MELBOURNE, Australia - The proudest dads in Australia were in the Toro Rosso garage at the Albert Park racetrack on Saturday (March 13) to watch qualifying for the first Formula 1 race of the 2015 season.

Carlos Sainz (52) and a World Rally series legend, was arguably proudest after his son and namesake out-qualified the team's sister car on debut - but he was also possibly also the most nervous.

Sainz told German television RTL said: "When you drive yourself. You have everything under control. Here I can only watch - I prefer when I'm driving myself."

Also present was Jos Verstappen (43), whose personal- best lap around the Melbourne layout has already been bettered by his high-profile 17-year-old son Max.

The former Arrows and Minardi driver said: "We're very satisfied. He is completely relaxed - it is his first race, but he is calm.

"We discuss everything together but I need to give him a bit of space."
