13:30 We're back! Hope you enjoyed the first practice session of the Italian Grand Prix. We're underway for the second session in 30 minutes.
11:32 That is it for now, join us in two hours for FP2. Cheers.
11:31 The session ends with a P1 for Rosberg, 0.2s up on Hamilton with Raikkonen a full second down.
11:30 The chequered flag is out and FP1 is over.
11:28 Last lap or two coming up.
11:26 A problem for Alonso who looks to have a gearbox issue. He is told to return to the pits "slowly."
11:24 Vettel reports a "bad slot for traffic." No surprise there.
11:21 Grosjean is up to sixth on the supersoft tyres.
11:20 Raikkonen has taken third off Vettel, who is not able to improve on his first soft lap.
11:18 Raikkonen has climbed up to fourth place as Vettel now heads out on new soft tyres. And a mistake for Hamilton who gets it wrong at the second chicane.
11:17 Grosjean is out there with Haas' new rear wing and was 12th quickest on the softs. Now swapping to the supersofts he moves up to ninth place.
11:14 Raikkonen has ventured out on a new set of soft tyres but still no sign of Vettel.
11:12 So as we get into the final stages of this 90-minute session it is Rosberg ahead of Hamilton, Vettel, Perez, Bottas, Raikkonen, Verstappen, Ricciardo, Button and Celis. Yip, test driver Celis is P10.
11:09 Nasr is up to 16th place and asks Sauber if they want "constant pushing." He is told yes.
11:04 Rosberg is onto his fourth lap on the soft tyres, Hamilton is back in the pits, and Palmer is up to 18th place. This looks as if it will be another difficult grand prix for Renault.
11:01 A smile from Vettel as he takes a breather in the pits. He is P3.
11:00 Massa has had a run out on track, moving up 15th place, before heading back into the pits.
10:58 And that improvement is followed by Verstappen getting it all wrong and running wide as he lost the rear wing through the Ascari chicane.
10:57 Verstappen is up to sixth place ahead of Bottas.
10:55 Rosberg has done a 1:22.9 on the soft tyres with Hamilton 0.203s down on his team-mate.
10:52 New softs, the real deal not the prototypes, as Hamilton and Rosberg leaves the pits.
10:51 A mistake from Sainz at the second chicane and he goes on straight.
10:50 Hamilton and Rosberg remain in the pits with Mercedes tweeting that it is "feedback and tinkering time."
10:46 Nasr joins the Toro Rossos out on track.
10:42 Kvyat sets a time and it is a 1:27.3, Sainz does a 1:26.4.
10:41 Williams are hoping to get Massa back out shortly after reporting an issue with his turbo.
10:40 Sainz and Kvyat are both putting in their sixth laps of this session but neither has set a time yet.
10:37 Issues for Felipe Nasr as the Sauber driver reports a lack of power. Sauber introduced a host of updates last time out at Belgium but failed to reap any rewards. They remain point-less for this season.
10:36 Perez has improved to fourth place on the supersofts while Rosberg is told that his tyres are looking " reasonably robust" so Mercedes want him to continue lapping. He has just started lap 8 on his supersofts.
10:34 Raikkonen, is onto this seventh lap of this day, is told that he is "restricted on mileage."
10:32 Over at Ferrari, Vettel is up to third on the soft tyres and Raikoknen is fourth. They are 0.665s and 1.286s off the pace respectively.
10:31 Hamilton now does a 1:23.643 to beat Rosberg by 0.008s.
10:30 Hamilton is purple in the first sector, Rosberg responds with a fastest middle sector and final sector and a 1:23.6. Hamilton's time is a 1:24.1.
10:28 Hamilton has followed his team-mate out, can he beat the German's time? Let's find out.
10:27 Yip, it is a P1 for Rosberg with a 1:23.736.
10:25 Here comes a quick time as Rosberg leads the pits on a new set of supersofts.
10:24 Vettel is on a flier, and it is a 1:25.7 for the Ferrari driver. Puts him P5.
10:21 Over at Toro Rosso, Sainz and Daniil Kvyat are running very different set-ups as Toro Rosso are trying to get back to basics having lost speed of late. The team has already warned that don't expect to be quick today as they try figure out what has gone wrong.
10:18 Hamilton edged Rosberg with a 1:24.1 before heading back into the pits.
10:16 Magnussen's first lap time in his new chassis is a 1:28.6.
10:14 Wehrlein heads back into the pits, asking "what's the problem?" He's told it is nothing major and will be explained when he gets back in.
10:11 Ocon and Wehrlein ventured out along with Perez and Celis.
10:10 Rosberg has edged Hamilton with a 1:24.9.
10:09 P1 for Hamilton with a 1:25.1, Rosberg is 0.263s down, Bottas a further second off the pace. All of them used the prototype soft.
10:08 Button heads back into the pits and is told "data is good" by McLaren. Time to stripe off that Halo?
10:06 And with that Verstappen heads out. Button does a 1:28.9 using Pirelli's prototype tyres, which the teams also ran in last Friday's practices. The tyres are designed to be more robust against kerbs and debris.
10:05 Perez has pitted after his one lap with Halo, still waiting for Verstappen.
10:04 Button is lapping with Halo on his car and crosses the line to do a second lap.
10:02 Fernando Alonso, Celis, Rosberg, Sergio Perez, Jenson Button and Ricciardo are out at the moment.
10:01 Magnussen was cleared to race by the FIA doctors on Thursday. He suffered an ankle injury his massive Belgian GP shunt that destroyed his RS16. He is out in a new chassis this weekend.
10:00 Green light and FP1 is underway with Carlos Sainz heading out of the pits ahead of Daniil Kvyat, Pascal Wehrlein, Vettel, Esteban Gutierrez, Raikkonen and Kevin Magnussen.
09:55 Keep an eye on Max Verstappen this weekend as he's been courting controversy with his driving. Also a Friday FP1 run for Alfonso Celis and it is Esteban Ocon's second grand prix weekend.
09:52 Blue skies, a few clouds and 25'C greet the drivers as they prepare for FP1. The track temperature is up to 28'C.
09:46 But while Mercedes are the favourites to win this weekend's race, and even take the 1-2, the tifosi will be hoping to see an improvement from Ferrari. Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen will be racing upgraded power units this weekend. Red Bull will be looking to also upset Ferrari's party although Daniel Ricciardo admits the Scuderia may have the advantage in their battle, at least at Monza.
09:43 Speaking of Rosberg, his Belgian GP win saw him reduce Lewis Hamilton's advantage in the title race to just nine points. Hamilton, though, has a stockpile of engines thanks to Belgian antics which saw him take three new engines in one race weekend.
09:39 Expect to see the Halo back in action this morning as Jenson Button, Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez are all expected to run it. However, whether they'll keep it on for more than a lap as Nico Rosberg did at Spa, remains to be seen.
09:34 If you missed it, the big news ahead of this weekend's grand prix is that Felipe Massa is retiring from Formula 1 at the end of this season. This will be my last season in F1, he confirmed. I will enjoy my last eight races in F1 as much as Ive always done. I just want to say thank you to everybody who is around me and who have followed me in my career.
09:30 Welcome to Monza, home of the Italian GP, Ferrari and the ever-enthusiastic tifosi. All times are local.
