FINISH That is that from us. Thank you for your company and do join us again next weekend for the Italian Grand Prix. Ciao!
FINISH Congrats to Hamilton, who has closed the gap to Vettel to just seven points.
FINISH It wasn't a classic, but the Ocon-Perez clash meant the Safety Car had to come out and it gave us a bit of entertainment. Hamilton managed to put the foot down when he had to so good drive.
FINISH After the podium finishers you have, Raikkonen, Bottas, Hulkenberg, Grosjean, Massa, Ocon and Sainz.
FINISH Hamilton wins the Belgian Grand Prix ahead of Vettel with Ricciardo claiming the final podium place. It's victory for Hamilton in his 200th race.
Lap 44 I'm going to call, Hamilton is going to hang here.
Lap 44 FINAL LAP of the 2017 Belgium Grand Prix and Vettel doesn't look like he is close enough.
Lap 43 Nervous faces on the Mercedes pit wall. It's a 1.7s lead for Hamilton over Vettel while Reicciardo also looks comfortable in P3.
Lap 43 Perez is told 'box, box, retire the car'. He's only the fourth retirement today.
Lap 42 A 1:46.577 is the new fastest lap and it came from Vettel. That gap is 1.3s to Hamilton.
Lap 42 Hamilton is told to manage to tyres to 'your feelings'.
Lap 41 Does Hamilton have it under control? He is 1.3s ahead of Vettel while Ricciardo is another 5.6s adrift in third place.
Lap 40 Palmer is within DRS range of Perez, but he is not close enough to make a move.
Lap 40 Ferrari have told Vettel that he doesn't have to worry about the tyres and he can push as hard as he can. Hamilton, meanwhile, has reported that 'rear temperatures coming up'.
Lap 39 But Hamilton is far from home and dry as Vettel has reduced the gap to 1.1s.
Lap 39 If Hamilton wins this race with Vettel second, then the Mercedes driver will reduce the Ferrari driver's gap in the Championship to seven points.
Lap 38 Stroll, Perez and Kvyat are the man just off the top 10.
Lap 38 Here's your top 10: Hamilton, Vettel, Ricciardo, Bottas, Hulkenberg, Grosjean, Massa, Ocon and Sainz.
Lap 37 Things seem to have settled down now.
Lap 37 Ricciardo is holding to the final podium place here as he is 1.2s ahead of Raikkonen in fourth place.
Lap 36 Massa and Grosjean made contact on the restart and Magnussen went flying off as he tried to avoid it.
Lap 36 Fastest lap from Hamilton of 1:46.603 and that gives him a gap of 1.2s over Vettel.
Lap 35 It's Hamilton from Vettel, Ricciardo, Raikkonen, Bottas and Hulkenberg. Raikkonen managed to outmuscle Bottas on the restart that's why he is up to P4.
Lap 35 And here comes Hamilton and Vettel at Eau Rouge again, but the Ferrari man is a bit further back then he was on the previous lap.
Lap 35 No further action over the Perez-Ocon incident.
Lap 34 Wow, Vettel had a real go there and they were side-by-side for a long time, but Hamilton somehow stayed ahead. Bottas also went off and that means Ricciardo is up to P3.
Lap 34 They go side-by-side and Hamilton somehow stays out in front. Grosjean overshoots, but he's further down the track.
Lap 34 Vettel has a look, but hes not close enough. Good slip stream, but still Hamilton holds firm.
Lap 34 Hamilton backs them up, but here we go again and Vettel is all over the back of the Mercedes.
Lap 33 The Safety Car is coming in on this lap while the stewards have 'noted' the incident between Perez and Ocon. Incredibly, both Force Indias are still running.
Lap 32 Now Hamilton complains the Safety Car is driving too slow.
Lap 32 Hamilton wants to know why they have a Safety Car out there and is told 'there is debris all over the track'.
Lap 32 Okay Hamilton is on his softs and Vettel is on the ultra softs.
Lap 31 'What the f***' shouts Ocon after the contact between the two Force Indias. Perez didn't give his team-mate any space.
Lap 31 Hamilton and Vettel have now also made their way to the pits. Well, just about everyone has made it to the pits.
Lap 31 A host of drivers are in the pits now and Ocon has had a nose change. Perez has made it back to the pits.
Lap 30 Raikkonen was the first to pit while the two three were too far down the track.
Lap 30 Okay so the Force India's touched and Perez came off worst as he picked up a puncture with debris flying off his car. He tried to nurse his car home, but not sure if he made it.
Lap 30 We'll have a Safety Car as there is debris all over the track after Perez's tyre has gone to pieces.
Lap 30 They have touched, they have touched, they have touched. Yes, we are talking about the Force Indias.
Lap 30 Looks like we are in for another Force India battle as Ocon has closed the gap to Perez, who is P10. Ocon is not impressed by the team tactics .
Lap 29 They just showed a replay of Palmer having a bit of argy-bargy with Alonso at Rivage before his retirement. 'He didn't leave me any space', shouts the Renault driver and he has a point.
Lap 28 Hamilton's lead over Vettel is back up to 1.8s with Bottas another 5.7s behind.
Lap 27 The McLaren mechanics are out and in comes Alonso. Unfortunately, it's not for a pit stop as he's being rolled back into the garage. Ah, sad to see him go as that means the end of his entertaining radio feedback.
Lap 26 Verstappen and Wehrlein are the only retirements so far, while Ericsson is the last man on the track.
Lap 25 Ricciardo is ahead of Raikkonen on the track, but the Australian has a 28s lead over the Ferrari man.
Lap 25 The gap between Hamilton and Vettel is about 1.4s. Meanwhile, Raikkonen is all over the back of Hulkenberg's Renault. Aaand he does it without much fuss.
Lap 24 Raikkonen is still P6, but he is within DRS range of Hulkenberg.
Lap 23 Massa, Alonso and Palmer are the ones chasing the final point.
Lap 23 If you are wondering about the top 10, here it is: Hamilton, Vettel, Bottas, Ricciardo, Hulkenberg, Raikkonen, Ocon, Perez, Grosjean and Magnussen.
Lap 22 Hamilton is told to 'keep track position' and he replies 'I'm trying to'. He's not getting away from Vettel.
Lap 21 Alonso having another moan after he was told that Stoffel is pitting. Looks like they don't learn lessons over at McLaren.
Lap 21 Vettel is closing the gap here and the gap is down to 1.2s. Raikkonen goes on the inside of Ocon and he is up to P6.
Lap 20 And now Perez has been given a five-second time penalty for not giving back a place after going off the track.
Lap 20 Back to the front, Hamilton leads by 1.7s with Vettel about 5.9s ahead of Bottas.
Lap 19 And now Raikkonen tells his team that 'my car is actually really nice now'.
Lap 18 And now Raikkonen is shouting at his team after they informed him of his penalty. He decides to serve the penalty straightaway.
Lap 17 Alonso is getting angrier by the minute and he is told his pit crew to 'no more radio for the rest of the race'. Do you want a dummy as well, Fernando?
Lap 16 Not good news for Ferrari as Raikkonen has been hit with a 10s stop-go penalty for failing to slow down under double yellow flags.
Lap 16 Perez is under investigation for leaving the track and raining an unfair advantage. This is related to his double overtake of Grosjean and Kvyat.
Lap 16 And here comes Vettel on Raikkonen, should be straightforward. Oh wait, he doesn't have to get out of the way as he ducks into the pit lane.
Lap 15 Hamilton is back into the lead after a pretty smooth move on the outside of Raikkonen, who is yet to pit. So that tells you about the lead Hamilton has over the second Ferrari.
Lap 15 Here comes a Ferrari into the pits and it's Vettel. He takes on the softs and rejoins behind Hamilton.
Lap15 Perez has a look on the inside of Grosjean, who is P9, but the door closes pretty quickly. Perez decides to in between Kvyat and Grojean and he is up to P9.
Lap 14 Bottas has now also stopped and he rejoins in P5, behind Ricciardo. Ferrari have not responded.
Lap 14 Raikkonen is under investigation for failing to slow down under yellow flags. This was during the Verstappen incident.
Lap 13 Ocon makes an easy pass on the Toro Rosso of Kvyat and he is up to P8.
Lap 13 Hamilton is told it is 'Hammer Time' before the pit stop, but he comes Hamilton into the pits.He stops for 2.3s and rejoins in P4 on the softs, behind Raikkonen and ahead of Ricciardo.
Lap 12 Hulkenberg responds to Ocon's pit stop and he is out cleanly. He stays ahead of the Force India.
Lap 12 Hulkenberg responds to Ocon's pit stop and he is out cleanly. He stays ahead of the Force India.
Lap 11 A 1:49.911 is the new fastest lap of the race from Vettel and the lead to Hamilton is 1.7.
Lap 11 Bottas says he is starting to see blistering on his ultra softs. Ocon, Grosjean and Alonso are into the its.
Lap 10 Magnussen tells his team it is time to get off the tyre and he gets his wish as they replace the ultra soft with the soft.
Lap 10 Ericsson has made his first pit stop and he rejoins at the back. Meanwhile, Verstappen waves to the Dutch fans as he is given a lift to the RBR garage.
Lap 9 And now Red Bull boss Christian Horner is also shaking his head. What do you reckon, who is angrier right now? Verstappen or Alonso?
Lap 9 Verstappen is still shaking his head. He's given more instructions, but he replies 'I can't believe this'.
Lap 8 Max is told 'fail one, fail, fail one, fail'. Daddy Verstappen is shaking his head in the Red Bull garage. And now Max is also shaking his head as he parks his car in Sector 1.
Lap 8 Oh dear, cars are speeding past Verstappen. Not sure what is happening for the 'home boy'.
Lap 7 Back at the front and Hamilton's lead is 1.7s over Vettel with Bottas another 3.3s behind in third place. Raikkonen is 2.9s behind his compatriot Bottas.
Lap 6 Alonso's afternoon continues to go from bad to worse as Grosjean is the latest to sweep past him. He doesn't sound happy, but when last did he sound happy?
Lap 6 Just back to Wehrlein, he felt a problem with the rear suspension and they have told him they are going to try to fix it, but the driver is out of the car.
Lap 5 Alonso has his first little moan of the race as he says it is embarrassing getting passed by Hulkenberg, Ocon and Perez after such a great start
Lap 5 Well, well, well. The two Force Indias made contact on the opening lap. Shock! Horror!
Lap 4 Ocon on Alonso and the Force India man makes it stick. Magnussen, meanwhile, is stalking Grosjean.
Lap 4 Vettel is quicker in the first second while Hamilton leads the way in Sector 2. Fastest lap of 1:50.328 from Hamilton, but Vettel is still just 1.2s behind.
Lap 4 Wehrlein is the first man out as he has a problem with his brakes. Hulkenberg has managed to regain 7.
Lap 3 So what's happening at the front, Hamilton leads Vettel by 0.718s while Bottas is 2.5s behind his Mercedes team-mate.
Lap 3 So all 20 drivers were away cleanly. Perez is now trying to catch up to the Alonso, Hulkenberg, Ocon battle.
Lap 2 Hulkenberg finds himself sandwiched in between Alonso and Ocon and, wow, Alonso powers past the Renault to move back into P7 while Hulkenberg is now P8.
Lap 2 Okay so the top six is a case of 'as you were' and then you have Alonso followed by, but not for long as Hulkenberg gets the place while Ocon is P9 and Magnussen P10.
Lap 1 A bit of challenge into the second corner from Vettel, but Hamilton holds firm. Alonso is up to P7! No, really.
Lap 1 And away they go at Spa with Hamilton quick off the line, but Vettel wasn't too bad either. Hamilton is first into corner 1 and he is followed by Vettel while Bottas with the two Red Bulls next.
14:01 A weather update, current air temp is 22 degrees and the track is 23. Humidity level is 61%.
14:00 The formation lap is underway. They are all away.
13:58 Of course, the top 10 are all starting on the ultra softs. Wehrlein is the only one on the softs while Stroll, Massa, Ericsson, Kvyat and Vandoorne are on the red super softs.
13:52 Alonso's getting strapped in, as is Hulkenberg.
13:51 And now it's Jolyon's turn. He feels they still have a good chance of scoring points despite dropping to P14.
13:48 Daddy Palmer, or Jonathan Palmer if you like, admits it was disappointing to seen Jolyon drop down the grid after his penalty. Ah parents, they are the best.
13:45 La Brabançonne, or Song of Brabant, rings around Spa. In case you didn't know, that's the national anthem of Belgium.
13:44 Raikkonen has reported one or two vibration issues, but nothing too concerning. Hopefully it will turn into good vibrations. Yes, yes, we're hanging our heads in shame and yet, they will probably withdraw that trophy/award.
13:43 Pirelli is predicting mostly two stoppers.
13:39 Quick prediction? We like to sit on the fence so we are going for Hamilton, Vettel, Raikkonen.
13:33 It's also 20 years of Martin Brundle's grid walks and you have to say there are some good ones. He has received a trophy/award from Ross Brawn. You get a trophy/award for anything these days. I'll be collecting my trophy/award after this race for my commentary.
13:31 Raikkonen was out as soon as the pit lane opened, but Ricciardo is still chilling in the garage as they are working on his RB13. Nothing serious, just final tweaks.
13:30 Aaaaand the pit lane is now open. We know you and the drivers have been waiting for this moment for a long time. Nearly a month since the last time.
13:28 More from Schumacher jr. "It was an absolute pleasure for me. No hesitation at all - I was so happy to do it. It was emotional. There is a lot of history here and for my father."
13:26 In an on-track interview, Mick was asked if 'we'll see you in F1 in the future' and he replied 'hopefully'. Schumacher v Verstappen is the future of Formula 1, ladies and gentlemen.
13:23 Some history, Michael Schumacher has won this race the most times (6) and Ayrton Senna is next best with five wins. Back to Schumi, his son Mick did a demo run earlier at the track in his father's Benetton car.
13:20 Meanwhile, Fernando Alonso's future remains up in the air with the Spaniard admitting he has "some offers on the table" after being linked with Williams. The three-time champ says he has already rejected "60% of the offers", but the others are still on the table. In case you didn't know, that's 40%.
13:19 Oh yes, we said we will give you other bits and pieces. Well, here you go. It has been a Ferrari week as first they confirmed Raikkonen for the 2018 season and then they announced that Vettel has signed a new three-year deal that will take him until the 2020 season.
13:15 That was a mouthful. In case you were wondering, there are plenty of Dutch fans out there supporting Verstappen at his 'home race'. Of course it is Vandoorne's home race, but not too many supporters for the McLaren man as he will only start the race tomorrow due to the penalties. That's joke, if you didn't know.
13:14 Drivers who have dropped down the grid following qualy: Massa penalised five places for ignoring yellow flags in FP3, Palmer, Ericsson and Wehrlein penalised five places for unscheduled gearbox changes, Kvyat penalised 20 places for use of additional power unit elements and Vandoorne penalised 65 grid places for use of additional power unit elements plus an unscheduled gearbox change.
13:10 Romain Grosjean, Kevin Magnussen, Carlos Sainz, Lance Stroll, Jolyon Palmer, Felipe Massa, Marcus Ericsson, Pascal Wehrlein, Daniil Kvyat and Stoffel Vandoorne complete the grid.
13:08 After the Mercs and Ferraris you have the Toro Rossos of Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo with the former confident the Milton Keynes squad will be closer to the front two on race day. It's P7 for Nico Hulkenberg in the Renault with Sergio Perez's Force India P8 while Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso make up the top 10.
13:06 Next to him is the man leading the Championship by 14 points, Sebastian Vettel, and it's also a Merc-Ferrari combination on the second row as Valterri Bottas and Kimi Raikkonen are behind them.
13:05 Saturday's qualifying was all about Lewis Hamilton as he matched the great Michael Schumacher's record of 68 pole positions. The Mercedes driver took 200 races to achieve the feat while Schumacher's feat took 247 races. Equally impressive was Hamilton setting a new track record of 1:42.553.
13:01 We trust you enjoyed your summer/winter (delete where applicable) break. To be honest, for us it was a little too long, but we are well-rested and ready for the final nine races of the season. We'll get you up to speed with events from qualifying and other F1 bits and pieces in bit.
13:00 Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps. The race marks the 12th race of the 2017 Formula 1 season.
15:04 Verstappen out-qualifies Ricciardo for P5. Then comes Hulkenberg, Perez, Ocon and Palmer. Join us tomorrow for the all-important race!
15:03 But Vettel finds improvement and joins Hamilton on the front row! Bottas is in P3 and Raikkonen settles for P4 after making a mistake in the middle sector.
15:02 Bottas takes P2...for now.
15:00 He crosses the line and it is a 1.42:5 and a new track record!
14:58 Hamilton matches his time through the first sector and finds three tenths in the middle! He is flying!
14:56 Gearing up again for the final flying laps...Hamilton is first back out on track.
14:55 Verstappen and Ricciardo have adopted the usual third row positions in P5 and P6 respectively at the moment. With Palmer out of the equation, it leaves Perez, Ocon and Hulkenberg to squabble over the remaining places.
14:54 Hamilton lost three tenths in the middle sector, so even more time from him to come. This is looking pretty ominous.
14:53 Raikkonen is hanging on to his coat-tails in P2, but team-mate Vettel is down in P4 with Bottas splitting the two Ferraris in P3.
14:52 The yellows are not out for long and Hamilton takes provisional pole with a new track record - a 1:42.907!
14:50 Yellow flags! Palmer's Renault is smoking and with it, too, goes his hopes of challenging the top six.
14:48 Green lights. Raikkonen the first to show with Hamilton, Vettel and Bottas all following behind.
13:45 Here we go then! The top 10 shoot-out. Can Hamilton match Schumacher's record of 68 pole positions?
14:42 Out in Q2: Alonso, Grosjean, Magnussen, Sainz, Vandoorne.
14:41 "No power!" screams Alonso and his ruined hot lap proves costly as Hulkenberg puts him into the elimination zone.
14:40 Hamilton is the first driver to drop into the 1:42 to increase his advantage at the top. It's his pole position to lose at this stage.
14:37 Vandoorne is back out there, but it only appears to be to give Alonso a tow for his latest hot lap. Palmer has on track again just by the skin of his teeth.
14:35 Issues for Palmer at completely the wrong time. On his way back into the pits and the waybridge, his clutch has failed. Cue a mad dash from the Renault engineers to get him back to garage.
14:34 Current elimination zone: Hulkenberg, Magnussen, Grosjean, Sainz, Vandoorne.
14:33 Palmer once again puts himself into P7 and gets a nod of approval from Alain Prost in the Renault garage.
14:32 Vandoorne is going to start from the back of the grid anyway, but he is having to box after one out-lap in Q2. Doubt we will see him again this afternoon.
14:30 Raikkonen gets to within a tenth, with Bottas, in P3, a further tenth behind. Verstappen pips Vettel to P4 with Ricciardo closing out the top six at this stage. Very interesting.
14:29 Hamilton suffers from massive oversteer through Stavelot but manages to set a new track record with a 1:43.5. Much more time to come from the Brit.
14:27 Raikkonen still having trouble with vibrations but he is told on team radio that he is going to have to live with it for now.
14:26 Out come Hamilton and Bottas again for another run. Both have ditched the supers in favour of the ultrasoft tyres.
14:25 We're set for the battle to reach the top-10 shoot-out. McLaren showed in Q1 that much can be gained by giving each other a tow through toward the Bus Stop chicane. Maybe Mercedes and Ferrari will become engaged in a tactical battle.
14:18 Massa briefly gets out of trouble but vast improvement from Carlos Sainz, up to P9, puts the Brazilian out. That's yet another qualy session with both Williams car eliminated in Q1. Joining them are Kvyat, Ericsson and Wehrlein.
14:16 Grosjean climbs out of the elimination zone and puts Massa in more trouble with one minute of the session remaining.
14:12 An eye-catching time from Jolyon Palmer as he shoots up to P8 and is three tenths quicker than his team-mate Nico Hulkenberg. He needs plenty more where that came from if he is to keep his seat at Renault.
14:11 The last of the first hot laps are going up on board and currently in the elimination zone are: Grosjean, Kvyat, Stroll, Ericsson, Wehrlein.
14:09 Crowd favourite Verstappen climbs up to P3 and is two tenths slower on the quickest ultrasoft tyres. Hamilton, meanwhile, is going for a second hot lap and takes P1 again with a 1:44.1
14:07 Raikkonen goes P3, four tenths behind, and immediately comes in to box to allow his mechanics to take a closer look at his vibration problem.
14:05 Already there is barely anything to separate Mercedes and Ferrari, with all four drivers on supersoft tyres. Vettel has just gone four hundreths of a second quicker to take P1.
14:03 Hamilton just about keeps within track limits and has a scruffy finish to the lap, but still manages to set a 1:44.316. Team-mate Valtteri Bottas is four tenths down.
14:01 "Massive, massive vibrations on the rear," reports Raikkonen, who was the fastest driver in FP3. Meanwhile, Hamilton is wasting no time and is setting his first hot lap.
14:00 Here we go! The first 18-minute session is underway. The five slowest drivers will be eliminated ahead of Q2.
13:58 We're almost set for qualifying. Earlier in the week, there were reports that rain would be here this afternoon but that has not materialised. It's sunny and there is plenty of orange in the crowd supporting Max Verstappen.
13:50 Lewis Hamilton has another opportunity to match Michael Scumacher's record of 68 pole positions, but Ferrari have shown throughout the weekend so far that they and Mercedes are closely matched at Spa.
13:42 Felipe Massa has also picked up a five-place grid penalty for failing to slow down under double yellow flags. After crashing out in FP1, he is not having the best of returns after missing the Hungarian Grand Prix through illness.
13:40 The two back-markers for Sunday's race are pretty nailed on. Stoffel Vandoorne has a 65-place grid penalty coming into effect and Sauber's Marcus Ericsson has a five-place grid penalty for a changed gearbox.
13:34 Following the conclusion of FP3, Ferrari confirmed that Sebastian Vettel has signed a three-year extension with the team, ending speculation of a move to rivals Mercedes. The Scuderia now have Vettel and Raikkonen lining up for them next season for a fourth year in a row.
13:30 Welcome back to Spa for the first qualifying session since the summer break. We get underway again in 30 minutes.
12:02 That's it for now, join us in two hours for qualifying for the Belgian GP. Cheers.
12:01 The session ends with a 1-2 for Ferrari with Raikkonen ahead of Vettel. Hamilton is third, 0.001s slower than the German.
12:00 Chequered flag is out and FP3 is over...
11:58 Ericsson has finally set a lap time as he puts in a fourth lap for the morning. Sauber have not yet revealed what the issue was that kept him off the track.
11:55 Hamilton is slowly touring his way back into the pits - a problem or just enjoying the scenery? And out he goes so clearly not a problem.
11:54 Alonso is back inside the top ten as he goes P9.
11:52 Battle for P7 as Ocon takes it, Perez beats him and Palmer beats them both.
11:51 Grosjean is up to seventh and Magnussen P10. Not a bad showing from Haas.
11:50 His team-mate Stroll has just jumped up to seventh place on the ultras.
11:49 Massa is up to 15 laps and is holding down 15th place some four seconds off the pace.
11:47 Jolyon Palmer is currently best of the rest in seventh ahead of Fernando Alonso, Nico Hulkenberg and Sainz.
11:42 P2 for Vettel, who beats Hamilton's time by 0.001s!
11:41 New track record for Raikkonen with a 1:43.916! Hamilton is second, 0.198s down.
11:39 Ultrasoft lap for Ricciardo puts him P1 but with his first lap aborted due to Kvyat's yellow flags it must be said that he could yet go faster than the 1:45.2 he just posted. And he loses P1 to Verstappen by 0.252s.
11:36 Compounding the situation Kvyat's car is now on fire and is doused with a fire extinguisher. Clean up on isle 3!
11:35 "I lost the power guys, lost the power," he reported.
11:34 Ricciardo ventures out on a set of ultras as Kvyat breaks down on the side of the track which brings out the yellow flags and hurts Ricciardo's lap.
11:33 It is a practice session, it is a Grosjean radio message, and it is a brake complaint. Shock, horror!
11:29 Vettel makes it a Ferrari 1-2 as he jumps up to second place, 0.036s off the pace.
11:27 Raikkonen almost goes from hero to zero as he reports "I got sideways" which he did after touching the astroturf.
11:26 P1 for Raikkonen as he clocks a 1:45.422 - 0.058s up on Hamilton's best.
11:24 Vettel leaves the pits on a set of supersoft tyres as Verstappen crosses the line with a 1:46.107. That puts him P4.
11:23 Good news for Massa as he is already onto his seventh lap of the morning and all without problems.
11:20 Raikkonen goes second, 0.103s down, while Bottas is third after yet another lock up in the final sector. Sainz is fourth at the moment.
11:18 Supersoft tyres on Hamilton's car as he goes purple, purple and purple on his way to a 1:45.4. Not a bad opening lap!
11:13 A 1:48.4 for Kvyat who is joined by Bottas, Massa, Alonso, Hamilton and Lance Stroll.
11:11 Kvyat heads out in the Toro Rosso. He is told to "work a bit more on the front" and is weaving his way as he tries to put some heat into his tyres.
11:08 Gearbox penalties also await Marcus Ericsson and Pascal Wehrlein.
11:07 Bottas puts in an installation lap on a set of inters that look a bit abused after just one lap as it is not wet enough for inters and not quite dry enough for slicks. No sign yet of Hamilton.
11:04 Fernando Alonso reports an issue with his DRS and is told by McLaren that they already have a "fix" in place for when he pits.
11:02 Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo are braving the conditions on supersoft tyres while the rest of the field have ventured out on the intermediates as they check on the conditions.
11:00 Green and off we go with Kevin Magnussen, Pascal Wehrlein and Romain Grosjean the first three out on track.
10:56 The sun is out but with heavy rain overnight there are still a few damp patches out on the circuit.
10:52 The drivers have the ultrasofts, supersofts and soft Pirellis available this weekend with the ultras proving to be the quickest tyre on Friday. The tyre, though, didn't last for more than one flying lap with none of the drivers bettering their times on a second flier.
10:46 News just in is that Stoffel Vandoorne, the Belgian lad, is facing a 65-place grid penalty after two engine changes and a new gearbox. He'll be starting the race next week!
10:43 One driver in need of a good practice session is Felipe Massa. He crashed heavily at the start of FP1 and was then sidelined for the day's second practice as he needed a new chassis. Although Williams could have prepared that in time, in a rush but in time, rules dictated that it had to go through scrutineering which would only be done on Saturday morning. It was a very bad day for Massa.
10:36 Lewis Hamilton emerged as the one to beat on Friday as the Mercedes driver, who trails Sebastian Vettel by 14 points in the title race, clocked a 1:44.753 to beat the other Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen by 0.262s. Vettel was fifth with a 1:45.235 as he also lost out to Valtteri Bottas and Max Verstappen.
10:30 Welcome back to the Spa-Francorchamps circuit for the third and final practice hour for the Belgian Grand Prix weekend. All times are local.
15:32 That's it for today, join us on Saturday morning for the third and final practice for the Belgian GP weekend. Cheers.
15:31 The Brit's 1:44.7 stands as the time to beat while Raikkonen was second and Bottas third.
15:30 The chequered flag is out and FP2 ends with a a downpour, a whimper and a P1 for Hamilton.
15:24 Sauber aren't willing to take a chance in the rain and concede their practice session is over.
15:21 Alonso also has a try on the inters but pits after one lap - one rather difficult lap it must be said.
15:19 Ricciardo is aquaplanning his way around the circuit and is told to take it easy as he makes his way back to the pits.
15:18 A brave team as Red Bull head Ricciardo out on inters and he's already twitching in the pit lane. He pauses at the end of the pit lane to practice a start and struggles to keep the car in a straight line as he applies power.
15:15 Lots of rain, and little running, okay make that no running.
15:14 Just to be safe Renault have adopted the handy hand trick to see if it is really raining... and yip, the hand is wet. Must be rain!
14:11 One by one the drivers have all returned to the pits excluding Magnussen. And with that the Dane pits.
15:10 Williams and Stroll are in trouble as the latter used a set of tyres during the second part of FP1 that were only meant to be used in the first 40 minutes. Williams are facing a stewards meeting and most likely a fine.
15:06 Hulkenberg is also told to bring the car back to the pits with Renault saying there is nothing to be learned in these conditions.
15:05 Verstappen is told by Red Bull to box as with the rain starting to come down, Red Bull do not believe it is worth the risk staying out.
15:03 The drivers have been told to expect proper rainfall within in the next 10 minutes, for now it is just a few drops at one corner.
14:58 The threat of rain just become the rain as umbrellas go up and raincoats come out in the crowd.
14:55 Hulkenberg is holding down the best of the rest position in seventh place, 1.7s off the pace.
14:52 Sainz reports that he is only getting intermittent power so there's another problem for a Renault runner.
14:51 And with that Ricciardo ventures out and jumps up to sixth place, pushing Alonso out of the top ten.
14:48 Ricciardo is yet to venture out of the pits after pitting earlier with an engine issue.
14:45 Top ten: Hamilton; Raikkonen; Bottas; Verstappen; Vettel: Hulkenberg; Ocon; Sainz; Palmer and Alonso.
14:44 Alonso is up to tenth place but spent part of his lap off the circuit.
14:42 Kvyat is informed by Toro Rosso that there is "rain coming on the radar".
14:38 Raikkonen goes quickest and Hamilton beats that with a 1:44.753.
14:37 But here comes Hamilton...
14:36 Bottas is up through the second sector and goes quickest with a 1:45.1, beating Vettel by 0.055s.
14:35 The Mercedes team-mates are flying as Bottas clocks a 311.9 in the second speed trap.
14:33 And that heralds the arrival of several drivers who have swapped over to the ultras including Hamilton, Bottas, Vettel, Raikkonen and Verstappen.
14:31 Hulkenberg, Alonso and Palmer are the only three drivers out on track with the German jumping up to fourth place on the ultrasoft tyres. Palmer goes P6.
14:25 Neither Hamilton nor Bottas are able to better their times but given they are sitting 1 and 2 that's not a bad position to be in.
14:24 The engine cover has come off Ricciardo's RB13 so don't expect him out any time soon.
14:21 Perez complains about "dirty" Magnussen as the Haas blocks him.
14:20 Bottas, running the supersofts, makes it a Mercedes 1-2 as he is 0.6s shy of his team-mate's best.
14:19 A 1:45.6 for Hamilton on the soft tyres puts him P1 ahead of Vettel, whose best time was set on the supersofts.
14:18 Hamilton begins his first flying lap of the afternoon as Ricciardo pits are complaining about the driveability of his Renault engine.
14:14 Vettel has displaced Verstappen at the top of the timesheets with a 1:46.405. That is 0.076s quicker than the Dutchman's time.
14:13 The FIA have made it clear that Massa won't be able to run today as his new chassis has to go through scrutineering and that can/will only take place on Saturday morning.
14:09 Verstappen is into the 1:46s to lead the way.
14:08 A mistake from Vettel as he rides the kerbs at the entrance to Turn 9, which pushes his wide and costs him lap time.
14:06 Lap times coming through with Vandoorne leading on a 1:48.6 ahead of Palmer and Raikkonen, who lowers the benchmark to a 1:47.
14:02 A problem for Grosjean as he reports that his DRS is stuck in the open position. Magnussen has the same problem. The team-mates both pit as Raikkonen heads out in his Ferrari.
14:01 Haas are the first out with Magnussen leading Grosjean out of the pits.
14:00 FP2 begins under a blanket of cloud with a 20 percent chance of rain.
13:55 Five minutes to the start of FP2 for the Belgian Grand Prix...
13:49 Ferrari will continue to run their new suspension this session while Red Bull's revised rear wing is already ready to go.
13:41 A rundown of the top ten: 1 Kimi Raikkonen Ferrari 1:45.502 2 Lewis Hamilton Mercedes 1:45.555 0.053 3 Sebastian Vettel Ferrari 1:45.647 0.145 4 Max Verstappen Red Bull 1:46.302 0.8 5 Daniel Ricciardo Red Bull 1:46.352 0.85 6 Valtteri Bottas Mercedes 1:46.424 0.922 7 Carlos Sainz Toro Rosso 1:47.446 1.944 8 Esteban Ocon Force India 1:47.670 2.168 9 Daniil Kvyat Toro Rosso 1:47.851 2.349 10 Stoffel Vandoorne McLaren 1:47.865 2.363
13:36 The big news in the break between the practice sessions is that Felipe Massa, who crashed heavily in FP1, may not take part in this session as Williams discovered he needs a new chassis. Massa, who was cleared on Thursday to race again after he missed the Hungarian Grand Prix through illness, took too much kerb on entry and his Williams car snapped out as a result. He hit the barrier, causing significant damage to the left side of his FW40.
13:30 Welcome back to Spa-Francorchamps for the second of Friday's two 90-minute practice sessions. All times are local.
11:30 And there's the chequered flag with Raikkonen putting down a tentative early marker in Spa. Join us again at 1400 local time for FP2.
11:26 Raikkonen has gone quickest on the ultras but is just five hundreths of a second quicker than Hamilton's best time on softs.
11:24 Not too much damage to Bottas' car as he is back out again with five minutes of the session remaining. Raikkonen has also re-emerged.
11:19 Heart in the mouth moment for Stroll who almost loses control through Les Combes.
11:15 Vettel matches Hamilton through the first two sectors and gets to within a tenth of his title rival at the end of the lap to fly up to P2. That's more like it.
11:11 Verstappen goes five hundredths of a second quicker than his team-mate Ricciardo to rise up to P2. World Championship leader Vettel is having a quiet session down in P8 but does have the ultrasofts strapped on now.
11:08 Hamilton is soon back on top with a 1:45.555 on soft tyres. Seven tenths quicker than Ricciardo's quickest time on ultras.
11:05 Bottas, just seconds after setting the fastest lap, has compromised his session after glancing the tyre wall when trying to get out of the way of another driver on a hot lap.
11:04 Sainz misses the apex at Turn 4 but still manages to go sixth fastest on ultrasoft tyres.
11:01 A wall of Ferrari mechanics are trying their best to block the cameras from getting a closer look at Raikkonen's car. The nose is completely off and there is an awful lot of fiddling going on.
10:56 With 33 minutes left, Ocon is the only driver out on track as the cars go through tyre changes and a few tweaks.
10:50 Massa has said he simply lost the car on entry at Malmedy and the incident has nothing to do with the after-effects of his illness.
10:45 It doesn't look like Pascal Wehrlein will be getting a run-out this morning. There is an ERS problem with his Sauber.
10:42 "Find me a gap," says Hamilton on team radio. His wish is Mercedes' command as he swiftly goes fastest again by posting a 1:46.4.
10:40 Ricciardo sets the new benchmark with a 1:46.4, two tenths quicker than Raikkonen in his Ferrari.
10:34 Alonso is back out on track but he is still reporting issues with his MCL32. It's already turning into a morning to forget for McLaren.
10:32 A whole host of times are now up on the board with Hamilton currently quickest with a 1:47.4 on supersoft tyres. In behind him are Ricciardo and Verstappen who have both opted for ultras. They are two and three tenths slower respectively.
10:30 A reminder of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix as a headrest has come loose on the restart. It's on Kevin Magnussen's Haas as opposed to Hamilton's Merc in Baku.
10:26 The clean-up operation is complete and the track is clear again. There should be a flurry of activity now with that lost time.
10:20 Massa took too much kerb on entry and completely lost the rear of the car. He is now in the medical car but he looked OK walking away from his Williams. He was only cleared yesterday to race again after suffering from vertigo, which forced him to miss the last race in Hungary.
10:17 Woah! Out of nowhere, Felipe Massa has crashed at Melmedy and gone flying into the tyre wall. His Williams car is a real mess and the session has been red-flagged.
10:15 A tidy first timed lap from Ocon who posts a 1:48.9. That is only six tenths slower than the quickest FP1 time from last year.
10:12 We're still awaiting our first timed lap of the morning. Esteban Ocon, who is now 12 months into his Formula 1 career, is the only driver out on track at the moment.
10:08 Meanwhile, Hamilton is also back in the garage and the Halo has been promptly taken off.
10:06 "No power, no power" reports Alonso. Well that didn't take long, did it? The McLaren garage have identified the issue and need the Spaniard to nurse the car back to the pits.
10:04 Hamilton is also running the Halo and has just completed an extraction test which was timed by an FIA official. He did manage to get out within the 10 second benchmark.
10:00 We have green lights and a few drivers are eager to get on with their installation laps. The early bunch contains Vandoorne who has the Halo strapped on. It doesn't look any nicer.
09:57 We're almost set with drivers going through their final prep before they blow away the cobwebs from the summer break.
09:47 There is rain forecast over the course of the weekend, but FP1 is going to be dry at least. It's a cool, sunny morning at Spa.
09:45 Vandoorne is also one of three drivers set to run the controversial Halo cockpit safety device this morning, alongside Marcus Ericsson - who incidentally has a five-place penalty to come for a gearbox change - and Lewis Hamilton. Both Hamilton and Bottas have new power units fitted at a track which is expected to suit them much more than Hungary did.
09:40 The good news did not last long for Vandoorne, though, as he is set for a 35-place grid penalty at his home grand prix due to yet another change in engine. Both he and Fernando Alonso, who is yet to resolve his future, are running upgraded power units this weekend.
09:34 As summer breaks go, it has been a pretty quiet one in terms of drivers confirming their futures. The latest to sign up for another year with their respective teams are Stoffel Vandoorne at McLaren and Kimi Raikkonen at Ferrari.
09:30 Formula 1 is back! Hello and welcome along to our live coverage of FP1 for the Belgian Grand Prix at the iconic Spa-Francorchamps circuit. The 90-minute session gets underway at 1000 local time.
