29 Oct 22:24 Oh yes, almost forgot bout Kimi Raikkonen in 3rd, no one has said a word about him all race. And some radio silence from one of the most verbal drivers on the field.
29 Oct 22:22 Marcus Ericsson's car's fire put out in the pits.
29 Oct 22:17 Verstappen still leads, Vettel P5 and Hamilton in P11.

29 Oct 21:00 Formation lap in process.
29 Oct 20:59 71 laps to go in this race.
Finish Thanks for joining our live coverage. See you again in two weeks in Brazil.
Finish And here comes Hamilton in P9. Not the race he would have wanted but he is now a four-time World Champion!
Finish Max Verstappen clinches a third win of his career! Bottas takes second and Raikkonen completes the podium. Vettel comes home fourth.
Lap 70 Two laps to go, Verstappen has 20 second lead.
Lap 68 Hamilton gets past Alonso! What a ding-dong battle between those two. After a little bit of contact, Hamilton squeezes past at Turn 5 which to the delight of the crowd. He is up to P9 and on the verge of a fourth World Championship.
Lap 57 Alonso is making life a little bit difficult for Hamilton. The Spaniard is defending heroically, which is bringing in Massa slightly from P11.
Lap 65 With Vettel still in P4, Hamilton does not need to take any risks here in the closing stages.
Lap 63 As predicted, Hamilton is starting to get in the mix for P8 with Magnussen and Alonso.
Lap 62 Another Renault-powered car has now retired! Sainz is the latest victim, but he has been running at the back all afternoon.
Lap 60 "Raikkonen is 23 seconds ahead," Vettel is told. His reply? "Mamma mia." It's looking like game over with 11 laps to go.
Lap 59 Ericsson becomes the fourth race retirement of the afternoon as his Sauber suddenly catches fire heading through the stadium section. He is able to bring the car back into the pits.
Lap 57 Hamilton is into the points with a lovely move down the inside of Massa at Turn 2; Vettel overtakes Ocon for P4.
Lap 56 As Vettel lines up Ocon, Hamilton is all over the back of Massa for P10. Hamilton is reassured that the top two is out of reach for his nearest and only title rival.
Lap 54 Here comes Vettel on the charge. He takes on Stroll for P5 but he is 50 seconds off second-place Bottas with 17 laps remaining.
Lap 52 Hamilton is now up to P11 with a straightforward move on Vandoorne.
Lap 51 A lock-up from Vettel on the inside of Turn 2, but he makes a daring move stick on home favourite Perez for P6. He has got nothing to lose at this stage.
Lap 49 And Hamilton has also been told that the best finish Vettel has in sight at the moment is P4, which would be nowhere near enough to delay the title celebrations.
Lap 47 "We're forecast for P8," Hamilton is told on team radio. If that's the case, Vettel would need to win the race to prevent Hamilton from winning the title here.
Lap 46 Hamilton kisses the kerb at Turn 1, squeezing down the inside of Ericsson for P12. Vettel, in P7, is told to keep pushing and is in hot pursuit of Perez.
Lap 43 It's all a bit quiet at there. Hamilton's slow progress continues as he finally has enough of Gasly and passes him for P13.
Lap 40 Verstappen is told to take it easy but he sets two identical lap times. "I'm really sorry," he tells his engineer over team radio. The gap out in front is 13 seconds.
Lap 38 Vettel is up to P7 now, passing Magnussen with ease at Turn 1. Hamilton flies beyond Wehrlein for P14.
Lap 37 Vettel needs to get up to P2 or else Hamilton will win the title. Hamilton's team-mate Bottas currently occupies that spot, so the Finn could play a crucial role in the latter stages.
Lap 36 Speaking of Hamilton, he has just got past Grosjean for P15.
Lap 35 Vettel also pitted for fresh ultrasofts, which he has now to got to make last for 36 laps. That's going to be one lively charge from P8. Hamilton's gone for the supersofts.
Lap 34 The VSC is ending and it's worked out pretty well for Raikkonen, who has got the jump on Ocon in the pits for P3.
Lap 33 Virtual Safety Car! Hartley's Toro Rosso is up in smoke and that sparks plenty of action in the pits. Verstappen comes in, as does Hamilton from the back.
Lap 32 Alonso is a sitting duck as Vettel waltzes past for P8. Hamilton is now getting into the groove of the softs and lapping as quick as the leaders at the moment.
Lap 31 Huge cheers from the crowd as local hero Perez gets the better of Magnussen for P6.
Lap 30 Hamilton takes care of Wehrlein to move to P16. Still plenty ahead who have yet to pit.
Lap 28 And Hamilton finally finds a way past Sainz and is up to P17.
Lap 27 That retirement puts Vettel back in the points, but it's not enough at the moment to prevent Hamilton from winning the title this afternoon.
Lap 26 Another retirement for Hulkenberg! That's his fourth race retirement in five races.
Lap 24 Meanwhile, Vettel has gobbled up Vandorne for P11. Alonso is next up the road for the German...
Lap 22 Well there's something we did not think we would see today. Back-marker Hamilton has just seen blue flags to let race leader Max Verstappen through.
Lap 20 Ocon pits from P3, swapping ultrasofts for the softs. He comes back out in P5.
Lap 19 "Just to get past these guys is difficult," says Hamilton. He is still at the back of the pack with Sainz and Wehrlein immediately ahead of him.
Lap 18 Make that P13 for Vettel. Same corner, same move on Grosjean who puts up a little bit of fight before finally succumbing to the Ferrari.
Lap 16 Vettel is carrying on regardless and is now up to P14 after making easy work of Gasly at Turn 1.
Lap 16 Grosjean gets a 5-second penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage. Still no news on whether Vettel's overtake on Massa will be looked at.
Lap 15 Bottas sets the new fastest lap - a 1:21.026 - but is 5.3 seconds away from leader Verstappen.
Lap 14 As it stands, Hamilton would win the World Championship, but not in the way he would have wanted.
Lap 14 "It's fun to push the other guy off the track?" bemoans Vettel. "I had my nose ahead."
Lap 14 Meanwhile, Grosjean in P13 is under investigation for gaining an advantage going off the track.
Lap 13 Vettel has passed Massa for P15 but left the track when doing so. Will the stewards have a little look at that one?
Lap 11 No further action necessary for the Verstappen, Vettel and Hamilton start as the FIA realise it's actual F1 racing.
Lap 10 Verstappen has a four second gap to Bottas. Vettel is P16 with Hamilton still bringing up the rear. The stewards have 'noted' the start between Verstappen, Vettel and Hamilton.
Lap 9 Turbo issues brought an end to Ricciardo's race and the Aussie is already on his way to speak with the press.
Lap 8 ''Did he hit me deliberately?'' Hamilton asks Mercedes. "Not sure, Lewis" comes the reply.
Lap 6 Ricciardo is our first retirement of the afternoon and that's his second DNF in two weekends. What a change in fortune at Red Bull with Verstappen now the man having it all his own way in front.
Lap 5 Wehrlein, Massa and Sainz have all had to pit early too. A chaotic start in Mexico.
Lap 3 So Verstappen leads Bottas, followed by Ocon, Hulkenberg, Perez and Massa following and Raikkonen down in P7.
Lap 2 Vettel and Hamilton are both at the very back of the pack after being forced into the pits. It remains to be seen whether Hamilton picked up damage in that three-way battle, too.
Lap 1 Vettel's front nose has taken a battering and Hamilton has a puncture! What drama!
Lap 1 Go! Go! Go! Vettel, Verstappen and Hamilton are three wide going into Turn 1 and there's contact between the leading duo!
13:01 All drivers are on ultrasofts to begin with bar Grosjean and Alonso, who are on the supersofts. A pretty straightforward one-stop strategy this afternoon.
13:00 It's a long, long, long way down to Turn 1, so expect plenty of action once the lights go green. Can Vettel and Verstappen avoid a repeat of the start in Singapore? We'll find out very soon as the formation lap is underway...
12:53 No chance of any rain in Mexico City this afternoon. It's overcast, but very warm with track temps up to 42 degrees. There are 71 laps ahead of us...
12:45 All the drivers have made their way down to the front for a minute's silence to remember the victims of the recent earthquake that hit Mexico City. Then it's national anthem time...
12:40 A reminder of those title permutations: Hamilton is world champion if he finishes fifth or higher. If Vettel finishes second, Hamilton is world champion if he finishes ninth or higher. If Vettel is third or lower, Hamilton will be world champion.
12:37 Vettel: "Turn one is key. We will try to get a good start, not worry about the others and see what we can do."
12:35 Verstappen: “I think we have better pace than last year. I’m eyeing a podium anyway but targeting victory."
12:33 Hamilton: "I feel the most excited for a race in a long time. Where I’m positioned, I woke up this morning just hoping that I can get a good start to race these guys."
12:30 The pit lane is now open and the drivers are going through their start procedures on the exit.
12:20 And now onto those pesky penalties. Daniel Riccardo lines up in P16 with a 20-place grid drop, followed by Brendon Hartley (20 places), Fernando Alonso (20 places), Stoffel Vandoorne (35 places) and Pierre Gasly (20 places).
12:15 Lance Stroll, starting P11, has the two Saubers for company in behind with Marcus Ericsson and Pascal Wehrlein both boosted by engine penalties to others. Kevin Magnussen (P14) and Romain Grosjean (P15) are the last penalty-free drivers.
12:10 Nico Hulkenberg, Carlos Sainz, home favourite Sergio Perez and Felipe Massa complete the top 10 on the starting grid.
12:10 Kimi Raikkonen is on the third row after a poor qualifying session and is joined by Force India's Esteban Ocon in P6.
12:05 Sebastian Vettel will line-up on pole position after pipping Max Verstappen by 0.086 seconds in a thrilling qualifying session on Saturday. Verstappen avoided a penalty for an alleged block on Bottas, with the Finn starting fourth and joining team-mate Hamilton on the second row of the grid.
12:00 Hello and welcome to a potentially title-defining Mexico Grand Prix, where Lewis Hamilton needs to finish just P5 or higher to clinch a fourth World Championship. Lights out in one hour...
14:04 Thanks for joining our live coverage. Join us for the race tomorrow! Cheers.
14:03 Completing the top 10: Raikkonen, Ocon, Ricciardo, Hulkenberg, Sainz and Perez.
14:02 And Vettel takes it! He goes 0.086 seconds quicker to clinch his 50th career pole. Verstappen drops to P2 with Hamilton starting on the second row alongside Bottas.
14:01 Vettel's on a flyer...Verstappen's pole is under threat!
14:00 But Hamilton doesn't have time and has to settle for P3 after a rather ordinary lap!
13:59 Bottas goes P4, three tenths off the pace. He's got time for another.
13:58 Verstappen backs off again and will have a second go at beating his provisional pole time before the checkered flags wave.
13:57 But Verstappen will be investigated after the session for potentially holding up Bottas. Uh oh...
13:56 Gearing up for the final hot laps with Verstappen on the cusp of a first career pole position...
13:53 Vettel puts himself on provisional pole with a 1:16.8, but not for long as Verstappen finds three tenths on the German!
13:51 Verstappen backs out of his first hot lap, as does Bottas after a lock-up in the stadium section.
13:50 Bottas and Hamilton are in behind...
13:49 Verstappen the first of the front-runners to start his hot lap...
13:48 Green light! Game on!
19:45 Well, well, well, this is wide open! Mercedes have a real battle for pole on their hands with Ferrari and Red Bull very much in the mix. Verstappen the man to beat here given his awesome Q2 laps, but Mercedes and Ferrari can both turn the engines up even more...
13:41 Eliminated in Q2: Massa, Stroll, Hartley, Alonso, Vandoorne.
13:40 Not much in the way of improvement from many drivers., but Vettel does and closes the gap to Verstappen to three tenths.
13:39 No improvement from Hamilton who was way off the pace in his last lap in Q2 with fresh ultras.
13:38 Massa's first attempt is only good for P11 and has another tenth to find at least.
13:36 Currently in the danger zone: Massa, Hartley, Stroll, Alonso, Vandoorne. Hartley won't be coming out again and the two McLaren cars are staying pit with their hefty engine penalties coming up.
13:33 Verstappen stays out for another bite at the cherry and has smashed the timesheets by going half a second quicker than anyone else!
13:30 "No power," reports Hartley and his Toro Rosso has come to a stop in sector two where there are now double-waved yellows, ruining a bunch of laps including Max Verstappen's first attack.
13:29 A 1:17.035 for Hamilton which puts him back on top. He is just 0.23s quicker than Vettel.
13:29 Vettel shaves a tenth off that but Hamilton is flying...
13:28 Hamilton is going for a two-lap run, meaning Bottas is in top spot for now with a 1:17.1.
13:25 Q2 is up and running. A 15-minute session with five more drivers being eliminated ahead of the top 10 shoot-out. Mercedes are eager to get their banker laps in...
13:19 Out in Q1: Ericsson, Wehrlein, Magnussen, Grosjean, Gasly.
13:19 Can Wehrlein get out of danger? Nope! No improvement.
13:19 Stroll on the bubble in P15...
13:18 Hartley stays in 13th...
13:17 Magnussen improves but it's not enough to get him out of Q1.
13:15 In the danger zone with three minutes remaining: Grosjean, Ericsson, Magnussen, Vandoorne. Still no sign of Gasly despite the last-minute scramble.
13:13 An excellent lap from Alonso, who is up to P5 and just two tenths off the pace.
13:12 Ricciardo does indeed try again, but it's only good enough for P8.
13:10 Red Bull have joined Ferrari by starting on the supers with Verstappen up to P3. A poor lap from Ricciardo, though, who is down in P12 and will definitely have to go again.
13:09 Bizarre scenes at the Toro Rosso garage with Pierre Gasly dashing off to get changed because the mechanics are now busting a gut to get his car ready for a lap in Q1.
13:07 Both Mercedes are out on the quicker ultrasoft tyres and Hamilton pips Bottas to P1 with a 1:17.518.
13:05 What can Vettel produce on his first hot lap with soft tyres strapped on? A 1:18.045 which is a tenth quicker than team-mate Raikkonen on the same compound.
13:03 Romain Grosjean slaps the first timed lap on the board. It's a 1:21.359 on the ultras but he did lock up going through the awesome stadium section.
13:02 Ferrari are the first of the big boys out of the blocks.
13:00 Green lights! The first 18-minute session is underway...
12:55 Gasly has just taken his seat on the pit wall, so 19 drivers taking part in qualifying. That means four drivers will be eliminated in Q1 which is now just five minutes away.
12:50 Temperatures have risen quite nicely from this morning, with the track temp currently at a toasty 42 degrees. No chance of any rain in the next hour.
12:45 Three practice sessions, three different leaders with Bottas, Ricciardo and Verstappen all topping the timesheets. Hamilton, who can win the world title with a P5 finish or better on Sunday, has been P2 all weekend thus far.
12:40 That penalty will put Gasly at the back with Fernando Alonso (20-place grid drop) and Stoffel Vandoorne (35-place grid drop) in the other confirmed engine penalties so far this weekend.
12:36 It looks like we will be one car light in Q1. Pierre Gasly, who now has a 15-place grid drop this weekend, will take no part in qualifying as Toro Rosso mechanics opt against a rushed engine change from FP3 to focus on getting the car race ready.
12:30 Hello and welcome back to Mexico City for what promises to be an intriguing qualifying session with just two tenths covering the top five in FP3: Verstappen, Hamilton, Vettel, Bottas, Ricciardo. Q1 gets underway in 30 minutes.
11:02 That is it for now, join us in two hours for qualifying for the Mexican Grand Prix. Cheers.
11:01 Grosjean ends his session with a bounce over the Turn 12 kerbs before he returns to the pits.
11:00 The chequered flag is out on FP3, which ends with Verstappen in P1 ahead of Hamilton and Vettel.
10:58 Two minutes remaining in FP3...
10:55 Stroll is off the track at the final corner but, unlike Grosjean from Friday, he managed to prevent a spin, keeps his foot in, and continues on his way.
10:53 It has been confirmed that Gasly's penalty tally is up to 15 as the Frenchman has yet more new engine parts in his Toro Rosso.
10:53 It has been confirmed that Gasly's penalty tally is up to 15 as the Frenchman has yet more new engine parts in his Toro Rosso.
10:48 Despite his troubles Hamilton has improved to second place, 0.075s down on Verstappen. Vettel is third, 0.117s off the pace.
10:45 Hamilton isn't happy with his car and reports: There's some power issues." The reply: "We're having a look."
10:41 But it is Verstappen who slides up into P1 with a 1:17.223. That puts him just 0.007s up on Vettel. Hamlton fails to improve on his time.
10:40 But here comes Vettel and he goes P1 with a 1:17.230. Raikkonen and Hamilton are next...
10:39 Bottas is on a personal best in the opening two sectors and he shaves his P1 time down to a 1:17.496.
10:38 Bottas is back out on a new set of ultras as he looks to better his previous time...
10:37 Gasly's car is back in the Toro Rosso garage and they are working furiously on his car. There is another mechanic sitting on the ground carrying an insulting hook and his job is to grab the chap working on the car should he shock himself on the ERS. Wow!
10:34 Problems for Wehrlein who seems to have a suspected battery issue. He is one of two drivers - the other being Gasly - who has yet to set a time this morning.
10:33 Using a second set of ultrasoft tyres Hulkenberg is up to sixth place in a best of the rest slot. He is within a second of Bottas' P1 time.
10:30 Halfway through FP3 and the top ten is: Bottas, Hamilton, Verstappen, Vettel, Sainz, Perez, Ocon, Ricciardo, Raikkonen and Stroll.
10:28 Bottas is down to 1:17.537 putting him 0.298s up on Hamilton.
10:25 The top six - Bottas, Hamilton, Verstappen, Vettel, Sainz and Perez - are separated by less than a second.
10:24 Still waiting for lap times from Wehrlein, Magnussen, Gasly and Ricciardo. The latter is in his garage with his helmet off - and now the helmet is going on.
10:23 Bottas is the next up into the P1 as the Mercedes driver sets a 1:17.681 on the ultras. That is a new track record.
10:20 Another lap and another Renault driver cutting the grass with Sainz joining Hulkenberg in his mowing expedition. Now Ocon does the same.
10:19 A good start to the morning for Verstappen who, despite being on the supersofts, is up to second place. The Red Bull driver is 0.133s off the pace.
10:18 Hamiltpn is on a flier on the ultrasoft tyres and the British driver shoots up into P1 with a 1:18.081.
10:16 Vettel is up to second place while Hulkenberg has a huge lock up, smoke coming from all four tyres.
10:15 Ocon goes quickest on the ultras, a 1:18.845 for the Force India driver, while Hamilton has left the pits to start his morning run. Bottas follows him out.
10:14 Lapping on the supersoft tyres, Raikkonen is down to a 1:18.9 while Hulkenberg on the ultrasofts is at 0.465s down. But he's now in third as Sainz goes P2, 0.33s off the pace.
10:11 Yellow flags are lifted after Gasly's troubles and the drivers are laying down laps with Raikkonen quickest ahead of Alonso.
10:09 Toro Rosso have tried and failed and Gasly's session is over.
10:08 Gasly is still waiting as Toro Rosso try to resolve the issue while the marshals are on stand by. There is a nice gap to push the car through and out of the way but alas nothing less. He is told to put the car in "P1 and wait 10 seconds" then put it in "P1 again and wait five seconds". It seems a complicated solution but alas nothing is working just yet.
10:04 First time on the board belongs to Alonso with a 1:21.470 while Gasly is in trouble. He has pulled over onto the side of the track, reporting an "engine problem."
10:03 Helmet on for Hamilton as the Mercedes driver climbs into his car ahead of his first run of the session.
10:01 Pascal Wehrlein is the first driver out ahead of Marcus Ericsson, Magnussen, Alonso, Vettel, Vandoorne and Romain Grosjean.
10:00 Green light and off we go...
09:58 The news just in is that Kevin Magnussen has been cleared to race in FP3 after a stomach bug laid him low on Friday.
09:53 It is a chilly start to the morning with the air temperature a mere 12'C. The track temperature is up to 22'C but that is someway off the 40plus from Friday's second practice.
09:47 Several drivers had issues on Friday including Hamilton and Vettel. While the Mercedes driver spun in FP2, flat-spotting his supersoft tyres, Vettel's fire extinguisher left him with a wet spot as it exploded in his car.
09:42 A rundown of the top ten: 1 Daniel Ricciardo Red Bull 1:17.801; 2 Lewis Hamilton Mercedes 1:17.932 0.131; 3 Max Verstappen Red Bull 1:17.964 0.163; 4 Sebastian Vettel Ferrari 1:18.051 0.25; 5 Kimi Raikkonen Ferrari 1:18.142 0.341; 6 Valtteri Bottas Mercedes 1:18.299 0.498; 7 Fernando Alonso McLaren 1:18.508 0.707; 8 Sergio Perez Force India 1:18.728 0.927; 9 Nico Hulkenberg Renault Sport 1:18.775 0.974; 10 Esteban Ocon Force India 1:18.822 1.021.
09:36 Friday's second practice belonged to Daniel Ricciardo who set the pace ahead of Lewis Hamilton. It is, however, the Brit who is sporting the biggest grin this weekend as he can wrap up his fourth World title... all he needs is a P5 or better come Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix.
09:30 Welcome back to the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez for Saturday's third and final practice for the Mexican GP weekend. All times are local.
15:31 Ricciardo finishes quickest of all ahead of Hamilton, Verstappen and Vettel. Join us on Saturday for FP3 for the Mexican GP. Cheers.
15:30 And that is it for FP2 as the chequered flag is waved at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
15:25 Hartley is still not happy with the Renault engine in his Toro Rosso and reports more noises as he heads back into the pits.
15:24 Interestingly this session is on course to finish with the top nine drivers within a second of one another. Ricciardo is quickest on a 1:17.801 with Hulkenberg P9 on a 1:18.775.
15:21 Into the final ten minutes...
15:16 Alonso and Vandoorne leave the pits in formation as they return to the track to work on race set-up for Sunday.
15:12 An "engine issue" that looks terminal is Horner's verdict on Verstappen's current problem.
15:11 A spin for Hartley, who gets it wrong through Turn 6.
15:06 Hartley reports that his engine "made a strange noise" at the exit of Turn 5 - specifically.
15:04 The majority of the drivers have swapped to race simulation work with Vettel leaving the pits on a used set of ultras as too does Magnussen.
15:01 Hartley is currently 13th on the timesheets, not a bad afternoon for the Toro Rosso driver.
14:56 It's a power unit problem that has curtailed Gasly's running.
14:55 Another lap, another improvement from Alonso as he goes P7. A shame he will have to start the race from the back of the grid.
14:54 Gasly is sitting on the Toro Rosso pit wall with only 10 laps on the board as the team work on his STR112.
14:53 Alonso has entered the top ten in ninth place, 1.1s off the pace set by Ricciardo.
14:49 Verstappen's third flying lap is a little scruffier as he locks up and stays third. He was, however, very close to his previous best.
14:46 Vettel is up to third, 0.250s down on Ricciardo with Hamilton sitting P2. Verstappen leapfrogs Vettel on his second flying lap.
14:43 Ricciardo hits the front with a 1:17.801 on his ultras as Vettel starts a run but does so with an off at Turn 11.
14:42 Grosjean's day is over with Haas reporting that he won't rejoin the session.
14:39 Raikkonen goes second on his ultra run, 0.210s down on Hamilton.
14:38 Bottas heads back to the pits, 0.367s down on Hamilton.
14:37 Here come the Mercedes lads on the ultras and Bottas goes quickest only to lose it to Hamilton. He's down to a 1:17. 932 on his second flying lap.
14:32 Time check: Ricciardo is fastest by 0.039s over Verstappen. Next in line are Raikkonen, Alonso, Bottas, Vettel, Perez, Hulkenberg, Ocon and Sainz. Still no sign of Hamilton after his earlier spin.
14:27 More spins come through as Stroll gets it wrong at Turn 5 and Sainz also spins his car.
14:24 Vettel says it thinks it was the fire extinguisher. He's back in the pits with a white patch on his tush.
14:23 Hamilton is now the only driver without a time to his name. His title rival, if you can call it that, Vettel is sixth on the supersoft tyres. "Something burst," he reports along with a "slow in."
14:20 Great lap from Verstappen on the soft tyres sees him cross the line with a 1:18.8 while Raikkonen goes third and Bottas fourth.
14:18 Hamilton spins! And that will be a bit flat spot. He got it wrong out of Turn 11 and burned rubber.
14:17 A flying lap on the ultrasoft tyres puts Alonso P1 with a 1:19.2. Hulkenberg goes second on the suupersofts, make that Sainz goes second on the supersofts.
14:15 Ouch more problems for Vandoorne. He reports that the "car is going sideways" and is told to "pull over in the slow lane" of the pits. The McLaren boys are on hand to give him a push back to the garage.
14:14 Green light and FP2 is back on...
14:12 This is a good red for Vettel as Ferrari are still working on his car, which they have been doing since FP1.
14:10 Grosjean's car appears to have lost bits of the floor and likely bodywork too. Red flags are still out.
14:06 Red flag for the debris from Grosjean's car.
14:05 Grosjean spins out of the final corner. Still crossed the line with a 1:25.5. His tyres are shot, spewing chucks of rubber and maybe bits of bodywork and flooring.
14:04 Ocon reports that his car is pulling "left to right on the straight." But he's told to "let it warm up" and then "we'll see." Remember his car was in a crash earlier thanks to Celis Jr.
14:03 Vandoorne returns to the pits after a single lap but hey, it is a start. Magnussen, Grosjean, Hartley, Ocon, Gasly, Stroll, Wehrlein and Ericsson are all out there.
14:00 The light goes green and Vandoorne, with his new new engine, is the first driver out for the start of FP2.
13:52 The heat is on this afternoon, literally. While the air temperature is up to 22'C, the track is already up to 45'C.
13:45 The full top ten from FP1: 1 Valtteri Bottas Mercedes 1:17.824 US; 2 Lewis Hamilton Mercedes 1:18.290 0.466 US; 3 Max Verstappen Red Bull 1:18.395 0.571 SS; 4 Daniel Ricciardo Red Bull 1:18.421 0.597 SS; 5 Sebastian Vettel Ferrari 1:18.586 0.762 SS; 6 Kimi Raikkonen Ferrari 1:19.008 1.184 SS; 7 Sergio Perez Force India 1:19.240 1.416 SS; 8 Fernando Alonso McLaren 1:19.346 1.522 US; 9 Felipe Massa Williams 1:19.443 1.619 US; 10 Nico Hulkenberg Renault Sport 1:19.552 1.728 US.
13:37 Friday's first practice belonged to Valtteri Bottas, who led home a Mercedes 1-2 by 0.466s ahead of Lewis Hamilton with Max Verstappen third. Stoffel Vandoorne's brand new engine failed, Alfonso Celis Jr crashed Esteban Ocon's car, Brendon Hartley had an engine issue but managed to get going again, and Kimi Raikkonen spun.
13:30 Welcome back to the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez for the second of Friday's two 90-minute practice sessions.
11:30 And there's the checkered flag with Bottas leading a Mercedes one-two in FP1. But rivals Red Bull and Ferrari are yet to run the quickest tyres, which we will no doubt see in this afternoon's FP2 session. Join us again then.
11:25 We're heading into the last five minutes of the session, just as Wehrlein locks up at Turn 1 and goes onto the grass.
11:20 "What the hell is this guy doing?" Stroll complains over the radio after almost colliding with a Haas at Turn 1.
11:15 Both Ferraris still the running the supersofts at the moment. They did not make the switch to ultras like Mercedes did at the half-way point.
11:10 Max Verstappen is not going to be coming back out in this session as his RB13 undergoes set-up changes.
11:07 We're back underway, but the clock continues to tick down despite the red flag conditions. We have 23 minutes of FP1 remaining.
11:00 Red flag! Celis finds the barrier at the final corner and loses the rear wing completely. He has stopped in a precarious position so out come the flags. Seconds earlier, Raikkonen also went for a spin but his Ferrari is unscathed.
10:53 So an entirely new power unit for Vandoorne broke within a couple of installation laps and needs changing again. The Belgian is already out of his overalls. Same old story for Honda.
10:52 Honda engine change required for Vandoorne: "We detected a potential issue in Stoffel’s PU data. We will change his PU for further investigation but no penalties are expected. We are going to use a spare PU, which is spec 3.7.”
10:49 Bottas goes a full second quicker than Vettel to re-take top spot.
10:47 Lull over. Bottas is back out with some purple ultras strapped on so expect the lap times to continue to tumble.
10:43 We've reached the half-way stage of FP1, which means the usual lull in proceedings as the first set of tyres used are handed back and replaced. Vandoorne still the only driver to set a timed lap, but no news yet as to what the specific problem is.
10:38 It's the usual suspects at the top: 1 - Vettel, 2 - Bottas 3- Verstappen 4 - Hamilton 5 - Raikkonen after a flurry of activity in the last few minutes. Vettel goes quickest in all three sectors to set a new benchmark: 1.18.824.
10:35 Hartley suffered a minor off earlier and has now come to a complete stop at Turn 4. "Engine has gone off," he reports, but he soon gets it going again and the Virtual Safety Car period is a brief one.
10:31 Verstappen briefly went to the top of charts on soft tyres, but Hamilton soon wrestles P1 away from him with a 1:19.373. The track is very busy now with Vandoorne the only driver still in the pits.
10:28 Bottas is back on top of the pile with a 1:19.614, two tenths quicker than Hamilton. Vettel improves to go P3.
10:26 That's more like it from Hamilton. He goes half a second quicker than Bottas to go up to P1. Rival Vettel, also on supersofts, slots in P6.
10:23 A spot of grass-cutting for Hamilton who is still struggling to find grip on this very green track. His first hot lap is six tenths slower than leader Bottas, with home favourite Sergio Perez, on ultras, separating the two Mercs on supersofts.
10:21 As Bottas chops off 2.2 seconds from Giovinazzi's best to go top of the timesheet, news that Gasly is also facing a grid drop after changing the control electronics on his car. That's five places from his qualifying position.
10:18 With Giovinazzi finishing up his first run of the morning, there's action in the garage with Vandoorne, Bottas and Stroll all heading for their out laps.
10:16 Giovinazzi follows up with a 1:24.350 and 1:23.841 in the Haas. He remains the only driver out on track at the moment. Nobody else in any immediate rush to get to work.
10:11 Our first timed lap on the board comes from the Ferrari young buck Giovinazzi with a 1:27.318 on soft tyres. He almost goes two seconds quicker on his next lap.
10:08 Hamilton is the last to complete his installation, needing to remain very patient on the exit of Turn 14 to get back on the throttle. It's slippy out there.
10:05 Most of the drivers have been out for their installation laps on what is a very dusty track that will be lacking a lot of grip in the opening stages.
10:00 A steady queue of cars, headed by the two McLarens, are waiting for the lights to go green. Vandoorne is running the 'Halo', which brings the first sigh of the day.
09:53 No risk of rain in this session but it is a cold start to the day in Mexico City with air temp at 15 degrees and track temperature currently at 29 degrees. Also known as summer in the UK.
09:50 A scattering of reserve drivers will be taking part in this session: Celis Jr replaces Ocon (Force India), Leclerc replaces Ericsson (Sauber), Gelael replaces Gasly (Toro Rosso), Giovinazzi replaces Grosjean (Haas).
09:45 No news yet of any engine penalties for Daniel Ricciardo, who retired early at the United States Grand Prix last weekend. The team were hoping to salvage the power unit and run it until the end of the season despite a loss of oil pressure in Austin.
09:40 As is tradition, we also have news of engine penalties for both Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne at McLaren-Honda. Alonso, who will be racing at Daytona 24 in January, has a 20-place grid drop for new power unit elements; Vandoorne will be behind him as he has a 35-place penalty to contend with.
09:35 We begin with a reminder that Lewis Hamilton can clinch his fourth World Championship title this weekend. All he needs to do is finish P5 or higher, but the Brit wants to grab the silverware in "the right way" and be on top step of the podium come Sunday.
09:30 Hello and welcome to the opening practice session ahead of the Mexican Grand Prix. FP1 gets underway in 30 minutes, with all times stated local.
