Ferrari boss whips his F1 crew

ABU DHABI, UAE - Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has demanded more from his Formula 1 team to help Fernando Alonso beat Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel to the 2012 Drivers' World title with only two races remaining.

Alonso is 10 points behind the German and Ferrari has only 10 days to prepare for what could be a decisive US F1 GP n Austin, Texas, followed by the season's final round in Brazil on November 25.

Montezemolo said on Ferrari's website after Sunday's 2012 Abu Dhabi GP: "I want to understand why the new parts that we brought to the track only partially improved the performance of the F2012."

Alonso was second in Abu Dhabi in a race won by Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen after McLAren's Lewis Hamilton retired with a dead engine but his hopes of clawing back enough points to regain the lead vanished when Vettel raced from last place - twice! - to third.

Montezemolo praised Alonso for "giving 120%" but added: "It's clear we have to do more for the coming races. That is what I requested today of (team principal Stefano) Domenicali and his team. We have 10 crucial days during which we must do everything to arrive in Texas with a car that can fight for the victory.

"Words count for nothing: This must be our target."

Alonso has won three races so far in the 2012 season, none of them since the German GP in July. Vettel won four races in a row before Abu Dhabi - and came close to taking that race, too.
