 10th.. finally an improvement from Williams? Time will tell.
11:54 Magnussen has jumped up to sixth place as Haas' good form continues while Perez and Ocon are now inside the top ten. That looks to be a better performance from the Force India team-mates.
11:51 Hot lap on the ultras coming in from Max... and he moves from ninth to fourth, separating the two Mercedes drivers. He is 0.951s down on Vettel's best.
11:49 The Ferrari tussle continues with Vettel now ahead of Raikkonen by 0.451s.
11:47 Hamilton is up to fourth with Renault next in line with Sainz and Hulkenberg.
11:46 Ricciardo's car is back in the garage with Horner saying he thinks it is a suspected turbo failure.
11:45 Bottas stays third but has closed the gap to Raikkonen to eight-tenths of a second. Hamilton stays fifth with Sainz separating the Mercedes team-mates.
11:44 Bottas and Hamilton have both left the pits on fresh ultrasoft tyres so this will be their qualy sim ahead of qualifying.
11:41 Track is clear...
11:39 The Virtual Safety Car is out as marshals push Ricciardo's car to safety and check for oil on the track.
11:37 Ricciardo is hoping a scooter back to the pits but this could be his Saturday over.
11:33 Hamilton's W09 is getting a once-over in the pits... and oh no, Ricciardo's engine just blew! "I've got a problem," he says. Yip, a really, really big one. Game over.
11:30 Hulkenberg has jumped to fifth place ahead of Ricciardo and Alonso. Verstappen on the soft tyres is down in 11th place.
11:28 Turn 10 and Hamilton again. He's had a big spin at the exit of Turn 10. Looks like he may have gotten onto a wet spot. Yip, he touched the wet Astroturf and around she went.
11:27 A spin for Romain Grosjean at Turn 10.
11:26 A queue at the end of the pit lane as Alonso lines up for a practice session with Verstappen having to wait his turn.
11:25 And we have Hamilton running wide at Turn 14 two laps in a row. But he also had troubles at Turn 2 and Turn 9.
11:22 Bottas goes third fastest on the softs, 1.5s down, while Hamilton is down in 11th place.
11:21 Issues for Vandoorne who is told to "box this lap" as they have lost the telemetry on the car.
11:20 The softs could be the favourites in Q2 as that means the drivers can then start the race on those tyres. The ultras may be quicker but they don't last very long.
11:17 Hamilton and Bottas have joined the party, both Mercedes drivers leaving the pits on the yellow-marked soft tyres.
11:16 A 1:33.689 puts Vettel at the top of the pile, 1.1s up on Raikkonen.
11:14 Vettel leaves the pits on a set of ultras to join his team-mate Raikkonen out on track. And with that Raikkonen pits.
11:12 Sainz runs it a bit wide going into the hairpin but continues without issue. Gasly is told that there's a "tail wind" at Turn 7 while his latest wide moment kicks up some water left on the Astroturf from last night's rain.
11:11 Hartley is the first to test the track limits, at least the first that we've seen so far this morning.
11:10 Six times on the board with Raikkonen leading the way with a 1:34.794.
11:07 Christian Horner has revealed it was a gearbox scare with Ricciardo's car but that it has been sorted.
11:04 No messing around for Raikkonen who is immediately into his programme and clocks a 1:45.080. He had traffic in the form of a Haas through the Turns 8 and 9 section.
11:02 Chase Carey, Maurizio Arrivabene, Toto Wolff and Niki Lauda have just been spotted walking out of a meeting - breakfast or rules? The Ferrari and Mercedes team bosses continue their chat as Ericsson, Leclerc, Grosjena and Vandoorne head out of the pits.
11:01 The session will begin without Ricciardo as there are about ten mechanics furiously working on his RB14. No word as to what is wrong.
11:00 Green light and FP3 is underway...
10:49 Still a strong wind around but instead of a tail wind, it is now a head wind. Staying on the track won't be easy.
10:48 Overnight rain means we have a green track this morning, which makes for a slippery track. Add in the cold temperatures - air temperature is just 12'C and the track is 14'c - and it could be even more so.
10:43 And the rest: 11 Sergio Perez Force India 1.310s; 12 Pierre Gasly Toro Rosso 1.367s; 13 Esteban Ocon Force India 1.392s; 14 Stoffel Vandoorne McLaren 1.681s; 15 Brendon Hartley Toro Rosso 1.851s; 16 Sergey Sirotkin Williams 1.858s; 17 Marcus Ericsson Sauber 2.142s; 18 Charles Leclerc Sauber 2.434s; 19 Romain Grosjean Haas 2.989s; 20 Lance Stroll Williams 3.665s.
10:41 Friday's top ten: 1 Lewis Hamilton Mercedes 1:33.482; 2 Kimi Raikkonen Ferrari 0.007s; 3 Valtteri Bottas Mercedes 0.033s; 4 Sebastian Vettel Ferrari 0.108s; 5 Max Verstappen Red Bull 0.341s; 6 Nico Hulkenberg Renault 0.831s; 7 Kevin Magnussen Haas 0.976s; 8 Carlos Sainz Renault 0.991s; 9 Daniel Ricciardo Red Bull 1.075s; 10 Fernando Alonso McLaren 1.150s.
10:36 Friday's running belonged to Lewis Hamilton with the five-time Chinese Grand Prix winner quickest in both sessions. However, his advantage in FP2 was greatly reduced by Kimi Raikkonen. The Ferrari driver were a mere 0.007s off the pace in a session that saw the top four separated by 0.108s.
10:30 Good morning and welcome back to the Shanghai International Circuit for the third and final practice session.
15:30 Chequered flag is out and that is it for FP2, and Friday's action. Join us on Saturday morning for final practice and qualifying. Cheers.
15:29 A few late takers with Alonso, Perez and Ocon heading out on the intermediate tyres. Hartley and Ericsson follow suit.
15:28 So that's likely it for FP2, a session that will end with Hamilton quickest ahead of Raikkonen, Bottas and Vettel. The top four separated by 0.108s.
15:26 Only Stroll is still putting in the laps.... and with that he pits.
15:25 Vandoorne and McLaren are being investigated for that unsafe release.
15:24 Verstappen, Gasly, Sirotkin and Stroll are the only drivers still out.
15:22 We have a Sauber sliding wide as the track gets wetter... and a mass movement back to the pits.
15:20 Ricciardo tells Red Bull that the track is getting a "bit greasy" but is "hanging on." He's told not to take any risks and pit if he wants.
15:19 We have a few spots coming down in sector 2 with Verstappen now reporting "drizzle."
15:16 Vettel has been doing an average of 1:38.9s on his race run.
15:14 Oh my wow! More tyre issues as Vandoorne tells McLaren he has to stop the car as the tyre is not on. It's the right rear. Another pit stop blunder!
15:13 Perez, Gasly and Ocon are the three drivers knocking on the door of the top ten.
15:09 14 laps on the ultras for Hamilton and he's onto old softs, 13 for Bottas and he's onto used mediums. Raikkonen and Vettel have made similar swaps.
15:04 Not be too precise but Vandoorne is told that McLaren are expecting rain is "11 minutes."
15:03 After six laps on the ultras, Raikkonen has swapped to the soft tyres where he's onto lap 9.
15:02 Sainz, though, is having even more tyre issues as he reports "I am falling off the cliff with the tyre." His ultras have done 10 laps.
14:59 Verstappen has a bit of wear on his "left" as he covers his seventh lap on the purple tyres.
14:58 While Alonso is inside the top ten in tenth place, Vandoorne is P14. He was half a second slower than his team-mate on his ultra run.
14:55 Ricciardo is back out on track for the first time after his disappointing qualy run. But heading out on used ultras, he is unlikely to improve on his P9.
14:54 If this was qualifying, the drop zone would be Sirotkin, Ericsson, Leclerc, Grosjean and Stroll. The latter is 3.6s off the pace.
14:49 Hamilton, Raikkonen and Bottas have all ventured out on used ultrasofts as they switch to long runs. Will be interesting to see how long these tyres hold up for. Gasly is on a ten-lap run on his.
14:46 Hulkenberg is up to sixth place ahead of Magnussen, Sainz, Ricciardo and Alonso.
14:43 The top four are separated by 0.108s!
14:42 Raikkonen goes purple in the first sector, green in the second, and goes second. He misses out on P1 by 0.007s.
14:41 No improvement from Ricciardo, who stays P9 and heads back to the pits.
14:39 Ricciardo and Raikkonen have ventured out on a set of ultrasoft tyres while Williams' troubles continue as Sirotkin's FW41 has just spat off its mirror.
14:37 And we have a spinning Stroll, who tells Williams that he "just lost the rear.". Moments later Grosjean spins his Haas at Turn 11.
14:36 Verstappen improves to third place, 0.341s down, but is pipped by Vettel, 0.108s down on Hamilton's best.
14:34 Verstappen, seventh after his earlier stint, is the next to take to the track on the ultrasoft tyres followed by Vettel.
14:31 Bottas is also on the ultras, can he make it a Mercedes 1-2? He does, 0.033s down on Hamilton.
14:29 He's purple in the first and second sectors but pushes a bit hard in the final and has a moment through Turn 11. He still goes quickest with a 1:33.482.
14:28 Hamilton has swapped to the ultras so here comes a hot, hot lap...
14:26 Grosjean has kicked up dirt and it looks as if his Haas did not escape his antics unscathed.
14:25 Raikkonen is on a good run. He climbed to second and is now knocking on the door of P1. He gets it by 0.116s ahead of Hamilton.
14:19 Vettel's now third fastest overall as Hamilton runs it a bit wide at the final corner. That turn caught out a lot of drivers this morning.
14:18 Lock up-less lap from Hamilton and he jumps to the top of the timesheet with a 1:34.1. Now it is Raikkonen's turn to lock up on his way to third place.
14:15 Good news is it was a small problem for Raikkonen, a cable was disconnected. Put back in place and the Finn is back on track.
14:14 And that changes again as Bottas comes through with a 1:34.4 on the medium tyres. His team-mate Hamilton is having a right royal time of it as he has locked up twice in one lap.
14:13 P1 for Hulkenberg, no make that Alonso, nope now Perez. A 35.6 for the Force India driver.
14:12 Only Raikkonen, Vettel and Ricciardo are in the pits at present.
14:09 Half of the field are now up and running but Raikkonen is heading back into the pits without a time. He's told to box as there is "an issue with the car."
14:07 Ferrari are reportedly running some test parts this session, including changes to the wings, as they look to find performance and build Vettel's confidence in the car.
14:04 A 1:36.9 for Grosjean to get the timesheet rolling.
14:03 The Haas lads and Gasly are the first out, no waiting around for these three as they are immediately into their afternoon programmes.
14:02 Plenty of work going on over at McLaren on Vandoorne's car. He visited the gravel in the morning's session and the team are doing some bodywork and set-up changes for FP2.
14:00 Green light and FP2 is underway in China...
13:55 Track temperature is up to 21'C but it still overcast and there is a chance of rain this session. But then again, there was in FP1 and it never arrived.
13:43 And the rest: 11 Pierre Gasly Toro Rosso 2.038s; 12 Fernando Alonso McLaren 2.045s; 13 Sergio Perez Force India 2.052s; 14 Esteban Ocon Force India 2.352s; 15 Sergey Sirotkin Williams 2.692s; 16 Brendon Hartley Toro Rosso 2.716s; 17 Charles Leclerc Sauber 2.724s; 18 Stoffel Vandoorne McLaren 2.757s; 19 Marcus Ericsson Sauber 2.91s; 20 Lance Stroll Williams 3.278s.
13:41 Top ten from FP1: 1 Lewis Hamilton Mercedes 1:33.999; 2 Kimi Raikkonen Ferrari 0.359s; 3 Valtteri Bottas Mercedes 0.458s; 4 Daniel Ricciardo Red Bull 0.538s; 5 Max Verstappen Red Bull 0.669s; 6 Sebastian Vettel Ferrari 0.862s; 7 Kevin Magnussen Haas 1.179s; 8 Carlos Sainz Renault 1.617s; 9 Romain Grosjean Haas 1.719s; 10 Nico Hulkenberg Renault 1.801s.
13:39 Speaking of Hamilton, the Brit was in flying form in FP1, quickest of all on the soft tyres. In fact his 1:33.999 on the softs was almost four-tenths faster than Raikkonen's ultrasoft tyre time.
13:34 Although rain was forecast for FP1 it remained dry. The drivers instead had to contend with blustery wind that sent many - most notably Max Verstappen - flying off the circuit. Kimi Raikkonen, Sebastian Vettel, Valtteri Bottas and Hamilton all added their names to the list of those struggling in the wind proving that it's not just the newbies that can have a difficult time out on track.
13:30 We're back, this is Practice 2 for the Chinese GP, the second and final session for Friday, and the big question is can anyone rein in Lewis Hamilton?
11:30 The chequered flag falls on FP1 with a P1 for Hamilton by 0.359s over Raikkonen, soft tyres v ultras, with Bottas third. Please join us in two hours for the build-up to FP2. Cheers.
11:26 Hartley is not impressed with Grosjean, feeling that the Haas just dived in front of him. Asked can you overtake, he replies that he's trying. He doesn't.
11:25 Less than 5 minutes remaining...
11:19 It is Magnussen, Sainz, Grosjean and Hulkenberg completing the top ten as Haas and Renault fight for position.
11:18 Vettel has been out on the ultrasoft tyres but is down in sixth place, 0.862s behind Hamilton.
11:14 Raikkonen moves up to second, 0.3s behind Hamilton.
11:13 Another off for Vandoorne as he loses it out of Turn 10 and eats gravel.
11:10 Raikkonen has gone third on the ultras, but is still 0.476s slower than Hamilton's soft tyre time.
11:08 Ricciardo on the ultras stays third behind the soft-tyred Mercedes, Verstappen stays fourth.
11:05 Verstappen tells Red Bull he has "flat spots" but that he reckons he can still do a lap on these tyres.
11:04 Vettel reports that a light drizzle is beginning to fall.
11:03 Verstappen is out on the purples and Verstappen is off on the purples as he lost it through the final corner as he looked to start a hot lap.
11:00 Ricciardo runs a bit wide through the final corner but improves to second place, 0.538s behind Hamilton.
10:58 Hamilton is purple.... fastest in the first sector and the second. And again in the third. It is a 1:33.999 for the Brit.
10:57 Vandoorne is the latest to get it a bit wrong, sending up a plume of dirt as he runs wide. Bottas added his name to the list.
10:54 Perez goes sixth on the medium tyres. He is just 0.07s slower than Alonso, who did his time on the ultras.
10:52 Sirotkin moves up to eight on the soft tyres while Perez heads out for another run on the mediums.
10:51 Despite being on the ultras, Alonso can only improve to fifth place, just over a second shy of Hamilton's P1 time.
10:48 And with that out comes Alonso after practicing a start at the end of the pit lane. He has swapped to the ultrasoft tyres.
10:47 Still no takers...
10:43 Silence has fallen over the circuit as we await the first driver to head back out.
10:38 The drivers have began to return to the pits to hand back their first set of tyres to Pirelli. They have 40 minutes in the session to run the 'free' set.
10:34 Ferrari are practicing a new pit stop regime as they look to avoid the disaster that was Bahrain.
10:33 Verstappen jumps up to third place on the medium tyres while behind the traditional six, it is Romain Grosjean who is leading best of the rest. Nope, make that Magnussen as he pips his team-mate. Carlos Sainz and Esteban Ocon complete the top ten.
10:30 Hamilton lowers his benchmark time to a 1:34.9.
10:27 Ferrari: Very wind and dusty out there. Vettel: I can feel it, especially braking for Turn 6. And with that he loses the back end just a bit through that Turn 6.
10:26 New P1 and it goes to Hamilton with a 1:35.2 on the soft tyres.
10:25 Bottas goes quickest with a 1:36.5 ahead of Raikkonen, Vettel and the two Red Bull drivers.
10:22 Verstappen is told that there is a "strong tail wind" at Turn 6 as he starts his first flying lap of the session. It is a 1:37.5 for the Red Bull driver and puts him P1.
10:18 Raikkonen, on the medium tyres, hits the front with a 1:37 and looked to be on course to better that only to lose the rear a bit and slide through 11. A tail wind may have played a part in that.
10:15 Mercedes are bouncing between rear wings while Raikkonen is out on track and testing the limits as he gets it a bit wrong and runs wide.
10:14 Alonso, running low and aggressive, pips the Williams driver with a 1:38.7.
10:12 First time on the board belongs to Lance Stroll with a 1:42.
10:10 News in is that Verstappen is running a new gearbox this weekend, however, given that he didn't finish in Bahrain, it is a penalty-free change.
10:07 "Radio check" from Hamilton and the response is "loud and clear" which is great news for the Brit and Mercedes as they had issues in Bahrain.
10:05 Problems for Sergio Perez as he is touring very slow. Nope, looks like he was just checking something as he is back on the power and on the pace.
10:04 May be a bit too early for Nico Hulkenberg as the German seemingly struggled to get dressed this morning. He reports a issue with his balaclava which is twisted to the left. Renault say they'll sort it when he completes his installation lap.
10:01 Definitely rain in the air as there's a rush to get out onto the track with 13 cars already doing their installation laps.
10:00 The light is green and a rather green Sauber leaves the pits with Marcus Ericsson's car covered in flo-vis paint.
09:55 The weather could play a role in the outcome of this weekend's race with rain forecast today and again on Saturday during qualifying. For now it is overcast and dry with a track temperature of 19'C.
09:46 Red Bull will be looking to bounce back this weekend after a double DNF in Bahrain while McLaren are chasing their first hat-trick of double points since 2011. Eyes will be on Toro Rosso after their stunning P4 last Sunday with the Red Bull junior team and Honda needing to show that it wasn't a one-off.
09:41 The good news, though, is we hopefully won't see any argy-bargy between Hamilton and Max Verstappen. They clashed last time out in Bahrain with Verstappen suffering a puncture. And while words were exchanged via the media, the duo have now buried the hatchet and shaken on it.
09:35 Given Mercedes' recent record at the Shanghai International, many are expecting Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas to romp to the 1-2. Hamilton, though, reckons Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari could prove to be a threat given their "straight line speed" and says "they'll be hard to beat". Vettel, though, says Mercedes are the favourites.
09:30 Welcome to the Shanghai International circuit for round three of the 2018 F1 World Championship, the Chinese Grand Prix. Mercedes are chasing their fifth successive win in China while Ferrari want their first since 2013.
