01 Oct 10:01 With 20 laps to go, Vettel could make things quite interesting at the top end of the table with the pace he has at the moment
01 Oct 10:00 Bottas sluggish at the moment, this following a good start to the race
01 Oct 09:59 Kimi interviewed outside the race, cannot say what the problem was and hopes for the best

01 Oct 09:55 Positions at the moment.  P1. Verstappen, P2. Hamilton, P3, Ricciardo.
01 Oct 09:54 Following Hamilton's pit stop, he seems to have closed the gap on Verstappen quite considerably. Things could get interesting from here on in.
01 Oct 09:53 Sainz out. This after experiencing a lack of power
01 Oct 09:52 Vettel on supersofts, completes a fastest lap time on lap 30
FINISH Thank you for your company today and do join us again next week for the Japanese GP. Cheers.
FINISH We have to leave on that note though. Sure both Vettel and Stroll will get called to the stewards' office, but we have to go.
FINISH What a bizarre finish. Wehrlein still has Vettel on the side of his car. That's something that the FIA doesn't take too kindly to.
FINISH While Red Bull and Hamilton are celebrating, a few rain drops are appearing. Vettel is still fuming.
FINISH By the way, it was Wehrlein who gave Vettel a lift back to parc ferme.
FINISH Who crashed into who after the chequered flag? That is the big question.
FINISH Massive, massive damage to Ferrari car. He takes out his steering wheel and hands it to Ericsson, who has stopped to give him a lift.
FINISH Vettel is nursing his car to the pits with one wheel on his car. That is not a mistake. Vettel is fuming at Stroll.
FINISH 'Happy birthday mate,' is the message from the Red Bull after Verstappen crossed teh finish line.
FINISH Perez, Vandoorne, Stroll, Massa and Ocon complete the top 10.
FINISH Hamilton finishes P2 and he will extend his lead over Vettel. Ricciardo makes it a double podium for Red Bull with Vettel fourth and Bottas P5.
FINISH Max Verstappen wins the Malaysian Grand Prix. His sister is in tears in the Red Bull garage. It's the Dutchman's second grand prix win!
Lap 56 Horner looks a bit nervous, but Verstappen is nearly home and dry.
Lap 56 Final lap and Gasly is getting race as he has a go at Grosjean, but there is no way through.
Lap 55 Alonso is in P11, but he is six seconds behind Ocon.
Lap 55 Here's your top 10: Verstappen, Hamilton, Ricciardo, Vettel, Bottas, Perez, Vandoorne, Stroll, Massa and Ocon.
Lap 54 This will be the first time that Red Bull have two cars on the podium since last year's Malaysian Grand Prix.
Lap 54 Ricciardo is told that 'Vettel's spirit has been broken as he has been told to look after his tyres. Good job, mate'.
Lap 53 The Dutch fans in the stands are starting to celebrate as Verstappen is a couple of laps away from his second race victory.
Lap 52 Vettel is now dropping off the Red Bull of Ricciardo. So that message to the German makes a bit more sense now. It looks like that was his one and only chance.
Lap 51 Verstappen has an eight second lead over Hamilton, who in turn is 11s ahead of Ricciardo.
Lap 51 Ricciardo is now 1.2s ahead of Vettel again. Has the Ferrari man's chance come and gone?
Lap 50 Hamilton looks to be safe in P2. And now there's a Force India between Ricciardo and Vettel.
Lap 49 Vettel is told 'attack now, attack now'. Not like he wasn't attacking already.
Lap 49 Ricciardo was weaving around a bit.
Lap 49 Alonso eventually moves out the way and Vettel can now have a go at Vettel. He tries on the inside, but Ricciardo cuts him off.
Lap 48 Hahaha...Vettel's reply is 'come on Alonso'. That was a bit naughty from the Spaniard.
Lap 48 Vettel gets right behind Ricciardo at the final turn, but they now have Alonso between them.
Lap 47 Verstappen looking good for his second F1 race win. It will only be the second time he has been on the podium this season though.
Lap 46 Vettel is still lapping roughly one second faster than Hamilton, who is nine seconds ahead of him track. First he needs to get past Ricciardo though.
Lap 46 Ricciardo is told that 'next car behind you is Vettel and he is racing for a podium'. DRS zone here we come.
Lap 45 Vettel will be within one second of Ricciardo in a few seconds.
Lap 45 Outside the top four battle, you have Bottas driving a lonely race in fifth place and behind him are Perez, Vandroone, Stroll Massa and Ocon.
Lap 44 Verstappen leads by 9s over Hamilton, who still has a 7.6s buffer to Ricciardo.
Lap 43 Ricciardo is told that Vettel is flying and 'he will be with you in four or five laps'. 'Keep pushing.'
Lap 42 And yet another fastest lap from Vettel and the gap to Ricciardo is down to 4.6s.
Lap 42 Ricciardo can see the Ferrari of Vettel in his mirrors in the home straight. Hulkenberg is told that 'stopping is not an option'.
Lap 41 Vettel to finish on the podium? He is looking good at the moment. He would set a record if he achieves it as no one has finished on the podium after starting outside the top 10.
Lap 40 A new lap record of 1:34.218 from Vettel.
Lap 40 Magnussen reports he has damage on the car after Palmer incident, the team tells him 'we don't see anything on our side'. "What a ****ing lunatic," was Magnussen's report after Palmer touched him.
Lap 39 Vettel is now 7.6s behind Ricciardo, who is 7s behind Hamilton.
Lap 39 Palmer and Magnussen touch, but luckily for Verstappen he managed to overtake them without getting caught up in it.
Lap 38 Palmer has a little spin and he drops a couple of places. He is now fighting with Magnussen. Verstappen has caught up with this srap and he needs to stay clear.
Lap 38 Ricciardo is told that he is quicker than the two cars ahead of him, Verstappen and Hamilton, but he is eight seconds adrift of the Mercedes in second place.
Lap 37 Verstappen is looking good for the win here, but the way his luck has been going this season you wouldn't rule out something dramatic happening.
Lap 37 Vettel is lapping more than a second faster than Hamilton.
Lap 36 No investigation needed over the Alonso-Magnussen incident.
Lap 36 Ricciardo is given the hurry-up as he is told he is quicker than Hamilton.
Lap 35 Fastest lap of 1:34.371 from Vettel. He is 11s behind Ricciardo.
Lap 35 At the front, Verstappen is flying again and the lead over Hamilton is nearly eight seconds while Ricciardo is 10s behind the Mercedes.
Lap 34 Meanwhile, Massa pushes Ocon onto the grass again. The incident between Alonso and Magnussen has been noted.
Lap 33 There was contact between Alonso and Magnussen, but nothing major. And of course Alonso will have something to say 'what an idiot', 'Hulkenberg is right'.
Lap 33 Vettel is lapping quicker than Hamilton, but there is a Red Bull in between them. Magnussen-Alonso in the DRS zone as the Spaniard dives on the inside, but the Dane is not giving up. However, Alonso is too classy and he gets the place. That place we are talking about is P13.
Lap 32 Ocon has not given up on P9 as he continues to push Massa. Here's Alonso on Magnussen, but the McLaren driver is not close enough. Not yet anyway.
Lap 31 At the front, Verstappen has a 6s lead over Hamilton, who in turn is 12s ahead of Ricciardo while Vettel is another 13s adrift.
Lap 31 A Force India is on the grass, not like that though. Ocon tries to muscle past Massa, but the veteran gives him no space and he finds his tyres on the grass. No harm done though.
Lap 30 The Toro Rosso of Sainz is going very slowly around the track. He pits and it looks like that is that for the Spaniard.
Lap 30 Ricciardo pits for soft tyres and Verstappen retakes the lead. The Aussie came out in P3, ahead of Perez who is yet to pit.
Lap 29 So Hamilton and Vettel are on different tyres for the final stint. Well Vettel will be the only one on the supersofts for the final stint as he started on the softs.
Lap 29 Bottas is the latest to pit and he comes out behind Vettel.
Lap 29 Vettel rejoined in P6, behind Perez.
Lap 28 We have reached the halfway stage of this race. Ricciardo is told he needs to extend his lead after his team-mate pitted.
Lap 28 Verstappen rejoins in P2, just behind his team-mate Ricciardo, who is yet to pit. And now Vettel pits.
Lap 28 We have a Red Bull in the pits and it's race leader Verstappen.
Lap 27 This is good from Bottas so far, if you are a Mercedes fan, that is. He has managed to hold up Vettel long enough for Hamilton to rejoin ahead. Good team work.
Lap 27 ...P3, just ahead of the Bottas-Vettel scrap.
Lap 27 The Mercedes mechanics are in the pit lane and Hamilton ducks into the pits. Clean stop and he rejoins in...
Lap 26 Further up the track and Vettel is all over the back of Bottas. He tries to go inside at Turn 4, but Bottas closes the door.
Lap 26 Ocon and Sainz made contact during their battle over P8.
Lap 26 And we have someone off track. Yellow flags as Ocon has had a spin. He manages to turn the car around and is back on the track.
Lap 25 Big lock-up from Hamilton, but he didn't lose too much time.
Lap 24 It's Ocon on Sainz, but the Toro Rosso man holds firm.
Lap 24 The gap between Bottas and Vettel is now just over one second. Hamilton still has a five-second lead over Ricciardo.
Lap 23 Hamilton is also asked for feedback and he reports 'tyres are okay, they are level 3'.
Lap 23 Red Bull tell Verstappen that they are happy with the tyres at this stage.
Lap 22 Vettel is 3.1s behind Bottas. Merc need Bottas to hold up Vettel.
Lap 22 Verstappen holds an eight-second lead over Hamilton, who in turn is five seconds clear of Ricciardo. Toto Wolff is looking a bit worried in the Merc garage, but then again he always looks worried during races.
Lap 21 Vettel is up to P5 as he makes a move on Perez that sticks on the home straight/DRS zone. The Mexican tries to fight back, but it's not good enough.
Lap 21 It's been a brilliant drive from Vettel so far, but this is his first real challenge as Perez has a Merc engine.
Lap 20 Perez has radio problems and Vettel is now right on his rear. They are battling over P5. Vettel is 22-23s behind Hamilton, who is P2.
Lap 20 Wehrlein loses another couple of places as Hulkenberg and Palmer pass him in the space of two corners.
Lap 19 It is getting a dark again. Rain on the horizon?
Lap 19 The Saubers are going backwards here as Magnussen steams past Wehrlein, who is P14. Hulkenberg is now also lining up the Wehrlein.
Lap 18 Oh, Ericsson also hasn't pitted. He is stuck in P18 as new kid Gasly passes him.
Lap 18 The top eight plus Wehrlein are yet to stop.
Lap 18 Ricciardo has reported that his tyres are going and it means Hamilton has managed to stabilise his lead over the Red Bull driver.
Lap 18 Vettel is now flying and he's just three seconds behind Perez, who is fifth. The Force India man can see the Ferrari in his mirrors on the straight.
Lap 17 If you are wondering who is propping up the pack, it's Grosjean with Gasly and Ericsson just ahead of him. Meamwhile, Massa gets ahead of Wehrlein.
Lap 16 The gap between Hamilton and Vettel is now 5.4s while Verstappen has 7s advantage at the front.
Lap 15 Stroll went in between Massa and Vandoorne, but the latter fought back and is now P10.
Lap 14 Vettel picks up another place as Vandoorne pits from P6. Vandoorne rejoins just ahead of the Stroll-Massa battle. Stroll managed to get ahead of Massa while all eyes were on Vandoorne.
Lap 14 Vettel is now P7 after Stroll was forced to pit. The Canadian rejoined behind his team-mate Massa, who is P13.
Lap 13 Hamilton has been warned that Vettel may be a threat by the end of the race. The Ferrari driver is 23s behind his Championship rival. Hamilton is lapping in the 1:36.8s while Vettel is still doing 1:37.1s.
Lap 13 Stroll reports that the 'rear is starting to go'.
Lap 12 Massa pits and that allows Vettel to move up to P8. The second Williams of Stroll is ahead of him on the track.
Lap 12 As Verstappen increases his lead to five seconds with another fastest lap, Ricciardo closes the gap to Hamilton to 6.7s.
Lap 12 Vettel is now putting pressure on Massa in eighth place.
Lap 11 New man (or is that new kid?) is down in P13.
Lap 11 Verstappen's gap is 3.7s over Hamilton while Ricciardo is 7.3s adrift of the Mercedes driver.
Lap 10 While all that was going on at the front, Vettel is into the top 10 after getting past not only Alonso, but also Magnussen.
Lap 9 Ricciardo tries to muscle his way past Bottas, but the Mercedes man holds firm as they go wheel-to-wheel. Not for long though the Red Bull driver finally makes it stick at Turn 4. Good, clean, exciting racing there.
Lap 8 Perez is up to P5 after passing Vandoorne at Turn 4. The McLaren was sliding all over the place and the Force India man took full advantage.
Lap 8 Ricciardo is still within DRS range of Bottas, but he is not close enough to make a move.
Lap 8 Verstappen has built a 2.2s lead over Hamilton while Ricciardo is still stuck behind Bottas.
Lap 7 Vettel is still stuck behind Alonso, who is all over the back of Magnussen in P9. He has a look on the outside, but the door closes.
Lap 6 Actually Raikkonen is no longer in the garage, he has changed into his shorts and walking down the pit lane. He is going for an ice cream. Joking, not about the shorts and walking down the pit lane, but about the ice cream.
Lap 6 Aaand Raikkonen is still in the Ferrari garage.
Lap 6 So it is Verstappen from Hamilton, Bottas, Ricciardo, Vandoorne, Perez, Stroll, Massa, Magnussen, Alonso.
Lap 5 Hamilton is now looking to regain the lead, but Verstappen holds firm. He doesn't need to take any risks, considering there is a title on the line.
Lap 5 Hamilton told the team he was struggling with the battery 'd-rate'.
Lap 4 Fastest lap from Verstappen and the Dutchman goes on the inside of Hamilton and gets P1. And now Ricciardo is all over the back of Bottas.
Lap 4 Change in the lead.
Lap 4 Vandoorne is still P5.
Lap 3 Ocon made contact with Massa at Turn 2, actually.
Lap 3 An early pit stop for Ocon. He made contact with someone at Turn 1 on the opening lap.
Lap 3 Vettel is up to P12 and he is now chasing Alonso.
Lap 2 Hamilton leads from Verstappen, Bottas, Ricciardo, Vandoorne, Perez, Ocon and Stroll.
Lap 2 Raikkonen is still in the pits, by the way.
Lap 2 Vettel is stuck behind Palmer in P13. Hulkenberg goes off track and Vettel manages to get past Palmer. Vettel now tangles with Hulkenberg. Not that kind of tangle.
Lap 1 Vandoorne is up to P5 while Perez is just behind him after a smooth move past Ocon.
Lap 1 Lights go out at Sepang and Hamilton is away cleanly with Verstappen and Ricciardo slipping in behind. Bottas has a good start and he goes on the outside of Ricciardo and is up to P3. He is blocked by Verstappen, but he's not giving up. The Dutchman holds firm though.
15:00 Here's an update on the tyres. The top 17 are all on supersofts while the other three, including Vettel, are on the softs.
15:00 It is a lonely Hamilton on the front row of the grid and he leads the pack, minus Raikkonen, around the track for the formation lap. They are all away cleanly, well not Raikkonen, but you knew that.
14:58 Ocon reports that the right-hand side is quite damp, but Ricciardo says 'it is drying up quite nicely'.
14:57 So it's Vettel at the back of the grid and Raikkonen in the pit lane. Vettel tells the team 'obviously last car on the grid, you don't need to tell me'.
14:57 He's still in the car, but it's back to the Ferrari garage. Meanwhile, Hamilton has cold air sprayed into his car.
14:56 Oh dear! Raikkonen's car is being pushed back to the pit lane.
14:55 Just a quick weather update and some say there is a 30% chance of rain during the race, some say 40% and some even suggest 50%. We don't know, we'll just go with there is a chance of rain. We like sitting on the fence.
14:53 Ferrari 'think and hope' they have fixed the problem (a turbo issue) and don't think it's the same issue that affected Vettel on Saturday.
14:51 'The battery is just empty,' was what Raikkonen said and they are still working on the car.
14:48 Oh yes, we had a flyover after the national anthem. Thought you'd like to know.
14:47 Back to Raikkonen and Ferrari have taken the cover off and they are inspecting things a little closer.
14:45 Time for the Malaysian national anthem, Negaraku, which means My Country in Malay.
14:44 Jittery moments for Ferrari as Raikkonen seems to have an issue with his car's battery. We'll tell you more as soon as we find out a bit more.
14:42 Interesting stat, Hamilton has won the last eight rain-affected races.
14:40 Vandoorne says we'll see a dry start. 'It's still a bit damp, but it's drying up and we should be able to start on slicks.'
14:35 The track is still pretty damp and Red Bull have decided to 'hold back, according to Christian Horner' as they want to see what others are doing first.
14:32 Hamilton and the two Ferraris are among the first to head out. Vettel, and quite a few other drivers, are on the inters.
14:30 Aaaaaaand the pit lane is now open.
14:27 The driver who wins today will win the last Malaysian Grand Prix, well for the time being at least as this is the final race. After 19 editions, the race will disappear from the calendar next year. Poor attendances meant the track was running at a loss and the circuit boss has admitted it will be 'at least five years' before they even consider returning.
14:23 Vettel has won this race four times, three as a Red Bull drive and once with Ferrari, while Hamilton has tasted victory here only once. As for the rest of the grid, only Raikkonen, Alonso and Ricciardo have won here before with the latter claiming P1 last year.
14:20 Despite starting at the back of the grid, Vettel is confident he can get back to the leading group. Tough ask, but he is driving a Ferrari after all and he isn't a five-time World Champion for nothing.
14:16 A weather update for you. The sun is coming out and the track is starting to dry out.
14:13 What about new kid on the block Pierre Gasly? It was an impressive start from the rookie as he will start P15, next to his more experienced Toro Rosso team-mate Carlos Sainz.
14:11 Back to the grid and we have two McLarens in the top 10 with Stoffel Vandoorne P6 and Fernando Alonso P10. In between them are Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez.
14:09 With Hamilton P1, where is his main title rival? Well, Sebastian Vettel will start at the back of the grid after he lost drive in Q1. The team later fitted a fifth new engine and he will start at the back of the grid.
14:06 If you are wondering where the Red Bull drivers are starting, they are on the second row of the grid with Verstappen slightly ahead in P3. Ahead of them they have pole-sitter Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen. Behind them you have Valterri Bottas and Esteban Ocon.
14:04 Red Bull duo Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo are no doubt hoping for some downpours during the race as they both feel they have the pace to be quick in the wet.
14:02 Let's give you some good news first up. The Sepang International Circuit is a bit wet at the moment as there was rain this morning. Nothing at the moment, but there is a 30% chance of rain during the race.
14:00 Good afternoon, good morning, or even good night wherever you are in the world. This is the Malaysian GP, round 15 of the 2017 F1 World Championship, and all times are local.
18:04 Top 10 in full: Hamilton, Raikkonen, Verstappen, Ricciardo, Bottas, Ocon, Vandoorne, Hulkenberg, Perez, Alonso. Vettel, if you missed it a little earlier, will start dead last after engine problems. Join us again tomorrow for race day!
18:03 Kimi misses out by just 0.045 seconds! Wow that was close! But it's Hamilton on pole for a fourth straight year in Malaysia. It's also the 70th pole of his career!
18:02 Hamilton can't improve, here comes Raikkonen...
18:01 Bottas only fifth fastest!
18:00 Nobody is getting close to Hamilton!
17:59 Ricciardo the first to launch his last attack. Hamilton, meanwhile, feels he is suffering from a lack of power but the garage can't see anything amiss.
17:57 Cars are heading back out for the final hot laps...
17:56 So Hamilton found nine tenths on his best time in Q2 and he still has one more hot lap to come. Can anyone stop the Brit landing another pole in Malaysia.
17:55 Perez, Ocon, Vandoorne and Alonso come two-by-two after that, with Hulkenberg still in the pits and yet to set a time.
17:54 Verstappen drops into P4 after a scruffy end to his lap. Bottas is eight tenths off his team-mate in P5.
17:52 Raikkonen gets to within two tenths in P2, with Ricciardo half a second back in P3.
17:51 Oh lordy - a 1:30.0 dead for Hamilton. Talk about turning the wick up!
17:48 Green lights! Here we go!
17:46 Given how Q1 and Q2 have gone, the battle for pole is wide open - even without the very notable absentee Sebastian Vettel. Bottas, Hamilton, Raikkonen and Verstappen look the most competitive.
10:43 Out in Q2: Massa, Palmer, Stroll, Sainz, Gasly.
10:42 Alonso squeaks into the top 10 shoot-out, joining Vandoorne too!
10:40 Bottas goes quickest with 1:30.8, knocking Kimi off top spot.
10:38 Raikkonen is staying firmly in the garage, saving himself now for Q3.
10:36 Movement in the pit lane again. Bottas leads the pack back out on track.
10:32 All 15 drivers have a hot lap banked with Vandoorne, Perez, Sainz, Gasly and Stroll in the elimination zone. A brief respite now before the final Q2 runs.
10:31 Good pace once again, though, from Verstappen. He's up to P2 just 0.005s off Kimi's best.
10:30 But Raikkonen shaves off 0.083 seconds from Hamilton to take P1.
10:29 Hamilton and Bottas are both on the supersofts now, with the former going two tenths quicker than his team-mate.
10:27 Those dark clouds are getting ever closer. Rain toward the end of Q3 perhaps?
10:25 Back on track, Q2 is underway with the two Mercedes cars among the first to show. We''ll lose another five drivers in this session ahead of the top 10 shoot-out.
10:23 Well, well, well. Sebastian Vettel's World Championship bid has taken another huge blow after that shock Q1 exit. Now he is starting at the back of the grid, he will probably take brand new power unit elements with no further damage done.
17:17 Joining Vettel in the elimination zone are: Grosjean, Magnussen, Wehrlein, Ericsson.
17:15 No! He's not coming out! He was waiting for a gap but after going through the engine revs it sounded very poorly. Vettel will start dead last tomorrow.
17:14 All of a sudden, Vettel is back in the car and ready to be released. Are they doing this in hope rather than expectation that the turbo issue is fixed.
17:13 Meanwhile, it's all cool and calm for Hamilton and Mercedes. He is out of the car and out of the garage, happy with his work so far.
17:12 Elimination zone with five minutes remaining: Gasly, Wehrlein, Grosjean, Ericsson, Vettel.
17:11 A few worried faces in the Ferrari garage. It doesn't look like Vettel is going to be able to set a time...
17:10 The top four quickest times so far have all been set on the 'slower' soft tyre. Ricciardo, in P5, leads the rest of the field who have all opted for supersofts.
17:09 Pretty encouraging start for Verstappen as he narrows the gap to Hamilton to three tenths. He also has the soft tyres strapped on.
17:08 Big improvement from Hamilton, who finds an extra six tenths on Raikkonen to re-take top spot. 1:31.605 the new benchmark.
17:07 Oh dear, issues for Vettel who comes back into the pits straight after his out-lap. "I feel like I have no turbo," he reports. 11 minutes left of the session remaining...
17:06 Bottas also finds himself a tenth down on Raikkonen and slots into P3 with his first showing. He also has the yellow-striped tyre on.
17:05 Raikkonen is also on the softs and goes a tenth quicker than Hamilton to take P1 for now.
17:04 Here comes Hamilton with his first hot lap on soft tyres. It's a 1:32.380 for the Brit.
17:02 And out comes Vettel on track with that new engine fitted. A huge sigh of relief for Ferrari fans.
17:00 Here we go, the light goes green for Q1. Five drivers will be eliminated in this 18-minute session.
16:55 It's dry and bright as we head into the evening at Sepang. However there are some rather threatening clouds rolling in which could throw this qualifying session wide open.
16:50 Still a bit of a scramble around Vettel's car, trying to get it ready for Q1. Time is ticking...
16:45 Max Verstappen and Jolyon Palmer got into a bit of a tangle at the end of FP3. The former picked up a puncture and the latter a broken front wing, but the stewards have decided to take no further action after taking a closer look at the incident.
16:40 While Vettel's fourth engine has been introduced a little earlier than he would have liked, this upgraded power unit gives him another 10 HP which will come in very handy today.
16:34 On paper it looked like another very positive practice session for Ferrari after a 1-2 in FP3 earlier this afternoon. However, an electronics issue means Sebastian Vettel has had to change to his last penalty-free engine of the season with six races to go.
16:30 Hello and welcome to the qualifying session for the Malaysian Grand Prix. Q1 gets underway in 30 minutes.
15:01 That's it. Join us in two hours for qualifying for the Malaysian GP. Cheers
15:00 So that's it, a rather dramatic end to FP3 which sees Raikkonen quickest, Vettel with an engine issue and Verstappen/Palmer crashing into each other.
14:59 Verstappen is spinning and has a puncture. "He hit me" is his assessment after contact with Palmer.
14:56 Troubles for Vettel who is told to slow down, and "come in the garage" as he very slowly makes his way back to the pits. Not good.
14:55 Wehrlein and Magnussen have a close encounter that involves a lot of hand waving but no contact.
14:53 Magnussen is back out on track after his earlier engine issue. He improves to 11th place.
14:51 Haas are courting trouble as Grosjean is lapping with a seriously flat spotted front left tyre.
14:49 It is rather hot out there for the drivers with the track temperature having climbed to 51'C.
14:45 Gasly has a smoky moment in the pits but Toro Rosso don't seem overly concerned.
14:43 Ricciardo tells Red Bull that it "didn't feel like I had much power" but he's told that everything is okay with his RB13.
14:39 Although Hamilton put in personal bests in the first and second sectors, he stays P5.
14:38 "Brake went to the floor" is Palmer's rather distressing comment as he goes off at the final corner. That's never good.
14:37 Raikkonen is purple in the first sector, Vettel in the third. The German goes P1 and Raikkonen takes it off him. A 1:31.8 for Raikkonen with Vettel 0.162 down.
14:36 Both Vettel and Raikkonen has left the Ferrari garage on new sets of supersoft tyres. Hamilton follows them out.
14:32 A personal best for Bottas puts him up into second place, 0.2s down on Ricciardo.
14:30 Change at the top as Ricciardo goes quickest with a 1:32.091.
14:26 Trouble for Magnussen who is told to slow down and head back to the Haas garage.
14:23 A spin for Alonso out of the final corner is the most dramatic moment of this session so far.
14:22 Told that there is a threat of rain in the surrounding areas, Hamilton posts a new fastest time - a 1:32.539.
14:21 Massa is losing bits of bodywork, yip that was a chunk of his FW40's bargeboard that went flying.
14:18 Massa is out on track and locking up so that's good news, well the out on track part. He flies by Hamilton who is doing a really really slow cool down lap before launching another attack on the timesheets.
14:17 Bottas, who is using Mercedes' new package, is 0.4s down on his team-mate.
14:15 Impressively the top three - Hamilton, Raikkonen and Vettel - are all separated by just 0.036s.
14:13 Vettel has closed the gap on Raikkonen to 0.021s but it is Hamilton who goes quickest with a 1:32.650. He is running the old spec aero package.
14:12 After his five-lap run Raikkonen is back in the pits and still holding down P1 ahead of Vettel. Bottas is back up to third place.
14:11 The only driver yet to put in a single lap is Felipe Massa, who remains in the Williams garage.
14:10 Vettel moves up to second place, 0.2s down on Raikkonen, with Verstappen up to third place ahead of Bottas and Hamilton.
14:07 Vettel reports a piece of plastic stuck to his tyre as it is getting busy out there with over half the field putting in laps.
14:06 Bottas, running Mercedes' new aero package, goes second.
14:05 Gasly's time is blitzed by Raikkonen with a 1:32.6. He's on the supersoft tyres.
14:04 Gasly and Grosjean have both stayed out on track with a 1:37.0 for the Toro Rosso driver. He reports "oversteer" adding that the "rear is really unstable."
14:01 Gasly is the first man out followed by the Saubers of Marcus Ericsson and Pascal Wehrlein, Alonso, Romain Grosjean in his repaired Haas, Kevin Magnussen and Stoffel Vandoorne.
14:00 Green light and off we go with the drivers looking to make up for time lost in the rain and red flags from Friday.
13:55 Five minutes to the start of this hour-long session...
13:48 A dry start to today's play, however, there is some rain forecast for later. Track temperature is 45'C and the air temp is 31'C.
13:44 Sergio Perez, Nico Hulkenberg and Esteban Ocon completed the top ten while Pierre Gasly, making his F1 debut with Toro Rosso, was P15, 0.05s up on Carlos Sainz.
13:39 Mercedes did not have a good day at the track as Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas were P6 and P7, both 1.4s off the pace. Toto Wolff said something was "fundamentally" wrong, however, as Mercedes have shown in the past, they have the calibre to fight back - expect that!
13:36 Friday's practice belonged to Ferrari as Sebastian Vettel set the pace with a new lap record, beating his team-mate Kimi Raikkonen. A 1:31.261 for the German with Raikkonen 0.604s off the pace. Daniel Ricciardo was third ahead of Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard sported McLaren's updates on his MCL32 which team boss Eric Boullier hailed in the wake of his 1:32.564.
13;30 Welcome back to the Sepang circuit for the third and final practice session for the Malaysian Grand Prix. All times are local.
16:20 And there's confirmation...the session will not be restarted. Join us again tomorrow for another hectic day with FP3 and qualifying.
16:15 That could be the end of the session as all the other drain covers now need to be checked. We're in red flag conditions and the clock is still ticking down.
16:12 It looks like he went over a drain cover, initially made loose by Raikkonen seconds before, and his rear tyre exploded. He skidded off the track and got a hefty shunt into the wall for his troubles. He gets out of the car and into the medical vehicle.
16:11 Red flags! Romain Grosjean has crashed out! This is becoming quite a regular occurrence for the Frenchman.
16:04 Both Ferrari cars and both Mercedes cars are back out on track after another quick dip back into the garages. Judging by the early sector times they look to be concentrating on some high fuel runs now.
16:00 Just to highlight Mercedes' lack of pace, even Alonso has got ahead and up to P4! 30 minutes of the session remaining.
15:49 We're on board with Hamilton and he is suffering from a lot of understeer. He crosses the line and it's only good enough for P5 - also 1.4 seconds off the pace.
15:47 Bottas, with the supersofts attached, is still over a second off the pace set by Vettel. Taking it easy or indicative that the Merc is still struggling with balance issues? Guess we'll find out!
15:42 Tough conditions out there still as Ericsson goes off Turn 9 and Stroll hits the bollard on the last corner after flat-spotting his tyre.
15:40 The Ferraris are quickly back on top again as Vettel sets a 1:31.261 - six tenths quicker than Raikkonen. Hamilton and Bottas have had a dust down after their offs and are ready to get some quick laps in themselves.
15:37 Verstappen is up to P3 but is another who is complaining about a lot of oversteer. Back into the garage he goes for a few tweaks.
15:35 Ricciardo goes top of the pile after taking three tenths off Vettel's best with the supersofts. Don't think Ferrari will be too worried about that as both Scuderia drivers head back out to post their replies.
15:32 "Undriveable. This thing is giving me so much oversteer," bemoans Carlos Sainz after becoming the latest driver to go off track.
15:30 Plenty of drivers now switching to the supersofts for some qualifying simulation runs, so expect those lap times to tumble.
15:23 And now Hamilton is off too! He loses the back end through Turn 7 and Turn 8 and is into the gravel trap. He's able to get going again, though, and joins his team-mate back in the pits for a check over.
15:20 A close shave for Bottas, too, at Turn 10 as he takes too much kerb and is spat out over the gravel trap. He just about stops himself from flying into the wall and nurses the car back to the pits.
15;18 A big lock-up from Jolyon Palmer at the final corner and he narrowly avoids the marker bollard.
15:16 Vettel breaks the track record previously set by Fernando Alonso in 2005 with a 1:32.566.
15:15 Everyone is on the soft tyre to begin with, bar Massa (SS), (Stroll (SS), Alonso (SS), Vandoorne (SS) and Sainz (M).
15:12 There's a whole lot of smoke coming out of Gasly's Toro Rosso in the pit lane, but it is quickly under control. Good to get some practice in before the Honda partnership starts next year.
15:10 Verstappen was half a second up on Raikkonen through the first sector, but goes on to shave 0.097s off the Finn's best.
15:05 Lap times are already pretty competitive with Raikkonen posting a 1:33.486 to go top of the standings; Vettel three tenths behind.
15:00 Green lights. The Sauber garage are quick out of the blocks with Marcus Ericsson and Pascal Wehrlein the first to show...
14:55 As a result, we'll be seeing the slick tyres for the first time this weekend. Mediums, softs and supersofts are available.
14:50 There is still plenty of cloud around in Sepang, but it is dry for now and the risk of rain has reduced to 60 per cent over the next 90 minutes.
14:46 Fernando Alonso, meanwhile, is looking to make a "final decision" on his future by mid-October, before the United States Grand Prix. Hallelujah!
14:41 It looks set to be swapped with the Bahrain Grand Prix next year, though, subject to approval from the FIA's World Sport Council.
14:38 A little bit of breaking news in the interval, with the Chinese Grand Prix signing a new three-year deal to stay on the F1 calendar until at least 2020.
14:35 Test drivers Sergei Sirotkin, Sean Galael (P14), Charles Leclerc (P16) and Antonio Giovinazzi (P19) will all be making way for the rest of the regular grid this afternoon.
14:34 Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel were P4 and P5 respectively, with the two Mercs of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas directly behind.
14:33 Fernando Alonso was in the lofty heights of P3, with debutant Pierre Gasly inside the top 10 for Toro Rosso.
14:32 There was not too much in the way of running in FP1 due to the thundery showers which are set to linger around all weekend long, but Max Verstappen led an early Red Bull 1-2.

14:30 Hello and welcome back to Sepang for FP2. The session will get underway in 30 minutes.
12:32 That's it for now, join us two hours for FP2 for the Malaysian GP. Cheers.
12:31 A last lap from both Ferrari drivers with Vettel up to from ninth to fifth with Raikkonen fourth.
12:30 The chequered flag is out on FP1 which ends with a dominant Red Bull 1-2, Verstappen ahead of Ricciardo. Alonso is third.
12:27 The rain is a great leveller as Alonso goes third, 1.6s down.
12:24 Verstappen replaces Ricciardo at the top of the timesheets with a 1:48.962, Hamilton is up to third.
12:23 Gasly is up to seventh place as the track continues to dry out. Leclerc is P14, four-tenths up on Wehrlein.
12:19 Wehrlein adds his name to the list of those getting it wrong as he "locks the front" and cuts the grass.
12:17 McLaren have removed the Halo from Alonso's car and the Spaniard is getting ready to venture back out.
12:16 Ricciardo ups his pace to 1:49.7, Verstappen is back out on track, Bottas goes third, Sirotkin is up to seventh, Gasly improves to 13th with Leclerc, Giovinazzi and Gelael slowest of all.
12:14 Stroll finds some pace in the wet - not for the first time this season - and goes third quickest.
12:11 More rain coming down, which isn't great for McLaren as three mechanics are in the pit box trying to dry the asphalt.
12:10 Vettel in the gravel as he fails to slow for the corner and instead crunches his way through the kitty litter.
12:09 All 20 drivers excluding Alonso and Massa have set times.
12:07 Ricciardo is on a flier, purple in the first two sectors, and shaves 0.007s off his team-mate's time to go quickest of all.
12:06 Verstappen goes P1 with a 1:51.2 and heads back into the pits. Ricciardo is second ahead of Vettel, Raikkonen and Hamilton.
12:03 A spin for Sirotkin down at Turn 2. He is able to continue on his way. Moments later he is told that tyre temps are low so he should expect some "grip problems" at the moment.
12:01 Vettel goes quickest now, 1.1s up on Ricciardo.
11:59 And we have a lap time, a 1:55.6 for Ricciardo.
11:58 Vettel takes to the track on a set of intermediate while Ricciardo starts a second lap. We finally have drivers amassing two or more laps! Raikkonen, Alonso, Verstappen, Hamilton and Bottas are also out.
11:55 Ricciardo heads out onto the circuit with a set of inters on his Red Bull racer.
11:52 Franz Tost believes F1 needs more tyres, that's allocation not compound. "One set of inters and two full wets" is his order, please Pirelli.
11:51 Perez is on the inters - and off the track.
11:48 And with that Ocon heads out in his bright pink Force India. That car at least brings some colour to the track on this gloomy day. Perez follows him out.
11:46 Not a single car out on track at the moment as the teams look to converse tyres.
11:39 One by one the drivers head out for installation laps, and one by one they return to the pits. Still waiting for both Force India drivers, the Red Bull lads and the Mercedes team-mates.
11:36 And there he goes, car number '10', Pierre Gasly the F1 race driver.
11:35 Leclerc, Sirotkin and Giovinazzi all take to the circuit. Doesn't look as if Hamilton will be running any time soon as he is having a good laugh with his mechanics instead of suiting up.
11:33 Raikkonen reports some "hesitation" with his mapping and returns to the Ferrari garage.
11:32 The two Ferraris, both involved in the first lap crash in Singapore, are the next out as Vettel and Raikkonen put in an installation lap to check that everything is okay with their cars.
11:31 First out is Fernando Alonso on full wets with the Halo bolted onto his MCL32.
11:30 Green light and off we go...
11:28 Gasly is in the STR11, two minutes away from his first official run as a Formula 1 race driver. Exciting times!
11:25 Vettel is already in his SF70H, waiting the start of FP1.
11:20 Great news with race control announcing that FP1 will begin in 10 minutes so we'll have an hour of running.
11:17 Just a reminder that the clock is counting down on FP1 due to time constraints.
11:11 Williams tech chief Paddy Lowe says even when this session gets underway there won't be much coming from Lance Stroll and Felipe Massa due to the limited number of intermediate and wet tyres.
11:06 More laps from the Safety Car and it is struggling to get on the power such is the standing water.
11:02 Great news we have a car out on track, not so great news is that it is the Safety Car and those wipers are working hard, so too are the tyres. It is rather, okay very, wet out there.
11:00 This is the moment that FP1 should have begun but alas, it is "chucking down" right now - Force India's words, not mine.
10:56 Well now there it is, the start of FP1 has been delayed "indefinitely due to weather conditions." That would be rain by the way, not baking hot sunshine.
10:51 While it was just drizzling earlier it is really coming down now. The teams are limited with their full wets and inters so it could be a rather quiet session this morning.
10:46 A quick look at the standings and it seems as if this is now Lewis Hamilton's title to lose. Winning all three races since F1 returned form the summer break, the Mercedes driver is 28 points ahead of Sebastian Vettel with Valtteri Bottas a further 23 off the pace. However, one DNF from the Brit could change all that.
10:41 Gasly, though, isn't the only youngster in action this morning. Sean Gelael is in for Carlos Sainz at Toro Rosso while Sergey Sirotkin will run the Renault RS17. Meanwhile Charles Leclerc is back in action for Sauber, replacing Marcus Ericsson for the session, as the GP2 driver continues his push towards a 2018 race-seat. His main rival for a Sauber seat, Antonio Giovinazzi, will test for Haas.
10:39 The big news ahead of this weekend's grand prix is that Pierre Gasly is racing for Toro Rosso in place of Daniil Kvyat. The team have given him a few grands prix - believed to be Malaysia and Japan - in order to evaluate him ahead of a possible full-time ride in 2018.
10:34 It is a damp start to the weekend with Haas describing the conditions as "wet and unsettled". The rain is expected to fall intermittently throughout today's play.
10:30 Welcome to the Sepang circuit for the 19th and final edition of the Malaysian Grand Prix. This is FP1 and all times are local.
