Hamilton's Malaysian pit faux pas

SEPANG, Malaysia - Former world champion Lewis Hamilton caused a few chuckles at the 2013 Malaysian Grand Prix when he accidentally pulled into the pits of his former team McLaren.

Hamilton came in for a tyre change in the eighth lap of the race and, instead of driving to the Mercedes mechanics, went to the pits of McLaren.

The surprised McLaren crew waved him through and Hamilton only lost little time as he continued on to Mercedes for new rubbers.

'FEEL FREE TO POP IN'

McLaren tweeted: "Smiles in the garage after a well-worked double pitstop with an unexpected twist ... Feel free to pop in and say 'hi' any time, @LewisHamilton!"

Former F1 driver David Coulthard quipped on the BBC: "That's what happens when you spend most of your career with one colour."

Hamilton then made no mistake when he came in for his next stop in the 22nd lap. He went on to finish in third place behind race winner Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber in second.

Hamilton spent the first six years of his F1 career at McLaren between 2007 and 2012, winning the 2008 world title.
