BUDAPEST, Hungary - The Hungaroring racetrack needs an urgent upgrade before the 2014 Formula 1 GP.
The track's managers have indicated that a deal must be reached with the government soon to guarantee the staging of the race, scheduled for July 27.
'OUTDATED'
Hungaroring Sports spokesperson Agnes Kovacs responded to questions at a media briefing saying that the track's surface, kerbs, drainage and electronic circuits were all outdated.
She added, however, that "funding negotiations with the government are at an advanced stage".
Earlier Zsolt Gyulay, Hungaroring Sport's director, said in an interview on state television that the repairs required three million euros - the equivalent of about R44-million.
