Engineer: "Lewis, radio check, can you hear me now?"

Hamilton: "Yep, loud and clear. Good to have you back"

Finish Heading into the summer break, Vettel has a 14-point advantage over Hamilton in the World Championship standings. Join us again in Belgium at the end of August. Until then..
Finish Verstappen is fifth and Alonso comes home in P6 and sets the fastest lap in the process! Fellow Spaniard Sainz is seventh, with Perez, Ocon and Vandoorne completing the top 10.
Finish VETTEL WINS THE HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX! Raikkonen settles for second and it's Ferrari's first one-two in Budapest since 2004. Bottas gets his place back from Hamilton to complete the podium.
Lap 70 Race leader Vettel begins his final lap...
Lap 69 A late retirement...and it's Hulkenberg in the Renault.
Lap 68 The top three all matching each other's times with just three laps remaining.
Lap 67 Verstappen is only 10 seconds off the race lead and that is with serving a 10-second timed penalty. A case of what could have been this afternoon for the Dutchman. Red Bull's pace has been seriously impressive.
Lap 66 All of a sudden, Hamilton has got closer to Raikkonen again! Bottas looks like a sitting duck in P4 now. Verstappen is all over the back of him.
Lap 65 Bottas is in traffic and Verstappen is closing all the time, just 1.3 seconds separate them now. Have Mercedes left it too late to make the swap?
Lap 64 Looks like Hamilton has given up the chase on Raikkonen. He has dropped quite a way back and looks set to give the place back to Bottas before a very fast Verstappen gets involved.
Lap 63 What a shame for Di Resta. After his first F1 start since 2013, he has just been told to retire the car as the mechanics have spotted an issue. He becomes the third retirement of the race.
Lap 62 Hulkenberg tries to grab P11 from Magnussen by going round the outside of Turn 2, but is subsequently forced off the track and onto the grass. The stewards have noticed the issue.
Lap 60 Ten laps to go. Vettel has a 1.7 second gap to Raikkonen, who in turn is 1 second ahead of Hamilton. Bottas is six seconds further down the road.
Lap 59 Finally Hamilton gets DRS down the start/finish straight but Raikkonen manages to hold on. The Brit is having to wrestle with his car as he twitches left and right in the turbelent air.
Lap 58 Hamilton has been given another five laps to try and overtake Raikkonen. But his plan has not been helped by backmarker Magnussen, who gets in the way at Turn 1.
Lap 57 Verstappen gets a bit twitchy at Turn 11 but manages to avoid the barriers and continue on in P5.
Lap 56 With the two Ferraris still squabbling, it looks like Hamilton will given a bit more time to try and overtake. It is so, so, so difficult to do, though, with the engine and tyres overheating as soon as the drivers try and push through the dirty air.
Lap 55 The leaders are getting into traffic again, just to make Vettel's job even more difficult. Raikkonen is a little too aggressive on the final corner and he loses precious time in catching his team-mate.
Lap 53 Vettel squirms all over the place in the final corner and Raikkonen gets to within DRS range of his team-mate and race leader. He cannot find a way through yet though...
Lap 52 Bottas is told to get his skates on as well if he wants to get his place back from Hamilton. The gap is 3.5 seconds. Hamilton has been given five laps to make the overtake on Raikkonen happen or it's game over.
Lap 51 Vettel is told to push and he responds accordingly. Is he just playing this ultra, ultra cool?
Lap 50 Bottas has been told that Hamilton will give the place back if he cannot pass Raikkonen in P2. But they will have to be careful as Verstappen is lapping as quick as Hamilton is in P5 and could go in for the kill in the latter stages.
Lap 50 Meanwhile, Hulkenberg's race has been severely compromised after an issue with the wheel gun when changing tyres. He is now down in P12.
Lap 49 Vettel is still being told to avoid the kerbs, so his lead is on an absolute knife-edge.
Lap 48 Hamilton wasn't lying about having the pace. He is absolutely flying! The gap to Raikkonen is 1.8 seconds.
Lap 47 And Mercedes have decided to let Hamilton pass Bottas! Can he take the fight to Ferrari? Will he give the place back if he fails? Questions, questions, questions.
Lap 46 Perez is up to P9 after making easy work of Palmer at Turn 1.
Lap 45 "I have the pace, now let me use it," demands Hamilton. In other words, let me pass Bottas and attack the Ferraris. "We're looking into it," is the reply.
Lap 44 Just 3.5 seconds separates the top four at the moment. Tense viewing for the Ferrari garage.
Lap 43 Now the Dutchman comes in and serves his 10-second timed penalty before slapping on a pair of fresh softs. He drops from P1 to P5.
Lap 42 Verstappen is still out there on the supersofts and has the race lead for now..
Lap 41 Raikkonen is not happy that he has been put under pressure by Mercedes for no reason. Still no call from Ferrari yet.
Lap 40 The sensible decision here would be to let the much quicker Raikkonen through. But trying telling Vettel that on team radio...
Lap 39 Vettel is still struggling with handling and is actually holding up Raikkonen! The two Mercs are closing as a result and quite the train is developing here!
Lap 38 Meanwhile, Hamilton has really closed the gap to Bottas in P4. He is well within DRS range but good luck trying to find somewhere to overtake here!
Lap 37 An almighty battle has developed between Sainz and Alonso after the former nips out just ahead of the two-time World Champion in the pits. Alonso tries a couple of daring moves before finally making the overtake stick to move up to P9.
Lap 36 Verstappen is the new race leader, but he has yet to stop and has a 10-second timed penalty to serve as well.
Lap 35 Raikkonen is not happy about being brought in. He felt he still had the pace on the supersofts to complete a longer first stint.
Lap 34 A quicker stop for Raikkonen and it's going to be very close between himself and Vettel on the exit...Vettel is ahead, but only just!
Lap 33 That prompts the Ferrari garage into action. Vettel re-emerges ahead of the Mercs in P3.
Lap 32 And in comes Hamilton on the following lap. He comes back out behind his team-mate Bottas but the gap has been reduced with a much quicker stop.
Lap 31 Bottas, in P3, is the first of the big guns to make their first pit-stop. It's not a particularly quick one either, so the undercut is going to be very hard to pull off.
Lap 27 Communication problems for Mercedes. The pit wall can talk to Hamilton and Bottas but they can't hear their responses. Not too much hassle for the Brit, though, who is closing in on Verstappen, who has to serve a 10 second timed penalty remember.
Lap 25 Or maybe not...Vettel is complaining that his car is drifting to the left on the straights. The gap is 1.9 seconds.
Lap 23 Raikkonen is continuing to chip away at Vettel's lead. It's down to 2.2 seconds now, but you suspect the four-time World Champion is just managing the pace.
Lap 22 Grosjean is forced to pit due to a slow puncture, but his race is over soon after that because of a cross-threaded wheel nut. He comes to grinding halt at Turn 9.
Lap 20 And some team orders have come into effect as Palmer is told to move over for the quicker Hulkenberg, who now has P11 and is in pursuit of Ocon, who currently occupies the final points finish.
Lap 19 The gap between Vettel and Raikkonen has dropped slightly to three seconds, but Bottas is nine seconds further back down the road. This has quickly turned into a Sunday stroll for Ferrari.
Lap 16 Ricciardo on Verstappen accident: "It was amateur to say the least. There was no room to pass. He doesn't like when a team-mate gets in front. It was a very poor mistake."
Lap 14 The Ferraris are flying. Vettel is 3.4 seconds clear of Raikkonen and five seconds ahead of Bottas in third.
Lap 13 No further action between Grosjean and Magnussen. The stewards see it as purely a race incident.
Lap 12 The closest gap on track at the moment is in the battle for P11 between team-mates Palmer and Hulkenberg. The gap is 0.7 seconds.
Lap 10 After a frenetic start, the race has really settled down with the entire field spread out already.
Lap 8 The stewards are also investigating a Turn 1 incident between Grosjean and Hulkenberg, as Vettel opens up a two-second lead out in front.
Lap 7 10 second timed penalty for Verstappen! The stewards deem him fully responsible for causing a collision with his team-mate.
Lap 6 Green flags, we're racing! Vettel and Raikkonen get away well but Hamilton is all over the back of Verstappen, who defends very well to keep hold of P4. There's a big battle for P6, too, with Sainz, Alonso and Perez all getting very close to each other.
Lap 5 Safety Car in this lap...
Lap 5 We're still under the SC, but that does make the one-stop a little easier to accomplish now the tyres are being preserved.
Lap 4 As we remain behind the SC, Perez got the best start of anybody and has made up five positions to P8. Sainz is also a mover, up three places to P6. Further down the field, Di Resta is up to P17 from P19.
Lap 3 The incident is under investigation from the stewards. The clean-up operation is continuing and, looking back, Ricciardo was very fortunate not to be collected by the midfield runners after spinning out at the flat-out Turn 3.
Lap 2 Verstappen is the driver to blame here. He locks up on the inside on Turn 2 and understeers straight into his team-mate, who left plenty of room for him.
Lap 2 The two Red Bulls both got the jump on Hamilton, who has lost a place from the start and is now in P5.
Lap 1 But there's contact between Verstappen and Ricciardo! And the Aussie is out of the race after spinning out at Turn 3. Safety Car is out.
Lap 1 GO! GO! GO! Vettel moves across to cover the fast-starting Raikkonen and retains the lead ahead of his team-mate. Bottas keeps hold of third...
13:59 The formation lap is underway. Everyone is on the supersofts apart from Kvyat and Di Resta, who have both opted for softs.
13:57 "The rears are just going to die here," bemoans Hamilton on team radio. He already doesn't think a one-stop will be possible.
13:54 The cars are getting very, very hot on the grid. Mechanics are working frantically on Hamilton's car in particular, trying to divert some of that hot air away from his car.
13:50 The national anthem has been blared out. Now time for the final preparations for the long race ahead. 70 laps in store this afternoon!
13:45 "We always go aggressive. The first key part of the race is the start and getting into the first corner in a good position," Christian Horner said. It's a very long run down to the first corner, and the pole sitter here in both 2015 and 2016 has failed to lead into it...
13:40 It's another glorious day at the Hungaroring, but the high track temperatures will make it very difficult to look after the tyres. A two-stop is theoretically quicker, but that will put you in a whole lot of traffic toward the end at a track where it is very hard to overtake.
13:30 The pit lane is now open. Time for some practice starts before the cars make their way to the grid slots.
13:23 Stroll will be starting in P17, but all eyes will be on Paul di Resta, who is taking part in his first F1 race for 1344 days. He was told just before qualifying he would be covering for an ill Felipe Massa and impressed with how quickly he started to get up to pace. He is sandwiched in between the two Saubers to start with.
13:19 Esteban Ocon and Sergio Perez, P11 and P14 respectively, will both be trying to force their way back into their regular points finishes. In behind Perez are the two Haas drivers, Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen.
13:16 Carlos Sainz and Jolyon Palmer complete the top 10, with their respective team-mates Daniil Kvyat and Nico Hulkenberg both suffering penalties. Kvyat, now in P13, was given a three-place grid drop and another penalty point (two more away from a race ban) for holding up Lance Stroll in qualifying; Hulkenberg is one spot ahead after taking a five-place grid drop for a gearbox change.
13:13 The characteristics of this track, one of the least power-sensitive circuits on the calendar, means McLaren-Honda have had their eye on this race for quite some time. Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne have been running in the top 10 all weekend and line up P7 and P8 respectively this afternoon, hopeful of a double-points finish.
13:10 Red Bull showed the early pace on Friday, but they have since fallen back to their usual third-row slots with Max Verstappen leading Daniel Ricciardo. Neither are happy with their starting spots and, armed with an upgraded RB13, they both could play a huge factor in today's race around a tight and twisty circuit.
13:07 Valtteri Bottas, within a victory of Vettel in the Championship standings starts from a familiar third on the grid. But, Lewis Hamilton, has work to do from P4 if he is to head into the summer as the new Championship leader. The Brit thinks it will be "a breeze" for Ferrari today. That's the spirit!
13:05 It's not been the ideal preparation for Ferrari this morning, though. On Vettel's side of the garage, mechanics have detected a hydraulics system problem around the gearbox of the German's car. The issue appears to have been rectified and a new gearbox was not needed, so no late grid penalty.
13:03 Ferrari came to life in qualifying on Saturday, with the Scuderia securing their third front row lock-out of the season and World Championship leader Sebastian Vettel starting on pole for the first time since Monaco.
13:00 Hello and welcome to Budapest for the final race of the 2017 season before the summer break. Lights out in one hour!
15:02 And he keeps pole! It's a Ferrari one-two in Hungary with Vettel claiming a 48th career pole position! Bottas and Hamilton are on the second row, with Verstappen in P5 and Ricciardo P6. Hulkenberg will drop five places from P7; Alonso, Vandoorne and Sainz complete the top 10. Join us again for the race tomorrow!
15:00 A shake of the head from Toto Wolff as Bottas can only find an extra tenth on Vettel, who still has pole...
14:58 Hamilton is a tenth down after the first two sectors and gets in the turbulent air of a Ferrari before slotting his Mercedes into P3. The record will have to wait.
14:56 Here comes Hamilton on his out lap. Big pressure on the Brit to put a clean lap together now. He's got one shot.
14:55 Still waiting for Hamilton and Sainz to put a time in...
14:54 Verstappen goes quicker than his team-mate with a 1:16.7, enough to put him P3 for now.
14:52 Ricciardo is up to P3, six tenths off Vettel on provisional pole. Raikkonen is P4, with Hulkenberg leading the two Mc-Hondas.
14:51 Bottas sets a 1:16.6 but it's instantly wiped out by Vettel who goes quickest with a 1:16.2. Hamilton's backed off in the middle sector and come into the pits. He's still not happy with the balance.
14:49 Bottas, Vettel, Hulkenberg and Hamilton are the first drivers out on track.
14:48 Time to find out who is going to stick their car on pole. The 12-minute Q3 session is underway!
14:40 Out in Q2: Palmer, Ocon, Kvyat, Perez, Grosjean. The Ferraris didn't bother coming out for a final run, saving on some tyre lifespan in the process. The top 10 shoot-out coming up.
14:39 Ocon, Kvyat and Grosjean all improve but it's not enough to get into the top 10. Same goes for Palmer, but he can only rise up to P11 again!
14:38 Hello, hello, hello. Hamilton is finally dialled in and sets a 1:16.693. The quickest time of the weekend!
14:36 Time for the final hot laps of Q2...
14:34 In the drop zone with five minutes left: Palmer, Sainz, Kvyat, Grosjean, Perez.
14:33 Hulkenberg is up to P6, eight tenths behind Vettel in P1.
14:32 Alonso and Vandoorne are both back into top ten with two tenths separating the pair in P7 and P8.
14:31 Verstappen puts a nice, neat and tidy lap together and goes second fastest, just two tenths behind Vettel.
14:28 Sebastian Vettel is the first driver to drop down into the 1:16 region with a 1:16.802. Hamilton is second with a 1:17.1, but he went fully off track at Turn 4 as he still struggles with the balance of his car.
14:25 Green lights for Q2. We'll lose another five drivers in this 15 minute session ahead of the top ten shoot-out.
14:20 Out in Q1: Magnussen, Stroll, Wehrlein, Di Resta, Ericsson. So Di Resta, who hasn't take part in a qualifying session since 2013, in a car he has never driven before today, is still faster that Ericsson! Q2 coming up...
14:20 Kvyat the latest to go off at Turn 4 and it brings out the yellow flags and compromises a few of the final hot laps.
14:17 Improvement from Di Resta in the Williams, but it's not enough for him to move from P20. Stroll, meanwhile, gets a rough exit from Turn 4 and that is enough to keep him in the elimination zone, too.
14:15 Magnussen is the last driver to put an attack lap together and he gets himself out of the danger zone with a 1:19.1.
14:14 Verstappen shoots up to P2 with his latest hot lap, just two hundredths of a second behind pace-setter Vettel.
14:12 Five minutes left and currently in the elimination zone are: Grosjean, Ericsson, Wehrlein, Di Resta, Magnussen.
14:10 Verstappen and Ricciardo slot into P4 and P5 respectively, both six tenths off the pace. Both McLaren-Honda drivers also put themselves into the top 10 with their first hot laps.
14:07 Now Vettel finds improvement and re-takes top spot with a 1:17.2. We still await to see what the Red Bulls can bring to the table.
14:06 Hamilton sets new fastest time through the middle sector and closes the gap to Raikkonen to one tenth.
14:05 And here come the Ferraris. Raikkonen goes quickest with a 1:17.382 and Vettel is two tenths bejind in P2. The Mercs relegated to the second row at the moment.
14:03 Hamilton puts the first timed lap on the board: a 1:17.905. Shortly followed by Di Resta's first lap in the Williams car, which is a 1:22.289.
14:00 And we're off! The five slowest drivers will be eliminated in this 18-minute session.
13:58 Almost set...the weather is still perfect, with track temperatures up to 57 degrees.
13:55 With Q1 just five minutes away, a quick reminder that Renault's Nico Hulkenberg has a five-place grid penalty to come after a gearbox change.
13:50 Hamilton, of course, could equal Michael Schumacher's all-time record of 68 pole positions today. However, he has not even been able to do one run on supersofts due to the balance issues with his car. The latest milestone in his career may have to wait.
13:48 One team who will be quietly confident of success in qualifying is *whispers* McLaren-Honda. Both Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne have finished in the top 10 in all three practice sessions so far. One of the least power-sensitive tracks of the season is really working in their favour.
13:45 A word from Mercedes boss Toto Wolff: "It's short and twisty, slow corners, resurfaced and a lot of things which don't seem to suit our car. The new reality is there are some days when we won't be as strong as Ferrari and Red Bull."
13:43 Red Bull have regressed slightly after Daniel Riccardo topped the first two practice sessions in his upgraded RB13. The Aussie saw his FP3 cut short after developing a gearbox issue. Max Verstappen, meanwhile, was fourth quickest.
13:40 Sochi and Monaco have shown that Mercedes do have a tendency to struggle on narrow, twisty circuits, and so far that has been the case again this weekend. Valtteri Bottas was eight tenths off the pace in FP3, with Lewis Hamilton over a second back. The Brit in particular has struggled to get into any rhythm. Plenty of work to do for the Silver Arrows.
13:35 After Red Bull's early dominance in practice, Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari have now set the bar very high ahead of qualifying. The German smashed the Hungaroring lap record with a 1:17.017 in FP3, four tenths quicker than team-mate Kimi Raikkonen in P2.
13:32 The breaking news since FP3 is that Williams reserve driver Paul Di Resta is in for the rest of the weekend as Felipe Massa is unwell. Di Resta, who was on commentary duties for Sky Sports, has been thrown in right at the deep end in a car he has never actually driven before. Good luck!
13:30 Hello and welcome back to Budapest for the last qualifying session before the summer break. Q1 gets underway in 30 minutes.
12:01 That's it for FP3, join us in two hours for qualifying for the Hungarian GP. Cheers.
12:00 But it is Vettel with a new lap record who finishes P1!
11:59 Vandoorne jumps to sixth place, Verstappen to fourth and Hulkenberg seventh.
11:57 It looks as if this session will end with another P19 and P20 for Sauber who continue to struggle for pace.
11:55 Interestingly the top ten on the timesheet is all two by two: Ferrari, Mercedes, Red Bull, McLaren and Renault. Then it goes Toro Rosso next in line.
11:51 Paul di Resta is in the Williams garage with reports stating that the team is changing the pedals on Massa's car to suit the Brit.
11:49 Over at McLaren, Alonso is P7 and Vandoorne P8.
11:47 A spin for Grosjean leaves the rear of his Haas hanging off the track at Turn 2. Brakes went on, back end went out.
11:46 Another small mistake for Hamilton and this time he backs off.
11:45 Hamilton is up to fourth on his next lap as he ran wide at Turn 2.
11:43 Here comes Hamilton on the supersofts but he stays fifth after his first flying lap.
11:41 If you are wondering where Massa is, the Brazilian is out of the car and in the Williams hospitality area. Not looking good for him.
11:39 Another hot lap from Vettel and another new lap record, a 1:17.017.
11:38 Bottas has swapped the softs for a set of supersofts and jumps up to third place despite a small error where he took too much kerb.
11:36 Ricciardo's car has been pushed off the track and behind a barrier. yellow flags are lifted.
11:34 Ricciardo has completely lost drive and asked the marshals to put the car in neutral. It appears to be an electronic issue for the Red Bull driver.
11:33 Problems for Ricciardo, who has stopped on the side of the track. Yellow flags are out.
11:32 Grosjean is once again struggling with the handling of his car, reporting that it still doesn't feel right.
11:28 Hamilton has a minor off but continues on his way. He is P3 on the soft tyres.
11:25 A bit of smoke coming from the back of Alonso's McLaren but he goes P6. Doesn't seem to be a problem.
11:21 Massa is back on track after a few checks to his car. He is P10 on the supersofts.
11:20 Hamilton has also opted to head out on a set of the soft tyres with Bottas up to fourth place on his set. The rest of the field are lapping on the supersofts.
11:17 Vettel is on a flier and he is up through the second sector, and he does a1:17.790. Another new track record.
11:15 Vettel hits the track on a set of supersoft tyres while Bottas goes out on softs.
11:14 Raikkonen ups his pace to a 1:17.909, the fastest ever lap at the Hungaroring.
11:12 Raikkonen hits the front with a 1:18.727 and Verstappen goes second.
11:10 Palmer is out in his repaired RS17, a set of supersofts bolted to the car, and he does a 1:21.1.
11:09 P1 now belongs to Verstappen who clocks a 1:19.012 on the supersoft tyres.
11:06 Sainz pits after four laps having lowered his time to a 1:22.7.
11:04 First time on the board is set by Sainz, a 1:23.7.
11:02 Good news as Massa, apparently feeling "fine" according to Rob Smedley, leaves the pits in his FW40.
11:01 Marcus Ericsson and Daniil Kvyat are the first two drivers to leave the pits followed by Romain Grosjean, Magnussen and Sainz.
11:00 Green light and FP3 is underway at the Hungaroring...
10:55 It is another glorious day at the Hungaroring, blue skies as far as the eye can see and a track temperature of 43'C. There is, however, a bit of wind which can cause havoc for the drivers as it also blows dust onto the circuit.
10:47 News this morning is that Felipe Massa went to hospital following Friday's second practice as he complained of being unwell and dizzy. He was released and this morning was cleared to contest FP3 by the FIA doctors. He will face further checks after final practice.
10:42 Pascal Wehrlein was another who crashed in FP2, bringing out the red flags. The good news is that the Sauber driver, who fractured his back in January, escaped without injury.
10:39 It was a difficult day for Jolyon Palmer, who suffered accidents in both practice sessions, and Haas's Kevin Magnussen. Although he didn't crash in FP1, his car was smashed by test driver Antonio Giovinazzi which meant that Magnussen only drove in the final 30 minutes of FP2 as Haas had to repair the VF17. Both will be hoping for some solid running this session.
10:34 A quick look at Friday's top ten: 1 Daniel Ricciardo Red Bull 1:18.455 2 Sebastian Vettel Ferrari 1:18.638 0.183 3 Valtteri Bottas Mercedes 1:18.656 0.201 4 Kimi Raikkonen Ferrari 1:18.755 0.300 5 Lewis Hamilton Mercedes 1:18.779 0.324 6 Max Verstappen Red Bull 1:18.951 0.496 7 Nico Hulkenberg Renault Sport 1:19.714 1.259 8 Fernando Alonso McLaren 1:19.815 1.360 9 Carlos Sainz Toro Rosso 1:19.834 1.379 10 Stoffel Vandoorne McLaren 1:19.909 1.454
10:30 Welcome back to the Hungaroring for final practice for the Hungarian GP. This session is just 60 minutes so expect a lot of action after Friday's red flag stoppages hampered the teams' planned preparations.
15:32 That is it for today, join us on Saturday morning for final practice for the Hungarian GP. Cheers.
15:31 Ricciardo ends two from two for practice and Palmer two from two for crashes.
15:30 Chequered flag is out and FP2 is over...
15:27 Ricciardo is on a 1:22.7 on the supersofts while Bottas is doing 1:21.8s on the softs and Hamilton 1:21.9 on those. Vettel does a 1:21.9 on the softs.
15:25 According to reports Wehrlein is in the dark about what went wrong, he turned it and the car just snapped away.
15:23 Magnussen is slowest of all but only by 0.2s behind Wehrlein.
15:21 Magnussen has joined the others out on track and is up to lap number 4 for the session.
15:18 Green...
15:14 Similar to Wehrlein, Palmer's car snapped, he tried to catch it and spun off. He hit the barrier with the rear of the car.
15:12 Palmer has crashed. Is the car OK Jo... No! Yip. He has gone off and hit the barriers sideward with the rear right damaged. Red flag is out again.
15:11 Magnussen ventures out of the pits for his first lap of the afternoon...
15:09 Problems for Vandoorne who is told to back off and box. Ouch.
15:07 Grosjean's troubles continue as he reports that "one lap there is massive oversteer, the next lap understeer."
15:05 All the drivers are out on used tyres except Grosjean, the Frenchman is running a brand new set of supersoft tyres.
15:03 The drivers line up at the end of the pit lane ready for the restart, and we're off...
15:00 No laps yet from Magnussen as Haas continue to work on his car.
14:56 The red flags are still out as the marshals remove Wehrlein's stricken Sauber.
14:52 Red flags as Wehrlein has crashed hard into the barriers at Turn 11. "All OK," is his verdict. Maybe he is, the car isn't.
14:48 Verstappen is on a great lap, purple in the first sector, down in the second and he stays P6, half a second down on Ricciardo.
14:45 Another spin for Massa who think there must be something wrong with his car.
14:42 Vandoorne is up to eighth place in the McLaren with Alonso P11.
14:41 Ricciardo is on a hot lap, purple in the middle sector as he goes from fifth to fastest. A 1:18.455 for the Red Bull driver.
14:39 Hamilton's fastest time, which puts him P4, is still on the soft tyres and his supersoft run didn't work for him.
14:38 He gets it going again and heads off...
14:37 Problems for Raikkonen, who is pulling over to the side of the track. "I have no power," he reports. "I cannot do anything," he adds as his engineers try to get the car going. Marshals on hand now.
14:36 Massa has a spin down at Turn 5 but avoids the barriers and continues on his way.
14:33 Vettel goes quickest on the supersoft tyres with a 1:18.6. Raikkonen makes another improvement but is again second, make that third as Bottas goes second.
14:30 Raikkonen improved by 1.1s on the supersofts but is still behind Hamilton on the timesheet. The Brit heads out on the supers.
14:28 Palmer is up to 17th place, 3.6s down and sandwiched between the two Saubers. His Renault is smoking a bit which isn't good news for the Brit. Renault saying it could be the "plank."
14:27 The Renault driver and the two Saubers are the only drivers lapping, wait, here comes Raikkonen in the Ferrari and on the supersoft tyres.
14:26 Palmer is out on track in his repaired Sauber.
14:20 Stroll meets the Palmer kerb but manages to avoid damage as he shoots off the kerb. Palmer ran along it.
14:19 Soft tyres all around at the start of this session. The drivers can also use the red marked supersofts and the mediums.
14:15 Ricciardo hits the front with a 1:19.3 but is pipped by Hamilton with a 1:18.779.
14:14 Hamilton pips his team-mate with a 1:19.3 as Verstappen moves up to second and Ricciardo goes fourth.
14:12 Bottas is the new man in P1 with a 1:19.546 with Vettel 0.152s down.
14:09 An off for Grosjean as he understeers his way off the track at Turn 4. "I think we've got an issue, it is getting worse and worse and worse," is the Frenchman's verdict. He adds: "I don't know what is going on."
14:08 And the complaints keep coming with Hamilton reporting a "very loud whistle" as he leaves the pits for his first run of the afternoon.
14:07 Lots of "understeer" is Kvyat's verdict as he puts in his first laps in FP2. No sign yet of Palmer as Renault are still fixing his RS17.
14:05 Vettel pips his team-mate by hundreds of a second while Grosjean asks if the balance of his car is correct as he has a mountain of understeer.
14:03 Laying down the laps, Raikkonen posts a 1:20.085 to get the ball rolling.
14:00 Green light and FP2 gets underway without Magnussen as the Dane's Haas is still undergoing repairs following Giovinazzi's earlier crash. Raikkonen, who was P2 earlier, is the first man out.
13:51 Blue skies and sunshine is on order this afternoon with the track temperature sitting at 33'C at present.
13:45 A quick look at the top ten from FP1: 1 Daniel Ricciardo Red Bull 1:18.486 (SS) 2 Kimi Raikkonen Ferrari 1:18.720 0.234 (SS) 3 Lewis Hamilton Mercedes 1:18.858 0.372 (SS) 4 Max Verstappen Red Bull 1:19.162 0.676 (SS) 5 Valtteri Bottas Mercedes 1:19.248 0.762 (SS) 6 Sebastian Vettel Ferrari 1:19.563 1.077 (SS) 7 Fernando Alonso McLaren 1:19.987 1.501 (SS) 8 Stoffel Vandoorne McLaren 1:20.005 1.519 (SS) 9 Nico Hulkenberg Renault Sport 1:20.150 1.664 (SS) 10 Jolyon Palmer Renault Sport 1:20.461 1.975 (SS)
13:38 Daniel Ricciardo set the early pace in FP1 with an upgraded Red Bull, as Antonio Giovinazzi and Jolyon Palmer both caused red flags. Giovinazzi crashed the front left of the Haas - Kevin Magnussen's Haas - when he hit the barrier and prompting the red flags to wave. Meanwhile on the exit of Turn 4, Palmer lost his front wing, while Renault also reported a tyre puncture – leaving the marshals with plenty to clean up ahead of FP2.
13:30 Welcome back to the Hungaroring for the second of Friday's two 90-minute practice sessions. All times are local.
11:30 So Daniel Ricciardo is the early pace-setter in the upgraded Red Bull, leading Kimi Raikkonen and Lewis Hamilton. Join us again for FP2, which begins at 14:00 local time.
11:29 Red flags will bring an end to the first session as Palmer has lost his front wing on the exit of Turn 4 thanks to the kerb! Brutal.
11:22 Not much change in the leaderboard as we head into the final five minutes. There is slight improvement from Verstappen, but not enough to move him up from P5.
11:15 Raikkonen rises to P2 now, just two tenths behind Raikkonen. Hamilton and Bottas drop to P3 and P4 respectively.
11:11 Vettel, meanwhile has lost a tiny part of his car after running over a kerb a little too aggressively.
11:10 Significant improvement from Ricciardo as he moves three tenths clear at the top with 1:18.486, just five hundredths of a second slower than the fastest outright lap set by Rubens Barrichello.
11:08 This track is expected to suit Red Bull this weekend, same for McLaren too. Both Alonso and Vandoorne are running in the top 10.
11:06 Now Ricciardo goes quickest...by six milliseconds! "Very good lap," he is told over team radio. Very good, indeed.
11:02 As Vettel struggles to keep his car on track through the final two corners, Ricciardo has slapped on some supersofts and just gone second fastest to split the two Mercs. He is two tenths behind Hamilton.
10:57 Hamilton is the new FP1 leader and is first to drop into the 1:18 region. 30 minutes left in the session.
10:52 Hamilton narrows the gap once again and closes to within a tenth of Bottas. Raikkonen and Vettel are eight tenths and a second behind respectively.
10:50 All drivers in the top 10 have done their best time on the supersofts, bar Daniel Ricciardo. The Australian is still third quickest, posting a 1:19.920 on softs.
10:48 Bottas extends his advantage after wrestling his car around the final bend. A 1:19.2 from the Finn.
10:45 We're halfway through FP1 and it's still Bottas leading the way. Team-mate Hamilton is two tenths off the pace in second.
10:39 Green lights and the cars are back out.
10:37 We'll be back underway in two minutes with 52 minutes of the session remaining.
10:36 The front of the Haas looks a real mess. Giovinazzi will be doing his best to avoid Magnussen in the garage!
10:32 Red flag! Giovinazzi is the latest to fall victim to Turn 11 and suffers a hefty crash into the tyre wall. He is a very expensive man to have around!
10:30 Now Vettel goes off at the exact same spot where Grosjean did just moments ago. Unlike the Frenchman, though, Vettel is able to catch the spin before making contact with the barrier.
10:28 Valtteri Bottas is then able to shave two hundreths off his fellow Finn's best to jump to the top of the standings.
10:27 Plenty of times now up on the board. Fastest at the moment is Kimi Raikkonen with a 1:20.078 on supersofts.
10:26 And now trouble for Romain Grosjean as he hits the barrier at Turn 9. The rear wing may have taken a bit of damage there. Brake problems again?
10:24 Yellow flags in the first sector as Stoffel Vandoorne has an early off at Turn 2. He carries too much speed into the left-hander, locks-up, and spins out as a result. The Belgian also reports that his engine just "stopped". Worrying.
10:22 The track is still incredibly green, as Palmer has just demonstrated at the penultimate corner with understeer and then oversteer through it.
10:19 Thankfully just a brief lull in the action, as Jolyon Palmer and Lance Stroll both head out on the supersofts.
10:15 After that early flurry of car activity, the track is completely clear again. Christian Horner has just revealed, though, that Red Bull have already matched their middle sector time from qualifying last year with their new aerodynamic update. Promising early signs.
10:12 The weather is lovely, by the way. Nice and sunny with track temperatures at 27 degrees. Perfect conditions for an early morning drive.
10:10 A couple of reserve drivers are getting some laps under their belt this morning. Antonio Giovinazzi is in the Haas, while Alfonso Celis Jr is getting a spin in Force India's pink panther. Kevin Magnussen and Esteban Ocon have the morning off.
10:07 First lap on the board is a 1:21.469 from Daniel Ricciardo, who has the soft tyre equipped.
10:05 Fernando Alonso can see 'puncture' flashing up on his dash, but his team reassure him there is no problem and is merely a gremlin in the system.
10:00 Green lights for FP1 and a handful of cars are straight out for their installation laps. Max Verstappen leads the pack.
09:55 After ditching Honda for 2018 on Thursday, Sauber have just announced they have signed a new 'multi-year deal' with Ferrari.
09:45 The tight, twisty Hungaroring could prove difficult for Mercedes to master given their longer wheel-base and troubles earlier on in the season at Monaco. The likes of Red Bull will be confident, especially with a new upgrade to try out, while McLaren-Honda feel they can be competitive at one of the least power-sensitive tracks.
09:42 Hamilton: "I think we're still showing that we are the best team. It's been great work by the team collectively - and we've not even brought many updates to the car. The last race we didn't bring an update, so we've just been able to exploit it more and learn about the car."
09:40 Lewis Hamilton, though, is fresh from a dominant win on home soil and believes Mercedes have shown that they are still very much the team to beat this season.
09.38 Vettel: "I'm not stressing too much. On paper, it should be a good race for us. I like the track, we know we have to do. The fact that it's the last race before the summer break doesn't change anything."
09:35 Sebastian Vettel arrives in Hungary with a slender one-point advantage in the World Championship standings after tyre troubles at Silverstone saw him finish seventh. He's not worried though...
09:30 Hello and welcome to the start of Round 11 of the 2017 season: the Hungarian Grand Prix. It's the last race weekend before school is out for summer, with FP1 getting underway in 30 minutes.
