Finish That's all from us this afternoon. Join us from Silverstone next weekend for the British Grand Prix!
Finish Raikkonen comes home P5, with Grosjean an impressive sixth. Perez, Ocon, Massa and Stroll clinch double-points finishes for Force India and Williams respectively.
Finish Bottas wins the Austrian Grand Prix! Just! Vettel whizzes past in second to extend his World Championship lead as Ricciardo clings onto the final podium spot ahead of Hamilton in P4.
Lap 71 This has got mighty close all of a sudden!
Lap 70 Hamilton gets a great exit out of Turn 3 and tries to get the jump on Ricciardo at Turn 4, but can't make it stick!
Lap 68 And, all of a sudden, Vettel is just 1.1 seconds behind Bottas! But Vettel gets stuck behind traffic and the gap extends to another four tenths.
Lap 66 Hamilton is calling for an engine boost to help him try get past Ricciardo and onto the podium. Time is running out... 1.1s the gap.
Lap 65 Perez, in P7, is reporting a few spots of rain. 7 laps to go!
Lap 63 And it still continues to drop. 1.2 seconds the gap as both Ricciardo and Hamilton negotiate lapped cars.
Lap 62 Another new fastest lap from Hamilton, a 1:07.5. 1.8 seconds behind Ricciardo now...
Lap 60 Now Hamilton goes quickest of all and is not giving up hope of pipping Ricciardo to the final podium spot. The gap is 2.8 seconds.
Lap 59 The gap between Bottas and Vettel is 3.6 seconds. The World Championship leader is currently in between traffic and is about to lap Ocon in P8.
Lap 57 Raikkonen sets a new fastest lap - a 1:07.680 - but the gap to Hamilton is P4 is now 10 seconds.
Lap 54 Plenty of radio chatter about rain before the end of the race. It's not all done and dusted just yet. 18 laps to go.
Lap 51 Vettel sets the new fastest lap of the race and brings the gap to Bottas down to four seconds.
Lap 50 Hamilton is running in P4, but just can't make these ultra tyres work at the moment and is not making any impression on Ricciardo ahead. Raikkonen, in P5, on fresher tyres is closing the gap...
Lap 48 Still no sign of rain, but has got a bit darker in the last 10 minutes or so and there are plenty of threatening clouds around.
Lap 47 With the pit-stops done and dusted and race settling down again, Bottas has a 4.5 second lead over Vettel in second place.
Lap 45 Vandoorne has a drive-through penalty for ignoring blue flag, while Carlos Sainz is having to retire from P13. He is told to box.
Lap 44 That had the potential to very awkward for Bottas, but he passes Raikkonen with relative ease at Turn 4 and re-takes the race lead. In comes Kimi, with Ferrari's plan foiled.
Lap 41 In comes Bottas, ditching the ultras after 41 laps and going onto the supersofts. It's not a particularly quick stop and that allows Raikkonen to take the race lead. The Ferrari Finn is yet to pit, but he can start to back Bottas up now as Vettel has closed the gap down to 4.6 seconds.
Lap 40 Hamilton's rear tyres are already blistering. He has only had the ultras on for seven laps.
Lap 38 Vandoorne, currently in P13, is under investigation for ignoring blue flags.
Lap 36 Valtteri Bottas is also yet to pit. But he is 28 seconds ahead of Sebastian Vettel so there's no real need to be forced into action at the moment.
Lap 35 Same goes for Vettel, too. That puts Raikkonen up to P2 but he is yet to pit.
Lap 34 In comes Ricciardo for a fresh set of supers and re-emerges in P4.
Lap 32 Hamilton has come into the pits and will try make the ultras last 39 laps. He was able to get back out ahead of Grosjean so maintains track position in P5.
Lap 31 Meanwhile, the Williams recovery is going well. Massa and Stroll both running in the points in P9 and P10.
Lap 30 Something has just gone pop in Magnussen's car. His qualifying was ruined by a broken suspension and now a hydraulic issue takes him to three retirements this season.
Lap 28 Still no way through for Hamilton, who must be getting the sick of the sight of the Raikkonen's Ferrari.
Lap 26 Not any longer. There will be no further action taken against Bottas, so a perfect start from the Finn!
Lap 25 Meanwhile, the gap out in front is 7.7s as Bottas sets a new fastest lap, falling into the 1:08s region. He is still under investigation for a jump start.
Lap 23 Hamilton has fallen back to 1.2s behind Raikkonen. He is losing valuable time if he is get himself into the podium spots this afternoon.
Lap 22 Hamilton has a little sniff at Turn 3 and Turn 4, but the door slams shut on him pretty quickly.
Lap 21 Hamilton is struggling to get clean exits and that is helping Raikkonen stay out in front of him. The gap is down to 0.5 seconds.
Lap 18 Lots of talk of blistering tyres, with Raikkonen the latest to complain. Hamilton is getting even bigger in his mirrors, but how long can the Finn hold him up for?
Lap 15 An early pit stop for Hulkenberg. He ditches the supersofts and will be taking the soft tyres all the way to the end. He comes back out in P17.
Lap 14 Hamilton is gaining half a second a lap on Raikkonen in P4, but he is complaining about oversteer so not all plain-sailing from the Brit.
Lap 11 Bottas now has a four-second gap to Vettel, but the stewards are still looking at his potential jump start.
Lap 10 Christian Horner has confirmed a clutch issue hindered Verstappen's poor start, which consequently led to big contact at Turn 1. Kvyat, who sparked the chain reaction, has just been given a drive-through penalty to put him P18 and last.
Lap 8 And Hamilton, with the aid of DRS, gets round the outside of Grosjean at Turn 4 and is up to P5. He is on the supersofts so a longer first stint in store for the Brit.
Lap 8 Looks like the rain is holding off. It's got considerably brighter in the last few laps.
Lap 6 Hamilton now gets the jump on Perez into Turn 3 to move up to P6. Next in his sights is Romain Grosjean, who also made a very impressive start and was battling out with Raikkonen's Ferrari.
Lap 4 Hamilton was able to avoid the trouble at Turn 1 and has made small progress from P8 to P7. The stewards are looking at Bottas' start, whilst the Finn opens up a two second lead in front.
Lap 3 Ricciardo grabbed the inside line into Turn 3 and pushed Raikkonen wide to take P3 on the first lap, too.
Lap 3 Alonso has also retired. Meanwhile, Vettel has suggested Bottas jumped the start. He did seem to get away very well.
Lap 2 It was Kvyat hitting Alonso, who in turn ran into Verstappen. The Dutchman has been told to retire the car. What awful luck in front of his army of fans!
Lap 1 GO! GO! GO! Bottas gets off to a fantastic start and takes the lead into the first corner from Vettel and Raikkonen. But there's contact behind and Verstappen has been tagged! He's limping around in last, trying to get back to the pits.
14:02 Cars in position...let's go!
14:00 Off come the tyre blankets and the formation lap is underway.
13:55 Five minutes until the formation lap. There are 71 laps ahead of us this afternoon...
13:48 National anthem, complete with a fly-over from some Red Bull jets, is done and dusted. It's pretty dark and gloomy but no spots of rain just yet.
13:45 The drivers are making their way to the front of the grid for the national anthem.
13:40 "It doesn't look like the rain is going to happen," says Eric Boullier. Don't spoil the excitement, Eric!
13:35 It's another one-stop race on the agenda, unless the rain comes and wreaks havoc of course.
13:30 The pit lane is now open. There was a long queue waiting to get out on track straightaway with the big potential of rain.
13:25 The weather could play a huge part in proceedings this afternoon. It is continuing to cloud over in Spielberg and there is a 70% chance of a thundery shower which could throw this race wide open.
13:22 A disastrous qualifying for Williams sees Felipe Massa in P17 and Lance Stroll in P18, while Sauber's Pascal Wehrlein will be starting from the pit lane due to an engine change.
13:20 Under-pressure Jolyon Palmer is down in P16 and was lucky to avoid punishment after seemingly blocking off Raikkonen in qualifying on Sunday.
13:19 McLaren's Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne will be hoping to force their way into the points from P12 and P13 respectively after showing signs of improvement.
13:17 A recovery mission from Sergio Perez sees him line up in P7 and team-mate Esteban Ocon also joins him inside the top 10 in P9.
13:15 Romain Grosjean is in an eye-catching P6 with the Ferrari-powered Haas impressing so far this weekend. A snapped suspension in Q1 means team-mate Kevin Magnussen is down in P15.
13:13 Kimi Raikkonen will start on the second row after negotiating traffic problems in qualifying, with Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen, the latter backed by a huge army of Dutch fans today, starting P4 and P5 respectively.
13:11 Lewis Hamilton was P3 in qualifying, but a five-place grid penalty for a change of gearbox after Baku means he is all the way down in P8. He has never won a race from there and overtaking opportunities are hard to come by on this short, snappy circuit.
13:06 Valtteri Bottas clinched a second career pole on Saturday, pipping Sebastian Vettel by a 0.042s before yellow flags brought an abrupt end to qualifying. The World Championship leader is on the front row for the first time in Austria.
13:00 Hello and welcome to round nine of the 2017 season: the Austrian Grand Prix. The race will be getting underway in an hour.
15:04 Thanks for joining our live coverage. See you again for the race tomorrow!
15:03 Hamilton is P3, but a five-place grid penalty sees him drop down to P8 for Sunday's race and plenty of work to do.
15:02 An anti-climatic finish as the session ends under yellows. It is a second career pole for Bottas, with Vettel, in P2, on the front row for the first time in Austria.
15:01 And Verstappen spins out at Turn 7 too! He almost collides with the barrier but picks up a lot of gravel for his troubles.
15:00 Now everyone has to back off as Grosjean comes to a stop in Sector 2! Yellow flags.
14:59 Ricciardo and Hamilton both have very scruffy starts to their laps and have had to back off.
14:57 The last hot laps are almost upon us. Bottas the man on provisional pole with 1:04.251 the time to beat...
14:55 Verstappen is on a different strategy and stays out for another flying lap. Only marginal improvement, though, as an error-ridden lap sees him up to just P6.
14:53 Perez is the last to complete a flying lap and skips up to P8, one place ahead of his team-mate. Hamilton cannot improve and stays P3 for now.
14:52 Raikkonen goes P4, but is half a second behind his team-mate Vettel.
14:50 Bottas sets the early pace again with a 1:04.251. Vettel finds himself four hundreths behind in P2, with Hamilton a tenth further back in P3.
14:47 Verstappen is very eager to get on with it. He lines up at the pit lane exit with more than a minute to go before the green light appears again. Is there rain in the air?
14:45 Here we are then for Q3 with Bottas looking like the driver to beat. A reminder that Hamilton has a five-place grid penalty to come due to a changed gearbox.
14:42 Out in Q2: Hulkenberg, Alonso, Vandoorne, Kvyat, Magnussen.
14:41 Hulkenberg is also knocked out as Ocon goes four hundreths of a second quicker to reach the top ten shoot-out!
14:40 Ocon knocks Alonso into the elimination zone while Bottas goes even quicker out in front with a 1:04.3
14:38 Final flying laps coming up now...and Grosjean gets his all wrong on the final corner. The Haas is proving to be a little devil to drive once again. The Frenchman is currently in P6.
14:34 In the elimination zone with five minutes remaining: Hulkenberg, Ocon, Vandoorne, Kvyat.
14:33 Ricciardo clips just a tenth off his best to stay in P7. He may need another run to be totally sure of reaching Q3.
14:30 What have the Red Bulls got to offer? Verstappen and Ricciardo are both on ultras, and the Dutchman is half a second quicker with his first flying lap. They are in P4 and P7 respectively.
14:28 Now Bottas finds an extra couple of tenths on his team-mate and goes P1 with a 1:04.640 on ultras.
14:27 And Hamilton goes straight into the 1:04s with a 1:04.800. That's 1.4s quicker than the fastest lap seen in Austria last year.
14:26 Q2 is underway and it's Mercedes and Ferrari first to show. Hamilton, with that five-place grid penalty looming, is on a race-start set of supers.
14:24 Kevin Magnussen won't be taking part in Q2 after the suspension snapped in Q1. As a result, we lose four more of the slowest drivers in this 15-minute session before the top-10 shoot-out begins.
14:22 So a double blow for Williams in Q1. Balance issues have been a problem all weekend so not as shocking result as you would expect.
14:20 Out in Q1: Palmer, Massa, Stroll, Ericsson, Wehrlein.
14:19 Horrendous showing for Williams! Both Massa and Stroll have failed to reach Q2! Baku will feel like a very distant memory for the team now.
14:18 Vandoorne suddenly finds himself in the drop zone with the checkered flag looming and puts himself right on the bubble in P15 with his latest lap.
14:17 That's more like it from Kimi, he strapped on the ultras and gets to within 0.084s of Hamilton in P1.
14:16 But Sainz has escaped with real conviction, he flies up to P4 and six tenths off Hamilton's best.
14:15 Meanwhile, Stroll loses a ton of time in the final sector and cannot climb out of the elimination with his latest lap.
14:14 Raikkonen finds himself down in P11 at the moment and is forced into another Q1 run.
14:13 Grosjean goes a little wide at Turn 9, but a 1:05.9 sees him shoot up to P6 as Haas continues to show good pace.
14:12 Wehrlein improves slightly, but it is only enough to see him leapfrog his team-mate to P19.
14:11 In the drop zone with six minutes left: Sainz, Palmer, Stroll, Ericsson, Wehrlein.
14:10 Hamilton finds improvement on his latest hot lap and moves half a second clear of Vettel with a 1:05 flat.
14:09 It looks like Magnussen's qualifying is done and dusted already. A broken suspension leaves him limping back to the pits.
14:08 And Hamilton propels himself up to P1, three tenths quicker than Vettel. He is also on the ultrasofts.
14:06 Daniel Riccardo is up to P2, four tenths off the pace on the ultras.
14:05 And Grosjean has gone off at Turn 8! He just about keeps it away from the barriers. Meanwhile, Vettel goes even quicker on the supersofts and tops the list with a 1:05.585. Raikkonen is half a second down in P4.
14:03 Vettel's opening effort of a 1:06.4 on soft tyres is enough to put him up to P3, with Magnussen and Grosjean closing in on the 1:05 bechmark on the ultras up ahead.
14:02 Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen are among the early starters...
14:00 We have the green light and the first 18-minute qualifying session is underway. We will lose five drivers ahead of Q2.
13:55 It's very hot in Spielberg, with track temperatures up to 45 degrees at the moment. It's pretty overcast, with a 40% chance of rain in this session.
13:50 Fernando Alonso has also had to switch to an older engine after a problem was discovered with his new 'Spec 3' Honda engine.
13:45 The struggles continued for Williams, though, as both Lance Stroll and Felipe Massa finished way down the pack. The new aerodynamic parts on the FW40 are having a few teething issues.
13:42 Meanwhile, the Ferrari-powered Haas has also caught the eye, with both Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean both running in the top 10 in FP3.
13:38 Ferrari also responded to the pace of the Mercedes in final practice, as World Championship leader Sebastian Vettel finished top of the timesheet.
13:35 FP3 did not go smoothly, either, as a brake disc failure left Hamilton's mechanics with plenty of work to do in order to get the car ready for qualifying, where the highest he can line up is sixth on the grid for Sunday's race.
13:33 FP1 and FP2 belonged to Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes on Friday, but the Brit now finds himself on the back foot after it emerged that he has a five-place grid penalty for a change of gearbox following the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
13:30 Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the qualifying session for the Austrian Grand Prix. Q1 will begin in 30 minutes.
12:02 That's it for now, join us in two hours for qualifying. Cheers.
12:01 FP3 ends with Vettel in P1 ahead of Hamilton and Bottas.
12:00 The chequered flag is out on FP3...
11:58 Verstappen isn't happy and reports understeer issues but he's told by his engineers that the car is all good.
11:55 Raikkonen has worked his way up to fourth place ahead of Ricciardo, Magnussen and Verstappen.
11:52 Replays show it was a right front brake issue for Hamilton that caused him to go off at Turn 3.
11:50 A minor lock up for Massa and a complete off for Hamilton, who has got it wrong at Turn 6/7. He is having to reverse his way out of trouble and does so, rejoining the action.
11:48 Vettel is back at the front with a 1:05.092.
11:47 Verstappen is in the pits with his mechanics working on the floor of his RB13. Similar issue going on for Ricciardo.
11:44 Traffic for Vettel in the form of Hamilton and he's not impressed, shows his title rival the hand! Daring! He had been purple in the first and sector seconds but stays P2.
11:42 New ultras, new P1 and new record for Hamilton with a 1:05.361. Vettel is 0.023s down.
11:36 Sainz is up to tenth place, 0.2s down on Kvyat. And, as we've come to expect, Sauber are stone last. However, both Ericsson and Wehrlein have only been lapping on the supersoft tyres so far.
11:35 Kvyat is told that Toro Rosso can see some "increasing vibrations from the rear" on the data and to look after his tyres. He replies "yes."
11:34 Good news for Sainz is his car was recovered to the pits, Toro Rosso fixed whatever was wrong and he is out on a hot lap. The Spaniard goes P16 on his first attempt.
11:31 Raikkonen is not happy with the traffic, most notably Magnussen as they get a little too close.
11:28 Over at Williams, both drivers are running the new bargeboards, chassis horn and sidepod deflectors which only Massa used on Friday. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be helping them as Massa is P16 to Stroll's P17.
11:26 Although Alonso is running the older Honda engine, he is P11 to Vandoorne's P14 with half a second separating the two McLaren drivers.
11:25 All 19 drivers still in the action - Sainz is not - have made their mark on the timesheets.
11:24 Bottas is fourth ahead of Kyvat and Palmer while Hamilton's first run leaves him outside the top ten. That is rectified as Friday's pace-setter jumps to second place, make that third as Vettel has just hit the front. A 1:05.384 for the Ferrari driver.
11:21 Vettel mixes it up at the front as he slots into P2 between the Red Bull team-mates. He is 0.021s down on Verstappen's P1 time.
11:20 Hamilton chases Magnussen around the circuit, good date for Mercedes on what following another car does to one's aerodynamics.
11:16 Verstappen is still holding down P1 ahead of Ricciardo and Kvyat but here comes Bottas on a hot lap. The ultras are the tyre of choice so far this morning.
11:13 Ricciardo reports that he "just locked up into Turn 4".
11:12 Verstappen hits the front with a 1:06.3 with Ricciardo second. Alonso goes P6 with the old spec engine.
11:09 Bad news for Alonso as he is back on the Honda Spec 2 engine due to a MGU-H issue with his Spec 3 unit. No upgrade for the Spaniard.
11:08 Yellow flags are lifted and the laps are coming in.
11:07 The marshals are now involved and pushing Sainz's car off the track after he failed to restart the car by going into P2 mode on the engine.
11:04 Sainz has stopped on the track and reports that it is an engine issue with his Toro Rosso.
11:03 Out go Hamilton, Raikkonen and Sainz...
11:02 Grosjean, Magnussen and Vandoorne are the first drivers out but return to the pits after just one lap.
11:00 Green light and off they go...
10:56 A quick rundown of Friday's top ten on the timesheet: 1 Lewis Hamilton Mercedes 1:05.483 2 Sebastian Vettel Ferrari 1:05.630 0.147 3 Valtteri Bottas Mercedes 1:05.699 0.216 4 Max Verstappen Red Bull 1:05.832 0.349 5 Daniel Ricciardo Red Bull 1:05.873 0.390 6 Kimi Raikkonen Ferrari 1:06.144 0.661 7 Kevin Magnussen Haas 1:06.591 1.108 8 Fernando Alonso McLaren 1:06.732 1.249 9 Nico Hulkenberg Renault Sport 1:06.735 1.252 10 Romain Grosjean Haas 1:06.763 1.280
10:47 As for silly season news: Verstappen wants out of Red Bull, Williams say Felipe Massa could stay on next season and Carlos Sainz will remain a part of the Red Bull family whether he wants to or not as they have exercised their option on him for 2018.
10:42 The other big news is that the FIA have altered the kerbs overnight. Several drivers complained with Max Verstappen saying they aren't fit for F1. The FIA listened. The kerb on the exit of Turn 9 has been repaired while two of the 'baguette' elements have been moved closer to Turn 10. This means any driver running wide at Turn 9 can rejoin without having to mount the kerbs.
10:35 The big news following Friday's practices is that Lewis Hamilton, who clocked a new lap record around the Austrian circuit in FP2, is facing a five-place gearbox penalty as his W08 needed a new one following Baku. Mercedes have denied that the gearbox was damaged in the contact with Sebastian Vettel.
10:30 Welcome back to the Red Bull Ring for the weekend's third and final practice session. FP3 is just an hour.
15:32 That's it for today, we end with a complaining Grosjean and an equally unhappy Stroll. Join us on Saturday to find out who gets it right in FP3 and qualifying Cheers
15:30 The chequered flag is out and FP2 ends with a P1 for Hamilton ahead of Vettel and Bottas. Max Verstappen is fourth at Red Bull's home track.
15:29 One minute remaining...
15:26 Perez eats gravel. "I went a little bit into the gravel," is his assessment.
15:23 Good news is that Alonso is back on the track, bad news is that Alonso is spinning. He returns to the pits.
15:19 And now Kvyat is out, urged to come back in as his Toro Rosso smokes away with a right rear brake fire - oh and the left.
15:18 Horner reveals that Ricciardo's session is over with a turbo issue.
15:17 Dark clouds off to the south of the circuit but Christian Horner reckons FP2 will be over before the rain hits the circuit.
15:13 Alonso is back in his car, which has a floor again, and it looks as if he'll be back in the action very shortly.
15:10 Sainz is in the pits with a leaking Toro Rosso, the result of his early excursion over the kerbs.
15:09 Hamilton is back out on a used set of ultras, hitting lap 15 with that set.
15:07 Verstappen has leapfrogged Ricciardo for fourth place.
15:05 26 laps on his supersofts and Vettel is lapping in the low 1.09s, high 1.08s.
15:04 Still no sign of Alonso, 14 laps, or Palmer, 7 laps.
15:01 Hamilton's W08 reportedly needs a spark plug change.
15:00 Thirty minutes left in today's running with pretty much every driver now focused on long run pace.
14:57 Interestingly the line up for this afternoon's press conference has changed to include Honda, McLaren and Mercedes. Hmm...
14:53 An off for Sainz who slides his way off the track, through the gravel, onto the grass and back onto the track only to find the kerbs in his way.
14:48 Both Sauber drivers are in the garage as they look over data with the team slowest of all. Wehrlein is P19 to Ericsson's P20.
14:45 Grosjean is asking Haas to check his data as things have gotten "worse" on that run which the team agrees with.
14:44 Only Alonso, Grosjean, Perez and Palmer have yet to put in purple runs.
14:42 As Ricciardo takes fourth place from Verstappen, Hamilton, Vettel and Bottas all leave the pits on used ultras.
14:37 And with that out comes a floor for Alonso's car.
14:35 Grosjean has a moment at Turn 9, off the track and in the air.
14:34 Alonso is out of his car with reports saying he has a damaged floor, well not him but the car. McLaren say they are changing it but there is literally no one near the car.
14:33 Verstappen is up to fourth place as the Red Bull driver puts on a set of ultrasofts and mixes it up at the front.
14:30 Issues for Palmer who is in the pits with a broken down Renault. A sensor issue, says the team.
14:28 P1 for Hamilton on the ultrasoft tyres, a 1:05.483.
14:27 And now we have a spin for Perez.
14:26 More purple runs see Vettel go quickest, Bottas P2 and then he bins it at Turn 6. Bottas lost the back end of his W08, spun through the gravel and just managed to avoid the barriers. The gap between Vettel and Bottas is 0.069s.
14:23 Perez makes his mark leaving just Verstappen without a time to his name. It is a P17 for the Mexican racer.
14:20 Raikkonen heads out on the ultrasofts...
14:19 Top three all set their times on the supersoft tyres, Ricciardo in fourth on the ultras and Raikkonen in P5 on the softs, then back the supers from Magnussen on down.
14:16 Vandoorne slots into tenth place on the supersoft tyres while Alonso is P7. Problems for Verstappen, who has a brake issue so work going on with his RB13.
14:14 Another mistake from a Sauber driver, this time it is Ericsson up off the track, through the gravel and down the escape road.
14:10 As Verstappen waits to be released by Red Bull, Ricciardo starts a hot lap at the Bulls home track. Using the purple-marked ultrasoft Pirellis it is a 1:06.5 for the Aussie.
14:09 Bottas pips him by 0.031s.
14:08 P1 for Hamilton with 1:05.7. That's up on his FP1 time and therefore a new lap record.
14:07 According to the weather radar, the risk of rain is now up to 80 percent as clouds gather over the Red Bull Ring.
14:06 Bottas, running the supersofts, ups his pace to a 1:05.8 while Raikkonen has a small off. Vettel is up to second place.
14:04 The drivers aren't messing around this afternoon, straight into the running with a 1:0.6.6 from Bottas, Raikkonen is a second down, and Ericsson is locking up.
14:01 One by one out the drivers go with Hulkneberg reporting a "small vibration on the front axel." He's told to continue while Renault investigate.
14:00 Green light and off we go...
13:50 Track temperature is up to 44'C having reached a high of 40 in the morning's session.
13:42 Sergio Perez will be back in his Force India this afternoon after handing it over to Alfonso Celis Jr while Nico Hulkenberg is back having handed his RS17 over to Sergey Sirotkin for FP1.
13:39 McLaren had a good session with their new and improved Honda engine with Stoffel Vandoorne P7 and Fernando Alonso P9. Vandoorne, though, has subsequently come out saying that the new engine doesn't make much of a difference.
13:34 This morning's practice session belonged to Lewis Hamilton, who, using the soft Pirelli tyres, posted a new lap record of 1:05.975. That put him up Max Verstappen, Valtteri Bottas and Sebastian Vettel all of whom went a step - or in Bottas' case two steps - softer.
13:30 Welcome back to the Red Bull Ring for the second of Friday's two 90-minute practice sessions.
11:31 So it's first blood to Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes in FP1, with Verstappen and Bottas rounding off the top three in a pretty low-key start in Austria. Join us again at 1400 local time for FP2!
11:30 As the chequered flag waves, Verstappen's chance of setting a new fastest time is ruined as he spins out on Turn 1 just after going quickest of all in the first sector.
11:28 Into the closing stages now and Verstappen goes even quicker. He leapfrogs Bottas into P2 to split the two Mercedes drivers. Ricciardo is in the middle of a Ferrari sandwich in P5.
11:23 With six minutes remaining, Verstappen zooms up to P4 on the supersofts, four tenths off the pace.
11:21 Esteban Ocon, currently down in P10, is racking up the laps this morning. He is up to 30 now in the Force India.
11:19 Hamilton sets a new lap record at this iteration of the Spielberg track: a 1:05.975 on soft tyres. He is now three tenths quicker than Bottas, who set his best time on supers.
11:08 Hamilton is the new pace-setter once again, posting a 1:06.329 on the slower soft tyres. It puts him just 0.016s clear of his team-mate in P2.
11:07 Alonso gets into the top 10 with a personal best in the first two sectors along the way. He is up to P9, just as Bottas carries too much speed into Turn 1 and runs wide.
11:06 A couple of minor incidents elsewhere: Grosjean clatters into the kerbs at Turn 9 and Turn 10, picks up some floor damage and then a front left puncture as a result. Daniil Kvyat also finds the gravel at Turn 8.
11:04 Ocon rises to P8 and is 1.1 seconds off the pace on ultras. Alonso finds a little extra on the ultras, too, and is four tenths further back in P11.
11:02 As Sainz goes for a spin at Turn 1 and Stroll once again gets it all wrong through Turn 9, Ricciardo and Vandoorne both find improvement but stay in P4 and P9 respectively.
11:00 Bottas is enjoying is new set of super softs. He takes P1 again with 1:06.3, a tenth quicker than Hamilton on ultras.
10:53 Stroll is the first driver back out for the second part of FP1, with Jolyon Palmer following suit.
10:50 And Raikkonen is now back in the garage alongside everyone else.
10:45 Raikkonen is still out on his own. He improves to P4 with his latest effort, seven tenths off the pace set by Hamilton and nearly five tenths away from the Vettel on the same tyre compound.
10:41 Raikkonen is a little out of sync with the rest now after his early off at Turn 1. As the rest nip in to give their first set of tyres back, the Finn has the track to himself with a fresh set of supers strapped on.
10:40 Verstappen has had to box after losing all control through Turn 8 and clipping the wall after a quick trip through the sand trap.
10:37 Immediate improvement from Hamilton, who goes three tenths quicker than Vettel to re-take top spot.
10:34 Both Merc drivers are now into the 1:06 benchmark on the ultrasofts... and Vettel has just joined them with a 1:06.828 on supers!
10:31 Turn 9 is causing problems for Stroll this morning as he goes off there for a second time. He reveals on team radio that he is struggling with the rears and is feeling vibrations.
10:30 "Nothing to worry about," says Vettel on team radio. A replay shows he took too much kerb at Turn 1 and went for a spin as a result.
10:28 Now Sebastian Vettel has had an off at Turn 1 as well; an issue with the brakes at Ferrari? Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas are at the top of the standings with an hour of FP1 remaining, the former has set a 1:07.4
10:25 The way that Ferrari snapped out of shape was particularly concerning. All four tyres locked up there!
10:24 Kimi Raikkonen has come to a stop on the exit of Turn 1 and there are some huge flat spots on his tyres. He will have to dive back into the garage for some fresh ones.
10:20 Only Lance Stroll is out on the track at the moment. He goes through a warm-up lap before going to within 1.2 seconds of the early leader Verstappen.
10:13 Max Verstappen puts the first time up on the board: a 1:08.429 on soft tyres.
10:07 We still await our first timed lap of the morning. Nobody in any immediate rush.
10:00 Green light. A couple of changes to tell you about as a handful of drivers head out for their installation laps. Sergey Sirotkin is back in the Renault for this session, replacing Nico Hulkenberg; Alfonso Celis Jr is getting a run in the Force India at the expense of Sergio Perez.
09:57 We're almost ready to go and it's going to be a hot one. It's not even 10am and it's already 22 degrees at the Red Bull Ring. Perfect conditions for a first run-out of the day.
09:52 McLaren also have their hands on the next step of Honda's engine, but Fernando Alonso is not holding out much hope about it and is seemingly resigned about the fact he will be having to fight like crazy just to get a sniff of a point or two.
09:48 With Ferrari and Mercedes battling it out in front and Red Bull ready to feed off any scraps, it is worth keeping an eyes on Williams this weekend as they look to keep the momentum going from Montreal and Baku. They have a 'major upgrade', featuring many, new aerodynamic parts to help them do exactly that.
09:35 After the Hamilton and Vettel show following the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, it's finally time to get back racing again. The World Championship leader will have to be on his best behaviour in Austria this weekend as he is just three more penalty points away from a one-race ban.
09:30 Hello and welcome to Spielberg for round nine of the 2017 World Championship season. The green light for FP1 is 30 minutes' away...
