26 Jun 07:12 Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo wins Formula 1's Azerbaijan Grand Prix ahead of Valtteri Bottas and Lance Stroll in a race marred by numerous incidents.
25 Jun 17:18 Thanks for joining our live updates of an enthralling Grand Prix from the streets of Baku. The next race is in Austria on July 9.
25 Jun 17:11 Phenomenal race, driver of the day? Lance Stroll for keeping it going despite all that went on around him.
25 Jun 17:08 Hang on! Bottas clipped Stroll on the line! The Finn takes second and the F1 rookie third.
25 Jun 17:07 Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo wins the Azerbaijan GP, his 5th F1 win, ahead of Lance Stroll and Valtteri Bottas.
25 Jun 17:06 Final lap.
25 Jun 17:02 Vettel slots in a fastest lap of the race: 1:43.441.
25 Jun 16:59 Alonso: "I have no battery, no power."
25 Jun 16:53 44/51: Ricciardo, Stroll, Bottas, Vettel and Hamilton are your top 5 drivers at the moment.
25 Jun 16:52 Perez has retired, that's a disappointing result for the Mexican.
25 Jun 16:45 Vettel slips past Magnussen up to P5.
25 Jun 16:45 13 laps to go.
25 Jun 16:44 Apologies, Magnussen is in P5, they have to pass him first.
25 Jun 16:44 Vettel and Hamilton closing in on Bottas in P4.
25 Jun 16:43 Vettel in P6, Hamilton just 0.6 secs behind.
25 Jun 16:37 34/51: Ricciardo leads by 3 seconds over Lance Stroll.
25 Jun 16:37 Vettel rejoins ahead of Hamilton, the German is P7 and Hamilton P8.
25 Jun 16:35 Vettel leads  but has to stop for the penalty (10 sec).
25 Jun 16:32 Vettel handed 10 sec STOP/GO for driving into Hamilton under the SC. Drama!
25 Jun 16:32 The leader will come back out in 6th place.
25 Jun 16:31 Hamilton will box for another head rest.
25 Jun 16:26 23 laps to go in Baku in this stop/start race. Hamilton leads Vettel by 2.2sec.
25 Jun 16:23 Raikkonen and Perez are under investigation for their teams working outside of the fast line under the red flag.
25 Jun 16:22 The German hit the wall, thus the damage! Ouch.
25 Jun 16:21 Hulkenberg's front right tyre is in trouble, he's out of the race.
25 Jun 16:20 Raikkonen and Perez are one lap down on the rest of the field.
25 Jun 16:19 Ricciardo pulls off an amazing move and climbs to P3.
25 Jun 16:18 We're racing in Baku. Hamilton goes hard onto the gas.
25 Jun 16:17 SC in on this lap.
25 Jun 16:16 Race restarts from behind the SC.
25 Jun 16:14 Race restart coming up in one minute.
25 Jun 16:14 Another car has come back to life! Perez will rejoin the race too.
25 Jun 16:13 Kimi Raikkonen will rejoin the race.
25 Jun 16:06 9 mins to go.
25 Jun 16:05 Race will restart at 4:15pm.
25 Jun 15:58 Hamilton to his engineer: "Vettel just literally came along side me and turned into me"
Finish After all that, Vettel increases his World Championship lead slightly to 14 points. Austria cannot come soon enough. See you again in a couple of weeks!
Finish Alonso collects McLaren-Honda's first points of the season in P9 with Sainz just up ahead in P8. Wehrlein completes the points finishes.
Finish Vettel and Hamilton finish P4 and P5 respectively after chaotic races. Ocon comes home sixth with Magnussen seventh.
Finish And Bottas gets second on the line! Stroll completes the podium.
Finish Daniel Ricciardo wins a crazy Azerbaijan Grand Prix!
Lap 51 Last lap! Ricciardo out in front, Stroll holding off Bottas and Vettel keeping Hamilton at bay.
Lap 50 Hamilton has got the gap to Vettel down to one second... a chance for a pass with DRS?
Lap 49 Raikkonen, who was a lap down, has now retired, leaving 13 drivers left on track with two laps remaining.
Lap 48 Vettel's Ferrari steps out on him at Turn 1 and just about keeps it all together. Stroll does not want to look in the mirrors. He'll be able to see Bottas, Vettel and Hamilton right behind him!
Lap 47 Hamilton wants Bottas to back Vettel up but that is not going to happen whilst P2 is still up for grabs for the Finn.
Lap 45 Further down the field, Vandoorne is catching up with two Saubers. Find a way past those and McLaren-Honda are on for a double points finish with Alonso in P8. As if this race wasn't crazy enough...
Lap 44 Bottas is banging in fastest lap after fastest lap in P3. He is 9.2s behind Stroll with 7 laps to go.
Lap 43 Meanwhile, Ricciardo is 5.4s clear out in front. On Lap 6, he was 17th!
Lap 43 But Hamilton just about gets the job done around the outside at Turn 1 on the next lap to rise to P5.
Lap 42 Vettel is up to P4 after getting the better of Ocon at Turn 1 with nine laps to go. Hamilton, though, is finding it much harder to get past the Force India which is equipped with the same Mercedes engine.
Lap 41 Perez has now definitely retired with a cracked seat. Bottas sets the new fastest lap of the race and would catch Stroll in P2 if he can keep that pace up.
Lap 40 Bottas is back on the podium as it stands! He finds away around the outside of Perez down at Turn 1 and heads off in pursuit of Stroll and Ricciardo with 11 laps to go.
Lap 39 Now Magnussen drops to P7 as Vettel and Hamilton are next to launch their attacks at the first couple of corners.
Lap 38 Heartbreak for Magnussen as he falls from P3 to P5 with Ocon and Bottas both flying past at Turn 1. Bottas could go from being a lapped car to a podium finish!
Lap 36 Vettel and Hamilton both find a way past Alonso who falls down into P8. Up ahead next for the title rivals is Bottas. Two Mercs against one Ferrari? How will this play out?
Lap 35 And Magnussen is currently up in third!
Lap 35 16 laps remaining with Bottas, Alonso, Vettel and Hamilton all squabbling for fifth at the moment.
Lap 34 Ricciardo, out in front, has a three second advantage over Stroll in P2. Didn't think that would typed out today.
Lap 33 In comes Vettel... and he comes out in P7, in front of the lapped Perez with Hamilton right behind the Force India.
Lap 32 Hamilton comes back out in P9 with headrest firmly fitted and catches Sainz on the next lap to rise up one place. Vettel is due to serve his penalty but will come out ahead of Hamilton.
Lap 32 But Vettel has a 10-second stop/go penalty for dangerous driving in the Hamilton incident! What drama! We have Ricciardo and Stroll battling it out for race victory!
Lap 31 "Box, box, box" Hamilton is told. What a nightmare! Hamilton will come back out in sixth at the very least. This is going to hurt.
Lap 30 Hamilton is being told to knock it back into place but he's actually making it worse. The pit crew are standing by with a new one. This could ruin his race.
Lap 29 Hamilton's headrest is loose! He might have to come in and pit again. Something he was not planning on doing again...
Lap 29 Bottas is back into the top 10 and is just 15 seconds off a podium spot. We're barely beyond halfway of the race!
Lap 28 Hamilton has opened up a 2.2s gap on Vettel as we await a verdict from the stewards on their incident behind the Safety Car.
Lap 27 Raikkonen and Perez may be back in the race, but they'll be both under investigation for the work that went on in their cars during that red flag period.
Lap 25 Now problems for Hulkenberg! It looks like a broken suspension and he is out of the race. Both Renaults are done. And Massa has been told to retire the car too.
Lap 25 And Magnussen completes the same move on the next lap to rise up to P5! There is definitely something wrong with Massa's car, even Alonso has got past and into P7.
Lap 24 Away we go! Again! And what a move from Ricciardo! He slides down the inside of Massa and Stroll at Turn 1 and takes P3! Vettel, meanwhile, is keeping tabs on Hamilton.
Lap 23 Safety Car in this lap, just as Massa reports a problem with his car in P3.
Lap 23 We're getting back underway and it's behind the Safety Car again.
Red flag Wow! Back from the dead is Kimi Raikkonen! They have changed the floor of his Ferrari in the red flag period and is being wheeled back out of the pits. Perez is back as well!
Red flag Race will restart in 10 minutes!
Red flag The mechanics are performing forensic searches on the cars, picking out nasty bits of debris. Meanwhile, and rather unsurprisingly, the stewards are looking into that incident with Hamilton and Vettel. Penalties incoming?
Lap 23 Watching the Hamilton/Vettel incident again, Vettel loses the front wing end plate after Hamilton suddenly brakes behind the Safety Car and Vettel goes up alongside Hamilton and barges into him!
Lap 22 And there is the red flag! All the remaining cars are returning to the pit lane.
Lap 22 Alonso, in P8, is calling for a red flag, saying there is too much debris out on track.
Lap 22 This, all of a sudden, looks very good for Williams with Massa and Stroll running in P3 and P4 respectively. Vettel, in P2, looks vulnerable after damaging his front wing when bumping into the back of Hamilton just as the Safety Car was peeling in.
Lap 21 As the track clean-up operation begins again, Perez and Raikkonen have both had to retire. We're down to 15 drivers.
Lap 20 Another Safety Car! The two Force Indias have collided with each other and both have picked up substantial damage. The fall-out from Canada rolls on! And Raikkonen has a puncture from the debris which came off Vettel's front wing!
Lap 20 What drama! Hamilton backs up the field and Vettel slams his nose into the back of him! Vettel is under attack from Perez and Massa but Vettel somehow manages to keep P2!
Lap 19 Bottas is no longer last as he managed to pass Wehrlein in that very short restart. The SC is coming in once again this lap...
Lap 18 The cars are passing through the pit lane as the track is cleared down on the entry to Turn 1.
Lap 17 Another Safety Car! And that's because of the bits of debris flying off Raikkonen's car from the earlier damage sustained in the first lap incident with Bottas. He is limping around in P6 at the moment.
Lap 17 We're back underway and it's Perez trying to launch a sensational attack on Vettel down the back straight! But the World Championship leader just about holds on into Turn 1!
Lap 16 We're waiting for Bottas to finish unlapping himself and catch up to the back of Wehrlein, but even at full pace he is still having trouble getting his temps up. The Safety Car is in this lap...
Lap 16 Kvyat's car, which had electrical issues, has finally been cleared by the stewards.
Lap 15 Hamilton is not happy with the speed of the Safety Car as he tries to keep his brakes and tyres up to temp. He will be preparing himself for an attack from Vettel, who is waiting to pounce from P2.
Lap 14 But he has now...and comes back out in P7.
Lap 14 No, your eyes are not playing tricks on you, that is Stroll up in P3. He is, however, yet to pit.
Lap 13 Mechanics are working frantically to try and get Verstappen back going again but their efforts are in vain. That's four retirements in his last six races. Sigh.
Lap 13 And the Safety Car is out due to Kvyat's stranded car. Hamilton and Vettel, Perez and Raikkonen, are all in the pits.
Lap 12 But more reliability issues for Verstappen! He has another loss of engine power and is falling back through the pack. What a nightmare season this is turning into for the Dutchman.
Lap 11 A lovely battle developing between Perez in P3 and Verstappen who is just half a second behind...
Lap 11 Now Kvyat has come to a stop in Sector 2 where the yellows are waving.
Lap 10 Ericsson then gets swallowed up by Sainz and Ricciardo down that huge start/finish and he falls away to P15.
Lap 10 Fernando Alonso gets past Marcus Ericsson and is up to 12th from 19th on the grid.
Lap 9 Even more problems for Palmer! He's been told to "switch off" the car after he spotted wisps of smoke coming out the back of his Renault. Another weekend to forget for the Brit as he crawls back to the pits.
Lap 8 Vettel is trying to respond, though, as he goes fastest through the first two sectors on his latest lap. Meanwhile, Ricciardo eases past Wehrlein to skip up to P15.
Lap 7 Bottas has had a new nose fitted but is a lap down on the field. A disastrous start for the Finn, but his team-mate Hamilton has opened up a 2.9 second lead out in front.
Lap 6 Ricciardo has pitted very early and it's not a particular quick stop early. He re-emerges in P17.
Lap 5 Vandoorne and Alonso both make their way past Wehrlein to rise up to P14 and P15 respectively.
Lap 3 Verstappen, in P4, believes he has a damaged radiator after picking up some debris, while Raikkonen reports the rear of his car "does not feel good" after contact with Bottas.
Lap 2 Carlos Sainz span out after team-mate Daniil Kvyat ran wide and Daniel Ricciardo also dropped places as well. A manic start!
Lap 1 But Bottas and Raikkonen come into contact at Turn 2. There's substantial damage to the Mercedes with a new front wing needed. Raikkonen has dropped down to P4 and Vettel has jumped up to P2!
Lap 1 GO! GO! GO! Lewis Hamilton gets his nose in front on the very short dash to the first corner with Valtteri Bottas squeezing through in second place..
17:00 Formation lap is underway...
16:59 All the drivers are on the supersoft option to star with bar Grosjean, Ericsson and Vandoorne, who are all on the softs.
16:55 51 laps await us this afternoon. We're almost set for the formation lap.
16:45 It's national anthem time...
16:40 It's still very warm and sunny in Baku with track temperature at 49 degrees. Pirelli are largely expecting a one-stop strategy this afternoon.
16:31 The pit lane is now open and the cars are beginning their run around the second-longest circuit on the F1 calendar before lining up on the grid. 30 minutes until lights out.
16:30 And there is more woe for both McLaren-Honda drivers who have racked up the penalties this weekend with various engine and gearbox changes. Stoffel Vandoorne will start P18 after a 35-place grid penalty and Fernando Alonso is P19 with a 40-place grid penalty.
16:24 It is usually Sauber that are propping up the rest of the field, but the under-pressure Jolyon Palmer is bringing up the rear after a fuel leak in FP3 prevented him from taking part in qualifying.
16:18 At Toro Rosso, Daniil Kvyat and Carlos Sainz were unable to qualify inside the top 10 for a second consecutive race. The latter will start in P15 after being slapped with a three-place grid penalty for causing a collision in Canada.
16:16 And Lance Stroll will be hoping to build momentum after following up from his success in his home country by outqualifying Felipe Massa for the first time this season. They start P8 and P9 respectively.
16:14 Esteban Ocon, starting P7, will be hoping to find a way past his team-mate Perez after a controversial race between the pair in Canada.
16:12 Max Verstappen was also left frustrated in P5 as the gremlins continued to attack his RB13. He felt he had the pace to qualify to get ahead of the Ferraris, but will have to line-up on the third row alongside Sergio Perez in the Force India.
16:10 Vettel has had to switch to an old engine which has completed the first four races of the season and is getting toward the end of its life span. It is also less powerful than the current spec engine that Raikkonen has. An uphill task awaits for the World Championship leader.
16:06 With Mercedes locking down the front row with ease, Ferrari are left with a lot of work to do in today's race. Kimi Raikkonen will start in third spot, while Vettel suffered his worst qualifying of season and had to settle for P4 after a interrupted race weekend due to mechanical problems.
16:04 Lewis Hamilton clipped Sebastian Vettel's World Championship lead to 12 points in Canada, helped by a stunning pole lap. It was a similar story on Saturday in Baku, with the Brit finishing four tenths clear of his team-mate Valtteri Bottas and over a second clear of the rest of the field. He is once again the man to beat.
16:00 Hello and welcome along to round 8 of the 2017 season: the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Lights out in one hour...
18:13 Verstappen and Perex complete the third row and rounding out the top 10 are Ocon, Stroll, Massa and Ricciardo. Join us for the race tomorrow!
18:11 Kimi Raikkonen clinches P3 and out-qualifies Vettel who has to settle for P4. The Ferrari way off the pace!
18:10 Pole position for Hamilton! He pings a 1:40.5 which is four tenths quicker than Bottas in P2.
18:09 And the second...
18:07 Hamilton is quickest through the first sector...
18:05 Verstappen wins the race to the front of the pit lane queue and has been told to turn his engine up if one of the Mercs behind tries a pass.
18:03 Session to restart at 18:05.
17:59 Ricciardo's car is in the process of being recovered.
17:57 So Q3 is suspended with 3:33 left on the clock. Time for two more hot laps but you will have to be right at the front of the pit lane to cram them in.
17:56 Red flag! Just as Hamilton sets the fastest first sector! It's Ricciardo who has lost the rear at Turn 6.
17:55 Hamilton toys with the idea of coming in for new tyres but is going to stay out instead. "The vibration is not that bad," he reports.
17:54 Verstappen slots into P3 as Vettel runs off at Turn 2. Work to do for the World Championship leader.
17:53 Bottas sets the opening benchmark with a 1:41.2 and Hamilton looks on course to smash it. However he runs wide at Turn 16 and ends up one tenth behind is team-mate in P2.
17:52 Warm up laps to begin with and plenty of weaving around as the battle to get the tyres up to temp starts.
17:49 Bottas is first out on track with Ricciardo and Hamilton in close quarters.
17:48 Strap yourselves in...it's top 10 shoot-out time!
17:41 Out in Q2: Kvyat, Sainz, Magnussen, Hulkenberg, Wehrlein.
17:40 Checkered flag....Sainz cannot improve from P12 but both Force Indias ensure they are through to Q3. Bottas climbs to within two tenths of Hamilton and nudges Vettel down to P3.
17:39 Improvement from Kvyat but he is still one tenth away from getting into the top 10. Vettel, now up to P2, also finds extra but is still six tenths behind Hamilton.
17:38 Hulkenberg, in P14, is definitely out. The car is in the garage and he's jumped out of his Renault.
17:37 Meanwhile, Ricciardo goes P5 and is within one second of pace-setter Hamilton.
17:35 Vettel, down in P8, is inching closer to the drop zone and is heading out for another run.
17:34 Wow! Hamilton finds an extra seven tenths to set a new fastest time: a 1:41.275. A clear warning shot ahead of FP3.
17:32 6 minutes left and in the drop zone at the moment are: Sainz, Kvyat, Hulkenberg, Wehrlein, Magnussen.
17:31 There's more mechanical issues for Verstappen it seems as he complains about high revs. His garage will be scrambling for a quick fix. The Dutchman is currently P5.
17:29 We're on board with Massa and he almost loses the car to the barriers not once, not twice, but three times! Nerve-racking viewing. He is currently down in P5 with Hamilton setting the benchmark once again with a 1:41.9.
17:25 Now time for the fight to make the top 10 shoot-out. Another five drivers will be eliminated in this 15-minute session.
17:20 Out in Q1: Alonso, Grosjean, Ericsson, Vandoorne, Palmer
17:18 Kevin Magnussen scrapes through to Q2 at the death and pushes Fernando Alonso into the elimination zone.
17:16 Very small improvement from Grosjean, but it is not enough to get him out of the elimination zone at this stage.
17:14 Grosjean, Magnussen, Vandoorne and Ericsson are currently in the danger zone as Bottas rises to P5 with his first hot lap.
17:13 Hamilton dips into the 1:41 barrier and keeps a half a second advantage over the improving Verstappen in P2.
17:11 Vettel slots into P4, seven tenths off the pace.
17:09 Verstappen is back on top...but not for long. Hamilton goes fourth tenths quicker to post a best time of 1:42.3. Eight minutes of Q1 remaining.
17:07 All drivers are on the supersoft tyre option.
17:07 Raikkonen finds an extra three hundreths of a second to nip ahead of Perez in P1.
17:05 Sergio Perez jumps to the top of the standings with a 1:43.4 as Carlos Sainz runs off at Turn 2. Grip still a big problem at the moment.
17:02 With a mountain of penalties piling up for McLaren-Honda, it is expected that Alonso and Vandoorne will do just one run each in qualifying.
17:01 Vettel and Verstappen are among the first drivers to emerge. A quick check for both of them to make sure everything is in order following their disrupted FP3.
17:00 Green light! Let's go!
16:59 It may be early evening but it is still very hot in Baku with the track temp currently reading 48 degrees. Getting those tyres working will be really difficult.
16:58 Q1 is 18 minutes long and we will lose another four drivers in this session with Palmer already eliminated.
16:52 And news of another penalty for Vandoorne. His gearbox has been changed so that's another five-place penalty which takes him to 35 for the weekend.
16:50 Christian Horner has just confirmed that Max Verstappen's car is ready for qualifying after the garage fixed his hydraulic problem. Hopefully there will not a repeat of that in Q1 which starts in 10 minutes.
16:45 Penalty reminders: Fernando Alonso has a 40-place penalty for various engine changes and Stoffel Vandoorne has accumulated a 30-place penalty for the same reason. Carlos Sainz will suffer a three-place drop after causing a collision in Canada.
16:37 And it has just been confirmed that Jolyon Palmer, who is desperately in need of a good performance, will miss qualifying altogether after his car was left in tatters following the sudden fire in FP3.
16:35 Vettel has had to change back to his first power unit after an hydraulics issue limited his FP3 running, but the World Championship leader has not incurred any penalties for switching to an old engine.
16:33 Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen, leader of the first two practice sessions, have both been victims of mechnical issues and Lewis Hamilton is yet to get into a rhythm. With that trio seemingly on the back foot, will this be a fight between Valtteri Bottas, Kimi Raikkonen and Daniel Ricciardo?
16:30 Hello and welcome to what is arguably the most unpredictable qualifying session of the season in Baku. After a bonkers practice, picking a pole-sitter at this stage is very difficult. Q1 gets underway in 30 minutes.
15:03 That's it for now, join us in two hours for qualifying. Cheers.
15:02 FP3 ends with a P1 for Bottas, Raikkonen is second and Hamilton third.
15:00 The chequered flag is out but any driver on a hot lap can complete it...
14:59 Stroll is up an escape road but can't get his Williams into reverse. And finally he does it.
14:57 Ricciardo has jumped up to fourth place and Ocon is another late improver, P5 for the Force India driver. Kyat is up to eighth.
14:55 If you're wondering about McLaren, Alonso is P14 and Vandoorne P15. They are 1.9 and 2.4s off the pace respectively.
14:53 Grosjean meets the wall but it is a glancing blow and he continues on his way.
14:50 Problems for Verstappen, who reports that "everything just switched off." He has ground to a halt on the side of the track along the main straight.
14:49 Ferrari take control with Raikkonen the new P1 man, nope it's Bottas (again). The P1 time is down to a 1:42.742.
14:48 Turn 8 may have been changed but Massa reports that he "almost crashed". And now we have a three-point turn for Kvyat as he works his way out of an escape road.
14:47 Change again as Bottas goes quickest, 1:43.057, and Hamilton improves his time but can't edge his team-mate. He is 0.101s down.
14:45 Bottas has closed the gap to 0.082s while Verstappen is up to third. Friday's pace-setter, though, is over a quarter of a second off the pace.
14:41 Hamilton finds the extra pace with a 1:43.3 and goes P1. Bottas also ups the pace but stays second, 0.299s down
14:39 Hamilton on the supersofts also fails to beat his soft tyre time.
14:38 Vettel's car seems to be leaking coolant, which means his session could be over.
14:36 Mercedes have made the switch to the supersoft tyres with Bottas flying, personal best in the first sector, up through the second but he loses time in the third and fails to beat his previous best.
14:35 Vettel is told to box "same issue" and he makes his way back to the Ferrari garage.
14:34 Friday's pace-setter Verstappen is down in 15th place on the soft tyres, 2.7s down, while Ricciardo is three-tenths slower than his team-mate.
14:29 Hamilton improves to fifth place with the Mercedes drivers the only ones inside the top ten running the soft tyres. And Bottas is still P1!
14:26 Yellow flags for Magnussen as he gets it wrong at Turn 2. Nothing new there as the drivers are really struggling for grip.
14:24 Vettel is in the garage with several Ferrari mechanics starring at the rear of his car which is sans its engine cover.
14:23 Force India are getting involved in the tussle at the front with Perez second, Ocon third. They are half a second behind Bottas.
14:22 Another new P1 for Bottas, a 1:43.7. And a P2 for Kvyat.
14:20 A 1:44.5 for Bottas, Hamilton slots into second and Perez is third ahead of Raikkonen. The Mercs, though, are on the soft tyres!
14:17 New name in P1 as Bottas posts a 1:47.262 as the yellow flags at Turn 2 are lifted.
14:16 Verstappen is up to second, 0.9s down on Kvyat, who used the red-marked supers for his P1 time.
14:15 All 19 runners still in the game are out on track but so far just six times on the board.
14:14 Hamilton is not entirely happy with his W08 and reports a sluggish turbo.
14:13 Hamilton and Bottas have taken to the circuit along with Vettel and the Red Bull pairing. Softs for all except Vettel, who has gone straight to the supersofts.
14:11 Kvyat is told to try keep his tyres up to temperature, which isn't easy given that the yellow flags are still up for Palmer's burned Renault.
14:10 More times coming through with Kvyat quickest with a 1:47.7.
14:08 The marshals are drowning the RS17 in fire retardant foam. Replays show the fire was coming from the left rear of the car.
14:07 Palmer is out! His Renault is on fire and that is game over for the Renault driver.
14:05 First time is a rather slow 1:53 for Palmer. The Renault driver binned his car in FP2 so this is his first lap time since the repairs were made.
14:04 Hamilton, Alonso and Hulkenberg - with Alonso running Honda's older spec engine - are the next out with Stroll and Sainz also leaving the pits.
14:03 Grosjean will be hoping that Haas have resolved the brake issue that hampered him on Friday. He was stone last in FP2 after complaining about his brakes. Haas conceded that there was an issue, changed the brakes, but the problem persisted.
14:01 Palmer, Vandoorne and Wehrlein are the first drivers out followed by Magnussen, Vettel, Ericsson, Raikkonen, Grosjean, Bottas and Ricciardo.
14:00 The pit lane light is green and FP3 is underway in Baku...
13:54 Lewis Hamilton, who was only P10 on Friday, is making his way to the Mercedes garage while Verstappen, the pace-setter, is already in the Red Bull garage chatting with his crew.
13:49 The track temperature is a sweltering 55'C with 10 minutes to go to the start of FP3.
13:43 So McLaren are guaranteed a back of the grid start as Fernando Alonso's penalty count has risen to 40 while Stoffel Vandoorne has a 30-place drop.
13:36 We'd like to say Friday's practices belonged to Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing but in truth they were all about the escape roads, the yellow flags and two crashes at Turn 8. The latter has promoted a change to the inside kerb with the line altered and the kerb now painted, instead of raised plastic. Will this help the drivers? We'll find out soon enough.
13:30 Welcome back to Baku for the Azerbaijan weekend's third and final practice session. All times are local.
18:32 That's it for today, join us tomorrow for FP3 and qualifying for the Azerbaijan GP. Cheers.
18:30 The chequered flag is out with Verstappen in the barrier at Turn 1. He got it wrong, started spinning into Turn 1 and whacked the wall. Game over - and session over.
18:29 Verstappen in the barriers!
18:27 Mercedes have called an early end to their day as both Hamilton and Bottas are in the garage with work going on.
18:25 A lock up for Vandoorne as he goes down an escape road.
18:24 Ricciardo is informed that his rivals are finding pace as their tyres wear.
18:23 Bottas is back in the pits with another flat spot. That's his third for the day.
18:20 Alonso and his stricken McLaren have fallen to 12th place.
18:19 If you are wondering where Hamilton is, well he is down in 10th place, 1.1s off the pace. he has a close encounter with Raikkonen as the Finn dives up the inside and Hamilton has to take avoiding action.
18:16 Don't expect any changes at the front as the drivers have switched to race simulations.
18:14 Improvements from both Sauber drivers leaves Grosjean bottom of the timesheets.
18:11 Hamilton, who is P10, is down the Turn 1 escape road.
18:09 Ricciardo has moved up to third place as Red Bull are once again looking good.
18:05 While saying a lot, Grosjean says "I don't know what to say". He's back in the pits for more work on his brake-by-wire system.
18:01 Alonso is slowly touring around the circuit, takes a short cut over the kerbs, and eventually pulls over and parks it. His words "engine, engine."
18:00 A bit of advice for Ricciardo from his engineer: "When you get to Turn 8, I would advise staying very far to left of the exit."
17:59 This may comes as a surprise, if you haven't noticed yet, but Stroll is P5 and on merit!
17:57 The session has barely started and Ocon is up an escape road, yellow flags are waving and it is the same story, just a new chapter.
17:55 The red flag has been removed and we have Ricciardo and Raikkonen practicing starts on their way out.
17:47 The red flags are out.
17:46 And Palmer is in the Perez wall. Not quite as bad as Perez's crash but alas the car is broken. "All ok with the car, Jo" "No, hit the wall"
17:45 Now we have Hamilton and Verstappen when just moments earlier it was Bottas and Alonso.
17:44 Traffic down the escape road, kid you not. Massa is blocking in Vettel who was the first off. Vettel tries to reverse only to realise that Massa is behind him. Both pull out - into oncoming traffic - and continue.
17:43 Grosjean declares "that's it" and you can't honestly blame him.
17:42 Verstappen is back on top, a 1:43.3 for the Red Bull driver.
17:39 Vettel is on a much improved lap, personal best in the first, purple in the second and personal in the third. He goes P1 with a 1:43.6.
17:37 Pace-setter Verstappen bolts on a set of supersofts and leaves the pits. Hamliton is also out as more drivers swap to the red tyres.
17:35 A marshal does the 10m dash to retrieve the bits of hoarding, thus clearing the track. The VSC is lifted.
17:34 Yellow flags are waved as one of the drivers has tagged the wall, spewing filling onto the circuit. It's Kvyat, who tagged it with his rear right. VSC is out.
17:32 Vettel on the reds is up to tenth place, that wasn't much of an improvement for the Ferrari driver.
17:31 A lock up for Verstappen, not the first of the evening and not the last. He avoids the wall. That was a close call.
17:29 Vettel leaves the pits on a red set of supers.
17:28 Bottas goes from 2.2s down to 0.415s off the pace. Kvyat, also on the supersofts, is up to ninth.
17:25 Grosjean is getting new brakes. Well his Haas is. Just the front ones, though.
17:24 First driver onto the supersofts is Bottas. He is down in 12th place so let's see what improvement he can make.
17:21 Massa is the only driver not running the soft tyres and he is P13. His rookie team-mate Stroll, fresh from his first points in Canada, is seventh.
17:18 If Ocon didn't hit the wall there, he missed it by a sheet of paper!
17:16 Make that P3 for Perez as he pips Ocon by 0.02s. Ricciardo is fifth and Raikkonen has just improved to sixth place. Vettel is down in ninth, right behind Alonso.
17:15 Verstappen is down to a 1:43.9, Hamilton is second - 0.537s down - and Ocon is third.
17:13 Another escape road, another car. This time it is Vettel up the escape at Turn 8.
17:12 Okay so Grosjean's brakes aren't in his head - so to speak. Haas inform him that they are "not performing as expected" but alas they can't figure out why. Give them a few... months?
17:10 Kvyat tries to throw a three-point turn at the Turn 15 run-off but his Toro Rosso does not want to go into reverse. Actually it does't want to go into any gear now and his brakes are smoking. Yeah, he gets it going and he's back on track.
17:09 Purples for Verstappen and the new benchmark is a 1:44.288. Grosjean informs Haas that his car's brakes aren't "biting." Vettel gets it wrong at Turn 1, Sainz locks up and uses an escape road too. Oh and there goes Kvyat.
17:06 A set of mediums going on Perez's car. Fantastic work from Force India given how hard he shunted.
17:04 A 1:46.8 for Kvyat to get the ball rolling. A lock up for Palmer and a trip down the escape road at Turn 3 for Grosjean. Brakes anyone?
17:03 FP1 pace-setter Verstappen joins the action along with Vettel, Raikkonen and Sainz. Ocon, Bottas and Ricciardo are also out.
17:01 Palmer, Magnussen, Grosjean and Kvyat are immediately out, all using the soft tyres
17:00 Lights go green and FP2 is underway,..
16:55 Five minutes to the start and work looks to be complete over at Force India as they have rebuilt Perez's car, gearbox included.
16:47 Track temperature is up to 44'C ahead of FP2. There is barely any wind, 1.8m/s, and the air temperature is 28'C. In other words, it's perfect.
16:39 The Azerbaijan stewards have confirmed penalties for both Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne of 15 apiece. Both MCL's have received a sixth turbocharger and MGU-H element.
16:34 Fourth place went to Sergio Perez but so too did the first big crash of the weekend. The Mexican racer got it wrong at Turn 8, that really really tight corner, as he took too much of the first kerb and was shunted into the barrier. It caused significant damage to his Force India including ripping off a wheel. We are still waiting to hear whether Perez will be out at the start of this session.
16:30 Welcome back at Baku for the second of Friday's two practice sessions. It was an interesting start to the weekend in FP1 where Max Verstappen topped a Red Bull 1-2 while Sebastian Vettel was third and Lewis Hamilton fifth. However, the championship protagonists didn't use the supersoft tyres so they still have some hidden pace available.
14:30 Checkered flag! And it's a surprise at the top of the timesheets with Max Verstappen leading a Red Bull 1-2 with Vettel in third. You get the sense, though, that nobody has really shown their full hand just yet. Join us again for FP2 in two hours and 30 minutes.
14:28 The struggle to get tyres up to temp is a real issue here. Don't expect much movement on the leaderboard in these dying moments.
14:24 Green light with five minutes of the session remaining.
14:21 Car and driver are finally off the track. The session with restart at 14:24.
14:19 Perez's car is still in the process of being recovered with 11 minutes of FP1 remaining.
14:13 Red flag! Perez hits the wall at Turn 8 and there goes the right front and the right rear tyre. Plenty of work for his mechanics to do ahead of FP2!
14:08 Now Vettel runs off at Turn 3 after getting caught out by traffic. He is currently eighth quickest in this session.
14:07 Perez gets to within one second of Verstappen to leapfrog up to P2.
14:05 Yellows in Sector 2 as Vettel carries a little too much speed heading into Turn 8. He goes off into the run-off area before reversing back on track.
14:02 Looks like there is some life in the Renault engine after all. Verstappen improves by a second to set a new best: 1:44.410 is the new time to beat.
13:57 Both Mercedes drivers have also switched over to the supersofts. Bottas goes up to P3 with his latest effort, reaching 209mph down the huge back straight.
13:55 Verstappen switches to supersofts and sets the new fastest time: a 1:45.409. 0.88s quicker than Hamilton.
13:53 There is a loose drain cover at Turn 2 which drivers have been told to avoid. Easier said than done!
13:50 Hamilton's 1:45.4 is already a second quicker than last year's quickest P1 time.
13:45 All is quiet out on track, just Sainz and Grosjean out there at the moment.
13:42 We're getting to the halfway stage of FP1, meaning it is almost time for the drivers to hand back their first set of tyres before heading back out on the track again. Top 3: Hamilton, Perez, Verstappen.
13:40 Toro Rosso are the only team not to show their hand so far with Carlos Sainz and Daniil Kvyat still in the pits.
13:35 And there's the first attacking lap from Hamilton. He goes up to P1 with a 1:45.4 on soft tyres.
13:34 A spin-out from Bottas on the exit of Turn 11 as he negotiates the ultra-tight middle sector. No damage done, though.
13:32 A new benchmark is set by Perez - a 1:46.295. Lewis Hamilton is now next to follow and is three tenths behind.
13:30 As we head into the final hour of FP1, Verstappen shoots up to P2 with a 1:47.006 on medium tyres. Two tenths down on current leader Massa.
13:29 A big lock-up from Jolyon Palmer at Turn 1, but thankfully there is a big run-off area for drivers to recover in.
13:26 Most drivers have opted for the softs to begin with, but both Red Bulls are on mediums. Alonso is on the supersofts in P8.
13:24 Vettel slots into P2 with his first effort, 1.2 seconds off the pace. He almost loses the rear on the exit of Turn 16. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen has a little flirt with the barriers; Massa and Raikkonen also suffer spins.
13:23 Massa continues to find improvement - his latest time is a 1:46.907. Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen are the first of the big-hitters to make their way out on track.
13:22 Even though there are 20 corners to this track, it is flat out from Turn 16 and all the way down to the opening corner again. A quick glance at the speed traps shows we're already seeing speeds in excess of 200mph.
13:20 Quite a few are struggling with grip on this grubby street circuit surface. Grosjean is the latest to lose control at Turn 3 but he avoids the barriers.
13:18 And into the 1:48 benchmark we go as Felipe Massa records a 1:48.002 on soft tyres.
13:17 Grosjean has a much cleaner lap on his second attempt and we're already dropping into the 1:49 barrier. The Frenchman re-takes P1.
13:15 And it's Haas who are the first team to light up the timesheet in FP1. Romain Grosjean locks up on the entry to Turn 7 before posting a 1:52.952 on soft tyres before team-mate Kevin Magnussen goes 2.5 seconds faster to top the leaderboard for now.
13:10 We still await our first timed lap as the installation laps continue...
13:05 Lance Stroll, fresh from his first ever points haul in Formula 1, is on the radio to say his brakes don't feel right. He comes straight back into the pits.
13:03 Nothing more than a few installation laps to begin with at the moment. The huge straights are broken up by a tricky, technical Sector 2 which will make finding the perfect set-up a bit of a nightmare this weekend.
13:00 We have the green light. The first 90-minute session is underway and half the field head straight out.
12:57 We're almost set. As for the weather this weekend, it will be bone dry and sunny all the way through with temperatures ranging 28-30C in the afternoons. There will be a breeze on Sunday, though...
12:50 Usual back-markers Sauber arrive in Baku in even more disarray, following the sudden departure of team principal Monisha Kaltenborn.
12:45 Further down the field, the two Force India drivers, Esteban Ocon and Sergio Perez, have buried the hatchet after their controversial race in Canada. There are also familiar grid penalties coming up for both Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne as McLaren-Honda rattle through yet more engine changes.
12:40 Ferrari, meanwhile, are coming to Baku armed with an engine upgrade that they will hope to stop Mercedes in their tracks and re-assert their authority in both the driver and constructor standings.
12:35 Just 12 points separate World Championship leader Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton, who arrives fresh from a dominant display in Montreal. However, we'll soon find out whether the Mercedes W08 is going to have another one of its diva strops this weekend.
12:30 Hello and welcome to the start of Round 8 of the 2017 season. This really is whizzing by already...FP1 gets underway in 30 minutes.
