17:25 Just a recap of what happened during FP3: Final practice for the Bahrain Grand Prix ended with the usual 1-2 but this time it belonged to Ferrari with Sebastian Vettel 0.04s quicker than Kimi Raikkonen.
17:20 Welcome back! The first qualifying round of the Bahrain Grand Prix is underway in 30 minutes at the Bahrain International Circuit.
16:02 So that is it for now, join us again in two hours for qualifying.
16:01 Palmer is heading back in the pits with a rear left puncture. It is a slow, careful drive as the last thing he wants to do is damage the car two hours before qualifying.
16:00 The chequered flag is out and FP3 ends with the usual 1-2 but this time it belongs to Ferrari with Sebastian Vettel 0.04s quicker than Kimi Raikkonen. Rosberg and Hamilton are third and fourth ahead of Bottas and Grosjean in the Haas.
15:58 Verstappen has just taken P14 off Sainz as the Toro Rosso drivers are on course to end this session without a super-soft run under the belt.
15:56 Button is out on the supers and the Brit goes P13. Sainz jumps to P14 on the softs and Palmer goes P19 on the supers.
15:55 Sainz and Verstappen are slowest of all at the moment but both have used only the soft tyres this session.
15:53 Vettel has started a super-soft flying lap and he is fastest in the first sector. Does a personal best in the second. And it is a 1:31.683 as the German pips his team-mate by 0.040s.
15:52 Bottas jumps up to fourth place and Kvyat is P5.
15:49 Raikkonen is now out of a super-soft run and he is fastest in the first sector. fastest in the second and it is a 1:31.723 for the Ferrari driver.
15:48 Here comes Rosberg on the super-softs, his first run on the option tyres. As expected he is flying and it is a 1:32.104. Hamilton is behind him and he does a 1:32.160. And once again Hamilton lines up behind his team-mate.
15:47 Massa is out on a brand new set of super-softs and he fails to improve on his earlier super run.
15:45 Vandoorne slots into P18 on his first flying lap, one place behind team-mate Button.
15:43 Vandoorne stays out for a second lap, which is promising especially as his first lap was not exactly flying.
15:42 A practice start for the McLaren test driver and he shoots out of the pits on the medium rubber.
15:41 Vandoorne is finally sitting in the McLaren, which is a good sign.
15:39 And then they both head back into the pits. Only Perez, Hulkenberg, Ericsson, Wehrlein and Verstappen are still out. And with that Ericsson pits.
15:38 Bottas heads out on a brand new set of super-softs while Rosberg is also back lapping, he is using a used set of soft tyres.
15:37 Sainz reports "I think I have a puncture" which is not something we have seen at all this weekend. He returns to the Toro Rosso garage.
15:35 All three Pirelli compounds are lapping the Sakhir circuit at the moment as teams opt for different programmes, different strategies, and different just about everything.
15:33 His next lap puts Gutierrez up into 16th place, 2.4s down.
15:32 Gutierrez is not a happy camper and complains that he was held up by Hamilton. Haas v Mercedes, now there's a battle to pay attention to!
15:30 Halfway through FP3 we have: Raikkonen, Bottas, Rosberg, Hamilton, Massa, Ricciardo, Perez, Hulkenberg, Kvyat and Palmer as the top ten.
15:28 Just one lap from Vandoorne so far this session with reports claiming an oil leak is keeping him in the McLaren pits.
15:25 Another change at the top as Raikkonen, on his first flying lap, comes though with a 1:32.863. And he is using the softs, the same tyre as Mercedes.
15:24 Williams have opted for a very early super-soft run that puts Bottas up into first place. It is a 1:33.042 for the Finn but that is only a tenth up on Rosberg and Hamilton on the soft tyres.
15:22 Hamilton crosses the line a minute later with the exact same time as Rosberg. The German, though, gets P1 as he set his time first.
15:21 Here comes Rosberg and, yip you guessed it, here comes a new P1 time. It is a 1:33.150 on the soft tyres for the Mercedes driver.
15:18 A Force India 1-2 at the moment with Perez 0.039s up on Hulkenberg. Ricciardo is third ahead of Vettel, Haryanto and Wehrlein.
15:16 Vettel is back on track and comes up behind the Toro Rosso of Verstappen. Instead of making a lunge, he holds back letting the Dutchman have some room. But a slide from Max allows Vettel right back up and he passes him.
15:15 A few more drivers head out onto the track but still no sign of either Rosberg or Hamilton. Raikkonen is also staying in the Ferrari garage right now.
15:12 Perez hits the front with a 1:34.281, half a second up on Ricciardo. A major twitch from Haryanto out of the last corner, which looks rather uncomfortable, puts him P3.
15:10 And here comes Vettel, he heads out for his first lap of the day in the SF16-H.
15:09 Wehrlein, Haryanto and Perez join Ricciardo out on track.
15:08 Ricciardo has opted to stay out for a second lap on a new set of the soft tyres. He posts the afternoon's first time and it is a 1:34.77. He did a !:32.8 on the super-softs on Friday night.
15:06 News late last night is that Kevin Magnussen will be starting Sunday's race from the pit lane. The Dane failed to head into the weigh bridge during Friday's practice when he was called in and thus was hit the penalty. Only up side to that, he gets to save super-soft tyres.
15:05 Alonso may not be racing but he is still here with McLaren, sitting on the pit wall this session as he keeps an eye on proceedings.
15:03 One by one the drivers head out including Massa, who has a spray of flow-vis all over the nose of his Williams
15:01 Track temperature is up to 36'C as Esteban Gutierrez heads out in the Haas ahead of Pascal Wehrlein and Romain Grosjean.
15:00 The pit lane light goes green and FP3 is underway.
14:55 Williams have confirmed that their new front wing has arrived and that Felipe Massa will be using it this session.
14:51 Tyre choice this weekend is medium, soft and super-softs with Championship rivals Mercedes and Ferrari opting for a different number of the first two. Mercedes have chosen just one set of mediums for both Hamilton and Rosberg and six softs while Ferrari have three sets of mediums and four softs. This has opened the door for Mercedes to do a three-stopper as they have more of the quicker rubber. Ferrari look set to go with the traditional two-stopper.
14:47 In case you've been living on Mars, or somewhere equally weird, since Thursday the big news in Bahrain is that Fernando Alonso is out of the grand prix. He failed to pass a medical on Thursday as scans revealed that his rib fractures - suffered in his Australian GP crash - had not healed. McLaren called up Stoffel Vandoorne, who is making his grand prix debut in the number '47' MP4-31.
14:42 The weather on Friday, though, was cooler than expected or witnessed in the past. And although today's temperatures also won't reach the heights of yesterday, it is at least warmer. The day's high is 25'C and the wind is a northwesterly.
14:36 Friday's running belonged solely to Nico Rosberg with the German comfortably quicker than his team-mate Lewis Hamilton. Although Mercedes held the 1-2 in both sessions, the afternoon and the night, there were surprises behind them as Jenson Button finished P3 for McLaren. The Brit was 1.2s off the pace.
14:30 Welcome back to the Sakhir circuit for the Bahrain GP's third and final practice session. All times are local.
19:32 Plenty of action on Friday, hopefully we get some more entertainment tomorrow, Cheers!
19:30 That concludes practice session! Rosberg setting the pace once again, followed by Hamilton in second and Button in third.
19:27 Back to the fast cars, Button now running on the Mediums as he tries to sneak in one or two laps before the end of the session.
19:25 It's only FP2 and two cars, Ferrari and Haas, have already been lifted back to the pits with a crane.
19:23 Grosjean's front wing was clipped on the curb which caused the debris on the track.
19:20 Button also radio's his team to say he has problems now. Virtual safety car BACK on the track now. There also seems to be debris on the track.
19:19 Word coming out that Vettel's malfunction could be a gear box issue. Virtual safety car pulled of the track now.
19:18 Virtual safety car now on track while Vettel's car gets moved out the way.
19:16 Vettel stops the car and radio's his team saying something is wrong with the Ferrari.
19:12 Teams going on softs now as the session draws to a close in 20 minutes.
19:11 The two Mercedes now also trying out the soft compound tyre.
19:10 Vandoorne still running slower than Button at the moment and retreats back to the pits and puts on the softs.
19:06 Ricciardo has only completed 10 laps. Remarkably less than anyone else.
19:05 Verstappen, Gutierrez and Magnussen all running on softs during this stint.
19:00 30 minutes to go before the end of FP2!
19:00 Renault's Magnuseen now running on softs as they hope to get as much data as possible.
18:57 Ricciardo goes back into the pits now.
18:54 Since the radio communication has been restricted, it seems teams around the grid have opted for more informative dashboard to feed the drivers information.
18:52 Haryanto getting ready to go out again. All eyes on him now after his series of blemishes at the last race weekend.
18:50 Button back in the pits now after that impressive lap.
18:47 Raikkonen goes faster than Vettel in 5th with 1:32.452.
18:46 Raikkonen on supersofts now, and burning his tyres, fast!
18:45 Vandoorne on the track now hoping to replicate Button's hot lap on the supersofts.
18:44 Verstappen also pips Vettel to fourth place so far.
18:40 Button goes third on the leaderboard! Puts in a quick time of 1:32.281.
18:38 Renault drivers Palmer and Magnussen put in times just outside the top 10, more or less the same situation they had in Melbourne.
18:37 Interestingly, Raikkonen has now done 20 laps on mediums. What are Ferrari up to?
18:36 Hamilton also on the supersofts now. The two Mercedes teammates look to be having a battle of their own right now. Early preview of what's to come on Sunday?
18:36 Rosberg on the supersofts, pushing hard and on a hot lap and already claims the first sector in no time.
18:35 The Haas Frenchman goes sixth fastest with 1:33.384.
18:30 Grosjean joins the Williams duo on the supersofts now.
18:27 Massa and Bottas go on the supersofts. This is the first time we get to witness them in Bahrain. Massa sets a quick time straight away with 1:32.873. Bottas joins him in the 1:32's. Surprisingly Rosberg, Hamilton and Vettel, who are running on softs, are still faster than them.
18:25 Hamilton takes a break as the Mercedes team pushes him back to the garage.
18:22 Rosberg, Hamilton and Vettel continue to lead the pack after 20 minutes into FP2. No-one else looks threatening.
18:20 Hulkenberg looking good going around the track, running on mediums. Force India will be to get as much data as possible on that compound.
18:18 Haas' Gutierrez locks up his back wheel while taking a turn in the desert.
18:16 Vettel running on softs now, not running as fast as the Silver Arrows though, who seem to be dominating lap times once again in FP2.
18:15 Raikkonen on the mediums, puts in a lap of 1:35.164.
18:15 Hamilton now also on a hot lap, just falls short of his German teammate though with 1:32.383
18:12 McLaren's new number 47 puts in his first lap in FP2, will interesting to see how hard he will push for the rest of the weekend.
18:12 WOW! Rosberg puts in a very fast lap at 1:32.173, two seconds ahead of Gutierrez (1:34.186)
18:10 Rosberg joins Hamilton on the track now, running on softs and putting in a hot lap.
18:10 Fernando Alonso looks quite bleak sitting with his technical team after it was announced he was not fit to compete this weekend.
18:10 Wehrlein puts in the first lap of FP2 with a time of 1:35.848.
18:05 Lewis Hamilton gets geared up while Nico Rosberg decides to take it easy for now.
18:02 Green light shown! Manor and Ferrari out of the pits first to get us started.
18:00 And We're underway in Bahrain!
17:40 Will be interesting to see how teams adjust their cars now that the flood lights are on as night falls in Bahrain.
17:35 Just a recap of FP1: Nico Rosberg blitzed the competition, including Lewis Hamilton, as cooler conditions in Bahrain meant a dramatic fall in lap times in FP1.
17:30 Welcome back to the Sakhir circuit! Second practice gets underway in 30 minutes.
15:31 So that is it for now, join us again in two hours for FP2 for the Bahrain GP. Cheers.
15:30 The chequered flag is out and FP1 concludes with Rosberg as the pace-setter, half a second up on his team-mate Hamilton. Raikonen is third fastest for Ferrari.
15:28 Many of the drivers have covered over 20 laps this session while some are even closing in on 30. Not Rosberg, he is out of the car with 24 laps to his tally.
15:25 21 of the 22 drivers putting in laps as the clock counts down. Only Celis is still in the pits.
15:24 Hamilton comes to pass Wehrlein down the main straight and it is not even a vague fight as the W07 easily pulls ahead.
15:21 A huge lock up for Bottas as he puts in his 18th lap of the session.
15:18 Raikkonen has climbed up to third place but is still 1.8s down on Rosberg.
15:16 A new set of softs helps Sainz up into sixth place. The Toro Rosso driver is 2.4s off the pace.
15:15 Vettel is back on track as too is Raikkonen. Vettel is out on a used set of mediums while Raikkonen is using the soft tyres.
15:11 Grosjean's Haas has lost a small piece of bodywork down the front straight.
15:10 Rosberg storms to a 1:32.294 and Hamilton also improves but stays P2. He is 0.505s down on his German team-mate.
15:09 Both Mercedes drivers are out again on the soft tyres, the compound that they have chosen for the most number of sets.
15:07 Rosberg and Hamilton have both left their respective garages and have stopped at the end of the pit lane to practice starts. There goes Rosberg and now we await Hamilton who is off a minute later.
15:06 Improvements over at Haas as Grosjean is up to sixth place and Gutierrez seventh.
15:04 Not a great start to the weekend for Vettel, who is still in the pits. He has fallen to P12 while Raikkonen is P11. The Finn has, however, yet to swap to the soft tyres.
15:01 Haryanto finds some pace to jump ahead of Celis and up to P20. Wehrlein is now slowest of all in 22nd place but he's on a hot lap. And that yields a massive improvement as the DTM Champion improves to P15!
14:58 Ricciardo and Hulkenberg are up to P3 and P4 on their soft tyre runs, dropping Button, who is still in the pits, down to P5. Make that P6 as Kvyat has just improved to fourth place behind his team-mate.
14:54 Vettel remains in the pits after his earlier leak. He has covered just four laps, the least of all the drivers, while Ericsson and Haryanto on 16 have covered the most.
14:52 Haryanto and Celis, who are P21 and P22 respectively, are both back on track.
14:50 Vandoorne has improved to 14th place on the softs, he is now 2.8s down. Magnussen has jumped to fourth, 1.8s off the pace.
14:47 Magnussen and Vandoorne break the silence as they head out on the soft tyres.
14:45 It is a split between the Mercedes pairing for the P1s in each of three sections. Rosberg is quickest in the first while Hamilton was purple in the second and third. It is the German, though, who is currently quickest overall.
14:42 The rest of the field are also back in the pits with Button still P3 ahead of Hulkenberg, Bottas, Verstappen, Raikkonen, Vettel, Grosjean and Sainz.
14:39 Rosberg and Hamilton are back in the pits and still hold down the 1-2.
14:37 Celis is off the track as he goes in a bit hot. He's able to continue without any troubles.
14:36 A moment for Grosjean as he locks up and drifts his way through the corner.
14:32 Front wing change over at Manor for Wehrlein. He is P20, 4.7s down while team-mate Haryanto is a further tenth off the pace.
14:30 A slightly unusual problem over at Ferrari as Vettel reports he is getting a bit wet. Nope, it is not raining, it is an issue with his drinks bottle. As they say, you never know what is going to happen in F1!
14:28 Last time out in Australia Haas impressed with Romain Grosjean P6 on the day. So far today he is P9, 2.4s down. Gutierrez is P21.
14:24 The Merc drivers are still lapping but have not yet improved on their earlier best times. They still hold down the 1-2 with Rosberg 0.081s up on Hamilton.
14:23 Here comes Vandoorne on his first hot lap and he loses it, running off the track. Button has jumped up to third with a 1:35.440.
14:20 Daniel Ricciardo is back in the pits after slotting up into fourth place, behind the Mercedes and Nico Hulkenberg, while Daniil Kvyat is P5.
14:18 A new P1 time with a 1:33.5 92 for Rosberg which is a marked improvement on last year's best FP1 time. Hamilton is second, less than a tenth behind.
14:15 Hamilton heads out so we have two Mercs out on track and it appears as if both are going to get straight down to work instead of just putting in an installation lap.
14:14 Rosberg heads out for his installation lap while Hamilton looks to be getting ready for his.
14:12 A few more installation laps and finally we have a driver on a hot lap that will actually yield a time. A mistake, though, means it is a 1:39.7 for Pascal Wehrlein in the Manor.
14:10 Despite being sidelined Alonso has chosen to stay at the circuit and earlier was seen walking through the paddock.
14:07 It is not silent for long as Celis in the Force India and Sauber's Nasr are out on track now.
14:06 With his RS16 shod with the oft tyres he does a, nope he doesn't. He instead pulls into the pits.
14:05 Magnussen also stays out and the Renault driver has in fact started a flying lap, the first of the day.
14:04 20 of the 22 drivers have been out, Palmer opting for two laps, and now we just await the arrival of the Mercedes pairing.
14:02 And out goes Vandoorne in his number '47' McLaren. Happy days for the Belgian racer who is the reigning GP2 Champion.
14:01 Gutierrez is out in a new chassis that Haas put together following his Australian crash with Fernando Alonso. His old chassis was returned to the factory, repaired and sent here to Bahrain to be Haas' spare should they need one.
14:00 The light goes green and FP1 is underway at the Sakhir circuit with Esteban Gutierrez the first driver to venture out.
13:55 Five minutes to the start of the 90-minute FP1.
13:52 In case you missed Thursday's huge news: Fernando Alonso is out of the grand prix and will be subbed by Stoffel Vandoorne. Alonso failed to pass the FIA's medical yesterday as he has yet to heal from the rib fractures he suffered in his horrific Melbourne crash. The Spaniard may also have to sit out the Chinese GP but will have a test on the Thursday of that race weekend to determine his fitness. Best of luck to both Fernando and Stoffel!
13:48 Good news on the weather front: after yesterday's rain (yip, it rains for about 2 weeks per year in Bahrain and yesterday was one of those days) it is dry today and cooler than in previous years. It is, however, a bit windy which means drivers will really be hoping that the glue keeps the sand where it is supposed to be and not on the track.
13:42 Ferrari will be hoping to after challenging in Australia and showing pace last season in Bahrain. Both Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen have opted for a different tyre choice to the Mercedes pairing - more mediums than softs - and will be hoping that gives them an edge come Sunday's grand prix.
13:36 Last time Formula 1 raced in Bahrain the victory went to Lewis Hamilton, who along with his team-mate Nico Rosberg is the favourite for this weekend's win. The Mercedes duo claimed the 1-2 in Australia and there are few signs that anyone can stop them this weekend.
13:30 Welcome to the Sakhir circuit, home of the Bahrain Grand Prix. This is round two of the 2016 World Championship and all times are local.
