10 Jun 21:37 Little too late for Hamilton to breath down Ricciardo's neck right now? Or is it not?
10 Jun 21:37 Just 5 laps left.
10 Jun 21:18 Whoopsie daisy Grosjean!

10 Jun 21:11 This is Alonso's 8th official retirement at this very circuit.
10 Jun 21:09 300th GP race for Alonso and he is told to pit. Gutted, and he was doing so well. He truly does not deserve such a poor result.
10 Jun 21:01 Bottas told to box. Strategy is vital here.
10 Jun 20:57 "I's Hammer time!"
10 Jun 20:48 Nico Rosberg reckons Max seems to be struggling a bit right now with power.

10 Jun 20:23 Vettel leads by 1.2seconds and just set fastest lap with 1min16sec.
10 Jun 20:22 Stroll and Hartley under investigation.
10 Jun 20:21 And we're back to racing! Great restart for Vettel.
10 Jun 20:17 Second race Toro Rosso's Hartley crashes out.
10 Jun 20:16 Vet, Bot, Verstappen, Hamilton, Ricciardo, Raikkonen...
10 Jun 20:15 Safety car is out, no overtaking.
10 Jun 20:15 Looks like that Halo is working for the drivers.
10 Jun 20:14 Dramatic crash as Brendon Hartley and Lance Stroll are out!
10 Jun 20:13 Bottas gets ahead of Max, Vettel leads!
10 Jun 20:13 Lights out!
10 Jun 20:13 The last time Ferrari won here was in 2004 when Michael Schumacher took victory
10 Jun 20:10 Formation lap in progress.
10 Jun 20:07 Just 3 more mins to go before the lights go out for the 2018 Canadian GP.
14 Corners, 3 DRS sections...
09 Jun 22:33 Sebastian Vettel roared to pole position with a record-breaking lap for Ferrari during the dramatic qualifying session for the 2018 Canadian Grand Prix.
FINISH Not the most exciting race but wow in the championship heating up. Join us in two weeks for the return to the French GP and the next installment in the 2018 championship race. Cheers.
FINISH Vettel claims the lead in the championship by a single point ahead of Hamilton with Bottas still third.
FINISH Hulkenberg, Sainz, Ocon and the ever-impressive Leclerc complete the points in Canada.
FINISH Vettel wins in Canada, Ferrari's first since 2004! Bottas is second with Verstappen joining them on the podium. Ricciardo holds onto fourth ahead of Hamilton and Raikkonen.
Lap 70 The chequered flag is being waved but Vettel still has to complete this lap, luckily the Ferrari driver is aware that the waving is a mistake.
Lap 70 The chequered flag is being waved but Vettel still has to complete this lap, luckily the Ferrari driver is aware that the waving is a mistake.
Lap 70 Final lap for Vettel and co as they race towards the chequered flag...
Lap 69 Vettel, Bottas, Verstappen, Ricciardo, Hamilton, Raikkonen... and way down is Hulkenberg, Sainz, Ocon and Leclerc. It is extremely close between Bottas and Verstappen and Ricciardo and Hamilton with time fast running out.
Lap 68 Blue flags are being waved as Ricciardo and Hamilton come to pass a Renault in the form of Hulkenberg. Hamilton looks to make a move but Ricciardo gets a great exit and holds position. And there's more traffic, this time it is Sirotkin.
Lap 67 Hamilton is told to hit "position 1" as that will give him "everything" it can for the overtake. Meanwhile Verstappen has closed up on Bottas, 1.7s behind the Mercedes driver.
Lap 66 New fastest lap for Verstappen, a 1:13.864.
Lap 65 If Hamilton passes Ricciardo, he will leave Canada leading the standings by one point. If he doesn't, he'll leave one point behind Vettel.
Lap 64 Hamilton was told a few laps ago that he can turn down his engine if he wants but he has opted not to, instead using whatever power it has left to chase down Ricciardo.
Lap 63 We have heard that Hartley has gone to a local hospital for precautionary scans after his lap 1 crash. It was a hard hit into the outside wall and again into Stroll with a bit of air reached in the process.
Lap 62 Grosjean has hunted down Gasly on his fresher rubber but the Toro Rosso is not making it easy for him. If Grosjean takes Gasly soon he could possibly hunt down Leclerc for the final point.
Lap 61 Vettel has lapped everyone up to sixth place.
Lap 60 Ricciardo has put a few more tenths between himself and Hamilton as they battle over fourth place.
Lap 59 Hamilton is within DRS zone of Ricciardo as he seems to have finally hooked it.
Lap 58 Gasly may have been told Leclerc has a brake issue and to run him down but it is Leclerc who is showing pace. He has extended his lead over the Toro Rosso driver to over seven seconds. Vettel lays down a 1:13.964!
Lap 57 Sainz makes it easy for the Mercedes driver even though this is ruining his race as for the second time today he has to move over for Bottas. Good for Ocon who is 1.1s behind the Renault driver.
Lap 56 Bottas' turn for a bit of traffic with Sainz letting him through only for Bottas to run off the track at Turn 1 and Sainz to get back ahead. Now Bottas has to pass the two Renaults again.
Lap 55 Verstappen is told he is running a "good pace but there are 16 laps so keep on it."
Lap 54 The gap is down to 3.4s... are we in for a thrilling finish to a somewhat lacklustre Canadian GP?
Lap 53 This traffic is playing into Bottas' hands as he has taken over a second out of the Ferrari driver's lead.
Lap 52 Leclerc is told he is "in the points" which is always a good message to receive.
Lap 51 More traffic ahead of Vettel allows Bottas to close up a little bit. Meanwhile Ricciardo and Hamilton are having to make their way around a Haas.
Lap 50 Vandoorne is back in the pits and comes out as the penultimate car. Only Sirotkin is behind him.
Lap 49 Vettel by 6 and Grosjean is pitting in what could have been a crash as he misjudged it a bit. He finally gets rid of those ultrs and comes out in 12th place.
Lap 48 Leclerc's chances of scoring a point are still looking good as Gasly in 12th is almost four seconds behind the Sauber with Magnussen a further 13 off the pace. Not Haas' greatest afternoon despite Grosjean currently running P9.
Lap 47 Grosjean has still not stopped!
Lap 46 Perez is into the pits again, swapping his supersofts for another set of supersofts. He drops to 14th.
Lap 45 If the result stands as it is now, Vettel will score 25 points, Hamilton will bag 10. The Brit's 14 point lead will become a one point deficit.
Lap 44 Vettel, Bottas, Verstappen, Ricciardo - five seconds between each, followed by Hamilton, Raikkonen. Hulkenberg is a distant P7 ahead of Sainz, Grosjean and Ocon.
Lap 43 Good news for Leclerc is it means he is now one position away from a top ten result and he is likely to get that P10 when Grosjean, currently ninth, pits. The Haas driver should fall to about 14th when he stops.
Lap 42 300 and out for Alonso as he is told to "return to the garage" as his McLaren is not going to see out the rest of this grand prix. A slow trudging Alonso is limping back to the pits and in he goes. Or should we say out he goes. Third retirement of the day.
Lap 41 Vettel responds to Bottas' lap with a 1:14.163. Bam!
Lap 40 Hulkenberg is best of the rest ahead of Sainz, Grosjean (still to pit), and Ocon. Alonso is P11.
Lap 39 Bottas puts in a 1:14.5! That is fantastic as he cuts into Vettel's lead. With Verstappen five seconds behind Bottas it looks as if this battle is between Vettel and Bottas for the win.
Lap 38 Vettel grabs his set of supersoft Pirellis. His gap over Bottas was 6.4s before the pit stop and it is now 5.8s.
Lap 37 Supersoft tyres for Bottas and he comes out comfortably ahead of Verstappen thus holding onto his second place. Vettel is catching traffic in the form of Alonso and co. Vettel is told "box now."
Lap 36 Raikkonen has taken another tenth out of Hamilton as Mercedes' pit crew is getting tyres ready for Bottas. He is 6.4s behind the Ferrari driver and is told "box, box, box". And in he, well, boxes.
Lap 35 Great going from Ferrari as Vettel's lead is up to 6.2s and Raikkonen does a fastest lap of the race to get within DRS of Hamilton.
Lap 34 So just Vettel, Bottas and Grosjean still to pit inside the top ten. In fact they are the only three drivers who have to pit in the entire field. Hamilton has already put 1.3s between himself and Raikkonen.
Lap 33 Raikkonen finally pits for supersofts and he comes out of the pits side by side with Hamilton. The Mercedes driver is being held up by Sirotkin which gave Raikkonen a sniff but it is the Brit who wins that battle.
Lap 32 Vettel's lead is up to four seconds with Raikkonen 18s down. He is, however, 18s ahead of Hamilton so should be able to take him when he stops.
Lap 31 Grosjean defends against Ocon who is right on the Haas' rear wing but even with DRS is not able to make a move stick. Great defensive driving from Grosjean.
Lap 30 Ocon is all over the back of Grosjean who has yet to pit his Haas. Sainz was able to pass Grosjean but Ocon is finding it a bit more difficult. New fastest lap for Vettel!
Lap 29 Vettel's lead again takes a hit as he works his way around traffic. 3.2s is the gap to Bottas.
Lap 28 Ricciardo is told to "stick" with Verstappen as it will give him a "tow" and help him keep Hamilton at bay. The Mercedes is just under two seconds behind Ricciardo.
Lap 27 And with that Vettel ups his pace and he's back on the same pace as Bottas. Wonder if he made a mistake the previous lap.
Lap 26 Vettel is no longer have it all his own way. His almost five second gap is down to 3.4s. His last lap was 1.5s slower than Bottas'!
Lap 25 Alonso is up to 11th place as the pit stops play out with Magnussen the latest to stop. Leclerc is P12 ahead of Gasly, Perez, Magnussen, Sirotkin, Ericsson and Vandoorne. The last two in the field both pitted on lap 1 behind the Safety Car but it doesn't seem to have helped them in any way.
Lap 24 Raikkonen may be 17s behind Vettel but more importantly he is 16s ahead of Hamilton and could yet leapfrog him in his pit stop. Mercedes have left Hamilton know that he is "not safe to Raikkonen."
Lap 23 Vettel is told he is "still faster" than cars behind, which sounds like Ferrari are going to keep the race leader out there for a few laps more.
Lap 22 Vettel from Bottas, Raikkonen, Verstappen, Ricciardo, Hamilton, Gasly, Magnusen, Grosjean and Hulkenberg.
Lap 21 Leclerc has lost out to Alonso in the pit stops with the McLaren driver, who came in a lap earlier, P13 to the Sauber's P14. Looks like Hartley is finally on his way back to the pits, hoping in a golf kart for the drive back.
Lap 20 Leclerc into the pits. Interestingly Hamilton is keeping Ricciardo within his sights at the moment. He seems to be much happier on this set of supersofts than he was on the ultras.
Lap 19 Vettel is still leading, 4.5s the gap, Bottas is second and Raikkonen is up to third. All three still have to pit as does Leclerc, Alonso, Gasly and Magnussen inside the top ten.
Lap 18 Ricciardo is now in, his hypers for supersofts which seem to be the tyre for choice for all the drivers for the second stint. Ricciardo beats Hamilton out of the pits. Great going for Red Bull who are fourth and fifth now. Wolff is not happy.
Lap 17 Verstappen and Hamilton pit from third and fourth respectively. Supersofts for Max, and supersofts for Hamilton. They come out P5 and 6 with Hamilton just getting out ahead of Leclerc's Sauber.
Lap 16 Vettel's lead is 4.5s and surprisingly Verstappen is now five seconds behind Bottas! Five! The other Red Bull, though, is showing pace as Ricciardo hunts down Hamilton for fourth. Raikkonen is behind them, not close enough to attack but there to pick up the pieces if it goes wrong.
Lap 15 Now Sainz pits, hypers for supers. From P7 to P12 as he again lines up behind his team-mate on the race track. Ricciardo is all over the back of Hamilton's W09. Catch him or undercut him?
Lap 14 Hulkenberg is into the pits from seventh. Hypersoft tyres for supersofts for the Renault driver. He comes out P13 and just ahead of Ocon, who had a long pit stop due to a problem with the rear right tyre.
Lap 13 At the front, Vettel's lead is up to four seconds with Verstappen 2.6s behind Verstappen who in turn is 2 ahead of Hamilton and a further 1.2 ahead of Ricciardo. Verstappen is told that Bottas' tyres are "on the limit" and "overheating." True or just words of encouragement for Verstappen?
Lap 12 Now Ocon is in, first of the top ten to pit. He swaps his hypersoft tyres for supersofts and comes out P15. Good news for Hulkenberg as he has clean air ahead.
Lap 11 Vettel's lead is up to 3.4s over Bottas while Verstappen has fallen off the pace of the Mercedes driver. Ricciardo is also not challenging Hamilton meaning Red Bull are losing any advantage they should have gained by running the hypersofts in the first stint. Ocon, Hulkenberg and Sainz are still running 7th to 9th and nose to tail. Hulkenberg reports he is being "held up" but Ocon isn't exactly going to let him through... he's not Hamilton after all.
Lap 10 Here comes Alonso again but again Leclerc maintains his advantage. Perez has pitted from 13th place. He is still not happy with Sainz and has even called for him to be black-flagged. Perez is onto the supersoft tyres but can they do 60 laps or will he need to pit again?
Lap 9 Alonso tries to pass Leclerc into the first corner but the Sauber rookie holds fast and keeps P10. Meanwhile Hamilton may be having some problems as he reports "having drop-outs of power". He is still in fourth place and five seconds down on race leader Vettel.
Lap 8 Seems Leclerc and Alonso may have gotten a little too close earlier. "I will go close to the pitwall now," Alonso told McLaren. "Check the left part of the front wing. Leclerc put me on the grass. I think we touched wheel to wheel but check."
Lap 7 Leclerc is running inside the top ten which means Alonso must be nearby. Yip, there he is. The McLaren driver is lapping in 11th place and looks set to challenge Leclerc for the final points-paying position. DRS is enabled now, remember there are three DRS zones for the first time this weekend.
Lap 6 Hulkenberg is all over the back of Ocon's Force India for seventh with Sainz right behind his Renault team-mate. That upgraded Renault engine is doing its job very well.
Lap 5 The Safety Car is in and we are back racing with Vettel immediately putting a few metres between himself and Bottas while Verstappen is all over the Mercedes' rear wing. Trouble for Perez who gets it wrong at Turn 1 and cuts the corner. He made contact with Sainz which resulted in him spinning off the track. He rejoined in traffic. That could have gone horribly wrong.
Lap 4 This Safety Car is good news for Verstappen and Ricciardo, third and fifth, as it means their hypersofts will last longer. Hartley's car has already been removed with Stroll's car now hoisted away.
Lap 3 The good news is both drivers report they are "fine" after that crash. Replays show it looks like Stroll had a puncture before he pushed Hartley into the wall. Left rear puncture for the Williams driver caused that one.
Lap 2 Vandoorne and Ericsson have both pitted for fresh tyres.
Lap 2 The Safety Car is out...
Lap 1 Squeezed by Stroll into the wall, Hartley and Stroll both crash out of the grand prix with the Toro Rosso taking a massive hit into the wall before becoming airborne.
START Lights out and off we go... Vettel leads off the line with Verstappen challenging Bottas, They are side by side with the Mercedes driver holding onto P2. Hamilton is fourth ahead of Ricciardo, Raikkonen. Oh and there is a massive crash with Hartley and he has taken Stroll with him.
14:12 The grid forms at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve; we are moments away from the start of the Canadian GP. Will it be Vettel? Bottas? Verstappen? Or can Hamilton make it number seven? Let's find out!
14:10 The formation lap is underway with all 20 drivers getting away without issue.
14:01 There was a bit of a concern on Raikkonen's Ferrari prior to it coming out onto the grid with his inter-cooler on the verge of failing. That's what went on Grosjean's Ferrari engine. The Scuderia have changed the part for the Finn and believe he'll be ok.
13:59 Good news for Hartley as he reveals Honda have no concerns about his new engine. He may have the upgrade but he doesn't have the part that went on Gasly's car yesterday.
13:55 Silence falls over the grid as the Canadian national anthem rings out. We have one Canadian competing in F1 this season with it being Stroll's second in F1. Last year he scored points but this year, starting P16 and in a sluggish Williams, he faces a very tough task even getting close to the top ten.
13:51 70 laps await us and there is a 44 percent chance we'll see the Safety Car before those laps are counted down.
13:45 Alonso is one of several past Canadian GP winners on this year's grid. The list includes Ricciardo, Vettel and Raikkonen, who all have won one race, and Hamilton. The Brit has six!
13:42 A quick word on Alonso, this weekend is his 300th grand prix with Zak Brown saying they are going for a "move forward" strategy. So is pretty much everyone but pole sitter Vettel!
13:35 The pit lane is open and the drivers have begun to make their way towards the grid with Vettel the latest to make his way out.
13:29 The second half of the grid: 11. Kevin Magnussen Haas; 12. Brendon Hartley Toro Rosso; 13. Charles Leclerc Sauber; 14. Fernando Alonso McLaren; 15. Stoffel Vandoorne McLaren; 16. Lance Stroll Williams; 17. Sergey Sirotkin Williams; 18. Marcus Ericsson Sauber; 19. Pierre Gasly Toro Rosso; 20. Romain Grosjean Haas.
13:26 Bad news this morning for Pierre Gasly is that he has multiple grid penalties as Honda decided to put a brand new upgraded engine in his STR13 after qualifying. He also has other new engine components so is starting from the back row on the grid.
13:23 The top ten on the grid: 1. Sebastian Vettel Ferrari; 2. Valtteri Bottas Mercedes; 3. Max Verstappen Red Bull; 4. Lewis Hamilton Mercedes; 5. Kimi Raikkonen Ferrari; 6. Daniel Ricciardo Red Bull; 7. Nico Hulkenberg Renault; 8. Esteban Ocon Force India; 9. Carlos Sainz Renault; 10. Sergio Perez Force India.
13:14 Sebastian Vettel is starting today's race from pole position ahead of Valtteri Bottas, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. But will tyres decide the outcome? While Vettel and the Mercedes drivers, as well as Kimi Raikkonen, are starting on the ultrasofts, the Red Bull drivers and the rest of the top ten are on the hypers. That means Max and Daniel Ricciard should have better pace, and while they will need to pit around lap 15 - compared to the ultras at lap 25 - Pirelli reckon hypersoft to supersoft is the best strategy for today's grand prix.
13:00 Good afternoon, evening or morning depending on where you are in the world. Welcome to our coverage of the Canadian Grand Prix, round seven of the 2018 F1 World Championship.
15:02 That is pole position for Vettel with a 1:10.764 with Bottas second, 0.093s down. Verstappen is third. That's it for us for now, join us tomorrow for the Canadian Grand Prix. Cheers.
15:01 Hamilton improves to third place but can't make any inroads on the front row. Vettel ups his pace and is still in provisional pole, now Verstappen is up to third and Hamilton down to fourth...
15:00 The chequered flag is out... here we go...
14:59 Perez does a 1:12.6, slowest of all the times set so far.
14:58 Perez and Ocon are starting their flying laps, their first of the session having decided against an earlier run.
14:57 One by one all ten drivers head out onto the circuit.
14:55 Ricciardo slides into fifth place, make that sixth as Verstappen goes fourth.
14:54 Ricciardo and Verstappen leave the pits, heading out onto a near empty race-track.
14:53 Here comes Vettel, he is purple in the middle sector. He goes top with a 1:10.776. That is 0.081s up on Bottas' best. Hamilton is down in fourth place ahead of Hulkenberg and Sainz.
14:52 Raikkonen also pips Hamilton but can't join Bottas in the 1:10s.
14:51 Hamilton clocks the first time of Q3, a 1:11.227. Bottas beats him by 0.370s!
14:50 Mercedes, Ferrari and Renault are all out with Red Bull waiting in the pits along with Force India.
14:48 Green light and Hamilton leaves the pits with Bottas and Raikkonen already out on track.
14:47 This race has been won from pole position for the last three years so this is set to be a fierce battle.
14:44 10 drivers remain: Ricciardo, Verstappen, Bottas, Vettel, Raikkonen, Hamilton, Hulkenberg, Sainz, Ocon and Perez.
14:41 Out are: Magnussen, Hartley, Leclerc, Alonso and Vandoorne.... and Ricciardo goes quickest with a 1:11.434, a new lap record at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
14:40 The chequered flag is out with Vettel pulling into the pits as he is caught out by at least four cars of traffic as they all back off to create a gap but instead block the Ferrari driver.
14:38 It seems that while all four are lapping on the hypersofts, they are all backing off and not setting their fastest lap time on these tyres.
14:37 And it looks as if all four have left the pits on hypers!
14:36 Bottas, Vettel, Raikkonen and Hamilton have all used the ultrasofts for their first run. Will they change for the second?
14:34 Alonso is not have a great time in this qualifying session as his 1:12.9 leaves him down in 14th place. He's in the drop zone with Magnussen, Hartley, Vandoorne, Alonso and Leclerc.
14:31 Here comes Verstappen and he does what Ricciardo could not... P1 for the Dutchman with a 1:11.472.
14:30 Ricciardo on the hypersoft tyres but he is off the pace of Bottas. He goes fifth.
14:28 Nope, he has a massive lock up and only goes third, make that fourth as Bottas is quickest with a 1:11.514. Not great for Hamilton is he is going to try start the race on these tyres.
14:27 Vettel goes fastest with a 1:11.524 with Raikkonen second but here comes Hamilton and he is flying...
14:26 Raikkonen follows Magnussen out and he is on the ultrasoft tyres. Seems Ferrari are giving it a go as Vettel is also on the ultras. Hamilton comes out on ultras too.
14:25 This is a 15-minute session in which we will once again lose the slowest five drivers. Green light and off we go with Magnussen again the first man out.
14:23 All the drivers used the hypersofts for Q1 but it should be interesting to see if Mercedes gamble on the ultrasofts for the second session as that would then be the tyre that they start the grand prix on.
14:22 Just 15 drivers remain in Q2...
14:19 Out are: Gasly, Stroll, Sirotkin, Ericsson and Grosjean.
14:18 The chequered flag is out as Leclerc moves up to 12th place, Vandoorne goes P14, Magnussen is up to 8th, Alonso goes 14th and Gasly is now in the drop zone.
14:17 Stroll has pulled into the pits with his flat-spotted tyres. He is out of qualifying and won't be wowing his Canadian fans.
14:16 Stroll is unable to improve but Leclerc has done just that, moving up to 14th place. That drops Alonso into the, well, drop zone.
14:15 In the drop zone are: Stroll, Leclerc, Sirotkin, Ericsson and Grosjean. The Haas driver, though, is out of qualifying.
14:12 Ericsson is back in the pits after whacking the Turn 9 wall. He bounced off it with a broken Sauber and almost collected a Red Bull. That was oh so very, very close.
14:11 Verstappen is up to third place, 0.3s down on Vettel's best as the German is once again the lead driver... a 1:11.710. Hamilton moves up to fourth place ahead of Ricciardo, Bottas, Ocon, Carlos Sainz, Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg.
14:10 Hamilton gets a massive amount of oversteer through Turn 6, fighting his W09. He is 13s off the pace as Raikkonen goes down to a 1:11.725.
14:09 Another P1 for a Ferrari as Vettel lowers the benchmark to a 1:11 on his fifth lap on this set of hypersoft tyres. A scruffy lap for Ricciardo, and a near miss with a wall, leaves him P4 slower than Vettel, Raikkonen and Ocon.
14:07 Raikkonen takes over from Vettel with a 1:12.050 as Hamilton leaves the pits on a set of hypersoft tyres.
14:06 A moment for Leclerc as he locks up and drives across the escape road at Turn 1.
14:05 Sirotkin is now quickest of all but just four drivers have set times... make that five as Vettel hits the front with a 1:12.110.
14:03 Magnussen posts the first lap time of Q1, a 1:14.2.
14:02 Oil leak or blown engine? We'll find out soon as will Haas and Grosjean.
14:01 Kevin Magnussen is the first driver out but his team-mate Romain Grosjean won't be heading out as it looks as if the Ferrari engine in his Haas has blown as he drives down the pit lane. Talk about a smokey exit.
14:00 Green light and off we go...
13:55 The track temperature has risen to 40'C in the break between FP3 and qualifying. It remains a beautiful day in Montreal with near perfect conditions.
13:44 But while Hamilton was down in fourth place many are predicting the six-time Canadian GP winner is the one to beat in qualifying. Mercedes have hardly run on the hypersoft tyres so their true pace is still a mystery. Can Hamilton do it again? We'll find out in just over an hour.
13:35 Max Verstappen heads in qualifying as the driver to beat having topped all three practice sessions. His FP3 time, a 1:11.599, put him 0.049s ahead of Sebastian Vettel, who in turn was 0.002s up on Kimi Raikkonen with Lewis Hamilton a further 0.05s down.
13:30 Welcome back to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. We are just 30 minutes away from qualifying.
12:01 Practice ends with a hat-trick for Verstappen and a top four separated by 0.107s. It is looking like we could be on course for an awesome qualifying session. Join us again in two hours. Cheers.
12:00 The chequered flag is out on FP3...
11:58 Stroll reports that he can't get the car turned through Turn 2, which is a slow corner and highlights one of the FW41's weaknesses - cornering.
11:57 Sirotkin has moved up to 18th place, leaving Ericsson and Stroll as the slowest two drivers on the timesheet. Not great for Stroll at his home grand prix.
11:55 Five minutes remaining in practice...
11:52 Alonso is on a hot lap but it is only good enough to move him up to 13th place.
11:47 New P1 as Verstappen on the hypersoft tyres goes quickest of all with a 1:11.599.
11:46 If this was qualifying the dropzone would be: Alonso, Ericsson, Stroll, Sirotkin and Magnussen.
11:44 Hamilton has left the pits on a set of hypersoft tyres but aborts his first hot lap.
11:42 Ferrari are close, oh so very close, as Raikkonen stays second but closes the gap to Vettel to 0.002s.
11:41 The Monaco GP winner does a 1:12.153 to go third.
11:40 But here comes Ricciardo and he is purple in the first sector...
11:39 Vettel bounces back with a 1:11.648.
11:38 New P1 as Raikkonen beats Vettel by four tenths. It is a 1:11.763 for the Finn.
11:36 A hot lap from Vettel but he isn't able to improve on his time as he catches traffic in the form of Ericsson in the Sauber.
11:32 He loses time in the middle sector as he works his way around Stroll and only takes four-tenths off his ultrasoft tyre time.
11:31 Ricciardo is onto the hypersoft tyres...
11:30 Grosjean is not a happy chappy. There are a lot of beeps, a lot of questioning why someone isn't moving out of the way, and a few more beeps.
11:27 Oh no trouble for Raikkonen as his car is swamped by mechanics including the engine and electronic chaps. The FIA are keeping a close eye on proceedings as they do with everyone.
11:24 Honda's increased power seems to be a problem for Gasly as he is struggling to slow his STR13. Two offs in two laps for the under-fire New Zealander.
11:23 First hot lap from Verstappen sees him depose Hamilton for third place.
11:22 Hamilton goes third fastest on his first hot lap, fastest of the ultrasoft runners.
11:21 Although he has fallen to eighth, Hulkenberg reports that he is happy with Renault's overnight set up changes. "Good changes from yesterday’s set up," he said.
11:19 Bottas overhauls Ricciardo to slide into third place while Gasly and his upgraded Honda engine are fifth.
11:15 Hot lap coming in from Vettel as he goes purple in the first sector, green in the second, and purple in the third on his way to a 1:12.235.
11:14 Vandoorne up an escape road and having to do a 200 point turn to work his way out without tagging the concrete walls.
11:13 Despite Renault's troubles on Friday, Sainz reckoned they had a good benchmark on which to build. He shows that with a P3 time.
11:11 Vettel has improved his lap time but remains second, the gap to Raikkonen 0.4s.
11:10 Here comes Alonso to make his mark on the hypersoft tyres and his 1:14.0 puts him P3. Raikkonen has lowered the benchmark to a 1:12.359.
11:08 Ricciardo on the ultrasofts goes second but he's pipped by Vettel, who is using the hypersoft tyres.
11:07 The 28-year-old Ricciardo, born in Perth as the F1 graphics inform us, leaves the pits with a practice start on his way out.
11:06 ... a 1:12.931.
11:05 Raikkonen is straight into his morning's programme as the Ferrari driver begins a hot lap on the hypersoft tyres.
11:02 Hypersoft, ultrasoft and supersoft tyres are on offer this weekend with the pink tyres proving to be the quickest on Friday.
11:00 Green light and out go Ericsson and Grosjean.
10:54 It is another beautiful day in Montreal with the track temperature up to 32'C.
10:47 The bottom half of Friday's timesheet: 11 Charles Leclerc Sauber 1.686s; 12 Brendon Hartley Toro Rosso 1.691s; 13 Kevin Magnussen Haas 1.758s; 14 Nico Hulkenberg Renault 1.769s; 15 Marcus Ericsson Sauber 1.91s; 16 Stoffel Vandoorne McLaren 1.969s; 17 Carlos Sainz Renault 2.235s US; 18 Pierre Gasly Toro Rosso 2.288s SS; 19 Lance Stroll Williams 2.505s; 20 Sergey Sirotkin Williams 2.584s.
10:42 There was a fair amount of drama on Friday as Nico Hulkenberg suffered a gear selection issue in FP1, Lance Stroll tagged the Wall of Champions and Sergey Sirotkin spun and hit a barrier. In FP2 it was Carlos Sainz's turn to give Renault a headache as he crashed while Romain Grosjean hit a gopher and Stoffel Vandoorne also met a wall.
10:39 The top ten from FP2: 1 Max Verstappen Red Bull 1:12.198; 2 Kimi Raikkonen Ferrari 0.130s; 3 Daniel Ricciardo Red Bull 0.405s; 4 Lewis Hamilton Mercedes 0.579s SS; 5 Sebastian Vettel Ferrari 0.787s; 6 Valtteri Bottas Mercedes 0.863s US; 7 Romain Grosjean Haas 1.422s; 8 Esteban Ocon Force India 1.549s; 9 Sergio Perez Force India 1.556s; 10 Fernando Alonso McLaren 1.668s US.
10:36 Friday's practices belonged to Max Verstappen and the hypersoft tyres as he claimed back-to-back P1s. Mercedes, though, never tried the pink-marked Pirellis, even though they struggled on the tyre at the previous race in Monaco.
10:30 Welcome back to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, still home to the Canadian GP, the slightly tarnished Wall of Champions, Lance Stroll and one less gopher.
15:30 And there's the checkered flag! Verstappen has topped the timesheet once again with Raikkonen, Ricciardo, Hamilton, Vettel and Bottas forming the rest of the top six respectively. Make sure to join us again tomorrow for FP3 and the all-important qualifying session. Cheers!
15:25 Five minutes to go, and Ricciardo is on the hypersofts on a qualy sim. He backs off in the final sector, but it's still good enough to go up to P3 and four tenths off Verstappen.
15:22 Less than 10 minutes left in the session now. Not a lot in the way of leaderboard movement with plenty of high-fuel running taking place.
15:16 Ricciardo's lengthy delay had him at the bottom of the timesheet for quite some time, but he's now hopped up to P14 with a 1:14.0 on the supers. 1.3 seconds slower than Hamilton who set his fastest time on the same tyres.
15:10 Some very minor improvement from Vettel, but not enough to see him move from P4. Ricciardo's back out on track now, on supersoft tyres, seeing if his engine is going to behave itself.
15:06 Vettel improves from P13 to P4, but is still eight tenths behind Verstappen on the same hypersoft tyre.
15:05 Ricciardo is ready to play a part in the final 25 minutes or so. Hopefully his engine problems are fixed.
15:03 Track is clear again and the drivers are continuing with their qualifying sim runs.
14:59 Still under VSC conditions as Vandoorne's car is recovered.
14:54 "I've hit the wall and broke the suspension," says Stoffel Vandoorne, the latest to find the barriers in Montreal. He's come to a stop in the grass at the hairpin and the VSC is now in effect.
14:51 So Red Bull are top and tailing the FP2 leaderboard. Still no sign of Danny Ric as his mechanics continue to work on his poorly engine.
14:49 Verstappen gets a tenth up on Raikkonen to replace the Finn at the top of the FP2 timesheet. He posts a 1:12.1, also on the hypersoft tyres. The Red Bull is working particularly well in the final sector, handling the chicane very well indeed.
14:47 It's been a rather disjointed session for Vettel so far. Set-up changes saw him miss the first 20 minutes of FP2 and he is still yet to start his qualifying sim run. He's currently running in P9.
14:45 Stroll has just been told on team radio to slow down on entry into the final corner or risks finding the Wall of Champions again just like he did in FP1. He's currently down in P18, with team-mate Sirotkin one spot behind.
14:42 And now Raikkonen goes top by half a second. But Mercedes are completely avoiding the hypersoft for now unlike everyone else. They really don't like that tyre!
14:40 The gap to Hamilton is closing. Verstappen is 0.081 seconds off the Brit in P2; Raikkonen is now within a couple of tenths in P3.
14:36 Ricciardo, down in P17, is going to be out of action for at least another 30 minutes after Red Bull have identified an engine issue. "The engine wasn't running cleanly in the first session," said Horner, and that's continued into this session, too.
14:33 We have green lights again and we're diving straight into the qualifying simulation programmes. Lots of the pink-striped hypersofts on show now.
14:32 We're looking at a damaged rear wing, floor and more than likely a broken gearbox for Sainz. That's probably session over for the Spaniard.
14:28 Just before the red flags, Hamilton dropped into the 1:12.7 mark. Half a second clear of Verstappen now in P2.
14:25 Screeeeech! That's the sound of Carlos Sainz's wheels as he loses control at Turn 3 and bangs into the wall. The rear of the car hit that pretty hard and lots of tiny pieces of debris scatter to the ground like confetti. Red flags.
14:23 Hamilton improves slightly to a 1:13.031. Bottas, Verstappen, Alonso and Raikkonen make up the top five.
14:22 Everyone has put a time on the board now, apart from Vettel who is still stood beside his car waiting to get stuck into the afternoon session.
14:18 No messing around from Hamilton. On the supersofts, he shaves a whole second off Raikkonen's best to go top of the timesheet. Bottas soon slots into P2, four tenths behind.
14:16 Daniel Ricciardo's opening attack is enough to put him up to P7. Eight tenths behind the early pace-setter Raikkonen.
14:14 Mercedes duo Hamilton and Bottas have finally come out to play, but there is still a lot of work going on with Vettel's car. Lots of tinkering in the Ferrari garage.
14:10 Raikkonen takes a big chunk out of his opening time and sets a 1:14.817. He's on the ultrasofts for his first stint. As I type, he drops down further to a 1:14.382. Carlos Sainz is within a tenth of the Finn in P2.
14:07 Fernando Alonso is in no rush to head out just yet. He's in the garage having a natter with a certain Michael Andretti.
14:05 The Finn kicks us off with a 1:16:158.
14:00 Green lights! Kimi Raikkonen is first to bolt out of the pit lane in his shiny red Ferrari.
13:55 Five minutes until the pit lane opens again. The weather is still glorious and the temperature has creeped up a little bit, too.
13:50 Sergio Perez will be getting the first laps of the weekend under his belt after Canadian Nicholas Latifi got a run-out in FP1 with Force India on home soil. He propped up the FP1 timesheet but at least he looked after the Mexican's car.
13:42 Two drivers who will be making up for lost time are Renault's Nico Hulkenberg and Williams' Lance Stroll. 'The Hulk' broke down on the long back straight after being unable to shift gears and, once the session restarted, Stroll picked up a puncture after going into the Wall of Champions. Might need to rename it just for this weekend.
13:37 Max Verstappen, who has refrained from headbutting anyone you'll be pleased to know, topped FP1 a little earlier today with a 1:13:302 on the hypersofts. Lewis Hamilton, in P2, was within a tenth of the Dutchman and still yet to try out the quickest compound. Much more to see from him and Mercedes, and everyone else for that matter, in FP2.
13:30 Hello and welcome back to Montreal for the second practice session ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix. We'll have green lights again in 30 minutes. All times are local.
11:32 Join us in two hours for FP2. Cheers.
11:31 FP1 ends with a P1 for Verstappen ahead of Hamilton and Ricciardo.
11:30 The chequered flag is out...
11:28 And now we have Sirotkin rear first in the barrier at Turn 6 and Hartley going off the track.
11:27 Marcus Ericsson is facing the wrong way as he gets it wrong through the new DRS zone. A spin for the Swede but he continues on his way.
11:25 He does a 1:14 and moves up to seventh place.
11:24 Vettel is finally back out on track having fallen to ninth on the timesheet.
11:23 Honda's engine upgrade appears to be working well as Hartley is quickest in the speed trap.
11:18 Verstappen has returned to the track with all the necessary parts again attached to his RB14.
11:17 Latifi in his first FP1 in Montreal is down in 19th place and slowest of all.
11:14 Ricciardo goes purple in the first sector, green in the second, but stays third as he has a huge lock up.
11:13 Ferrari are making a few changes to Vettel's car as he has fallen down to ninth place.
11:09 Bottas has missed the final chicane, Ricciardo is up to third place, and Sainz has put his Renault up into seventh.
11:08 Verstappen reports that something is wrong with his car and says something "is hanging off." He heads back into the pits.
11:02 Stroll is returning to the pits with a puncture having whacked the Wall of Champions right at the very end of the wall. Almost avoided it, didn't.
11:01 Verstappen's great run continues as the Dutchman goes quickest of all with a 1:13.389. That puts him roughly half a second up on Hamilton.
11:00 Ricciardo's car has been fitted with a new bargeboard as he has a munch in the car.
10:59 Verstappen has improved to fourth place as Grosjean returns to the track with his fresh brakes.
10:53 Verstappen is out on track on the hypersoft tyres and finally sets a lap time, a 1:14.9. That puts him P7.
10:51 But McLaren's joy is short-lived as Hamilton breaks into the 1:13s and Bottas slides into second place. Kimi Raikkonen has moved up to fifth place.
10:50 Alonso heads back to the pits while Vandoorne shows that his team-mate's pace is not a fluke as he goes third fastest.
10:47 Aonso is back on top with a 1:14.064. Hamilton improves his time but stays third.
10:46 Bottas ups his pace and Alonso pips Hamilton to second. Interesting.
10:45 Only a few laps in and both Haas are having brake changes. Not great.
10:44 Gasly takes to the run-off and keeps to the left of the bollard so no foul there.
10:43 Hot lap coming from Bottas and he goes quickest with a 1:14.5. Hamilton goes two-tenths down.
10:40 Green light and away they go with Hamilton practicing a start on his way out of the pits.
10:39 The session will start in a minute.
10:34 Force India are having a good look at the rear of Esteban Ocon's VJM. He is one of three drivers yet to set a time this session.
10:31 Hulkenberg is told "that's it" and to "switch the engine off."
10:30 So Alonso is on top after the first 30 minutes in Montreal. Who would have thought!
10:29 The red flags are out for Hulkenberg's stricken Renault. He is told to try various settings but nothing is working.
10:28 Problems for Nico Hulkenberg, who reports that it "felt like it went out of gear."; He has stopped on the side of the track and reports that he's getting neutrals.
10:27 Bottas has a slow first lap, over 10 seconds down, but Hamilton is showing better pace. He goes fifth.
10:24 The action is heating up with Bottas and now Hamilton also heading out onto the circuit. Fernando Alonso is P1 with a 1:15.2.
10:20 Verstappen pitted after one lap and Ricciardo went quickest with 1:17.4. Sirotkin is down to a 1:18.7.
10:18 Verstappen is driving a rather green Red Bull as the front left of his RB14 is covered in flo-vis paint.
10:17 A 1:23.556 for Sirotkin who is joined out on track by Verstappen and Brendon Hartley. Ricciardo leaves the Red Bull garage.
10:15 Hey, we have action! Sergey Sirotkin leaves the Williams garage.
10:14 Pascal Wehrlein is here today with Mercedes, their reserve driver - and one of those linked to Brendon Hartley's Toro Rosso race-seat.
10:10 Given how dusty it is out on track at the moment, the drivers aren't exactly holding up their hands to be the ones to clean it.
10:06 Everyone except the Mercedes drivers, Hamilton and Bottas, has been out.
10:05 He is one of two Canadians contesting FP1 as Force India have drafted in test driver Nicholas Latifi for this session. He is driving Sergio Perez's car and leaves the pits for his installation lap.
10:03 Pierre Gasly is told it is "very dirty" out there and that is clear as the drivers left the pits for their installation laps in a plume of dust. One of those is Stroll, who is racing at home.
10:01 Supersofts, ultrasofts and hypersofts are the tyres on offer this weekend with Ferrari and Red Bull taking eight sets of the latter and Mercedes just five.
10:00 Green light and off we go with the sun shinning down on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Track temperature is 30'C.
09:53 So Hamilton thinks Ferrari will have the edge this weekend, Ferrari believe Red Bull will have it and Red Bull believe it is all Mercedes. We'll know a bit more come the end of today's play.
09:48 Daniel Ricciardo arrives in Montreal on the back of his Monaco GP win. He is now tied with Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel on two apiece but trails the Mercedes driver by 38 points in the championship. Vettel is second and Valtteri Bottas has fallen to fourth.
09:46 And onto Verstappen, he has six incidents in six races and is without a doubt a driver under pressure. He says he'll "headbutt" the next person who asks him about these incidents but, well, you can't help asking given his team-mate's form.
09:42 As for Red Bull, Renault and Honda are both racing their upgraded engines this weekend after which Red Bull will decide which supplier to go with for next season. Helmut Marko says they'll let the engine manufacturers, and hopefully us too, know by Austria.
09:39 On the Hamilton front, the Brit is chasing his seventh Canadian GP weekend and his fourth on the trot. He, however, got some bad news earlier this week with Mercedes revealing they won't be introducing their engine upgrade this weekend. Hamilton is a bit "concerned" that it will cost him a shot at win No7.
09:36 This weekend's focus is pretty much on Lewis Hamilton, can he make it seven Canadian GP wins, Red Bull's pending engine decision, Renault or Honda, and Max Verstappen, can he put in a clean error-free crash-less weekend.
09:30 Welcome to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve; home of the Canadian GP, the Wall of Champions, the gopher and one Lance Stroll.
